In shifter life, what's more important? Your human mind? Or your wolf's?

Elena

When my wolf appears for the first time, I’m so overjoyed that I don’t think, I just run into the forest…and smack into Black Maddox, the leader of my pack. Only…he doesn’t believe that I’m what I say I am. He insists that I’m part of a rival pack and locks me up in his basement.
Black’s twice my age, insanely powerful, and has a streak of darkness running through him a mile wide and an ocean deep.
He’s exactly the type of man that I always swore I’d stay far away from. I should stick with Jonah, the beta I know and trust, the man who’ll give me everything I ask for.
But what if there are things I didn’t know I ever wanted before? Things I don’t know how to ask for?
The shadow Black casts drenches me, his depravity soaking into my skin.
He’s going to destroy me if I don’t escape him.

Black

I discover pretty little Elena helpless in disputed territory.
At first, I want to crack her open, this wide-eyed temptation who derails me. I want to shatter her and those who sent her into tiny pieces. I will not be manipulated or deceived by her false innocence.
That’s what I tell myself. But even as I say it aloud, my obsession grows and the spell she weaves leaves my wolf and I both panting.
But once I realize Elena’s a special type of shifter, the rarest of the rare, and the most precious of them all… I don’t want to crush her. I want to chain and keep her. I want to make her beg for mercy, but not because she’s broken.
Because she’s mine.
I want her desperate and aching for me in ways she’s never been before.
My wolf and I will claim her, mark her, marry her and keep her.
Only one thing’s stopping me.
The entire shifter world wants her too.

Author’s Note: This is a dark ménage romance. Please read the author's note at the beginning of this book before you dive in.

Spoilery review because if you’re planning on picking this book up, you have the right to know what you’re getting into:
Well wow. This was a wild ride start to finish. First let me just get off my chest that Black Maddox is the most self-important, arrogant, possessive, condescending, egotistical, oblivious, stupid man I’ve ever read about. No offence to the author, because I am convinced he’s supposed to be a caricature of sorts. I refuse to believe this isn’t a joke. But let’s try to pull ourselves together and go through a list of offences I have against him. Buckle up.
- He tries to help Elena, but in a fit of insanity, halfway out of the forest decides it’d be better to chase her instead, making her think he’s either about to SA or kill her. In his own words, he gets turned on by the chase and by her being scared FOR HER LIFE and scared of him.
- He proceeds to kidnap her and keep her naked and locked up in a basement.
- When he realises she’s not a spy from another wolf pack, and that she’s an omega (basically a shifter goddess who every alpha wants to bone and own), he decides she’ll be his mate.
- No, she doesn’t get a say in it.
- Playing a good guy now he lets her shower and proceeds to get off on the door of her bathroom, not bothering to clean up, and when she comes out wearing clothes, he first of all thinks she should be grateful he let her shower alone (they’ve met like 2 hours ago) and he patted himself on the back for allowing her to wear clothes.
- He locks her up again.
- He has a weird obsession with how small and thin she is, which gives me the CREEPS, considering they also have a 21 year age gap. He even strokes her hair once and it did not sit well with me let me tell you.
- He SA’d her in her sleep. Full stop. This wasn’t dubious consent. There was NO consent. Elena was asleep and he started touching her and undressing her and having sex with her.
- He constantly manhandled her, didn’t let her leave the basement, touched her when she didn’t want to be touched, I mean heck in one scene a DAY after meeting her (this book takes place over the course of 2 days) he put an engagement ring on her finger while she slept, straddled her, woke her up and made her suck him off. I mean… you can’t make this up.
- He let his best friend go insane because of Elena’s omega pheromones and jump on her, scaring her just to affirm that she was his and that he was the only one who would protect her and keep her safe.
Now, let’s see a couple actual examples in form of quotes from our beloved Black Maddox, shall we?
“Elena rushes back into her room, pretending she’s offended and doesn’t like what she sees. We both know that’s a lie.” - babe I think you might be projecting a little bit? Maybe that’s just me though.
“Once I’ve decided something, it’s always come to be. And I’ll be damned if the most important decision I’ve ever made- to keep her- will be ruined by anyone. Including her.” - I’m sorry how is this sexy? How am I supposed to be rooting for this couple? Or finding this guy attractive?
“Alphas are built to be protectors. To dominate. To control. Omegas are our opposites. They’re built to submit. I can’t wait until Elena stops fighting what she is, accepts it, until the day she looks up into my eyes with worship in her gaze.” - this speaks for itself.
I absolutely refuse to believe this isn’t satire. I’ve made it through the book, read every chapter just to make sure it didn’t get better, but all that’s happened was that I ended up wailing on the couch, in physical pain over how horrible the love interest was. He treated her as a possession, she had no say in anything, she couldn’t go out, she was simply his and her job was to please him and get used to her new life as a pretty bed warmer. There was no development of a relationship or a bond between them, Elena simply hated him, and he simply ignored it. The heights his ego was built up to would surpass Mt. Everest. Reading his own POV, of him talking about how he’d take Elena against the wall so she could marvel in his strength had me needing several breathers. And now I need another one because I’m exhausted.
That’s it.
If you like little to no consent, age gap, possessive men who don’t care about you being a human being and not a thing to be owned while parading around thinking they’re the best and you should worship him, and you’re looking for a book to read, well look no further!

3.5 “God, this omega is twisting me up…” stars

Honestly, I’m not 100% sure how I feel about this book. It was entertaining AF, but I will admit that the hero may have been a little TOO over the top for me. Like yes I think that’s meant to be the point of this genre, but maybe that means it’s not for me. We shall see if I continue the series. I may wait until it’s completed first. 👍🏽

Alpha Black is testing me. LOL That aside, this is my first omegaverse read! I'm so excited!

Defiant is perfect for me, because it's MFM which I love! I had no idea this was omegaverse when I picked it up. I thought it was just a shifter romance. It's funny, because I've wanted to read omegaverse for a while, but I just couldn't decide which one to try. Then, this one just fell into my lap and relieved the burden of that decision. I'm happy with the choice the universe made. 🤣

My favorite part of this story is Jonah which is shocking to me. I'm usually an alpha girl all the way, but I can't help but love him. He better get treated right in the next installment! 😭

I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via Lovebookstours as I am part of the book tour for the second book in the series coming soon.

Defiant is a fast paced shifter romance that progresses at full speed from start to finish. I normally don't read shifter books as I'm more drawn to vampire novels, but I decided to give it a read. I did enjoy this book but felt it was more about sex than much of a story line to it which I thought would gave made it much more enjoyable.
I enjoyed learning about the packs and how the alpha, beta and omega ranks worked.
I strongly advise to read the trigger warnings for this book and series as its certainly got many strong triggers within it and is not for the faint hearted either.

Let me be clear from the start that I didn't dislike this book. The writing is crisp, there's some great humor, some likeable characters (some, not all of them), it plays with power dynamics, and has an interesting plot. Plus, look at that gorgeous cover! But the book did bump up against my personal "ick" tolerances. And it's gonna take a little picking it apart to avoid sounding like I'm complaining that this Dubious Consent Erotic Novel has dub-con in it. That's not my issue. I chose to read the book knowing that.

While true dub-con is something that only ever really exists in fiction,* it is safe to say people accept, read, and even enjoy aspects of it in a book that would be considered heinous and problematic in real life. It works because of the established, if largely unspoken, compact between the author and the reader that the heroine (in this case) is actually safe, nothing outside bounds will happen, and it's possible to hold both the position of wanting and not wanting something in a way that isn't allowed in the real world. So, my complaint isn't about the dubious consent or even that Black is such an anti-hero as to almost not qualify for the hero label at all. (Though, having sex with someone who is asleep does kinda push my boundaries a little. And was questionable behavior for the character, considering how many times he'd emphasized not wanting to force her into sex because she'd hate him afterwards. Ummm, isn't that the same thing?)

It's simply that I really struggle when love, passion, lust—whatever you want to call it—is based on WHAT a person is instead of WHO a person is. In this case, Elena is an omega and all alpha wolves want an one. They want IT (an omega), not HER (Elena). And I realize this is often the case in Omegaverse books, but that doesn't make it any more appealing to me.

Similarly, Black says to himself that he likes his women in their twenties. Again, it's a WHAT, not a WHO. Elena, as a person, is irrelevant. She's wholly replaceable. (What happens when she is in her forties, will she be replaced by the next bright young twenty-year-old?) Such scenarios are like sand under my skin, irritating my attempt to immerse myself in a sex scene, or believe a burgeoning relationship, etc. I can roll with the punches of dubious-consent—explore those power dynamics or questions of powerlessness, etc—and still enjoy it.

I have a harder time accepting women gleefully being treated as objects and being expected to find it sexy. Sure, like with dub-con, I could say it's exploring societies' treatment of women, or the gendering of power, etc. I'm not saying I should always be able to read dubious consent for feminist content (though certainly exploring those themes could be), but the WHAT versus WHO question is one of my person limits. Though everyone will have their own. I can see and respect that the WHAT versus WHO issue has a place in literature. I just have a hard time reading it personally. It's just one of my discomforts as an individual.

The book is not unaware of its own use of this trope. At one point, Black acknowledges, "If you had any other kind of pussy..." referring to what marks her as important and at another, Jonah questions, "How can I leave her here with Black, knowing that she'll only ever be seen as a thing, not a person?" It's this fact that allowed me to decide to continue the series. I'm hoping some of this will fall away; that this is the author giving Black room for personal growth and he will eventually see her as a person, as Jonah does.

Well, that's not the only thing. I loved Jonah. I know Black is supposed to be the dark, dangerous, star of the show here, but Jonah stole it for me. I adore him.

All in all, an interesting (if not perfect for me) read. I'm looking forward to seeing how things work out. I'd hate to see anyone go into this without knowing what they're in for, but as long as you dive in with your eyes wide open all should be well.

*I accept that there might be situations in which consenting parties agree to contracts or simply enter into scenarios in which the idea of consent is allowed to be flexible—playing out rape fantasies, etc. A lot of discussion could happen around this. But for the purposes of my point, I'll just say that in such cases the limits of consent are established and agreed to by both (all) parties, therefore it's not truly dubious in the same manner as in dubious consent plots like Defiant's.

“Wolves are something that happen to you. Like looks. Like intelligence. They aren’t a choice. What you do with them once you’ve got them - that’s where the choice is.”

Okay I’m super in to shifter romances lately. And this one did not disappoint! It was fast paced and super easy to binge read. This was my first venture into Omegaverse shifter stories and I thought it created some really interesting dynamics! I thought the hierarchy in the wolf shifter world was fascinating and something I didn’t even know existed. Denton does a great job though of explaining the hierarchies so even though I’d never read an omegaverse book before, I was able to quickly understand the dynamics.

Please note the trigger warnings prior to starting this book. The author is very clear that this book is dark and will not be appropriate for all readers. Please read the trigger warnings to make sure this is content you are comfortable with.

Thanks to the author for sending me the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

2 stars for the first half of the book. I just couldn’t bring myself to finish this! The entire “story” of the first half of this thing could have fit into a single page:

Elena is a rare Omega shifter. Her wolf is latent and doesn’t makes an appearance until she’s 21. On the day that she finally shifts, she abruptly leaves her boytoy (aka Jonah the Beta) while they are in the middle of class and goes for a run to let her wolf free. She then finds herself in disputed shifter territory and at the mercy of her pack alpha, who, at first, thinks she’s a spy and kidnaps her. He then realizes that she was telling the truth about being part of his pack, but by then, he also realizes that she’s an omega so he decides to keep her. Meanwhile, every other wolf within smelling distance is salivating over Elena because she just smells so scrumptious. Alpha Black decides that Elena just smells too yummy and therefore she must be his mate! Alpha Black purrs a few times for Elena, who gets all hot and bothered (although the smut level is pretty mediocre - at least in the first half of the book). All the while, poor Jonah is looking for Elena since she disappeared from class so abruptly, but he doesn’t have to look too far, because he goes to a pack meeting and gets a wiff of her on Alpha Black.

There! 127 pages summed up in one paragraph! I don’t even consider that a spoiler because it’s also basically the same as the description of the book. Literally NOTHING else happened. There’s just a lot of inner dialogue that’s boring AF. Maybe it gets better in the second half, but I just couldn’t bring myself to care to continue on!

HOT HOT HOT HOT!!!
I BINGE read this book in 8 HOURS! I was completely immersed didn't even want to stop to eat dinner. This is an Adult wolf-shifter romance, with a MFM relationship so expect some glorious smut!

My eyes were glued to the page the moment that Elena found herself completely lost and very naked at night in the forest being hunted by an also very naked Alpha wolf. This was the first time that I read a book with an age gap romance and I must admit I was intrigued. The dominant and submissive roles are very prominent in the members of the wolf pack. Their wolf instincts many times take control of their actions and their emotions. I found that it was easy to grasp and connect to this animalistic reality. The author describes very well the true nature of the wolf and how it grapples with their human side.

Elena is an one of a kind wolf: a very rare omega, which hasn't appeared in the packs for years. An omega is a very submissive wolf which is the guilty pleasure of any alpha wolf. Alpha wolves have a strong pheromonal attraction to omegas; they basically can't resist having them. When Alpha Black discovers this omega on his territory he claims her as his. However Elena has ideas of her own which also include a beta wolf, Jonah.

A page-turning fast paced read! Probably the spiciest book I ever read and the smut was incredible to read.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy of the book!

I discovered Ann Denton through Silver Springs and it was love at first sight. Last week I read the first book in one of her fantasy series and she reminded me once again what I loved so much in Ruby. I was therefore quite happy when one of my arc groups managed to get this book! I didn't know how fast I had to let everyone know that I really wanted this book and as soon as the arc arrived I wanted to start this story. I hadn't really checked what it was about, but I didn't doubt it would be good.

After reading this book I can never say again that I only like Omegaverse when it's Sweetverse. I'm quite certain this doesn't count as Sweetverse and yet I enjoyed it anyway. Denton really creates this amazing tension between our main characters. I could almost feel the electricity between them and there were so many moments I was screaming at the characters to do something. Rarely they did what I wanted, which was equally frustrating and exciting.

I was also quite surprised that there was so much politics and mythology in this book. I really enjoyed the constant danger of the other pack and the possibility that all this would turn into a pack war. I also really liked that, even though this is Omegaverse and even though there is a lot of tension between the characters, the mythology made the alpha work really hard and made it even possible for him to fail.

That's also because our omega grew up thinking she was an alpha. She's not the typical sweet omega, curling up in her nest and depending on her alpha for everything. She grew up as an independent woman and she knows what she wants and doesn't want. That means there is a constant fight between her body and her mind going on and it makes it interesting to watch her deal with everything that's happening to her and because of her.

I'm addicted and now I want and need more!

Defiant was a rollercoaster for sure, it's thee spiciest book I have ever read. Before I provide my review, I would like to note TRIGGER WARNINGS: Dubious Content, forced marriage, kidnapping. This title may be triggering for some readers, please make sure to check for the full trigger warning provided by the author.

Ok, lets begin! It's my first time diving into the Omegaverse, with the help of my buddy I was able to understand what the concept was. Elena, our main character, is a girl that likes being in control, but after shifting and becoming an omega... her life goes into a whirlwind of changes and situations. Jonah, Elena's best friend, is my favorite character! He is so wholesome and is madly in love with Elena. He works on protecting her, although Elena repeatedly tells him she does not need protection. That is until Alpha Black walks into the picture, takes Elena for himself and prepares her to be his mate.

This story slowly goes into a MFM relationship. The sex scenes were intense, very very spicy. The inner monologue of the characters helped understand the development of the relationship in a dubcon. I will admit I was a bit uncomfortable in certain areas but as I learned more about the relationship I started to see why Elena gravitated towards Black. I was invested in finding out who Elena would pick or would she stay with both! The smut in this book is above anything I have ever read before LOL. I definitely recommend to those that love an Adult Shifter story and spicy 100% level smut!

Thanks so much to the author for gifting me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

*Triggers* *Dark Romance*

World build:
Well crafted. Clear status of packs, rules, and hierarchy with a clear basis of who is after who.

Storyline:
Dark. Twisted. Triggering. Extremely sexual. However there is strong context and not just about the sex.

FMC:
Is not what I was expecting after reading the first couple of chapters. Elena ended up being quite weak and helpless...not one of my favorite characteristics.

MC:
Black is overly dominate. I have to be in the right mindset to handle a read like this and fortunately I was. So for me Black was perfect for the genre. Pure domination through and through. Very exciting character.

MC (2):
Jonah was weak. A submissive male with a very submissive wolf. So between him and Elena this dropped some stars for me.

Happy reading,
DD 💕

This book made me extremely uncomfortable. Black takes it for granted that Elena will be his mate, and he DOES treat her like an object. I hate the way he thinks about her and the way he treats her, especially when I read what is essentially a rape scene towards the end. Black is so selfish and I hate him. He doesn’t take into account anything that Elena feels and plans her entire future without her consent. I just hated the ending so badly, and there is no way Black is a romantic interest for me anymore, he’s just an antagonist. So many negative feelings towards him right now.

I like to think of myself as an avid reader of shifter books and I feel as if I know a good amount of shifter lore. However, Denton definitely schooled me with this book! I’ve never read a shifter book with the omega concept like this!

Before I express how much I enjoyed this book, I do want to point out that this series roll not be for everyone. It’s dark and there are tons of triggers that the authors points out at the start of the book. So please make sure you read those and don’t push through. If you are on the fence, err on caution!

But for those of you who are unfazed by the themes, then this book is going to be one to add to your list! Elena’s wolf is a late bloomer, but she’s sure she’s an alpha. Her mother is, after all. But when her wolf finally comes, it turns her life around for the worst. Not only did her wolf desert her, but Elena Is actually an omega.

Black, the top alpha in the pack, is one of two love interest. Jonah is the other. And to be honest, I like Jonah more! I just need a little more connection between Elena and Jonah, but not sexually because they definitely have that down! 🔥🔥🔥

This book is smutty! I love it!

I’m excited to read the next one!

DNF @19%
Normally, I wouldn't rate a book that I DNF'd so early, but I think the MMC talking multiple times that he is over 40 and is objectifying the FMCs in her early 20s, saying specifically that hes mostly attracted to young women and their bodies, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like where this one goes.

Elena and Alpha Black.

I liked this story.
Elena is a strong female character, has a bit of sass, alpha Black as per usual to being an alpha is a lot over confident and arrogant.
and I love Jonah he is so sweet and special.
Really enjoyed the plot storyline didn’t like that cliffhanger tho
it’s well written and definitely worth the read.
can’t wait for the next book

DEFIANT is by far one of the steamiest books I’ve ever read. Before I dive into this review, however, I do want to point out that this book has trigger warnings and you should read the author’s note before diving into it. Triggers include dubious consent, kidnapping and forced marriage.

Now that that’s out of the way, let me tell you a little bit about this spicy werewolf dark romance! Defiant follows the story of Elena, a twenty-year-old shifter who has been waiting several years for her wolf to manifest. When Elena feels her wolf for the first time, she’s overcome by the need to run to the forest and revel in her first shift, but when she does she crosses paths with Black Maddox, the alpha of the Lobos Pack. The Lobos are Elena’s pack, but Black doesn’t know it because she’s never been allowed to join the pack events. She has all the characteristics that Black is drawn to: she’s beautiful and half his age , and for that reason he believes she may be a spy from a rival pack sent to mess with his head. Despite Elena’s claims to the contrary, Black chases her down and captures her, locking her up in his basement until further notice. He quickly discovers Elena is telling the truth, but refuses to free her regardless. Elena is an omega wolf—a rare kind who is particularly appealing to alphas. Black is determined to mate and keep her for himself, but doing so may start a conflict between wolf packs as he isn’t the only alpha who wants Elena. How will this unfold? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

As this is a character driven story, the strength of the narration relies heavily on the characters and their relationships. The three main players are Elena, Black Maddox and Jonah, a beta of the pack who is also Elena’s friend (with benefits). Elena was the sort of main character I love. Her strong attitude and confidence made her immediately likeable to me. She’s not a woman who’s afraid to admit what she wants and has complete ownership of her body and sexuality. I really appreciated her strength throughout and—at least for now—she was my favorite character.

Things are a bit more complicated with the boys. In the author’s note, the author states that the series will end with a MFM relationship, so while Elena isn’t meant to be the peak of a love triangle, I couldn’t help but compare her relationship with both men. Black Maddox is meant to be the kind of character that I usually obsess over: big, dark, arrogant, a bit wild…I usually throw myself at men like him. Jonah—by far more submissive toward Elena, kinder, softer, is usually the one I give the friend treatment to. And yet, despite Black and Elena’s relationship is the one explored the most, and despite the fact it was extremely spicy, I couldn’t warm up to Black. Maybe if there had been more time to explore their bond as people and not merely alpha and omega, I would have been more involved. With Jonah, on the other hand, we get to see a lot more emotion. He doesn’t see her as an omega, but as the strong, reckless woman he’s falling in love with, and I was far more curious to explore that relationship (and my wishes may just come true with the second book!)

Overall, this was a very quick and enjoyable read. I definitely recommend it to fans of werewolf fiction—especially the spicy kind—but again, check your triggers because it’s quite dark!

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy to review. All opinions are my own.

This must be the spiciest book I have ever read.

Defiant follows Elena, a young woman whose life changes drastically the moment her wolf appears for the first time. Something that brings her joy quickly lands her into a…complicated situation when she smacks into Black Maddox, the alpha of her pack. Shifters whose wolves haven’t manifested are not allowed to join in any of the wolf activities, so Black doesn’t know who she is and is convinced she’s a member of a rival pack. Elena tries to escape, but Black catches her and locks her up in a basement, only to discover that she was telling the truth. Not only that, but Elena is an omega, a rare kind of wolf that drives alpha into a sexual frenzy. Resisting her is nearly impossible. And while Elena hates Black for her current predicament, a part of her cannot help but be drawn to her alpha.

As I teased at the beginning of this review, the levels of spice in this book are wild. Without a hint of a doubt, it’s the book with the biggest amount of sex that I’ve ever read. I was certainly intrigued by the approach taken by the author, who explores a more animalistic side to these shifters than what I’ve encountered in other books. Black Maddox, especially, often seems to be more wolf than man in the way he acts around Elena. Elena is a strong and determined female lead, and I can’t help but feel for her in various moments of the book. The situation she’s thrust into isn’t easy, and her heart, mind and body are often at odds with each other. It’s not easy for her, and it’s not pretty.

This book is a ménage romance. For my followers who might be new to this term, it means there will be a relationship between three people. One of the love interests—and admittedly, the one many will find difficult to warm up to—is Black, the alpha. The other is obviously Elena. And then there’s Jonah, one of the pack’s betas. Jonah is Elena’s friend (with benefits) and he’s always treated Elena kindly and with respect. Between the two male characters, Jonah is the one I like most. He’s exactly the kind of guy I like reading in books.

I recommend this book to people who love reading spicy, dark romance. However, please read the Author’s Note at beginning of the book if you have already bought it or downloaded it on Kindle Unlimited, because there are elements that may be triggering for some. Mainly, dubious consent. Again, this is a dark romance, and everyone knows their limits.

Thank you to the author for sending me a copy. Opinions are my own.

I’m genuinely so confused as to why this book has so many 4 and 5 star ratings…. I want this review visible, not hidden behind a spoiler tag, so here is what you can expect in this book:

- kidnapping
- non-con
- 20+ year age gap where the MMC frequently refers to the female as “little girl”
- an attempt to force an unwilling omega into heat
- multiple mentions of forcibly impregnating an unwilling partner

None of this is “dark romance”, and it’s disgusting that some would classify this as such. Having sex with someone who is sleeping is not dark, it’s disgusting and there’s literally no consent?? Having sex with said omega, with the hopes of forcibly impregnating her so that your rival can’t claim her isn’t dark, it’s disgusting and isn’t something I want to read about.

I read omegaverse because I enjoy the dynamics of ABO packs and the character development. Relationships in omegaverse shouldn’t be forced and it shouldn’t involve noncon sex (the only exception I can think of is if it’s previously discussed as something both parties would be into- but even then I err on the side of “yeah let’s not”) with a woman who you’ve kidnapped.

I typically can’t start a series without finishing it, but I won’t be reading anything more in this series. Too bad the villain gets the girl in the end.

4.5 stars for this beauty!!

Multiple POV’s, dark ménage, snarky and witty FMC, Alpha Holes, LOL moments and off the charts chemistry. You really can’t ask for more in a book.

Elena is the FMC and she is a late bloomer getting her wolf. Finally, she makes an appearance and well insert the Alpha of her pack...... well this is when things get interesting. I will not post spoilers but READ THIS BOOK.

2.5 ✨

I liked the way the author wrote. You could tell the author was a great writer and the characters had well written enjoyable personalities. But I did not enjoy the story / plot of the book at all. I’m not going to read the rest of the series but I will probably look up more books by this author and try them out just because I do like her writing style over all.

Do I like cocky but ultimately good MMCs? Yes I do. Do any of those words apply to Black? Absolutely not.

Read the author notes at the beginning, be aware of several potential triggers, and don’t step lightly into this book. I thought it’d be fine. Don’t make the mistake I did unless this is exactly what you do want to read. I’m not here to yuck someone’s yum, I’m here to say treat the warnings with a healthy dose of respect and go in eyes wide open.

Dark deliciousness that everyone needs

If you don't have triggers this is a dark romance you'll end up recommending.

Elena is not your typical omega. She's sassy, headstrong, and knows she can take on the world. And why wouldn't she? She was "raised" to be an Alpha. Something her interactions with Jonah only prove time and time again. So when her life turns completely upside down and she's mistaken for the enemy by Alpha Black....well enter all of the crazy, depraved fun.

Jonah is the beta wolf in love with Elena. He's pretty submissive for a beta but brings a sense of peace and control to Elena she desperately needs. I adored Jonah because he's sweet but when the going gets rough he steps up. He puts aside his fears for his love. Some may end up seeing him as too weak but I found him to be necessary to Elena.

Alpha Black, the alphahole we all love to hate. Oblivious to anyone else's feelings except his own. He's found a lost treasure and like the greedy kid with a shiny new toy he'll grip on to it for all he's worth. It doesn't matter that said toy is a living, breathing girl. After all what woman wouldn't want the glorious Alpha?

The interactions between Black and Elena are dark romance gold. Oh Elena feels something for Black all right but it may not be what he's dreamed up in his head. Although as much as you may want to punch him, you also want to lick him and give him a hug.

Overall this was a well written start to this dark romance. All of the elements are there, setting up a heart pounding story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The sexy times may just set you on fire and there are definitely some laughs to be had and drama is life.

This was the perfect set-up for an alphahole redemption story.
Black has a good heart and thinks he was acting in our heroine‘s best interests but does everything wrong. She resists and allows me to believe she‘s strong enough to get him to change his ways, instead of caving under her omega instincts. As a bonus we get sweet Jonah, who‘s been holding her candle for some time and might finally get his chance.

I‘ve jumped on to the next book right away and I have high hopes.

I like this new take on a omegaverse trope. It is definitely different! I can't wait to see what happens in the next book. Although the stubbornness from Black and Elena was off the charts. So was their chemistry. They were on fire!

It was hard not to like Elena (FMC). Shes strong-willed, witty and full of snark. Being a late bloomer having her wolf slow to surface things get complicated when she does show up. Especially with an encounter with Alpha Black. Which kicks off a battle of wills between the both of them. I cant say that i was totally complaining about that even if Black was a bit of an Alpha****. He definitely brought out every trick in the book to get his own way. It steamed up my kindle thats for sure. I really liked Jonah too but my only criticism was that he didnt get much book time so im hoping he we get more of him in the next book? I loved this first book. I cant wait to get my hands on the next book now
