Bilal was born in Belgrade, then the capital of Yugoslavia, to a Czech mother, Ana, who came to Belgrade as child from Karlovy Vary, and a Bosnian Muslim father, Muhamed Hamo Bilal who had been Josip Broz Tito's tailor. When he was five years old, his father managed to take a trip and stay in Paris as a political émigré. Enki and the rest of the family followed him, four years later.
Enki Bilal has no sense of belonging to any ethnic group and religion, nor is he obsessed with soil and roots. He said in one interview: "I also feel Bosnian by my father's origin, a Serb by my place of birth and a Croat by my relationship with a certain friends, not to mention my other Czech half, who I am inherited from mother".
At age 14, he met René Goscinny and with his encouragement applied his talent to comics. He produced work for Goscinny's Franco-Belgian comics magazine Pilote in the 1970s, publishing his first story, Le Bol Maudit, in 1972.
In 1975, Bilal began working with script writer Pierre Christin on a series of dark and surreal tales, resulting in the body of work titled Légendes d'Aujourd'hui.
He is best known for the Nikopol trilogy (La Foire aux immortels, La Femme piège and Froid Équateur), which took more than a decade to complete. Bilal wrote the script and did the artwork. The final chapter, Froid Équateur, was chosen book of the year by the magazine Lire and is acknowledged by the inventor of chess boxing as the inspiration for the sport.
Quatre? (2007), the last book in the Hatzfeld tetralogy, deals with the breakup of Yugoslavia from a future viewpoint. The first installment came in 1998 in the shape of Le Sommeil du Monstre opening with the main character, Nike, remembering the war in a series of traumatic flashbacks.
In 2012, Bilal was featured in a solo exhibition at The Louvre. The exhibition, titled "The Ghosts of the Louvre", ran from 20 December 2012 to 18 March 2013. The exhibition was organized by Fabrice Douar, and featured a series of paintings of "Ghosts", done atop photographs that Bilal took of the Louvre's collection.

PT A arte continua fenomenal, como já é característico em qualquer livro de Bilal. No entanto, senti uma perda de envolvência narrativa neste volume.
Objectivamente, ao longo de mais 80 páginas de história, não há um progresso suficientemente relevante para que a leitura seja plenamente satisfatória. A única informação adicional prende-se com o impacto progressivo do acontecimento no mundo e nas pessoas, mas continuamos praticamente sem saber nada sobre o bug — a sua origem, as razões da sua existência ou o que o desencadeou. Nesse sentido, para mim, este volume revelou-se menos satisfatório do que o anterior.
Assim, não esperem grandes desenvolvimentos ao nível da história. Ainda assim, existem alguns momentos interessantes que acabam por tornar a leitura aceitável.

In that respect, for me, this volume was less satisfying than the previous one.
Therefore, do not expect major developments in the story. Even so, there are a few interesting moments that ultimately make the reading experience decent.

Hela världens data har raderats och astronauten Kameron Obb verkar vara i besittning av den försvunna datan. Detta gör honom till en ytterst eftertraktad man.
Den här andra delen är inte riktigt lika intressant som den första, men fortfarande läsvärd. Vi får mestadels följa olika grupperingar som på olika sätt försöker få tag i Obb. Några italienska mafiosos kidnappar till exempel hans dotter Gemma i utpressningssyfte. Nu ser jag fram emot att se hur det hela slutar!

Die Story aus dem ersten Band wird weitergeführt - mittlerweile sind verschiedene Organisationen und Personen hinter Obb her, denn er hält den Schlüssel zu sämtlichen elektronischen Daten der Erde in seinem Hirn und damit den Schlüssel zu quasi grenzenloser Macht. Obb selbst jedoch will vor allem zu seiner Tochter Gemma.
Die Geschichte ist ok, läuft aber irgendwie etwas schleppend. Und ich verwechsle andauernd Gemma und diese Begleiterin von Obb - die sind im Grunde nur an ihrer Haarlänge zu unterscheiden. Das nervt etwas. Die Bilder sind jedoch weiterhin ein Genuss. Ich habe irgendwo im Internet die fiese Unterstellung gefunden, dass der Autor den Comic vor allem in Hinblick auf tolle Einzelseiten designt habe, die sich mittlerweile auf Autkionen für lächerlich hohe Preise verkaufen. Naja so weit würde ich nun nicht gehen, aber der Comic ist schon vor allem seiner Visuals wegen lesenswert.

Honnêtement je ne sais pas quoi dire. Alors certes les dessins sont beaux, cela va sans dire.
Mais:
1) L'histoire se traîne clairement ça devient intéressant à la toute fin seulement
2) Je sais que Bilal n'est pas tout jeune mais franchement toutes ces allusions à des sujets de société actuels sont ridicules on dirait qu'il a mis les mots non binaires influenceur et bisexuel au hasard pour faire futuriste et ouvert d'esprit. Et clairement c'est parfaitement ridicule, ça n'a aucun intérêt dans l'histoire si ce n'est nous montrer que l'auteur ne connait ni ne maîtrise aucun de ses sujets, il aurait clairement mieux fait de s'abstenir.
Le tome 1 m'avait plu mais je ne suis pas sûre de lire le 3 (alors que j'emprunte pourtant gratuitement la série à la bibliothèque)

C'est très extrême de voir une sorte d'organisation de femmes qui veulent exclure les hommes et créer une société de femmes. Je ne vois pas le pourquoi...

Dans la lignée du premier volume, peut être encore plus jouissif du fait de l'histoire déjà posée. L'intrigue principale n'est finalement bien qu'un prétexte à la description d'un monde ultra-fragmenté entre mini-sociétés co-existant de façon anarchique, peuplées d'abrutis aux idéologies antagonistes. C'est évidemment sombre mais surtout très drôle et rempli de clins d'oeil et détails bien pensés.

Même ambiance sombre que dans le premier. Le scénario nous est davantage révélé et on se sent plus à l'aise de naviguer entre les différences cellules qui tentent de s'approprier Kameron pour accomplir leurs idées de révolution. On sent ainsi que, tranquillement, Enki Bilal nous présente un visage noir de l'humanité, de son besoin de structure et de sa dépendance à la technologie.

Un bon message passé dans ce roman graphique mais beaucoup d'éléments ont rendu la lecture trop confuse, pour moi. J'avais parfois du mal à distinguer certains personnages et à retrouver où ils étaient tant il y avait de noms de lieux mentionnés. Ce tome 2 reste toute de même une bonne lecture.

Bilal, once and longtime favorite of mine ever since his first books. And while this book is not up to the level of the old classics, at least not yet, as there apparently is at least one more chapter to come, I still have faith that although I don't yet fully understand what I'm actually reading it will all be sorted out in the final book or books. In a few years.

Ce deuxième volume me semblait meilleur que le premier, ayant laissé de côté les critiques peu poussés de la dépendance numérique pour plutôt se concentrer sur l'action, mais il y a une drôle de question de différence entre les sexes qui surgit vers la fin et qui me semble plutôt vide. Il est plutôt difficile de s'engager dans le récit, comme tout semble en surface.

J'ai préféré cet opus au premier car on commence à comprendre les liens entre ce fameux Bug et les intrigues. Après, à l'image du premier tome, je n'ai toujours pas éprouvé de sympathie pour les personnages. D'ailleurs les rares moments de plaisanterie que nous pouvons lire (Généralement entre Obb et sa fille) sont pas forcément bien amenés.

Chyba przestaję mieć coś głębszego do napisania o tej serii. Podczas lektury czułem, że rozwiązanie jest odwlekane, ale niekoniecznie zasłużenie. Niewiele się tu działo, beaty fabularne to właściwie mielenie w kółko tego samego i nawet kończy się podobnie co księga 1. Nie zdziwię się, jeśli zapomnę poszukać księgi 3 i nigdy nie dowiem się, jak ta historia się kończy.

Para ser el segundo libro de una trilogía mantiene bastante alto el interés y muestra más puntos de vista de los grupos interesados en obtener al protagonista. La acción se mantiene tan interesante que, no sabiendo que había un tercer volumen, pensé que en cualquier momento podría resolverse todo.

No better than the first tome. Filled with pseudo-world-development, while characters remain shallow and the theme doesn’t develop. It doesn’t help that Bilal draws the same characters over and over again. I like his illustrations, but I won’t be reading the third tome.
