If you haven't read Indigo Dusk, go get that one and read it first. Then this one. You won't be disappointed.

Kristy Nicolle writes amazing books!! They are long, epic, and detailed. Her characters all have amazing arcs, and this book is no exception. I love how the characters interact with each other. I particularly like Kairi. Over the two books she develops nicely and I can't wait to see where she goes next.

If you like fantasy and romance go out and buy this series. If you want to get the most out of the universe start with the Tidal Kiss Trilogy (and the novellas - they are all amazing), then move on to the Ashen Touch Trilogy, and then this one. They are all set in the same universe but each trilogy can be read as a standalone.

I hope you love these books as much as I do.

Happy reading!!

First, I'd like to thank the author for sharing an ARC with me in exchange for an honest review. This was an epic read, and I'm glad I took a chance on this series despite the subgenre not being a favorite of mine.

The World-Building
Violet Dawn picks up right where the first book stopped, give or take a couple of months. The beginning allows the reader to remember where we are, what Aetheria is. I loved the descriptions of places such as the academy where Kairi learns more about her Heirbound position. Violet Dawn continues building a universe with its own politics and economics. Although the skies are purple, it is very real.

I also enjoyed the emphasis the author put on the different clans' priorities. For example, the Faes versus the Equinians. This shows you how unique this world is, even though it's based on Greek mythology. The Goddesses and Gods are present throughout the book, even when they don't make a clear appearance.

Violet Dawn doesn't contain as many detailed bits as the first book, which is good. It allows the reader to focus on the additional elements of this world when the descriptions do happen. I like the fact that the author trusts the reader to remember elements from Indigo Dusk instead of hammering recaps into this new installment.

The Characters
Kairi Freemont as the Heirbound
Kairi had me wondering in this book. I loved her in the first volume. Here, I was less excited, because I got really invested in the other characters or I simply couldn't relate. Kairi deals with the trauma of dying at Aro's hand for most of the book, and when she sees him again after being reborn, she freezes. Even training with the Equinians doesn't seem to do much for her, other than activate some of her Fae powers. The help she receives from Morpheus causes her to become rather cynical about the future of the Kindred races and the possibility of them uniting against Aro.

Sometimes I wanted to shake her. For example, when during the meeting with the other High Borns, everyone spoke up and tried to be convincing. Kairi just stood there and seemed to accept her fate to marry Aro and crown him King to "work from the inside." It was surprising to see even Aliandara agree with that kind of plan, considering the way she busted Kairi's ass for freezing in front of Aro and not acting like the fiery person she can be. And I get there's a bigger picture and all that, but Kairi often seemed like the girl who let things happen to her, like a vase that needs water to overflow before she would make her move. While that is not only realistic but also very human, it had me scratching my head.

Kairi is, in fact, so very human and so connected to her human soul that I felt it slowed her down. She didn't try to further explore her powers, her strength, and when I thought she was going to by taking Aro on, the friggin' Harpies show up to save the day.

Side note: Characters I did not understand
The Harpies. I love me some powerful female trio, but someone needs to explain where those Harpies come from. I think my question marks come from the fact I start The Aetherial Embrace without reading the other two trilogies that connect to it.

Also, Silver? In the first book, she slobbered over Aro constantly. Was it all an act? She is a Harpy, but she let him rape her in Indigo Dusk? I'm a little confused because I don't know exactly how strong she is physically. There's a bit of a gray area here, and it makes her unlikeable to me.

Lucien DeLaurent
Lucien is the type of guy who is permanently in the honeymoon phase of his relationship. I have to be honest here and say that the more the story went on, the less I liked him. He's the good guy, treats Kairi well, has got the smarts, the creativity. Even the sauce was the Tour Eiffel for someone who'd been a virgin for 200+ years.

What I absolutely abhorred was the way he treated Genevieve. For someone who called Genevieve his best friend, he was pretty shitty. I get the part where she shuts him out and doesn't want to see him ever again. When they talk again, he repeatedly lies to her and even stands her up to go ice-skating with Kairi where Gen could see them (and she does). What's up with that, Lucien?

Another thing that riled me up a bit was Lucien's idealistic nature. Lucien has this glorious vision for Aetheria, but does virtually nothing, even after Kairi broadens his horizons. He repeatedly stands up against Aro only because it involves Kairi, and while that could sound romantic, it made me shake my head. I honestly wonder if Kairi will ever return to him because of the prophecy, and if she doesn't, I almost want to say good. Lucy here needs to step up his game and show us some ice biceps. And not only in the literal sense.

Aro Black
Like it or not, Aro is the character who drives the story. I absolutely loved the fact that even when he's in the middle of the desert, he regains control over his position. Gen's dragon's powers are now flowing in his veins, and while I was hoping to see more of those abilities, I understand there's a time and place for everything. This was not the time. Aro's quest focuses on getting back to Aetheria to be crowned King. He crashes Kairi's ascension ball, tries to get his hands on her, and, of course, fails. I was wheezing, honestly, because she ran away right under his nose. But what I like about Aro's character is that he never overreacts to his failures but continues with the rest of his plans.

It's hard for me not to sympathize with Aro because you can understand where he's coming from. Even Her-friggin'-cules suggested he had a much bigger role to play. For someone who's already self-absorbed, that's a huge push in the wrong direction. I hope that him realizing that what Gen said about him being "Hera's bitch" will stick with him after what happened with the coronation ceremony, and I want to see his ultimate move/revenge. His intentions are not that different from Kairi's when you think about it.

Genevieve Thomas
If there's a character I've grown to love more and more, it's definitely Genevieve. I think her mourning Algoric was one of the best depictions of grief I've seen in books, and her reasoning is the kind I can get behind 100%.

I think Gen is one of the most misunderstood characters in this universe; she got thrown in the middle of a feud that had nothing to do with the Draconians and despite it all, she still has at heart the Draconians' future at heart. I totally understood when she allied herself with Aro (and I wanted to slap Kairi for saying Gen was being manipulated), just like I understand the platonic way in which she loved Algoric or even Lucien, considering her mortal past and the fact her father forced her to become a prostitute.

With that being said, Gen made a fantastic commander in battle, and she really pulled off the Dragon Queen act. Gen is a character who belongs to a battlefield, and it was refreshing to see her ditch the wine and masturbation sessions related to Aro's death.

Speaking of which...

Damn it, why haven't Aro and Gen gotten together yet?!

I can't be imagining it; there have been teasers here and there and they have some of the best chemistry I've ever read. If Aro and Gen aren't end game, I will riot. Intensely. They are perfection. I said what I said.

The Plot
Since Violet Dawn takes place shortly after the first book, Kairi "ended" her "thing" with Lucien, deciding to focus on her High Lady education and figure out what to do with her Heirbound position. The book starts with characters that have loved and lost, all of them, and they all sound very resigned. From Kairi, who accepts the fact that she has to marry someone of the same "race" as her when she loves another, to Lucien, who simply sits back and respects her choice, to Gen, who finds comfort in tasty "contemplation"...

And then there's Aro, who can't take the loss and is busy planning his next move. Honestly, bless him, because he's one hell of an entertaining villain. So much, in fact, that by the end of the book I was still rooting for him. He was certainly one of the most active characters in this installment.

The book proceeds at a crisp pace to set up the stage of what is ultimately an epic assault, every bit and piece of information turning out to be vital and not part of some overly done description package. I loved the fact that this book culminated in an epic yet believable battle involving the dragons.

The Themes
As Kairi is now a High Lady, she no longer suffers from Ehler-Danlos Syndrome. However, you can see the experience is sticking with her. Her actions and motivations come from the mind, as opposed to all the other High Lords and Ladies, who stick to a philosophy that's more about physical strength (save for the faes).

What truly was astounding in this book was the depiction of grief, through Genevieve, and guilt, through Lucien. It was realistic and profound to where, if you've experienced one of the two, you could relate entirely.

The Prose
This book made Kristy Nicolle's books go straight to my TBR list. All of them. I can't get over how poetic her writing style is. She doesn't conform to modern writing standards, and I believe her books will remain enjoyable 20-40 years from now. The sequel to Violet Dawn seems to be scheduled for mid-2023, and I honestly can't wait.

If you haven't read the first book, Indigo Dusk, please do yourself a favour and read that first. You would have a hard time piecing things together otherwise. This second book dives into painting a bigger picture of the world's histories, intricacies, and relationships between the characters. The descriptions of the various parts of this world are so vivid and beautiful that you truly feel immersed right alongside the characters. Plus, deceit and a big battle to make the last 1/3 of the book fly by.

Aro is absolutely loathsome still in this book, and I can't decide whether I love or detest Genevieve now. She's a total baddie, and I understand her pain and longing, but the girl makes some rash choices along the way. Lucien, as always, is the honorable white knight with perfect hair. Kairi is learning to finally trust her inner voice and embrace who she is at her core.

My favourite quote from the book: "The world is a dark place, Kairi, and we can only do the best we can with the strength and information we have at the time - Hindsight is an illusion of control that simply doesn't exist."

Again, we get an epic reveal in the epilogue to keep you hooked and diving right into Book 3.

Thank you to the author for the review copy!

Haven’t read book one? Well go read it cause you will need it to carry on with this incredible series. Kairi has been reborn and on her way to ascension all the while Lucien takes a step back to give her room she needs. All is blown out of the water when Aro returns with his army and Kairi is forced to run. It’s an incredible read as we grieve with Genevieve and also Lucien and his love for Kairi as their relationship has ended and as we join Kairi and her struggles to overcome her fear. It’s one hell of a journey filled with twists and turns as the author pulls us in closer and deeper.

This is the second novel in the third and final trilogy leading up to the epic conclusion of the Queens of Fantasy Saga.

Second books in trilogies frequently end up a little slow because they consist of so much filler material between the initial world building book and the concluding book. Not so in this one- never once did I feel bored or like I wanted to skip ahead or skim portions. Aro is, by far, Kristi’s best villain. Kairi, her best FMC (although after a while, I loved Sephy from the Ashen Touch Trilogy.) In the two proceeding trilogies, I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t enjoy the villains’ chapters much at all. Especially the Tidal Kiss Trilogy villains- even though they were important to the overall saga. But there wasn’t one portion of this book that I was tempted to skip over. To me, that shows incredible growth by the author.

Kairi still had her moments of overwhelming self-martyrdom, but hers felt legit. She’s really morphed into a total badass and much better leader than I anticipated. Aro is still terrible (in the best villain way,) and Lucien is still honorable and still holding out for Kairi. Genevieve shocked me with her turn of character- but I love what’s going on with her. I have a theory about Algoric, her dragon, which I can’t share yet, but it ties in with the Ashen Touch Trilogy so I can’t wait to see if I’m right.

This book took me 23 whole days to read, which in Beth terms, is forever. I’ve had an entire week where I read only half a chapter (altitude sickness on vacation, couldn’t stomach the thought of reading with my head in a a vice.) But reading this entire saga in 2 months or so has been a huge (but rewarding) challenge. I usually like to throw in a couple of thrillers between ginormous fantasy books, but I’m on a deadline so I’ve pushed more back to back fantasies than normal and it’s got me spiraling a bit. That being said- I’m very much looking forward to the final book in this trilogy. I can’t wait for its conclusion and then to see what happens when all 3 of our heroines meet in the concluding novel.

5 star read for me.

Violet Dawn is the second novel in Kristy Nicolle's The Aetherial Embrace Trilogy, which as the full title promises, is a fantasy romance (like no other). Kristy Nicolle is an amazing indie author, so if you haven't read anything by her, I strongly recommend you go check out her backlog!

Once upon a time, Kairi Freemont lived on her parent's ranch, absorbed by the books she loved and coping with her diagnoses of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Now? Now she's been reborn and is the High Lady.

Only, her life is still full of struggles, as evidenced by all of the people currently vying to kill her. Life is never easy, not even for fantastical creatures.

“Hindsight is an illusion of control that simply doesn’t exist.”

If you loved Indigo Dusk, then let me tell you, Violet Dawn will not disappoint! It is every bit as intense and thriller as the former, delivering on all of those promises of magic, fantasy, and romance. Perhaps not always in that order.

I've been a fan of Kristy Nicolle's work for years, and it has been a delight to watch her writing develop over the years. With that said, I sincerely believe that this latest series is my favorite thus far. The characters feel so real and compelling, making their stories carry more weight than ever before.

That it keeps blowing me out of the water (air?) certainly doesn't hurt. There are so many twists and turns in what is a self-described fantasy romance, and yet I can't get enough of it. Kairi's life has been so complicated (no matter how you define it), and you can tell that her story is far from over (thankfully, there's still one more novel to go!).

Once again, I am astounded by the level of determination that Kairi's character holds. She's an ideal protagonist, one that I will continue to support through whatever adventure awaits! Until then, I eagerly await news of the final novel in this trilogy.

MY RANKING 5 STARS
This book was a highly anticipated book for me. The first book in the trilogy was my favorite book from 2020. The Author did NOT disappoint with this one. This has to be my favorite book for 2021 SO FAR. It was well worth the wait! The imagery and flow of the story were top-notch! The Author had some intense scenes in this book also. Some of the most epic battle scenes I have read in a while! If you are a fan of Fantasy this trilogy is for you. I know I say this every time, but this Author just keeps getting better and better. There is this one part in the book early on where Kairi kind of just crumbles and it made me so mad BUT I thought of what my husband once said during the movie The Dark Knight Rises. “They destroyed and broke his will, then he fought and rose stronger than ever.” This is exactly what needed to be done. Kairi is one badass bitch!
I saved a few quotes that stood out to me as well.

“Sometimes fighting isn’t swords and arrows, sometimes it’s taking your next breath, and then the one after that… sometimes it’s doing what’s best for everyone, and not only yourself.”- Kairi
That one was powerful! I LOVED it.
Another one I liked was,
“Hindsight is an illusion of control that simply doesn’t exist.”- Catticus

The only thing I regret about this book is that I read it entirely too fast and now I have to wait for the next one!

SUCH A GREAT READ! I really can’t wait for the last one and to see how this epic story ends!

Also, Genevieve pisses me off!

This was such a hard book to put down. The story is intense and brilliant in so many ways. The main character has been through so much to get to the Aetherial realm, but as she is tossed between Sapphire City and Drakos Vale on the winds of fate, she finds new allies and new enemies. With every turn, she finds strength and fear, but when faced with the choices set before her, she must draw strength from the love she depends on though she knows she will never be allowed. And as the powerful fight to keep their kingdoms, she is caught in the middle, faced with the one thing she has been running from since the moment she discovered the truth. Will the knowledge she's gained be enough to defend those she loves and help to conquer those who would destroy her?

This author...
I have not picked up a book by her that I haven't fallen in love with. I feel so drawn to the characters she writes. I understand their situations and feel so much a part of the worlds that I have trouble returning to reality. This story is so intense, and there are so many hidden twists with each page, each chapter, that I really was surprised by everything. The details she uses create a vision in the mind that takes the reader into the story if only to tag along. It's beautiful and horrifying, heartbreaking and poignant. I cannot even imagine what the author will do with us next, but I am definitely grasping hold of the pages in anticipation. Amazing!

Book Two Aetherial Embrace Triology

Violet Dawn picks up right after Indigo Dusk, so if you haven't read book one yet, go read that. You will not be disappointed!

Kari is focused on her ascension and becoming the High Lady. She ended her "thing" with Lucien in order to focus on doing so, which I appreciated that she put herself first over a relationship. I loved the Lucien stepped back and allowed her the room to be who she's supposed to be. Aro is such a great villain, that I am actively rooting for until the end. I loved him in book one and that hasn't stopped yet. He is so involved in the story that he feels more like an anti hero than a true villain.

The author is a master at giving their readers real emotions with their characters. You can feel the pain and loss Genevieve feels, the guilt Lucien feels and the struggles Kari faces in her prior experiences with her EDS. The author gave us real experiences, and they made the characters truly stand out.

Holy Hera. Kristy Nicolle has done it once again. Keeping me up all night just to finish this book. Her first book, Indigo Dusk, dragged me into this beautiful world and left me wanting more. Well that’s exactly what she gave me in this second installment. With every twist and turn you are kept on your toes every second. You can almost feel the heat from the Sapphire City, the frost from Drakos Vale and of course the infuriating lace of a certain dress 😉. The absolute amazement I got from reading this book, I couldn’t put it down until I had consumed everything including the amazing and beautifully written descriptions and intense feelings throughout it all. I am once again reigning Kristy Nicolle one of my all time favorite authors. Your snagged my attention and I can’t wait to read more of Kairi and all the amazing warriors of Aetheria!

“Violet Dawn” is the second book in Kristy Nicolle’s The Aetherial Embrace Trilogy, and it’s the continuation of High Lady Kairi Freemont’s story.

I thought that this book was a wonderful sequel! It picked up right where the first one left off, and as soon as I started reading, I was immediately drawn back into this world.

There was honestly so much happening in this book, but that’s actually part of why I was so invested. The politics, the action, betrayal, the revenge… it all made for an incredibly addicting read!

Kairi, the heroine, also goes through a lot of very nice character development. I also felt like her relationship with her love interest, High Lord Lucien DeLaurent, was more well developed in this one. 5 freaking stars!

After reading book 1 this week, and loving it, I could not wait to read this one!

SO much happens in each part of this trilogy. You're taken on this amazing journey full of magic, love and war, with Gods and Goddesses and prophecies, and taken to these amazing places, all so different but beautiful in their own way.

This one was an emotional rollercoaster, for sure. I knew what I hoped would happen, but just had to wait and see! I was surprised by some events that took place throughout, and really saddened by others.

A great read and I truly cannot wait for the conclusion to this series. Loved this one!

Fantastic read! Following Kairi and Lucien while figuring out what to do about their relationship and than Lucien being betrayed by a long time friend. Kairi figuring out her powers and what she can do and her learning how to fight to protect the people she cares about and finding herself of who she is. Her learning that she was chosen because she understands pain. This was a wonderful 2nd book, it had so much action, so much detail in the world and seeing more of the dragons and their powers. Seeing more women fighting and learning to fight against men. I loved it! Thank you Kristy for sending me a copy!

I was captivated by Indigo Dusk, and with this second installment to Kairi's journey I am absolutely spellbound!
Kairi is so relatable, all of her internal struggles has me saying "Girl, same!" At every turn. And that's probably why her arc is so fulfilling. I feel so bound to her burdens that her victories and growth makes me well up with pride.
But be warned, reading these books comes at a steep emotional price.
I, for one, feel that my emotional security is well worth the sacrifice to follow these characters through. I look forward to seeing their conclusion in the books to come.

I received a free e-copy of this book and this is my honest and voluntary review.

In Violet Dawn we continue to follow Kairi Freemont on her journey to save Aetheria from the awful Lord Aro Black. As she starts her training to become the High Lady of Aetheria and future Queen, Atheria begins to crumble and the war has only just begun.

I absolutely loved this book! I adored getting to see Kairi step into her ’destined’ role and yet still hold onto her humanity - even though she isn’t really human anymore?! I loved getting to know Lucien more and see a different side to him, especially in chapter 7 - my favourite chapter in the whole trilogy 🥵. We also start to see Aro and Genevieve in a different light and I found myself torn between hating Gen and fancying the socks off of her.

At 499 pages, this book took me 11 hours to read. I highly recommend to any fantasy, mythology and romance lover.

A storm is brewing

I'd been waiting for this book a really long time and I was so not let down. I was immediately back in the world of Aetheria, flying with Angels and Dragons. From dream walking to being heartbroken to rising out of the ashes and shining bright like the badass I truly am. Books are wonderful, and this story is just so. I am so ready for book 3, I know epicness is right around the corner. 😉

A definite read for fans of Acotar, as I get vibes from this similar to that. Lots of action in this book as it's the second in this trilogy. Is emotional at parts. Steamy scenes so a 17+ book and I am looking forward to reading the arc for lavender storm the 3rd book in this trilogy. I will be adding the rest of this series to my tbr for this year.

There's a powerful message in this one. Never forget who you are. Kairi struggles with it, trying not to be Storm or Briar. Lucien is full of surprises. I really like him. Genevieve... I tried to like her and feel for her but just can't. She's turning herself into a villain from the pain and grief of loss. Now onto the last book in the series!
