They hunted me down. Six demons who believe I can cast a spell to lift a blood curse. But I’m merely a clairvoyant who can summon the dead.
Being thrust into the world of demons is terrifying, intimidating, alluring… Their leader refuses to believe I cannot understand the spell. He’s infuriating—but there is something about him that calls to me. An attraction that scares me.
Fighting the magnetism to the arrogant demon leader is hard enough, let alone learning to use powers I never knew I had. But I need to learn how and fast. I’m in over my head, and they know it…
*A Glow of Stars & Dusk is book 1 in the Watcher Series and ends on a cliffhanger. Content warning: please note that there is an incident of sexual deception contained within this story...but you know, they’re demons.
Eve L. Mitchell is a USA Today Bestselling author who writes contemporary romance and urban fantasy.
Being an avid reader from a young age, Eve still considers herself to be a reader first. She believes there is nothing better than getting that new book either on your e-reader or in your hands, and the fact she may bring that excitement to a fellow reader, fills her with wonder. She writes under a pen name because otherwise her Secret Agent status will be revoked.
Eve lives in the North East of Scotland, with her three coffee machines and her significant other, Mr. M. She enjoys NFL Football, music and having long conversations with the voices in her head, which sometimes turn into the stories she writes.
My heart has been wrenched from my chest. The twist that I should have seen coming, it happened. The twist I did not see coming, hell hath no fury. Figuratively and literally.
Six demons. Two threes. A warning for our heroine. A witch with unimaginable power. A young woman filled with naivety and 1 particular demon willing to take every advantage to get what he wants. And what, or should I say who, will be sacrificed?
A book that moves at warp speed. Finished in two sittings (would have been one sitting, but you know, life). Highly recommend. Book two is coming this year. WHEN!!! I SAY, WHEN?!?!?!
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and Eve L. Mitchell for an ARC in return for an honest review.
I absolutely adored reading Eve L. Mitchell’s amazing contribution to the Midnight Whispers anthology. Easy one click when A Glow of Stars & Dusk was released as book one in The Watcher Series.
Star was a well developed witty, entertaining and truly likeable FMC. Her unwelcome visitors ranged from being truly lick-able, sexy, alpha holes, all who I’d gladly claim any day. Of course I like my book boyfriends dark, so demons were even better, paired with a witch.
Certainly had me giggling and laughing out loud at their attempts to rein her in. Seriously wish them luck. Things aren’t all sweet between them however, the darker side of their nature is evident too.
So many great one liners in this read too. Can’t wait for book two.
Beginning with book one and throughout the entire series, the reader will be thrilled, excited, astonished and stunned by the characters, plot, and the emotionally crafted narrative that will have you at the edge of your seat as you cheer for Star Elizabeth Archer, in awe of the world she never runs away from. Not sure who she can trust, fighting an attraction to a hostile demon leader who thinks she is a witch, and trying to discover and master skills she never knew she had, Star is really in over her head. But she has no time to think about it because trouble is on the way. Highly recommended!
As you can tell by now, this was an enjoyable fast-paced, well-written page turner! It has drama, emotional ups and downs, and a vast array of characters. Grab your copy and get started on Book 1 so you know the players! I don’t think the author will keep us waiting for long!
A Glow of Stars & Dusk by Eve L. Mitchell has left me speechless on what to write for this review, and I don’t think I can really express how much I loved it. But I can say that A Glow of Stars & Dusk has bumped up to my one number favourite book, and I can’t wait for more of the Watcher Series.
There’s magic, and demons, unexpected plot twists galore, there’s a level of steamyness and so much more that you’ll just have to read it to discover everything.
The emotion and descriptiveness of the world is so detailed that I was able to visualise what was going on so vividly, that it was like I was there. And this was immediately from chapter one, when my heart was racing and I was absolutely hooked.
Star is a hilarious character who’s perfectly matched with a wicked demon. This enemies to lovers story will have you so engrossed that you will come out of reading A Glow of Stars & Dusk unsure of who you are or where you are.
A Glow of Stars & Dusk is most definitely a one click novel.
A crazy ride overall with wonderfully developed characters, an interesting world and well described scenes details wise. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a way to start a series. The book was well written and filled with terrific character work while the story line will keep you on tenterhooks. I can't wait to see what happens next.

OMG. This book just sucked me in. It did also chow on me, swallow me and then just split me back out. It was insane. Characters are incredibly well build. We going from one surprise to another. We run between hate and adoration and back again. Whenever we thought we understood something, we were proven wrong, and then proven wrong on what we thought was proven wrong. Honestly I’m quite still not sure what is going on and who is worse, nor why. Honestly I fell like trying to walk in the dark, with hands on something, not being able to understand what it is. It’s simply marvelous, as for the book of course. The world created for it is quite unique despite telling “only” a story of fallen angels, hell prince and witches. And the one most important witch, is a real star of the story. Not only by her name. She have big mouth, she reacts before thinking, emotions have better of her at any time. She is not flawless heroine, and it’s what I admire about her. She made huge mistakes. Demons made huge mistakes. But I have feeling it’s all part of some very big plan, one and only that can guarantee real purpose and mission can be finalize. All in all I’m in love, and in hate.. yeah.. it’s love - hate relation I have with this book. And still I’m in total adoration of the perfection Eve L Mitchell did create for us. Only quack is, that now I need to wait till summer to know what will happen next. To be honest this cliffhanger did kill me.
A Glow of Stars And Dust by Eve L Mitchell Not only is it a brilliant story to read and gave me goosebumps and chills, its written in such a way its draws you in and you just can't put it down!! Star is the most unwitch witch you could imagine but she soon becomes a force to be reckoned with and those demons ......jeeee I could have smacked all of them at one point but I did laugh out loud really loudly (opppps sorry husband it was 3am oppppps) at some of their antics Brilliant Eve just brilliant
Holy hell! I can’t even with this story. It was bloody brilliant and unpredictable and terrible in the best possible way. I could not stop reading and when I thought one thing I was thrown a curveball. I have no words for how good this story is. Star is my new favorite character, and Sam and his demon brothers well they are intoxicating as much as they are infuriating.
This was a very entertaining start to this new series. I honestly had not a clue how it would go and have to say I was completely shocked by the way this ended. It’s written in such a way that I a Brit can completely understand the language and dialogue used here. If I’m honest far too often authors who clearly are not from the UK get so many things wrong and it totally jars me out of the story which does ruin the flow so this made a very refreshing and satisfactory change. Star is our protagonist and although she knows she often sees dead people she has no idea that she’s really a very powerful Witch. That starts to change when six Demons track her down and virtually take her prisoner ! They need Star to read a spell but sadly it’s one she cannot read because Star cannot decipher the language. Naturally these Demons have a plan but it’s not one that Star would ever agree to ! Ok so I’ve stated I very much enjoyed the “real” feel of Stars thoughts and dialogue and I truly did. What I didn’t like was her odd relationship with Sam. Hey I get that he’s hot but honestly he’s truly a total armpit and arrogant. I thought at times he behaved like a brute but tried to pass it off by constantly reminding Star that hey he’s a Demon so what did she expect ? I personally could not describe what passed between them as romance although I can guess that perhaps the author intends to redeem him , I however just want to give him a slap. If you enjoy stories with magic, mayhem, surprises and steamy interludes with references to popular culture then I think other readers will enjoy this very different take on urban fantasy and I have to admit the cover art is absolutely gorgeous. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Sometimes you read a book and enjoy it, even though logic tells you the accumulation of the elements making it up should result in a whole you’d dislike. That’s how I fell about A Glow of Stars & Dusk. A woman is taken hostage, denied the information needed to make sense of her circumstance, alone with several men with expectations of her, who lie to her, take advantage of her ignorance, speak insultingly to her and disparagingly about women in general, a real alpha-asshole romantic lead, a relationship with abusive red flags flying every which way, ect. Most of these things I generally dislike on principal.
But being fantasy and the main male romantic lead being a demon (you have to expect some evilness, right?), I was able to set aside a lot of my qualms and enjoy the book for the snarky sarcasm and what-will-happen-next quality of the plot. I will warn that it has quite a dramatic end. It would stand alone (though I imagine a lot of people wouldn’t be too happy with it). But, as there is supposed to be a book two, I’ll call it a precipitous cliffhanger.
I did think the author went a little too far with the demons’ origins and age. It felt over-blown. Like, what interest would a 24yo women be to someone with that breadth of experience? But beyond that I have few complaints. I’ll be looking to read book 2 when it’s released.
This book deserves 5 stars not only because it completely pulled me in, I loved all the characters, and enjoyed every single minute of it...but also because it made me go to bed way past my bedtime two nights in a row. And let me tell you, I love my sleep. It was that good. I truly never wanted to put it down. I honestly don't even know where to start here because I would just go on and on about this awesome story.
I loved the complicated relationship between Star and Sam. These two act like enemies half the time and possessive lovers the other. These two hardly treat each other kindly, yet they can't help but still be drawn to each other. Throw in the other five demons and all their interactions, and I just had so much fun with this story. I was laughing all the time. I would have also been drooling right along side Star if I had been there.
Star is an accountant by day, spiritual reader by appointment. For as long as she can remember she has always been able to see and communicate with the dead. It did not make for an easy life. Despite that skill of hers, she never actually thought she was all that special. Until one stormy night six demons show up at her door for her. Along with her best friend, she makes a valiant effort at escape, but in the end it's pointless and she's taken with them.
Sam is the leader of these demons. Yes, a demon named Sam. I felt about the same as Star did about his name until we find out it an abbreviated version of his real name which fits him much better. Anyway...Sam and his fellow demons need Star to perform a spell for them, and she's the only one who can do it. As such, they're not above using any means to force her compliance. There's a problem though. Star doesn't believe she's a witch, as they repeatedly call her, and her powers have been bound.
So most of this book is them all fighting off creatures sent to get Star, traveling all over the world, figuring out where her powers were bound so they can release them, and teaching her some control of said powers. It was such a whirlwind of activity and action that I, even as the reader, thought more time had passed than just the week we find out had towards the end. And speaking of that end. What a cliffhanger! Oh my gawd. I want the next book and I want it NOW!!
This book definitely took me by surprise! I was not prepared to love Star and these demons as much as I do! The storyline is unique and fantastic with each character having their own personalities that helps to differentiate between them! The banter between Star and all 6 of them is absolutely hilarious! She stands her ground like she’s 10 foot tall and bullet proof! Lol! She’s curious as hell and way too trusting to boot.
This book is written so well, in such a an expressively descriptive way, that it feels as if you are experiencing everything first hand. You can see through her words what they are seeing and how they look. It’s amazing!
I was hooked from the first page and could not for the life of me put it down. There were so many twists and turns, and unexpected surprises that had me quickly turning pages. I would recommend this book to those that love pnr & a well written story! You will not regret it. Witches, demons, and necromancy…oh yes!!
I received this book as an eARC from Netgalley. All opinions are my own!
A witch and six demons walk into a bar. What could go wrong? The answer - a ton.
From the very first page, we are thrown into the action alongside Star, and I was immediately hooked! As soon as I opened the book, I just couldn't put it down! Normally, I don't like being thrown straight into the action, but that really helped put us in the mindset of Star and really feel connected to her, and I loved it in this book! The writing style and the way that we get a look into Star's mind made me feel every emotion as if I was Star herself, and it kept me so hooked on the book!
I absolutely adored Star as a main character as well. She is so strong, brave, and spunky that it's hard not to root for her from page one. And don't even get me started on the demons! I loved learning their differences in personality and coming to love each of them in their own time. There wasn't a single character that didn't intrigue me and make me feel all the different feelings at one point or another! I do wish that the romance had been a bit more fleshed out, but demons, you know?
Even though this book isn't technically a mystery, it sort of has that feel to it because Star is discovering her true self along the way, and that kept me so engaged in the book. The number of times my jaw dropped at something that happened or that Star uncovered! And the ending left me absolutely 1000% desperately in need of the second book!
If you like sexy demons, tons of plot twists and intrigue, and a sassy main character, then this book is for you!
Um, excuse me?!?!?!!! That ending has left me on the edge of my seat, screaming and wanting the release of book two to be yesterday. I'm very happy to discover that Mitchell has other series for me to dive into while I wait for the next installment. I love the ease at which she created an all too real universe with the dark and fantastical lurking in the shadows. You'll find characters to love and hate, at the same time. My only complaint is that Star was a wee bit annoying throughout the story, but the plot and other characters were able to drown it out before it became unbearable. This is a very, very solid start to what I predict will be a series that is impossible to put down.
I was sucked in right away and between the world building and character development this is completely right up my alley for amazing books. I could not put this book down and I am already looking forward the next book in the series, because of course it ends on a cliffhanger and I need more!
~I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to NetGalley and the editor~
2.5 starts
This book surely has potential. However, one too many improbable or cringey scenes/dialogues plus the most irksome and naive MC ever spoiled it. Yet, the surprising twist at the ending partly rekindled my interest.
I'm fricking fuming 😡 I knew it - I'm not sure who I want to get my hands on first!!
This is the first in the series and it is written in a way that places the reader in the same confused yet curious state as the heroine Throughout the story, nothing is verifiable - each page turn brings another small piece of the puzzle - but never enough to draw solid conclusions We (I'm talking reader and heroine) know we are missing some important pieces but the unknown is a call we can not deny - Curiosity and all that Frustrated, scared, angry, unsure of what our next move should be - We do the best we can accepting each new task and hoping for the best Yeah our temper gets in the way occasionally as does our libido but hey these are some fine specimens We duck up a few times - But we don't give up (I hope I explained that right)
I loved and loathed the watchers Each one rubbed me wrong at one time or another while also offering me a substantial piece of the picture as well as lessons that gave me insight into who I truly am Until that last moment...
There is a lot of things going on in this first book And I believe the intent was to leave the reader a touch confused - as our heroine is - and it worked and I want my revenge
This was a solid start to the series Just enough facts to give us a hazy picture - to keep me engaged and on edge - all the twists, the multiple breadcrumb trails, the betrayals I am moving on to book two
Lmao - I just reread this and I sound like it's my story 🤣
“Dear Lord and all his heavenly angels, where the hell did this guy learn to kiss? I was lost. Lost in his touch, lost in his kiss, lost in him.”
A Glow of Stars and Dusk by Eve L. Mitchell tells the story of Star a witch whose powers were bound without her knowledge before she was born. She is taken by surprise one night when six demons come for her and demand that she cast a spell. When they learn that her powers are bound, they take her on a journey to find out how to unbind them. Star didn’t even know she had such powers, and definitely doesn’t know if she can trust the demons. As she finds herself attracted to their leader Sam, she knows they aren’t telling her everything and his hot and cold attitude is intense enough to drive anyone mad.
I was blown away by this book. It got in my head so fast, and I felt so drawn to the story and the characters. I was so sad when this book ended, and it ended on a huge cliffhanger so be warned. I can’t get it out of my head though so I am definitely giving this one 5 full stars. This was my first book by this author but I have already downloaded another and can’t wait to dive in. I will certainly be stalking her for the next installment of this series as well.
I highly recommend this book! The book and characters pulled me in so deep, I loved all the characters and I can’t wait to read the next book. I can’t believe I saw this book before and didn’t read it!! I read it in one day and then read it again the next day, just so I can look at the hinds that indicate towards the cliffhanger. WHAT A CLIFFHANGER WoW!! 😳 I can’t believe that’s so it ended, fingers crossed the next book comes out ASAP!! 😻😻 Amazing and beautiful well written book and so easy to read, full of surprises and adventures. The moment you think you know what will happen, something different does keeping you on edge. Highly recommend this book for everyone to read!! Highly recommend everyone to read the authors all books, they’re all amazing!! 😻❤️ Can not wait to read what happens next and for Star to make the boys pay back for what they do to her, especially Sam in the cliffhanger! *evil laughter*
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and Eve L. Mitchell for an ARC in return for an honest review.
A Glow of Stars and Dust is my first Eve L. Mitchell novel and I absolutely loved it. This was paranormal at it finest. Witches, Demons, Hellhounds and so much more, I was hooked from start to finish and could not put it down. The plot was action packed, fast paced and highly engrossing, giving us a large cast of characters who will all hold your interest and make you want to know more about them. I will admit, the FMC annoyed me throughout the story as I thought she was really immature however, it did not detract from how great the story was and she did at certain points in the novel provide some comic relief. This story was witty and highly entertaining, with lots of unexpected twists and ends in a cliff hanger that will leave you wanting more. Definitely a top read for this year, I loved it and would highly recommend it to paranormal lovers.
This book right from the start pulled me in and had me glued to my kindle wanting to find out more. With each page there is a new twist that will take on ride of emotions, a whole lot of steam, action, a little romance and by then end will blow your mind and have you wanting more. Star and Sam one a human one a demon will have you enthralled with their story and what they are trying to do, you won't expect any of it and you definitely won't be disappointed. I was totally blow away with this book and I so can wait to read the next.
A Glow of Stars & Dusk has you on the edge of your seat the entire time. The premise is mesmerizing and leaves you wanting to know more even as you leave the world. Some of the characters you will love to hate and others you will want to save from themselves. It's a must read and I can't wait for the second book.
This is my first read by Eve L. Mitchell and I am sorry I'm so late to her work! I have a few of her books but my TBR is LONG!! LOL I am now moving her work up! She's the Exact type of writer that I LOVE! she writes with humor and whitty one liners that I just can't get enough of. Her world building is excellent and the Characters are well written and relatable. Star is a fabulous character and she goes through alot! And the guys! Always love the guys! Who doesn't like hot alphaholes? 🤔😘 I wish that I could rate this better than five stars. 10 stars would be better! It is just a FANTASTIC book. I highly recommend it!
I love it, I love it, I love it!!! 🖤 Ok so, this is the first book of Eve's I have read and holy sh!t!!!... my mind is blown!!! 🤯 I enjoyed this book so much, couldn’t stop reading... the plot and world building are fantastic and the characters, awesome!!! 😍 Star is my new favorite FMC, love her non-filter, non-thinking before speaking personality, I laughed so much, she’s amazing!!! 😂 The boys... well, that’s a complex situation, one moment I'm loving them, then hating them, and so on... 🤨🙃🥴... but can't deny that Sam is so damn hot... f'ing, infuriating demon!!! 🥵🔥 And now I heading to read the next book, because after that cliffhanger, my heart is hurting so much!!! 😫😭 Fantastic, must read, unputdownable start of a phenomenal new series, 💯 recommended!!! 🖤
4.25 ⭐️ IM SORRY, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. This book has honestly surprised me at every turn. Nothing is what it fucking seems. I feel so confused and betrayed by this ending - starting the next book ASAP.
This book is am interesting PNR take on the fallen Angels who wanted what those on Earth have.
We meet Star who hasn't ever fit in no matter where she is, but know she has at least one person to count on in her best friend. She doesn't have a lot of confidence, but she makes up for it in quick wit, the mouth of a Sailor, and the ability to still march to the beat of her own drum.
Sam and his brothers left me confused, but Cory intrigued about what they all have to offer. Sam is possessive of Star as if she is his favorite toy to play with, but only when he wants.
We get lots of information that doesn't make a lot of sense. This book is meant to be read part of a series; I hope the puzzle will start to work itself out as the ending leaves me more confused and scratching my head.
With that being said the writing is superb, and I was pulled in from the first chapter. I read this book in one sitting which I haven't been able to do in a long time. I'm looking forward to what book two has in store and hope that Star will find the confidence in herself to trust her instincts!
