Os anos 90 eram tão frios que os Vingadores usavam jaquetinhas marrons com um A vermelho no ombro e sempre que isso aparece, pode ter certeza, é uma bosta.
E aqui não é diferente.
Para começar, os Vingadores são: Hércules, Viúva Negra, Mercúrio, Cristalys, Deathcry, Espadachim, Madalena, Visão, Hank Pym e, de vez quando, Thunderstrike e Capitão América. Longe de ser um momento com os "maiores heróis" da Marvel, né?
Ah, e a mansão foi substituída por uma mansão dos Vingadores de uma realidade alternativa.
Só melhora.
Bom, começamos com a Deatchcry, o Espadachim, a Madá e o Visão enfrentando o resto de uma força Kree, uns Shiar's e um tal de Mephistoide encerrando uma história que começou junto com os Ajuntadores sei lá quantas edições atrás. Depois temos uma história sobre a Bova. Pois é. A vaca meio humana criada pelo Alto Evolucionário e que cuidou do Mercúrio e da Wanda na infância. Por quê? Sei lá, tem o Alto Evolucionário, o Exodus, o Franklin Richards e absolutamente nenhum propósito. Também se resolve o interesse amoroso do Hércules por uma humana que ele conheceu no hospital no início da fase das jaquetinhas e, como é tragédia grega, não se resolve uma maneira muito boa e o Hércules vira humano - vai saber.
Chegamos então, no plano maquiavélico do Caveira Vermelha para a IMA, ou não, porque pelo que eu entendi, a IMA tá fazendo experimentos com as energias do Cubo Cósmico e o Caveirinha quer um Cubo Cósmico para chamar de seu e, claro, o Capitão América de armadura, o Falcão de armadura, dois estagiários (Jack Flag e Free Spirit), os Vingadores de jaquetinha, um guri e um vira lata latino-americanos não querem deixar. A história, como todas as outras dessa fase, sai do nada e vai para lugar algum e acho que só vale por uma curiosidade: a MODOKA, versão feminina do MODOK.
Esfregando sal e vinagre na ferida, temos uma mini do Hank Pym sobre as partículas Pym e um inimigo que apareceu uma vez no início da carreira do rapaz e que ninguéms e importa e uma mini do Visão que é tenebrosa porque envolve uma Jocasta dourada, um Ultron beberrão e o Anti-Visão de uma realidade alternativa. Ah, também é revelado que a Deathcry tá querendo descobrir se o Visão é anatomicamente correto ou não. Interessante, duas edições depois, a Deathcry é uma espécie de estagiária Shiar de dezesseis anos e, apesar de ter enfrentado krees, shiars, mephistoides e o escambau - afinal ela é Vingadora a algum tempo - não pode mais sair em missões.
É tudo muito ridículo bem no clima anos 90, tudo é intenso, dramático e definitivo; a arte merece uma observação: a Marvel tentando emular o estilo da Image o tempo todo, tem uma edição, desenhada pelo grand Deodato Junior em que o Dum-Dum Dugan da Shield tem 32 cintos na camiseta. Na camiseta.
É o suco dos anos 90 que ficou na geladeira e meio que azedou, tem gente que vai dizer que é maravilho e tem eu que já aposentou as ombreiras e só usa um cinto nas calças mesmo.

Oof. More proof that the 90s was the worst decade in comics history.

This volume wasn't bad at all, but you can feel the loss of the more interesting elements that were present in the last few volumes. With the ending of the Gatherers storyline, there is no longer that overarching plot that holds the stories together. There is also the loss of Black Knight and Sersi, which are the two characters that Bob Harras previously spent most of his focus on. Of course, there is also the loss of Steve Epting. Without these elements, the stories meander a bit.
In the Avengers issues, there is more of a focus on Quicksilver and Crystal. Probably my favourite story from this book is where Quicksilver and Crystal travel to Wundagore to get the help of the High Evolutionary, only to be attacked by Exodus who views Wundagore as a holy place due to its history with Magneto.
Other characters also get some subplots. There is the resolution of the Hercules subplot where he is being manipulated by Hera, and Vision and Giant Man both have their own 4 issue story arcs. Both are pretty good.
The main storyline, Taking AIM was probably the worst of the stories here, but overall, this volume was good, if a bit directionless. There was a lot of filler and nothing very memorable, but worth a read nonetheless.

The art style and the type of tales of the 90's is worse, IMO, than what came before... lots of belts, pouches, armor, etc., but not so good stories!

This is very 90’s which hits my nostalgia hard. But also going back to certain things now some stories are just… okay I guess. But still fun to go through big you grew up with that era.

Consistently good artwork and the inclusion of the Giant Man Limited series makes this one of the better volumes.

Overall I enjoyed this collection. The art is not consistently good, but the plots are decent, if somewhat dependant on X-Men centered storylines.
The A.I.M. Arc was quite good especially.
