Devil's Duet #2

Angel's Promise

Rate this book
Everett Ramses came into my life like a hurricane on a dark New Orleans night. With a deep voice and penetrating gaze, his mere presence tingled my nerves and twisted my insides much like the city’s legendary stories of spirits and ghosts.

As the ruler of New Orleans, Everett Ramses lives life hard and takes what he wants without apology.

He wants me to be his queen.

I am not an unwilling capture or a damsel in distress.

No, I, Emma North, willingly fell for the man who proclaims himself the devil.

Do I follow through on the promise I made to Rett, or do I listen to my own instincts and run before it’s too late?

The future of New Orleans is now in my hands.

A fantastic ending to this duet!
I loved every twist and turn!!
The setting made this story, all the superstitions (for lack of a better word) of New Orleans. The spirits speaking and guiding our characters gave this book an element I thoroughly enjoyed.
The love story wasn't always pretty. Sexy and steamy are a great way to describe this couples attraction.
Aleatha Romig does dark like nobody's business. I loved this duet and can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

DNFed @50%.

A rape is a rape. Even in a marriage.

Non consensual sex, when the heroine is crying and asking him to stop and he fucks her anyway?
Call it whatever you want, it's still a rape.

She did in fact call it sexual assault. And actually considered leaving his sorry ass. For like 5 minutes.

However, being a spineless doormat that she is, she chose to stay with him and forgave him like it was nothing.

Better, she started playing some little games because she knew he felt guilty and that way she could get what she wanted, e.g. a little bit more of freedom.

And honestly this entire time I just cringed like a beaten dog, trying to comprehend what the fuck was going on and what was the point behind any of this.

So, the first 50 % of this book mainly focuses on this part, namely her forgiving him.
But again, it was just a game she played. Because she was ready to jump his bones right the same day he raped her.
Plus, she enjoyed all the blitz and wealth he provided waaaay too much to be ready to give that up.

Over some silly rape?
Come on...

She quickly justified his actions not only in her own stupid head but also explained to him that she understood he had needs and that they had an agreement (that she was supposed to be always ready and willing to spread her legs for him every time and everywhere).
And that, ladies and gents, deserves a slap.
To both of them.

And frankly speaking, I would've continued and probably even finished the book if this issue hadn't been handled so badly.
Or if the heroine had showed me at least some signs of intelligence.
Or strength.
Or self-respect.

That didn't happen, however. Because you can't show sth you clearly don't have.

And I'm sorry but I have no interest in finding out how the story of a rapist hero and a cheap hoe heroine ends.

Hence the rating.

Sorry not sorry.

I gotta say, this duet was quite engaging. It was a great ending to a very good duet.
It will keep you guessing until the very last page. The magic of New Orleans is felt throughout the book. Tension is high, trust is questioned, hearts are put on the line.
It will take you on a twisty adventure and have you wanting more.

Who will come out on top? What lies will be brought to light?
Is Rett telling the truth? Is Kyle or Liam? Is anyone fully being truthful... Emma has no idea and has to navigate through it all. And she does it with poise and dignity.

Fantastic way to conclude Rett & Emma’s story!

I have been enjoying this Duet from the very beginning there is just something about Rett and Emma that had me rooting for them from the startand after the cliffhanger the last book left us with I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one.

Angel's Promise picks up right where DEVIL'S DEAL left off and there are so many twists and turns in this book you really need to be paying attention. I don't know how Aleatha Romig does it but she always seems to craft a story that draws me in and never lets go of me. I loved the little easter egg she left in this book too, fans of the CONSEQUENCE SERIES will enjoy it as well I'm sure.

If you enjoy Dark Romance, Romantic Suspense, Organized Crime Romances, or Age Gap Romances I would recommend this Duet to you.

Happy Reading!!!

How does the Queen of Romantic Suspense end a duet? Lust, Love, Sibling Rivalry & lots of Power over a city meant for two families to rule. Everett Ramses is a devil that rules over the city of New Orleans and he wants me to be his Queen but Rett takes everything he rules over with me as no exception. Now I am Emma Ramses and it comes with a price. Do I keep a promise I made or run for the hills. But the more time I spend with the devil the more I want him. The guidance of Miss Guidry and the spirit world (if you believe in it) states that Retts needs me to fight beside him in a war that my dead brother Kyle now Isaiah Boudreau is now trying to take over as new leader over New Orleans. However it seems like Kyle is receiving help that he is not the brains of the operations, Jezebel North is. This book has so many twist and turns you don't know who you should root for. However the spirit world knows as all secrets are becoming clearing & start to reveal themselves only if you listen to what the spirts are saying that Emma is the answer to what New Orleans need. The Queen to rule by the King of New Orleans. But first all secrets must be told so the spirits can reveal who will rule New Orleans, who will turn against each other and who the people of New Orleans have chosen a their real leader.

Angel's Promise by Aleatha Romig is the conclusion to the Devil's Duet and if I were to describe this series in words it would be: mysterious, captivating, suspenseful, emotional, and sexy. This series encompasses all that I know and love about this author. The character growth from Emma and Rett was outstanding to see. Both went into this deal or marriage as strangers but became so much more. There were so many twists and turns throughout this book! It was action-packed, surprising, and left me on the edge of my seat because we finally get to meet the "mastermind" behind the person who lured Emma to New Orleans in the first place. But besides the mysterious plot, at the center of this story is Emma and Rett's growing relationship and union of the two families, Boudreau and Ramses.
"I want you to know that you are everything I never knew I wanted and more."

I actually found great enjoyment in seeing how Emma and Rett developed over the course of this book. There were compromises to be made because a relationship cannot be sustained with a give and take approach. At one point, I wanted to yell at Rett for his actions because he was hurting Emma. He didn't hardcore grovel like I wanted but he made up for it in his own way. Emma is different from the young woman we met in Devil's Deal. She has grown and realized her own power over Rett. I loved seeing her deal with the "devil" himself. There were also other forces at play including Jezebel, Emma's birth mother, her brother Kyle, and her ex-boyfriend Liam—all of whom want to be the next "ruler" of New Orleans.
"You may see yourself as the devil, but I don't."

In the end, I enjoyed my time with Angel's Promise and getting to witness Emma and Rett's love story. Theirs was a complicated and tense relationship at times but there's no denying the fact that they were fated to be together—just like Rett said in the beginning. I'm personally not sure how I feel about reading Kyle's book, Kingdom Come, next because I thought he was incredibly immature and selfish. The fact that he wanted to kill Emma, his own sister, to rule the city really bothered me. I hope that he is a much better character until then. I would much rather read a book about Ian, Emma's friend and bodyguard. In any case, if you are looking for a suspenseful book full of twists, passion, and secrets with a captivating hero and heroine, then I highly recommend this book!

I loved the conclusion to the Devil's Duet. Aleatha definitely brought her A game when writing Angel's Promise as we are privy to a whole host of secrets that left me mindblown and shocked. I loved this story and how Emma held her own against Rett. This story was amazing and addicting and a satisfying conclusion.

What I loved more than anything in the final book was the tremendous character growth we could see in Emma. She is no longer the same heroine we saw in the prequel and the first book. She was strong and assertive and the perfect match for Rett!

Overall, this story was suspenseful, twisty and loaded with secrets!! I was mesmerized from the very first page. I loved how Romig let us see into the heart of Rett and what Emma meant to him. 4.5 stars! ~Ratula

Angel's Promise exceeded my expectation. It was entertaining and had me guessing in every chapter. As I read, I tried to decide how I would react to the new bits of information that kept creeping up. The plot is fast-paced and keeps you engaged from beginning to end. The rich descriptions of every scene make you feel like you're in New Orleans. The character development throughout the entire story and focused primarily on Rett and Emma but there are some colorful characters you may love to hate. And since this is the concluding book of the Devil's Duet, you'll get your answer but expect the plot twist this author is known for.  Great characterization, interesting plot, a smart, and suspenseful story I highly recommend this book duet.

It was nice to see all the dots connected to Rett and Emma’s story. I still didn’t warm up to Rett like I would have liked too but towards the end I somewhat liked him. I just felt like the author was trying to make him into another one of her characters. I did enjoy how Emma’s character grew and became a formidable partner for Rett.

This duet is enjoyable and as always the twists and turns this author creates are storytelling worthy. And the extra honeymoon chapters did brings a sweet smile to my face because of where that honeymoon took place.

The conclusion to the firestorm between Rett and Emma. Secrets are revealed, spirituality is tested, and bonds are tested. This was a great conclusion in classic Aleatha style.

This book wasn’t really for me.

I didn’t like the character of Rett. I tried to like him and justify his controlling behaviour but then he just went beyond forgivable. Emma capitulates time and time again; she lost my sympathy. Handsome, sexy man or not he treated her appallingly.

I struggle with books about turf wars, with big bad men who think they rule the world. If the characters suck me in, I can get over the dislike and disbelief. The plot around Jezebel and the talking to spirits didn’t do anything for me either. It was a step beyond believable.

Two plot lines that I don’t like and characters I couldn’t bond with and it just wasn’t my bag.

Did mr. Ramses give me the answers i needed?
After finishing Angel’s Promise,i can safely say….yes!

Going ahead with the marriage as planned,Emma should be safe now.
Only the judge who has the certificate is found dead the next morning.
Without the certificate.
So,they’ll have to do it all over again.
But after Rett makes a mistake,it seems Emma needs a little time to think.
Knowing what kind of man he is,she also knows she’ll still marry him again, but this time she adds a few demands of her own…

Once they’re really married, she has to come to the courthouse to answer questions regarding Ross’ death.
It’s a good thing Rett has people that can help her prepare, and will stand by her during that questioning.
If only trouble wasn’t brewing on the other side of town, drawing Rett away….
Because once she leaves the building, she’s taken!
Ending up in a secret place, one where her mother lives.
Where spirits are a part of life.
Kyle and Liam are there too,and Liam has plans for her.
Plans Jezebel disaproves of,and she seems to be running the show.

Once Emma hears more, gets to know Jezebel a little better, she sees a woman that did what was right for her.
Even though it broke her heart, she knew it would’ve ended in disaster if she kept her,and Kyle, with her.
She had plans for them, but with new developments, she knows those plans will have to be adjusted and the spirits agree with her.
How will Kyle and Liam react to it?
And will Rett be able to find his wife before something happens to her?

The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat.
The story raced towards a satisfying end, leaving me with a need to find out what happens to Kyle….
Good thing i have Kingdome Come, right?

Well this was an interesting story for this duet. The suspenseful pace of the story and with the New Orleans atmosphere kept me on the edge of my seat. The sheer lusciousness of this story is impossible to resist. Sinfully tempting, swelteringly hot, nerve-racking and deliciously juicy, Rhett and Emma's story heads towards its conclusion in this, book two of their duet. If you haven't you really must read Fate's Demand (the prequel) and book one, Devil's Deal first. An intricate web of deep emotion, drama, suspense, twists, danger, secrets and desire will captivate and consume you as you fall deep under this romance's spell. I fell so very hard for Emma and Rhett. They generated sparks aplenty along with a massive dose of feels and swoon. This is my frank, freely posted review.

Angel's Promise is a thrilling and masterfully written story that had me on the edge of my seat. Aleatha Romig brings heat and suspense in equal measure in the conclusion of Rhett and Emma's explosive story.

"He was more than a prophet of fate's demand. Everett Ramses was capable of changing my stars."

This author is so talented at weaving intricately layered storylines that keep the reader hooked. Everything about this duet was so well done: the suspense, the family secrets, the unique plot, and best of all, the incredible love that developed between two incredible characters. I really enjoyed the way Emma and Rhett came to realize the depth of their feelings for each other. Throughout their relationship there was always this sizzling tension between them that was evident every time they were near each other, and the author did such a great job with showing that connection. I loved how possessive Rhett was over Emma and they way they were there for each other when it counted added another layer of emotion to the story. The Devil and the Angel found their perfect match within each other, and they couldn't have been more amazing together.

"I wasn't certain how fate had been so right about two strangers, but without a doubt, Emma was meant for me and I for her."

This story was fast paced and full of suspense, with some thrilling moments that had me anxiously awaiting what would happen next. I loved the way the plot moved, and the romantic elements balanced really well with the action packed moments. The world building was so well done, especially the vivid descriptions of New Orleans and its components. There were some fabulous reveals that Romig excels so much at writing. I loved everything about this duet and I am continuously in awe of this author and the incredible stories she creates.

Good follow up book and overall good series. Emma is still trying to understand her background where she stands and her family history, who’s telling the truth, her brother or Rett. Tensions are high and who is she going to trust!

RATING: 4.5/5

Angel’s Promise is the explosive conclusion to the Devil’s Duet by Aletha Romig that’s filled with twists and turns to keep you guessing until the very end.

The story picks up right where it left off in Devil’s Deal with the arrival of Emma and Rett’s wedding day. Just when Emma thought that she could make things work with Rett, things are suddenly not what they seemed to be by the unexpected arrival of her brother. She is shocked to see that Kyle is very much alive and ready to make her question everything that Rett has been telling her all this time. In her heart she wants to believe that Rett has been telling her the truth, but she doesn’t really know if he is. There are so many unanswered questions, but it’s when Rett starts to open up to her that Emma feels that they can finally have a chance at being together after all. Little did she know that their blissful time together wasn’t going to last long when and that they would have to face the ultimate obstacle in order to be together.

I throughly enjoyed reading Angel’s Promise, Romig did a great job setting up the scene for the story in Devil’s Deal that it made this book that much more engaging to read. In this book we get to see what happens are their deal is made and the consequences that follow. There is still so much that Emma doesn’t know, but she wants to make her own decisions even if she has to make another deal with Rett. Rett in this book starts to realize that he has met his match and he slowly tells Emma about the business he runs. It’s important for her to understand what he has to deal with and she proves to be a lot stronger than he thought. But they have to face new obstacles and that’s going to test their trust for each other. The ending felt a bit rushed to me, but the epilogues really made the book that much better. All in all, I would highly recommend checking out the Devil’s Duet. If you are looking for a suspenseful romance set in New Orleans filled with irresistible chemistry and mystery than this is the right duet for you! :)

Angel's Promise by Aleatha Romig brings the sensational conclusion to Emma and Rett's twisted love story. Be ready to face twists and turns at every corner as this dynamic couple naviagtes through a mess of complicated feels and power plays. This one is a perfect fit for you if you love your hero crookedly alpha and your heroine regally sassy.

Set in New Orleans, Aletha Romig takes us back to the gripping tale of two enemy familes getting united through Rett and Emma. Their families ruled New Orleans but right now everything is changing. And Emma is blasted with truths and manipulations. Rett says he wants to protect her and in turn, consolidate himself as the leader. But can Emma really trust this man she married for a deal?

Aleatha Romig writes the best alpha heroes and Rett was no exception. A powerful billionaire who is deep into the dark corrupt game of riches and control. You will hate him and you will love him. He is used to control over everything as the world bows at his feet. But Emma refuses to be a weak submissive partner. Her character went through great developments and I have to say I love this assertive version of Emma so much. In first book, she was flustered and at a disadvantage. But now she is claiming her dues as a queen and that infuriates Rett. They had a rocky start, unstable journey but the destination was solid. The power plays were wicked and depraved. The plot was a million pieces of puzzle that came together beautifully. If you love reading about how an arrogant alpha is brought to knees by a fierce woman while still being insufferably bossy...this is for you. The superb mix of action and suspense doesn't hurt either.

If you love romantic suspense with sizzling hot chemistry, you cannot go wrong with Aleatha Romig's writing. Angel's Promise was no exception.

5 stars - page turning conclusion to Devil’s Deal.

Angel’s Promise lives up to the build in Devil’s Deal, providing closure on many open questions and tying together the past with the present and the future.
The physiological and emotional build from Devil’s Due culminates with Emma’s awareness of who she is and where she belongs in this new world that she was thrust into. Rett with his single-minded purpose of having Emma at his side as the Queen of New Orleans to fulfill a long standing prophecy was instrumental in righting wrongs from the past.
This book was hard to put down, I needed to finish so I could make sure all is right in this new world of Aleatha’s.
And if you read my other reviews, I will finally go for the 5-stars. I still believe duets are gimmick, but Aleatha delivered with a page turner, worth every word. No fluff or filler to draw this out.
Ms Guidry and Ian still played a large part in this book, but we got new characters, such as Ms Edmée that are worth a mention.

Oh how this book makes me want to visit New Orleans. It’s truly one of the best cities and Aleatha Roming did an amazing job capturing it vibe in this book. Now that said, I spent a huge amount of time, during the first half of this book, wanting to punch Rett in the face. THEN, he won me over, of course. Rett and Emma together eventually becomes pure magic. I might a bit obsessed with Ian, I just love that guy. He’s just perfection. Then Jezebel came along and almost stole the show. That woman is a force to be reckoned with and is absolutely amazing with what she has accomplished after everything she had been through. This is such a good book and it and the book before it, Devil’s Promised, are definitely a must read!

4.25 stars--ANGEL’S PROMISE is the second full-length instalment in Aleatha Romig’s contemporary, adult DEVIL’S DUET erotic, dark, romantic suspense series focusing on underworld businessman Everett ‘Rett’ Ramses, and twenty-six year old Emma O’Brien North. For back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the prequel novella Fate’s Demand. ANGEL’S PROMISE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the cliff hanger of book one DEVIL’S DEAL.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers. If you have not read book one, there may be spoilers in my review.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Emma and Rett) ANGEL’S PROMISE picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of DEVIL’S DEAL in which Emma O’Brien has married Rett Ramses, and her past is about to come full circle with the appearance of someone she long thought dead. Secrets and lies comes to the surface as the truth about Emma’s heritage reveals a life-long connection to New Orleans, and the underworld of which Rett Ramses reigns. Emma O’Brien is a pawn in a much larger game of power and control, and in this our heroine, is no longer able to trust the man with whom she is falling in love. People will die, power will shift, as Emma must come to terms with the past, the present, and her possible future. As Rett battles his need for the woman who has stolen his heart, our (anti)hero prepares to scour the city in search of the people intending to destroy his life.

The relationship between Rett and Emma is a battle of wills; a growing love that will be threatened by secrets and lies, and Rett’s need to control and protect our story believing she held all the power in their imbalanced relationship. The $ex scenes are aggressive and intense, and not without some moments of questionable intent.

ANGEL’S PROMISE continues to focus on the need for control, not only of the city but of our story line heroine. Emma’s true identity reveals a deeper and darker connection to the city Rett loves but said connection is desperate to take back the power that comes with the claiming of our story line heroine. The premise is dramatic, dark and twisted; the characters are complex and deep; the romance is edgy and provocative. ANGLEL’S PROMISE is a decadent and sensual story of power, betrayal, acceptance and love.

Angel's Promise (Devil's Duet #2 ) by Aleatha Romig picks up after the wedding and Emma seeing her brother who she thought was dead and her ex who dumped her. Emma was so confused. She doesn't know who to believe her husband or her brother, than she finds out her mother is alive and her brother who she thought was her adopted brother is actually her twin brother. She is also not happy with her husband when things he omitted come out and they felt like lies to her. A real who do you believe when your whole world has been turned upside down.  Certainly an interesting story and with it set in New Orleans the spirits had to introduced. Rett is still the man. He is a sexy devil who makes no apologies for who he is and what he has done to keep  Emma safe. There were just so many different players and you didn't know who to believe and who was only out for themselves. So many twist and turn. But when it all comes out I have to say boy I didn't see that coming.  A happily ever after for the devil and his queen.  4 stars for me.
