Vasculitis: Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

Rate this book
Your life couldn't be more perfect than it is right now. You are young and, as far as you know, healthy. You are happily committed to your better half, and the two of you are about to be parents for the very first time. Elated by your dreams for the future, your anticipations elevate to the point you feel untouchable. You are on top of the world and no one can bribe you to come down. If only life stayed that consistent. If only life was really that kind. If only you were as untouchable as you think you are. Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired is a candid, humorous, straightforward, no-nonsense autobiography written by first-time author, Sheri Lyn Schwar. Shortly after giving birth to her daughter, the world Sheri arrogantly stood on started to give way, crumbling beneath her, whisking her down an avalanche of health troubles. Told she may die of a rare autoimmune disease, a type of Vasculitis called Takayasu's Arteritis, Sheri refuses to let her disease define her. If you've ever been faced with a potentially life-threatening disease, you will find reassurance, comfort, vindication, validation and plenty of laughs within these pages.

Since I have suffered from vasculitis for 16 years I found this book to be very good and a good book for caregivers to read so that they might get a better sense of what those people with vasculitis really go through.

As a fellow Takayasu’s arteritis patient, I appreciate Schwar’s book very much. Unlike cancer or heart disease, for example, Takayasu’s arteritis is a very rare disease, and as such, little has been written on it from a patient perspective. Reading Schwar’s memoir presented me with an opportunity—my first/only ever—to “converse” with someone who shares my diagnosis, even if not all of my symptoms and experiences. I am grateful to Schwar for writing this book and sharing her story.

That said, I could not give this book five stars due to the numerous typographical and grammatical errors throughout. It’s clear that this book has been self-published, or published without the help of a professional editor. Schwar’s work would benefit from such professional editing, not only to clean up the errors, but also to cut out redundancy and improve the style at times. Full disclosure: I am an English instructor, so I may have read this book with a hypercritical eye. Still, no mainstream book would be released in such a condition.

I have reviewed this book on Amazon many years ago but will gladly put my voice to it again.
Sheri has an insight to the frustrations and trials of a Vasculitis Patient!
As with many diseases of this nature it is important to keep a good attitude.
Sheri delivers her pain and humor within this book. It is a delight to read, especially if you know anyone that is inflicted with this very rare disease of Central Nervous System Vasculitis.
Thanks Sheri for 'Sherring' *smile*
