Der König ist ratlos. Wieso findet er allmorgendlich die Schuhe seiner zwölf Prinzessinnen zertanzt vor deren Betten? Die schönen Töchter schweigen dazu. Der König verspricht dem Mann, der herausfindet, was es mit den zertanzten Schuhen auf sich hat, eine seiner Töchter und sein Königreich. Viele versuchen ihr Glück, aber nur einem gelingt es, das Geheimnis zu lüften.

This jurist and mythologist also authored the monumental German Dictionary and his Deutsche Mythologie .
