Eluding Destiny #4

The Precipice

Rate this book
Our baby's still out there somewhere. And we're hellbent on finding him.

I never saw Micah's face or heard him cry when I birthed him in that cell. I lost so much blood, and when I woke up, I believed Peterson when he told me Micah was dead. Why did I believe him?

No matter how guilty I feel, or how much it hurts, it doesn't matter anymore. What matters now is finding my son.

-Laila

____________________

When Laila told me Micah died, I had no reason not to believe her.

Everything after that though? It was all my fault. I failed more times than I can count. I wanted to do better, to be better, but when you're trying to disguise your heartache, it isn't easy to be the man you want to be.

Now, though, I know my son's alive.

I have a reason to get myself together, and I'm going to. Laila and I are going to find our son, and, hopefully along the way, I can prove to her that my family matters more to me than anything.

It's true that I've lied and made mistakes, but that was always the truth.

My wife and my son are everything to me.

I'm going to right my wrongs or die trying.

-Jeremy

Oh my Lordy! Warning this is a cliffy and a damn good one at that! I dare you not to love it. It’s actually more setting up the scene for the next book to start so please dont let this put you off.
I spent the majority of this book hating Jeremy a little BUT hating Laila a lot. They take making stupid decisions to a new level lol. That’s what makes them so appealing as I’ve said in pervious reviews throughout this series, I love they are ‘not’ perfect and make mistakes like we all do. Who doesn’t love to shout at the lead characters but especially when you know they always do right by the end
This is mostly Jeremy and Lailas journey back to each other where they belong. Good things are coming you can feel it’s there just out of reach. Charlie killed it again with her writing style. The future selfs telling the story and each book giving more and more away on where this saga is going. So much is revealed in this so read carefully for Easter eggs. Why did Lai recognise the childhood code? Haha this is brilliant as it makes the reader salivate at finding this out in the next or next again release! Loved it and it’s becoming my favourite book series! 5/5 dont miss out stars.

What a great read, exciting from the fist pages! Just like the rest of the series I couldn’t bear the thought of putting it down! The characters are just imperfect enough to feel like real people, jumping off the pages and coming alive. I’m now triggered by the phrase one day, but I can’t wait to see how it all ends, and I’m so happy there’s so much more to come!

18+ Dark fantasy MUST READ
First and foremost this is not YA, this 18+ with trigger warnings do not take lightly thank you. Now to the important stuff I LOVE THIS SERIES. Lalia and Jeremy character development is the best not just for them as a couple but as individuals. Through out this book you can understand why they do what they do. It's not an easy journey, they have to work for what they want and I am here for it. Yes im obsessed with this series I can't wait for the next book

🚨Spoiler🚨

First, I absolutely love this journey and watching these characters develop. It’s not just the main characters but also the side characters. It’s not just about personal growth but also growth as a family.

Second, I love that again we discuss the trials of opioid addiction and now this section of the story focuses on recovery and therapy. It’s refreshing to see true life situations situated in a fantasy setting. Everything is relatable. But so much of this story isn’t.

Third, it’s refreshing to see characters and love stories that aren’t perfect. I know it’s a fantasy book but sometimes I want to gag at how sappy and perfect authors make relationships.

Fourth, I know I already told you but I’m saying it for everyone else…the “prophets” are Jeremy and Laila from the future. The scene on the beach confirmed it for me. That’s why they disappeared when Jeremy came up. Obviously due to butterfly effect he can’t see his future self. It all perfectly adds up for me and I will be shocked if I’m wrong. (Don’t tell me I am wrong) lol

Fifth, Jeremy is going to end up dead if he ever thinks for one more damn moment he can put baby in a corner! I can’t believe he actually locked her in a basement. Sigh…Men. They never learn. I would have thought by now he would damn well he can’t stop Laila from doing what she is destined to do.

I know my reviews are getting longer and longer. But I write them for you Charlie. I want you to see how much I love your stories. Thank you for writing this series and never stop being you ❤️

Angels and Guardians and Fae, OH MY!
Add a little sprinkle of Demon for spice, a pinch of
werewolf for sweet, and a cup of human for that extra
salt to bring out all of the flavors. What do you get? A
huge world space with so much room for all kinds of
characters. This story has an adorable cinnamon roll
male lead and salty little ball of sunshine ☀️ for a female
lead.

I never know how to start these reviews! Aaahhh!
There was just so much happening in this book if you really pay attention. So many little hints about things that we don’t know yet. I hated but appreciated the start of the book. The journey is what matters, it was so emotionally painful to get through. But so beautifully well done. These characters are so imperfectly perfect and make so many mistakes. I love them 😍
I was in my little fairy tale mindset in the beginning of the book and was *gasp* appalled that they were seeing other people. But Jeremy and Laila are so REAL, and they were acting like a real couple might. Life isn’t rainbows and abstinence for your one true love. I’m a glutton for punishment and lovvve the emotional break downs.

ALSO can we say TWIST, I did not expect that book or what comes with it. AT ALL. Maybe I should have, but 100% suprised.

My after work nights are LIVING for this journey, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

*Talkin out yer fanny flaps.*

*Just don’t quit trying. We’re all rooting for you.* 🥲

Great story but needs editing

I love this series. It does really need a good edit for spelling, typos, and some sentence clarity. But although those things tend to bother me a lot, they’re worth overlooking in this case. The story is so good, the characters are incredible and real, their stories tear me apart and then build me back up again. I love reading about people who have real struggles - with trauma, addiction, grief, guilt. So refreshing to have an FMC who’s not a naive virgin or prim lady, but who partied and slept around and doesn’t blush at oblique references to genitalia. I’m a little annoyed at how young they all are (did the FMC really need to still be in high school when she got together with the MMC?), but I appreciate that as time passes (4ish years from the first book to the end of this one), they look back and remark on how naive and stupid they were as teenagers.

I am loving this series. This was the hardest book for me to read as the addiction issues are things I have seen in my own life. The writing is great, storyline intriguing, and as always Charlie’s take on the supernatural is refreshing and engaging. As a pregnant person I wanted to strap Laila down myself and was beyond stressed about her absolutely crap decision making when it comes to being a mom. Normally her impulsive behavior is annoying but doable, the end of this book she was acting like a complete narcissist with no regards for anyone but herself. Ugh. But then again, if you are pretty much a god… Can’t wait to read the next one!!

Just keeps getting better!

This series is getting so intense! I love seeing both the supernatural side and the very human side of Laila and Jeremy’s relationship. They’re both so flawed and have so much healing to do but they’re so wonderful together and I just love them so much. The story is picking up and it’s stressing me the heck out and I just cannot stop reading these heckin books!

This book made me feel on the edge of my seat the whole time. I knew that everything would work out the way I expected, but the ride getting there had me frustrated and left me wanting to shake the senses out of Laila. Actually, I think the problem was that she was being senseless. This story continues to build and develop in a way that keeps you entranced and wanting more, and I am here for it!

The emotion and healing journeys that Charlie puts her characters through has been done very well. I enjoyed watching the characters go through realistic healing and coping methods, even if they were making stupid decisions xD. This did end on a cliff hanger and im super mad about it but that just means I have to jump straight into the next one.

Best book so far

The foreshadowing has improved quite a bit. I still prefer Jeremys chapters, I really like him. Laila isn't bad, she's just really impulsive. I love the characters.

I had a hard time getting into this book, don't get me wrong it's an amazing book, but due to my own family past the first few chapters were kind of hard to read but towards the middle of the book when I got past the hard stuff it was great, I didn't want to put it down.

I really love how the author (Charlie Nottingham) writes the story from the perspective of more than just Laila. I do wish that it would have a chapter or two from one of the other characters like Leah, Chris, or any of the other characters.

I believe that the author (Charlie Nottingham) does an awesome job keeping the reader engaged in the book, there are quite a lot of chapters in her books, however, the chapters themselves are not that long.

I do wish that the author (Charlie Nottingham) would have said a little more about why Laila wouldn't wake up at the end of the 3rd book. I don't like when anything is left on a cliffhanger like the third book and now this one, however, it's not going to stop me from reading the next book in the series. I can't wait.

SPOILER ALERT:

I thought that it was really neat how she had Laila and Jeremy find the book (The Last Beginning) written by Laila and Jeremy in the compound that Laila was held in book 3. which happens to be the Pre-Sequel to the Eluding Destiny series. That was a very nice touch.
