Ok so I finished it so it got 2 stars. The main character was soooooo dumb. As if she couldn’t figure things out and her inner dialogue was super annoying. The plot twists were predictable. Last plot twist was absolutely the most ridiculous thing ever. There were a couple good scenes in the book but the MC’s inner dialogue and idiocy ruined them. The one redeeming thing about this book was the nice light it shed on true friendship.
What an extremely lame story and lame book title! Remedial writing. Characters are so dull and disappointing. Lots of whining, repetition, depression and lies and not seeing what’s right in front of your eyes. Skipped a lot to avoid the stupidness of the characters and the plot; when I got to the end, I felt like I had really wasted my previous reading time. Why did I even pick this one to read? It was a kindle unlimited free read with good reviews. 🤔 huh go figure
This book takes place in a small town outside of Nashville, and parts in Nashville. I had real hope for this book, there were a limited amount of characters which made it easy to read. And basically, it held no intrigue for me. I knew almost immediately ‘who done it’, so it was anticlimactic to say the least. But … there was a little surprise at the end, but by that time I was over it, ready to end the book and go find a much better one to read. I just don’t like to read books that are mostly unbelievable. I know that our justice system has its flaws, but this book was just filled with injustices, and made our justice pretty lame to say the least.
This book was a big disappointment. Without giving any of the “twists” away, I felt that so many parts of the book were over the top and down right silly. Of course that’s just my opinion, despite the rave reviews, I guess everyone likes different things.
I loved this book it kept me guessing right up till the end, The story starts with a a local school girl being murdered but who is the killer, Viola is the women who's husband has been accused of the murder? but is he the killer? This book kept me hooked trying to figure out who to trust and who was telling the truth and who lies. I liked some of the characters others not so much. This is a good book that will have you trying to figure things out, then you think you have things figured out and boy was I so wrong.
Great writing again from L G I just get so excited when she releases a book I just love her stories.
This book reads like the author is making up new stuff to throw in there as she goes along. Like any one thing that happens would be a dramatic climax, but the hits just keep on coming! The main character would have had 30 nervous breakdowns enduring all this stuff!
It’s sad but true, convoluted is the only word I can think of. This story ricochets all over the place, and once it seems like it’s ending, the author decides to add another plot twist for no reason. Luckily this is through kindle unlimited!
Brittney McLaren's body is found in a grave in the woods that is close to the school she went to. She was reported missing three months earlier. This causes a huge nightmare for Viola and Alex Watson when Alex is arrested for her murder. Alex was a janitor at the school she went to. Viola can't believe this because her own father went to prison for the murder of another girl years ago. The timing couldn't be worse because Viola is pregnant and is hoping to actually be able to have this baby, but she is having problems with the pregnancy. But is her husband a murderer? Viola finds out secrets that will change not only her life but others also. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Oh what a tangled web we weave ... what another spectacularly written psychological thriller with only the masterful twists, plots and surprises that LG Davis can construe! Viola and Alex Watson are expecting another baby again where they reside in Tennessee, like the unborn losses before, she is praying this one is born healthy . In the blink of an eye her husband, the janitor Ends up in jail accused of the murder of a high school cheerleader of which he works. Alex is no killer, or so Viola wishes to believe , and is relieved when he is released and another is arrested for the crime. One year earlier before the Watson’s moved, another local girl was found murdered. Was this coincidence or was Alex really a murderer? There are so many players in this game, with three families intertwined and so much finger pointing that we really don’t know who killed Brittany until the very end! As usual Davis has another gripping blockbuster on her hands! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Although there were interesting twists, none of it made sense. It was as if it were written by an elementary school child with no knowledge of the world or people's behavior. No character development just action that was not believable. The only reason I finished it was because it was for my book club. Most book club members didn't finish it and out of those that did, not one person who read it liked it.
This story is so unbelievable and the main character and narrator is so intensely stupid it is painful!!! I cant believe the high ratings this book is getting here!!!
This book was pretty good at first and then the plot points towards the end got nothing short of ridiculous the ending sort of reminded me of the end of an episode of Scooby-Doo or something.
Not a psychological suspense thriller in my humble opinion
I would not recommend this book to anyone. I kept waiting for all the suspenseful thrills, that's the only reason I didn't quit reading it. There were so many circumstances crammed into this story, it became so unbelievable to me. The main character never seemed to "grow up" and made her man her life. Really sorry I read it.
This is a story about Viola and Alex. They meet in high school. He is over-weight, bullied and has some issues. This is really glossed over. Viola seems to think Alex has put that all behind him. There are red flags all over the place, but she ignores them all. Viola is trying to have a baby and miscarries many times. She doesn't see Alex for who is he because she is so focused on the babies. Understandable, but there are some things I think she should have realized.
Every time she lost a baby, Alex disappears for a period of time. She thinks he does this to grieve. Then he talks her into moving to a new town. Then they are able to afford IVF but have no money? I don't know where she thinks he is getting the money.
The last town they are in, Alex is arrested and accused of murdering a young high school girl at the school he works at. The whole town goes against Alex and Viola. Understand the anger at Alex, but Viola? She is married to the guy but everyone thinks she had to have known what she did.
I like it up until it the part with Viola's Mom. It is totally ridiculous, totally unbelievable, the actions of her Mother and her Father. From there, I think it went down-hill.
Somewhat interesting, but not at all what I expected. I really wouldn't recommend it to friends. It never really captured me enough to stick with it, but I hate to not finish a book, so I did.
This book was an excellent example of some solid ideas that were poorly executed. The writing was choppy at best, simplistic without much development. If the revelations of the twists were written in a more subtle way, this would have been much more enjoyable. However, the author simply tells us exactly what happened xyz without letting suspense build within the falling actions.
The husband never was like able, the main character Viola was insipid, and the rest of the characters were under-developed.
I’m shocked at the great reviews. It *is* an easy read, as it is probably on a 5th grade Lexile level… so maybe that’s a positive thing for many readers?
I’ll say this… I did appreciate the lack of profanity. So I’m throwing in an extra star for that.
Viola was 15,when she fell madly in love with Alex, got pregnant and was told by her mother, that she was a very bad girl and she never wanted to see her again. After 15 yrs.of marriage, a local High School Cheerleader gets raped and murdered, she unfortunately, went to the same school, where Viola's,husband worked as a janitor.
Alex,Viola's husband was accused of the murder and the town, that they had lived in for a yr.all turned against her as well. Viola was pregnant for the fourth time and was terrified, she would lose this baby like the last three, due to all the stress.
Well, wonder of wonders,Alex was let out of jail, due to lack of evidence and his boss, the head janitor was charged with the crime. About this time,Alex's mother enters the picture and she is a very wealthy lady. Needless to say,she doesn't like Viola and the feeling is mutual. The story starts to get crazy from here and just when you think, that you have things figured out, they take another turn.
This is not my usual genre' as it's about as far from.WW11 books,as you can get. However,I started reading it and by the end of the first few pages, was really hooked and wanting to see what happened next. If you like a great thriller, with a lot of twists and turns, you'll love reading this one. L.G.Davis has got my vote and I will be wanting more !

Augh, this did not scratch my itch for a murder mystery for two reasons: One, I listened to the audiobook and I found the narrator to be overwrought; it was distracting from start to finish.
Two: As a reader, I cannot stand when a book is in its resolution and then reopens with new plot lines, complications, and new conflicts; it is a pet peeve, and this story does it IN SPADES. Yes, I could predict most of the ending early on, but it was still worth reading because of a compelling protagonist. The meandering that was introduced in the last five chapters was TORTUOUS.
This was my first time reading this author, definitely won't be the last! I ABSOLUTELY loved everything about this book! Kept me interested, and guessing till the very end! Worth every 5 ⭐
This is an interesting read of a married couple, Viola and Alex Watson, who have lost a number of babies through miscarriage and end up moving home to another city after each tragedy, to have a fresh start. Her husband works as a high school janitor, whilst Viola is pregnant again and hoping that the baby will be born safe and healthy this time. That is until Alex is arrested for the murder of a high school student who went missing some three months before. When Viola got pregnant the first time round, as a teenager, her mother threw her out and Alex’s parents refused to help them, even forcing him out if he was going to stick with her. They have survived all these years together, amidst all the recurring tragedy each baby’s death brings. Viola refuses to believe her husband is guilty or could possibly done such a horrific deed. They don’t have the money to hire a lawyer and will have to put their hopes into a public defender. That is until someone else hires a really good lawyer for him and gets him out of prison! Viola lost her own father when he was accused of murder and then supposedly killed himself whilst in prison. She had never believed her father was guilty and her mother won’t discuss the matter. Now her own husband has been accused of murder and she struggles with the way she suddenly starts to get treated in town as well as the despair she feels. She works part time in a hairdressers shop and is asked to take some time off by the owner and someone she thought was a friend. She is harassed at her home and almost attacked by people in her town, who don’t want her there after her husband is arrested for the girl’s murder. Viola has only one friend she can contact to ask for help, Lavinia, but her husband Jeffrey, who works with Alex and knows him well, isn’t keen on her staying with them and tells her to leave! Viola just wants to find out the truth behind the murder and to get her husband back where he should be. What eventually is uncovered is more shocking than you can imagine and more deaths follow, whether from guilt or murder, is awaiting the reader to find them out. There are more twists and turns in this storyline than spaghetti junction! Lots of secrets, guilt, cover-ups, betrayal and lies for years. I can’t wait to read more by this author and even bought this book after receiving an ARC copy from BookSprout, I enjoyed it so much. I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
