Shadowy government agencies are stalking me, Alchemist terrorists want to weaponize me, and my dad is still missing. If that's not bad enough, the world's most eligible vampire bachelor wants me to bring his dead girlfriend back to life.
Me? I just want to find my dad and return to my simple life. And maybe keep my heart intact.
But in order to get what I want, I may have to give others what they want. And in the process, I just might discover more than I bargained for. Namely, the truth of who — and what — I am.
This series has promise…but it seems to be squandered. The main characters - in love. Barely any interaction. It seemed like this was going to be set up as a reverse harem (but no). Supporting characters like Ethan are thrown in as ways to disrupt things - he’s an Opal…working for one of the Primes…no he’s CIA…sold her out… it’s a constant whiplash. The notion that it’s “always been” Fiona is weird. Don’t get me started on Connor’s origins…rule #1 of writing vampire romances is to get the history right. Definitely not going to buy the next book - not when it’s 132 pages. Not worth it.
I struggled at the start of this one; it felt like I was missing a transition from book one and book two. I didn't enjoy this one as much, but I still read it in one sitting. The story isn't long, so I feel like a depth is missing it also unfortunately ends on another quasi-cliffhanger. I will give book three a chance.
If your looking for real steam, then this is not the book for you, nor the author for that matter.
I am so disappointed with this book, with the author and with the FMC. All this time waiting for Conner and Fiona to finally get together and what does the author do? She skips over the actual steam. Basically, she tells you just enough to let you know their having sex but gives no detail. Barely one paragraph!!!!! Now, I feel like I’ve just wasted my time. I’m not looking for smut or anything, but I need actual steam. Again, I feel completely cheated. My other complaint is Fiona. She runs away, again, and she runs away when Conner is not even in the state. To me, she is a coward. She acts like a self-centered brat sometimes. Also, I can’t stand this one sided pov. I want to hear what Conner’s thinking. I can’t stand the FMC’s name “Fiona”. To me Fiona will always be associated with the green chick in Shreck:(. Anyway, these are my biggest problems with this book. I’m done with this series. Now that I know the author will just skim over the actual steam, I’m done.
I've had so much fun reading this series. I really enjoy the author's style and how she describes the world:
We were parked outside a nondescript two-story motel, the kind found on back roads across the country, that generated just enough income to stay open but not enough to update to the current century.
When I read this, I can clearly see it and know exactly what kind of place she is talking about.
I love that Fiona has not devolved into a damsel in distress and how consistent her character is:
“Katrina gave me a flat stare. “It’s the whole damsel-in-distress mystique. Plus, those big gray peepers are all shiny and earnest, singing ‘Help me! Help me!’'” I laughed and threw a piece of candy at her. “You’re full of shit. I’m the opposite of a wilting damsel.” She grinned, stretching her arms over her head until her back cracked. “Well, I know that, but men, they’re not as quick in the heads.”
Also, I just love being privy to Fiona's thoughts. She has an interesting mind that, like Connor, makes me chuckle too.
My first thought, upon hearing my mother’s voice, was that I should be surprised but wasn’t. My second thought was to wonder if surprise was a finite resource that, once used up, ceased to be an available emotion.
Usually urban fantasies are somewhat of a turn off for me because they always seem to devolve into detective cases and I just get tired of that trope. I highly recommend this series if you're looking for a kickass heroine, paranormal romance, and an interesting world.
Overall Rating :: 4 stars Series :: Book two of the Ascension series. POV :: All Fiona. HEA ::

Okay. I love this series. Short and fun, well-written, and wholly engaging. Even with new character revelations, it doesn't change the world, just the character interactions. It's just so freaking well done, man. And usually, it bugs me when the heroine is this perfect creature in which every man puts on a pedestal. But man, I totally buy it here. It actually makes sense, given her other background. A testament to the writing, and my apparent obsession with all things L.M. Halloran. Sorry, not sorry. I can't wait for the next book!
Hell no. The ending fucked it. Badly. The FMC decides to run away and hide from her big bad vamp lover because… nah we don’t get a reason. It doesn’t make a lick of sense. Connor, our lover, says he’s in love with her and apparently she loves him too soooo girl you’re leaving him because?
At this point, I think the author is just tryna milk out this series as much as she can. There’s absolutely no need for her to fuck off. And wtf does Delilah’s prophecy mean?
It’s not looking good for the next books if this one has had a massive dip in quality from the first one.
I found this book to be just as interesting as the first book in the series. I love that Fiona is slowly learning more about her parentage. Like Fiona... I'm not sure that I trust that mother of hers. We don't have enough history on her... other then what we do know is bad. She is manipulative, and appears to be using everybody for her own ends. Even those she claims to love. She is supposedly working for a government agency... but I'm not sure I am buying that. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
This is the second book in the series and I found it entertaining. I gave three stars because it was simply too short to be considered anything less than a novella. I don't know if I will continue to follow this particular series as it seems as though the author is unable to give a complete book or at the very price accordingly. .99 cent wouldn't be unreasonable for a hundred and six-teen page book. Otherwise the story was pretty good.
I can't help loving the fledgling romance between Fiona and Connor. She's, of course, going to screw up and drive him insane, but doesn't that have to happen even in great love matches? I can't wait to see what happens next and how Fiona will bridge the chasms of worlds, cultures, species and powers. The story has hooked me and I can't wait to be reeled in.
The FMC keeps making stupid decisions and it's making her weak. I can't understand how at her age she can still act like a dumb teen. This had action, a twist i wasn't expecting and a storyline that you could predict from a mile away. Not sure I'll continue this series......
Being stalked is scary, but being stalked by a immortal takes love to a whole new level.Do Fiona and Connor really have a chance when there are much more pressing things going on in the world.I’m loving this book series.I loved Ascension and Reckoning and looking forward to the rest of the series.
Starting where book 1 left off, Fiona has been taken by the Liberati. She narrowly escaped only to end up in a new predicament where her emotional strength is challenged.
This book is a bit more romance and a little less storyline. If you enjoy fantasy romance, this one is for you. The author did a decent job of avoiding being cheesy or overly steamy.
Books 1&2 are essentially a duet (1 book split in 2; should be part 1 of the series). The good guys won, however bad guy leaders are still at large, setting up future books in the series. BUT, are some of the bad guys good guys? And vice versa. Increased fae involvement.
Good read!!! It continues to keep me captivated!! Looking very much forward to next in series ♥️ just wish Connor an Fiona would kick ass an take names hopefully it will come to pass 😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Not as good as the first book, I found the main character to be quite annoying in this one. Seemed to make decisions just to make the story interesting but didn't really suit the actual character profile at all from the way it made her seem in the first book.
So, I usually refuse to buy a 2nd book when the first one was "free". I do pay for the unlimited subscription. I enjoyed the first two books but after reading reviews for the third, I am done with the series.
I enjoyed this book and the characters are likable. I find both the plot and writing to be a bit odd. But seeing as I'm still reading and intend to get the next one. It is worth a read.
The story and action just kept me glued to what was going on. The up and down emotions, twists, slow burn, and fast pace kept me reading every spare moment all afternoon long.
I fully enjoyed this book and where it took us from the first book Ascension. I still love the FMC and am loving the MMC. The action in this book is too tier and the way they fight for each other is something to admire. I love it.
I feel cheated… You are supposed to be with responsible living adult that are « growing » during the storytelling. Which is absolutely not what happened there. This is too bad, I like the 1st book. I will not continue this.
