Dirty #3

Dirty Like Seth

Rate this book
A reunited-friends-to-lovers redemption story, featuring a fallen hero in need of forgiveness, a superstar heroine who knows how lonely it is at the top, and a secret love that flourishes despite the odds stacked against it.

They all thought they knew him,
but only she knew his heart.

Seth Brothers had it all: the hottest rock album in the world, more money than he’d ever dreamed of, and Dirty—the band he loved like family.
Not bad for a former orphan and street kid.
But as Dirty hit the big time, Seth’s demons got the better of him and he hit bottom.
He lost it all—over an addiction, a whole lot of mistakes, and an ugly misconception.

Now all Seth’s got is a bad reputation, the guitar on his back, and a heart full of regrets.
And one last chance to get it all back… if he can crash an audition to join his former band—and slay it.

He slays it.
But he doesn’t get what he wants.
Instead, he gets the one thing he never expected: someone to believe in him.

As Dirty’s bassist, Elle Delacroix has it all—except the one thing that truly matters.
Love.
The only thing Seth has to give.

But if Seth really wants his life back, he’ll have to give it everything he’s got and then some.
Including the hardest truth.

There are two sides to every rock ’n’ roll story; it’s time for Seth to tell his.

So far, this was my favourite book in the series.

I loved how we finally got some closure on Seth's side of the story of his addiction. I also really loved how he was portrayed in this book, broken but putting himself back together.

Elle wasn't my favourite character in the previous books, particular in book one, but she really redeemed herself here. I liked how the author explored how heartbreak feels and how moving on isn't a linear path for everyone. I liked how Elle was a bit obnoxious and sometimes annoying, because instead of making her character unlikeable (like it did in the previous books) it made her human. We got to see what she was actually thinking in this book and why she struggled so much with her breakup with Jesse.

Elle being a skinny, pretty, blonde girl was a lot less irritating than I anticipated it to be. She wasn't as vain as she came across in the previous books.

I did think that the book could have been better. As with all the previous installments in this series, I truly think that Diamond has some serious potential, but she keeps leaving the readers with stories that don't feel complete. For example, with this book, I wanted more of an exploration of Elle's development as a musician and how she ended up with Dirty in the first place. I also felt that there wasn't enough grovelling done on the part of the band towards Seth after everything they put him through. Diamond doesn't elicit the same "sated" feeling from me that I get with other books (like the Twisted series by Ana Huang or the Kingmakers series by Sophie Lark).

Seth and Elle were cute together, but Elle didn't show enough of the love that Seth deserved to be shown. I think that a couple more chapters of Elle really describing WHY she loves him and WHAT she loves about him would have made this book a whole lot better.

Overall, not bad, not incredible, but good enough to be rounded up instead of down.

SPOILER:

The FMC becomes pregnant, but I didn't mind it because it wasn't the catalyst to the relationship, nor did she try to hide it. Sort of accidental pregnancy, but without the drama.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, as to be honest I really liked the snippet of Elle and Ash in the last book. I knew that Elle needed her own book and I never expected her story to involve the former band member. That said what we get from this book really ties up several loose ends for the entire band.

From the very first book of the series we find a rock band that is struggling off the stage. Elle is front and center of the drama after breaking up with Jesse and things seem to spiral. What we come to find is that Elle is so much more than we had expected and it takes someone like Seth the former guitarist to pull her from behind the wall she built to protect herself. We see Elle struggle with Ash and he lack of feelings which is hard, as he is such an amazing character [HINT HINT.......he needs his own book]. That said what she sees behind the exterior of Seth rocks her footing and she knows it is more than she ever thought possible.

Seth is a very unique character and one that values his friends/aka band member above himself. We learn quickly that well he had his demon with drugs the band was always at the foreground of his mind. I would have enjoyed being at his audition for the band, as the emotion he puts into his music was something else all together. You learn quickly that Elle means a great deal to him and watching him fight for the band and later for her was very rewarding. I can honestly say that he brought back the missing piece to everyone around him and it made the bond of the band even stronger.

The question is will he give up his dream of rejoining the band for the women he never expected to want his heart and soul?

*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you're looking for a book that blames a 16 year old teenage girl for the sexual abuse that she experienced in order to redeem the MMC, who was 19 yo man abusing drugs and a 16 yo... well this is the book for you. And the FMC justifying it because of her own experiences.

Yeah, nah. Still a child.

I’m so in love with the Dirty rock series and cannot believe that Ms. Diamond always gives me another of Dirty’s hot rock stars to swoon over. This is Seth’s story; the bad boy who’s drug addiction had him kicked out of the band the first time and his second time was because of vicious allegation to something that was completely opposite than what he was accused of.

Seth had a hard life coming from an orphanage and living on the streets. Zane, Dirty’s lead singer, had pulled Seth in to a band practice back in the day and they all soon seen the talent that Seth possessed. Seth’s demons at the time took over his life and it took many tries at rehab after being cut from the band before he was able to get his life back on track.

Now Dirty was looking for a replacement for Seth after all this time and what better way to do this but by holding blind auditions and having it filmed for t.v.! This was Seth’s last chance to get back to his family, to Dirty. The band was very discouraged because no matter how many people they heard no one came even close to what they old bandmate had given them…until the last guy to audition for the day. Yep, Seth killed it but upon seeing him, Seth was met by disapproving looks and not one bit of welcoming home.

Elle, Dirty’s bassist, was the only one to want to give Seth another try but no one else spoke up for Seth and it so happened that they were taking a break from the auditions and Elle was heading for vacation time in Hawaii. Upon driving to the airport she sees Seth sitting on a curb talking to a man who looked to be homeless, picked him up and whisked him away to Hawaii with her so that some of her questions could be answered about Seth and his true intentions.

Would Elle ever get to see the real Seth and even if she did would the rest of the guys from the band hold it against her for even talking to him? Her place in the band could be on the line as well. So sit back and dig in if you are ready for some music being made both in and out of the sheets. There are plenty of surprises that will make this one h*ll of a page turner. Do yourself a favor and read the prior books in the Dirty series which are all fantastic. You won’t regret it if you are a rock romance lover like me.

4.5⭐️ - This worked for me on every level. I really wanted to get a meaty story for Seth and I sure got it! He was such a good man with a very troubled past but he never victimized himself, made excuses or acted out. He handled life with such grace and humility. He was also so resilient.

I was scared that Elle might’ve ended up as too challenging or self righteous but she was actually so relatable. I didn’t love the way she treated Ash tho. He was a good guy and clearly cared for her. She did owe him an explanation regardless of feelings or not simply because they did start as friends.

This was too long with too much sex but I adored the way the relationship developed between the MCs. It did feel natural and the way they fought for each other worked!

While I never advocate for the “surprise pregnancy” I’m not always mad about it. This story didn’t need it but there was something about Seth finally having a family that made me all gooey inside.

It was okay. Not my favorite in the series. I wasn't looking forward to this since Brody and Jessa's book did not paint Seth in a great light. And there was supposed to be a redemption arc in this book. And there sorta was? But I also feel like there was a lot of stuff unresolved from Jessa's book that wasn't dealt with. And I thought Elle and Seth's love story was a little too unbelievable. I liked the two of them together but the build up wasn't drawn out enough.

I'm skipping Dirty like Dylan since menage a trois aren't my thing. But I also read reviews that it's not a GOOD menage a trois story anyway, since Ash basically gets no one. Which makes me really sad because I actually started to like him in this book.

So onto Jude!

I have conflicted feelings about this pairing. I don't know that hooking Elle up with another bandmate is a great idea. Seth gets a fast more flattering light than the Pecos book made it sounded like he deserved more redemption than he actually did imo. That was my big dissatisfaction with the book. Diamond pushed really hard on what happened between Seth and Jessa in the last book and effectively walks most of it back.

Seth Brothers was kicked out of Dirty almost seven years ago not long after an almost fatal heroin overdose. Now Seth is clean and sober and wants back in Dirty, especially when he sees they are holding open auditions for his old position. Dirty has never been able to find the right rhythm guitarist to replace Seth Brothers and has gone through many. They offered Seth his position back a few months back, but the band manager Brody accused Seth of raping Jessa, Jesse Mayes's sister and c0-writer to the band and Seth was swiftly let go again.
Seth had a sordid past with Jessa, but she swears Seth never raped her and that Brody and Jesse are both being overprotective. Zane and Elle want Seth back in the band and Elle finds herself having feelings for Seth after inviting him to Hawaii with her. While the two spend time in Hawaii, Seth is honest about his past and not using again and Elle finds a clean and sober Seth impossible to resist. After they hookup she says it's just sex but can't seem to stay away from him and asks him to work on music with her, they work together well but can't fight their feelings for one another.
When two other Dirty members join them working on an album the band decides to tell Jesse and Brody, they want Seth back in the fold and everything blows up, but Brody and Jesse eventually learn that not everything is as it seems with why Seth left and what happened with Jessa. As all this drama goes down Elle discovers she's pregnant with Seth's baby and decides that she want him no matter how the band feel about it.
Seth as an addict was a hard character for me to relate to but sober and clean, I found that I understood his demons and struggles more. He thought that he was completely to blame for something that a lot of other people were involved in, and he sought redemption with the people he considered family. Elle really sought out love and acceptance and she found that in Seth, she also found herself realizing that she wanted different things than the band and had different opinions. This series is the perfect mix of angst and romance and I love the band members so far! They're very human and not at all perfect and I love to read that. In each book you discover more humanized traits and more flaws about them. I can't wait to read more about Dylan who seems like a sweetheart who may need a bit of a backbone. I'm glad that Elle and Seth are working things out and seeing where their relationship leads them, especially since Elle is pregnant and it's obvious, they care deeply for one another.

Gah, this Dirty series just keeps getting better and better! I’ve been dying for Elle’s side of the story—dying to know what makes her tick. She’s a beautiful enigma in past books in this series and I couldn’t wait to dive into Dirty Like Seth to see where things went.

And, holy moly, I wasn’t disappointed at all!

I got an even better story than I could have imagined. I loved how Seth and Elle opened up to each other. That they finally we able to voice their mutual attraction to each other, but also that they loved making music together—the music is really what brought them together.

I loved seeing Elle finally take a stand with the rest of the band. To finally voice her opinion and be heard. To finally come out from the cloud that was the broken relationship with Jesse.

And Seth. Damn, where do I even start. The man is constantly aware of himself, his feelings, his triggers, his coping mechanisms and his strength in character. He’s traveled a long way on his recovery journey, and yet he never lost his love of music

Sigh. I need to read Dirty Like Seth again. To get back into Elle and Seth’s heads again. To watch them fall in love again. God, I can’t wait for more in Dirty Like Dylan. ~ Missy, 5 stars

After the disaster that was Dirty Like Brody I was desperately hoping that Seth would be better. And boy, did he deliver. He and Elle are just so healthy and good together. I liked the plot line of Seth getting back with the band A LOT. I could've done without the pregnancy, I just simply despise babies in my romance novels, but oh well. Read this book in one sitting so it's definitely getting four fat stars.

Oh absolutely!

I love me a redemption story. Especially when the person in question got the tough end of the stick.

Seth and Elle are a match made in heaven. Both have their own emotional roller-coaster to go through, but together, it's easy to forget all the background noise. The crazy chemistry. The sweet connection. The raw emotion.. I loved everything about them.

Brody stressed me here, but that's the best thing about getting each story.. perspective. It's a funny thing and different for everyone. I really like how the author navigated the many personalities and their feelings towards the situation. I love how Seth didn't even try to justify himself but instead remained calm and honest. Honestly.. it was perfectly done.

Another successful read and Seth may just be my favourite so far.

This is my second favorite book in the Dirty series by Jaine Diamond.

Elle: The first thing I'm going to say is that this book changed my mind about Elle. You really don't see much of her in the other books but what you do see doesn't make you like her. However, in this book I felt like I WAS her. In the sense that I fully understood her heartbreak and really felt like I related to her more than any of the other characters Jaine writes. By the end of the book, I loved this character!

Seth: Such a good character! Again, you don’t really get much time with Seth from the other books except for Dirty Like Zane (which comes after this book in the series order). In the first few books, he’s mentioned, and you get a glimpse of him in Dirty Like Brody - but all of it was enough to peak my interest. Different from Elle, I was really curious to read about Seth. The way that Jaine writes about Seth's struggle with addiction (not only in this one but ESPECIALLY in Zane's book) is really well done and helps you understand the character better. Not to mention Seth was quiet but was so good to Elle I loved it. Him and Elle deserved each other and to be happy.

5 stars for this one too!

"He was teaching me, with his kisses, with his hands on my body, with the patient insistence of his thrusts, how to put the pieces back together. How to feel good again, from the inside out."

Seth is an amazingly real character who I readily related to. Diamond did an amazing job of bringing the darkness of addiction to life. It feels raw and hear rendering. His struggles and what he overcomes made Seth an easy favorite of the series. He goes through it and still perseveres.

Elle is so strong that seeing her soft and struggling was wonderful to read. She truly is able to look beyond Seth's past and see the man he has become. She learns through his love to put her needs first, to find a balance between work and home, and to stand up for what is right and fair.

This is a well written book that was easy to get through and hard to put down

I really wanted to love this book. But the whole Seth practically begging to have a place in the band thing put me off. After all this couldn't be the only the band needing a guitarist, and even if it was-start your own band .

Meh. Very much like the the first books... but I just didn’t like Elle at all. No biggie. Moving on. (And I’m sort of over the stupid dirty talk, oral sex... it’s just overkill on the raunch. Can we please just have a little more actual story!?)

Seth Brothers was fired from the band DIRTY for drug use and not getting his crap together basically. Then after getting clean he has another chance to be in the band. It lasted 2 seconds because of Brody and his interpretation of what happened between Seth and Jessa. Jessa the love of Brody's life and Jesse's sister did not agree with his replay of the past but really did not stand up for Seth either so the band was again out of Seth's reach.

Elle has been through hard times with the band. Dating Jesse and then Jesse telling her he was not in love and breaking it off, that made it difficult to work along side him and the other members of Dirty. Elle even over a 1 year later still feels lost. Now having friends with benefits with Ash is a plus for the sexual part of her life but she still feels empty and lost. Ashley Player is hung up on Elle but he is still Ash PLAYER so he does what he does.

When Seth tries out for a blind audition for Dirty's replacement of HIM they won't budge on letting him back in the band because of the miscommunication with the Jessa fiasco. So Elle being on her way to a lovely and well deserved vacation in Hawaii asks Seth to go with her. Elle feels bad for how things went down with Seth and does not believe what Brody said happened between Seth and Jessa. She needs the real story, she needs to find out if Seth is still clean, she needs to apologize and mend their friendship because she still loves Seth and misses his friendship and wants him in her life.

Hawaii got the 2 talking and mended some of the wounds they both had on the matter. Elle is determined to get to the bottom of the history and communicate that Seth is a good guy, clean, sober and needs to be back in the band.

Elle cannot deny her feelings for Seth or the attraction she feels for him. She finely feels the alone-less fade when Seth is near. She feels happy and she is laughing. Elle needs to keep Seth around for her own broken heart. Seth can mend it.

I like Seth's character because he never gave up trying to get back into the band. He never gave up on his talent and music and when something (Elle) better came along he was willing to sacrifice for it. He was willing to give Elle up so she did not have such a hard time in Dirty and the rumors that were flying around.

Elle's character is sad and lost and you feel that with every part Elle has in this series. From book #1 you feel her loneliness, her sorrow, her black cloud. I thought the author was going to have Elle try to commit suicide to be honest, she was just so sad. I'm glad she did not go that route and gave Elle a happy ending.

Ash is now the lost one with a crush on his "Straight" best friend and just trying to through another day. Dylan seems reserved and quiet and I really like that but I have a feeling that Dylan's feelings for Ash are similar and maybe he is not as STRAIGHT as he thinks he is. They double team the girls all the time so maybe it is time to add Ash into the picture and take it to the next level for their HEA.

I liked this book soo much better than the previous ones in this series. Don’t get me wrong I love Jessie and Katie and I like Brody and Jessa but Seth and Elle are everything.
Seth’s my baby. I can’t even tell you how much I wanna protect this man. He’s been through some shit and he deserves the world. And Elle, she seems like kind of an ice princess when getting glimpses of her in the other books but I actually really liked her in this. I liked her a lot better than I thought I was going to.

Sometimes when reading books I’m ready for the characters to just get on with it and/or get it on cuz I’m bored of the plot and ready for something to happen but the plot in this book kept me interested, so yeah them getting together was there but I wasn’t as interested in that part as just what was happening with the entire ‘Dirty’ family. The past, the mistakes, the misunderstandings, all the shit that got covered up and that nobody knew about, the present, them fighting for Seth to get his place in the band back, him and Elle falling in love and everything coming to light. I actually really enjoyed this book.

I can’t wait for Zanes and Maggie’s book. I just know it’s gonna slap.

Ms Diamond has the uncanny ability to make me fall head over heels for every freakin member of Dirty and Seth just sky-rocketed to the head of the list. This story had me in tears for the ex member of Dirty, you feel what he feels and rooting for him the whole way, hell I was reverting back to cheer leading status. Ms Diamond was also capable of having me real close to throat punching my last two favorites (I still love you Jesse & Brody) but yeah. I loved Elle, her heartbreak, determination and doing what she wanted to do in a big boy club had me cheering for her too. There are soo many characters that need books of their own in this story and lucky for us the two I can't wait to read are up next. This book ended at around 68% on my Kindle, but do not skip the epilogue and bonus epilogue, and especially the Dirty recaps because there you will find what's next - OMG One month and counting.

The Delight
Dirty Like Seth with tear you up, put you back together and you will feel happy you went through it all. Hotter than the sun, these two bring you to your knees and have you begging for more, please, Jaine Diamond!

Review
The story opens with Seth having a lot of history with the band, but he has been kicked out once, kicked out while trying to come back and he wants his place back in the band now. He has cleaned himself up from the drugs, worked hard to be a better person and when he is wrongly accused of raping the sister of the lead singer, he wants to prove a point that only he can be the guitarist they need. He's right, but he is also fighting a brother and husband who aren't reasonable with it comes to Jessa.

Elle isn't one of the original band mates, but she has been around long enough to see some of what went down in the early days of the band. Seth was screwed over. His rights to the songs he co-wrote taken away from him and when he hit rock bottom and was kicked out, he had nothing. She held him while he was overdosing, but when he made a comeback she didn't know the true story of why he wasn't allowed back.

The open auditions for a guitarist is being made into a reality show. They aren't allowed to see who the guitarist is until they are done, but they know right away they found the one they need only to realize it's the one they always needed. Seth is instantly on guard, but when he is thrown out he leaves. Elle isn't on board with an automatic dismissal and maybe some of the band members aren't as well. Especially since the full story of what went down wasn't exactly share with everyone.

Elle is burned out so she is headed to Hawaii for a much needed time of relaxation. Ash, who supposedly was supposed to just be her fuck buddy, is getting more possessive and falling in love with her when she feels nothing but friendship with him. Leaving him behind, she sees Seth from her car on the way to the airport and picks him up to go with her.

This isn't an instant love or even a rekindling of something. They both were attracted to each other in the early days, but Seth was warned she was off limits. His relationship with Jessa was kept secret from most, but one member you find out actually orchestrated a few things between them. They have hard discussions, healing walks, quiet time to heal. Seth isn't the only one hurting. Elle is still recovering from the break up with Jesse and his instant marriage to Katie. I didn't go in with a great image of Elle, but once you understand her, you understand why letting go is one of the hardest things she has to do.

Seth just wants his music to start. He wants to be part of the band, part of something that lives and breathes his soul. Elle offers him that and even co-creates with him knowing her band mates might find issue with her dealings. It starts out as a one and done when both start to feel the draw to have more, but both have been hurt and it isn't going to be easy for either if they have to give up on their dreams or even on each other.

This is a hard story of redemption, forgiveness, building a life and recovering. There are parts you just want to smack a few people (and no I am not a smacker in real life, only one in my mind). At times you are uplifted by just how much Seth had to overcome to get to where he is today.  Tentative hope blossoms as things come together in a fragile bond that could be easily broken. By far this is my favorite book in the series so far and that is saying a lot since I have read them all...except for the last one.

And if you think this is all kumbaya, it's not. There is down and dirty rough sex that will knock your panties into orbit. It's rough, raw and exactly what they need...and I needed to read. I can't recommend this book enough, but I have to say start from the beginning because you need to know some backstories to truly appreciate their story.

I appreciate that each of these books feel original despite having a ton of the same characters. I really wasn't sure how we were going to turn Seth's character around after how book 2 ended but I think the author did a good job building the arc of such a clearly flawed person. Although why these models and rock stars are not on birth control will forever be beyond me. Seems kind of stupid given how much sex these characters have.

Great characters!

While this was a very good story, it was not full length. In fact it ended at 73% which, to me, feels like a ripoff. Now that I’ve vented, I want to say that once again we were given a satisfying storyline that was unconventional to most rockstar books. I really love that aspect. I really love these characters and am quite happy to read their stories. Dylan’s is next and I’m especially looking forward to it.

This book was a great come back story. Seth was trying to find redemption without thinking he was going. He tried thinking he would never get what he wanted most. When he got something better than he ever planned. I know that doesn't make any sense, but read the story and it will make sense.
