This one had potential but whew… it needed a lil more help in the editing room.
Let me start by saying the story definitely keeps you intrigued, it’s fast-paced for sure, but honestly, maybe too fast at times.? Like blink and we’re in a whole new setting, a whole new vibe, a whole new relationship dynamic with zero buildup. It was hard to keep up with.
The writing itself felt kinda juvenile. More like the tone and dialogue could’ve used some polish. And let’s talk about Sarai’s family… baby. I’d have BEEN cut those broke, dusty folks off. They were disrespectful, ungrateful, and didn’t bring nothing positive to her life. Her keeping them around made no sense.
The romance? Felt super forced. That office scene with Malik came outta nowhere. Like no build-up, no tension, just vibes and a kiss. Next thing you know, they smashing and calling each other “baby” the next day. Nahhh. It jumped from enemies to lovers without doing any of the work to earn it. I like a slow burn or at least a reason to root for them, and this wasn’t it.
The big relationship “conflict” was another head-scratcher. Y'all are pushing 30 and couldn’t be bothered to have one real conversation? 🙄 Everything could’ve been cleared up if they just talked like adults.
Also, there were too many inconsistencies. Like who was blocking who? Who wasn’t answering calls? Sarai’s POV and Malik’s POV were not syncing. Plot holes everywhere. Her mom talking to Malik? When? How? Why? It felt like entire scenes or explanations were missing. Also (and maybe this is just a pet peeve) but how we start off with a girls trip to Mexico and halfway through it’s suddenly the Bahamas? That switch-up had me flipping back pages like did I miss something?
Overall, this book was trying to do a lot, but it needed more development, better pacing, and an editor who was really gon’ tighten things up. I wanted to enjoy it more, but the lack of consistency and rushed romance made it hard to stay locked in.
3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 (I'll explain this later).
Pressure is the second book of the Pierce Motors series by Chiquita Dennie, it is a romance set in the high powered world of wealth and racing car teams. This is a standalone book but this is also a fun series.
In this book, we find out more about Malik Pierce. He has been selected by his cousin to be next in line as the CEO of the race car team, Pierce Motors. He's your usual grumpy billionaire, he works hard and plays hard and is not one for commitment. He is also very close to his family and his best friend is the owner of one of the competing teams.
The new PR rep for Pierce Motors is Sarai Lambert. The Lamberts are also big in the racing world, but Sarai inherited her uncles PR business which she now runs. She is a strong woman. Sarai and Malik are a great match but they constantly but heads, but in a way that they are clearly matched for each other.
Now, right up until the end I was absolutely loving the book and ready to give it 5 stars... but then the "dramatic event" that briefly tears our wonderful couple apart happened and I got annoyed. I won't give away spoilers, but in a drama that was driven by Sarai's lack of communication, I was really annoyed that literally every character sided with her and she got away scott-free, while Malik was the one doing the groveling. Honestly, they both needed to apologise - him for his reaction, though he was understandably hurt - and Sarai for keeping a massive secret from him for weeks. Other than that, I loved the story and the characters.

This book was almost perfect. I can truly say that I absolutely loved reading this book. Especially the fact that the characters are very relatable and that their storyline flows so well and smoothly.
Malik and Sarai has a chemistry that captures your heart and mind. Their chemistry keeps the story going and also raised up in me a couple of times my “let me take my earrings off,” and “I can’t believe they did that” reaction.
Either way, this book was darn near perfect. Only one thing needed is for someone to call out BS and REALLY confront old girl. Because she was all kinds of wrong.
But it’s not mine to judge…lol…
I’m looking forward to read “Ride” and the whole gang again.

This was a dissappointing book sorry to say. Its quite a long story where nothing is happening, and there really arent any plot or build up to anything. At first there are hardly any interactions between FMC and MMC, and the few they have they dont seem to like each other at all. Then all of the sudden there is an attraction...
There are several errors both with grammar, missing words, missing information and inconsistent conversations to give a smooth story.
The intimate scenes would have been hot if they had more feeling, more description and were not so mechanical and short.
I cannot with good concious recommend this book until the author look through it one more time and make some adjustments, because the book can have potential since there are cute and funny scenes, and as I said there are hot scenes, they just need to be written with more passion.
This was a nice follow up to the first book in this series. I was entertained by the story and the characters. I think it was an interesting read and the story was very well executed.
There were times when I felt frustrated with the characters but it wasn’t deep enough to stop reading.

I loved, loved, LOVED IT! She is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I fell in love love with her storytelling in the cocky hero club and I love what she did with these characters. And as an African American, I live that she writes these stories for us. I’m a fan for life.
