I'm so back and forth with how to rate this book. I feel like it's the exact setup as book 1 with the hockey player chasing the girl who won't go out with him. At least this story sticks with one trope unlike book 1.
Bleu literally falls into Cam's arms for the meetcute. And it is kinda cute. But she's not a hockey lover for reasons we find out later. Well...we sorta find out because she never divulges the entire truth to him! "No way would I tell him the entire truth. Hell, I hadn’t wanted to tell him any of it." That little tidbit came out in the LAST CHAPTER! Nope. No way. And we as readers find out about Cam's past with his lost girlfriend earlier in the story but he never tells Bleu! Umm, say what? That's just flippin' bogus. You don't start a relationship with hidden secrets of that magnitude! That pissed me right off. But I still loved THEM together. I love how the author wrote them. They had great chemistry but their secrets were always on my mind.
There were a few random sentences/scenes that didn't make sense to me and made me wonder again if these hockey stories are an MC series spinoff. "Her new husband, Maddox, was scarily sexy and extremely protective of her. Then again, I imagined watching the woman you love get shot can mess with a guy’s head. I didn’t blame him for being protective." (This is Bleu talking about her coworker, Gwen.) Ummm, what is happening and who got shot by who and where's the rest of this story??
And we can't skip the angsty mistaken OWx2 drama that happens. Those scenes have been used before, almost exact. I knew how that was going to play out with the first girl being a fan and the second woman being a relative because I've read that before. Not original in the least.
We lose track of Bleu's very best friend, Sergio like 3/4 of the way through the book with no mention of him again. That's a gaping hole that bothered me because I loved him! He was hysterical and added so much to the story!
As mentioned before the last chapter has the partial spilling of the Bleu's truth/secret. Except you don't know it's the last chapter until you get to the epilogue on the next page! 😳 Did I miss something because it felt like I missed a bunch. Not that I wasn't ready for it to be over but daaaang, it was like the author hit her word count and bam, done. That epilogue was super cute though!
Overall...I DID like the characters and their families/team. I did like the story even though it was familiar, predictable, had some gaping holes, and was super rushed at the end. I liked this story more than book 1 but didn't absolutely love it because of things mentioned above. And I reading the next one? Yes, because I need to know Kris's massive secret! He's been weird this entire story!
