Advertised as: If Hermione was the main character in Harry Potter. Now, I have not read the Harry Potters books because as a kid, it was not allowed. And now as an adult, it’s (mainly) about a boy and I would rather it be (mainly) about Hermione. So, that advertisement did its work on me and I am having so much fun with these books.
Clementine is now in her fourth year at the academy. I really appreciated how the author worked through the passage of time over the course of this series since Clementine starts her first year at the academy and is introduced to the magical world in the first book. Each book is basically set over the course of a year. So a lot has happened! These books are fairly short with a quick pace. The author manages to always cover the important, exciting points without getting boring or too in the weeds on certain issues and lessons.
Her sweet friends have warmed my heart, her black cat has provided me laughs, the slowest of slow burn romances waiting in the wings has kept me locked in (except he better have some more page time in the last book!), and seeing Clementine grow into a loving, complicated, and, hopefully, unstoppable force for good has been a worthwhile ride.
Also, Liara and Headmistress ended up being some of my favorite side characters when I truly disliked them in Book 1 for being mean to Clem. This author really gets it.
Also x2, the titles are funky but they relate to the prophesy Clem has to fulfill to stop the forces of evil. All in all, it has been a bit since a 5 book series has kept me this engaged!
