The power struggle in the Vampire Court, werewolves on the warpath, and one man crazy enough to stand against them all.
Damian Blake has never had it easy. Constantly on the move, facing a new monster every day--the life of a Destiny Enforcer threw more curveballs at him than he could count. Now for the first time in centuries, he has the semblance of a normal lifestyle, and all he wants is to keep the fragile peace in his territory and make sure his brother is safe.
But when he is called to a crime scene, Damian realizes that things are about to get ugly once more. Before long, he finds himself facing a quickly escalating war between local vampires and werewolves. As he starts the investigation, he soon discovers that things are not what they appear to be, but he thinks he can stop the brewing supernatural disaster. All he needs is a little time to smooth things over. But when both sides would rather die than work with each other, time is the one thing he does not have.
The supernatural confrontation is about to spill into the world of humans, leaving a trail of bodies in its wake. His brother's life hangs by a thread. And if that's not bad enough, someone just broke the Sanctuary Law on his territory. With time running out, Damian must track down the monster causing all this magical mayhem and stop him before it's too late.
If the monster doesn't stop him first...

N.M. Thorn currently lives in South Florida with her husband and son. Owner of a digital marketing agency by day and a writer by night, she loves spending her times creating new worlds, paranormal planes of existence and anything that could be described as supernatural.
When she is not busy working with everything digital or exploring fantasy worlds, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, painting and martial arts.
Damian Blake is a grouchy and reluctant hero. All he wants is a quiet life with his brother and a couple of friends in sleepy Blue Creek, Arizona. Only, this little town isn’t quite as sleepy as he’d hoped. With his brother’s life on the line, Damian has to find out who’s committed several gruesome murders on members of the supernatural community and what it has to do with his brother. This is yet another fast-paced, edge-of-the seat, nail biting urban fantasy thriller from N.M’s creative mind. The continuous weaving of slavic folklore into the story is intriguing and gripping to say the least. Her main characters are engaging and relatable, the sidekicks complementary and supportive, and even the antagonist will intrigue you with his motivations and justifications for his actions. The language is rich and elegant, a perfect complement the story and the world building detailed and intricate.
I love how N.M makes werewolves, vampires and other supernatural beings living in the Arizona heat seem perfectly plausible. That, to me, is a sign of excellent storytelling. Damian’s love for his brother, his dedication to duty and reluctant attraction to a close friend is endearing and heartwarming. In fact, all the characters contribute to the story with their own unique personalities and backstories, all adding to the many layers of the Shadow Enforcer world. The little nods to her previous series gives it a familiar feel while still keeping it as a separate sphere. I love getting lost in these stories and find it hard to put it down once I start. The myths and folklore adds such a rich dimension, lending an enormous well of inspiration and fascination to the reader as well as the writer. If you enjoy Urban Fantasy and love a rip-roaring tale of magic, mystery and intrigue, then this book and series is for you. You will love it, I promise.
The Shadow Deception is a fantastic continuation of NM Thorn’s second series, reuniting the reader with Damien and Cole and her eccentric world of vampires, demon gods and magic. . Though taking place in the same world as her Fire Salamander series, Deception veers even further into its own with this installment, whilst keeping intact its Slavic lore origins combined with real-world historical events. . There is not much I can say about this book without spoiling it, but if you enjoyed Book One or any of Thorn’s other stories, then you will not be disappointed at more time with these characters, or delving further into the original world-building talent its author has harnessed the more of it she explores. . Far as urban fantasy books go, this is a universe I could personally return to again and again.
Another wonderful book in a wonderful series! N.M. Thorn did not disappoint. I loved seeing Damian and Cole navigate their new roles. I love how we're taken into even more myths and legends. Just when you think you've seen it all, there turns out to be more! A wonderful second book in an amazing new series!
This is an awesome follow up to The Shadow Enforcer. Damian Blake never seems to get the quiet life he’s after , and this time, his brother’s life is on the line as well. Fantastic characters with so much depth and emotion that you’d think they were real, and a fast-paced, action packed story full of twists and turns. A brilliant read for any lover of Urban Fantasy.
Absolutely fantastic! Highly recommend everyone to read the saga of these stories. Pack with non-stop action. Looking forward to read the the next book
Wow! This second book in N.M. thorns The Shadow Enforcer Series takes all of the successes of the first book and just builds upon and enhances them!
Damian Blake is a Child of Earth; an immortal Commander of the Destiny Enforcers; the brother of Cole Adams — an ancient vampire who just so happens to be the King of Arizona’s Vampire Court; and the constant butt of Gypsy the cat’s snide jokes.
Thinking he can settle down and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet after the events of the first book, Damian discovers that there is a supernatural war brewing between vampires and werewolves, and for the sake of his brother, he has to find a way to stop it — only to find that everything he tries only makes things worse!
Thorn has a way of creating really cool characters with amazing powers that would seem to make it impossible to trick or defeat them — only to find entertaining ways of taking things to the next level and putting those same characters into so much trouble that it suddenly becomes impossible to imagine them surviving!
Yet, somehow Thorn does it in a way that will leave you on the edge of your seat!
Thorn is a master of weaving such seemingly disparate elements as various historical mysteries, supernatural beings of popular lore, the myths and stories of ancient Slavic Gods and monsters, and her own creative elements into compelling narratives that will leave you both giddy and nervous with every twist and turn. And true to the title, this story will have your brain working overtime to figure out what is true and what isn’t all of the way to the end!
If you like action, magic, mysteries, and sarcastic cats, this series is for you!
Full Disclosure — I was a Beta reader for this book!
After rereading Book 1, I drove right into Book 2 of Shadow Enforcer Series. This book picks up where the 2nd one left off with Cole taking the leadership of the Arizona and Damian reintegrating into his official enforcer role after several centuries off, ending his desire to fly under the radar. We see both brothers redefine their relationship after being apart for so long. Throw in a conspiracy to end the world by a supernatural enemy and you have an forgettable read.
One thing I truly love about NM Thorn is her availability to keep surprising the reader. In this book nothing is what it seems and even when you finish the Shadow Deception, other than Damian and Cole, you are not sure who the real enemy is.
Ms. Thorn seamlessly weaves the modern world around magic in a way that few authors are capable of doing.
Something supernatural is killing werewolves, and starting a war between the rest of the werewolf population and the vampires. Damian and his brother Cole, King of the Vampires of Arizona, are on the hunt for a dangerous, ancient being with an unknown agenda. Fascinating, and well written characters. Another exciting, and action packed adventure with magic and impressive battles. Fantastic book. I love this series.
I liked the first book in this series, but the second has too much of the romance. It's the "I can"t be with her because it would be too dangerous" trope. I like the world and the characters very much, but the romantic subplots are not what I am looking for in urban fantasy. If you enjoy romance , you will be very happy with this book.
...using the word smirk over 110 times that is once every 4 pages...it is distracting and annoying. This should be like The Shadow Smirker series. Please use a different word...sigh..
Excellent story. Mr. Thorn brought great new characters to the fantasy scene. This, combined with unique plots, allies and villans creates a unique and very interesting story.
This review is written long after finishing. I enjoyed this second book (Kindle edition) of this series. I think I know who/what is the Destiny Board/Board of Destiny (memory fails me at this late date). I will have to read Book 3 to see if I am right, that is if the author reveals who/what is the Destiny Board. ;)
