I’m now used to James Ryker and familiar with the characters that surround him. Peter Winter remains one of the goodish guys despite not being consistently good. I loved that Sam Moreno appeared in this book but was a little confused by what seemed like a character change. I should have relaxed into it, as Rob Sinclair definitely knows how to handle his characters effectively.
The action begins in the UK, and I enjoyed imagining the areas described by the narrative. That said, the book soon adopts a Continental theme with visits to Italy, Germany, France and beyond, to name a few of the stops. With the action spreading across multiple borders, it was interesting to see the differing Intelligence Agencies trying and failing to work together.
One of the things that I have come to love about this author is how flexible his characters and plots are. There seem to be no set themes for the books other than good fighting evil. Even those lines become blurred occasionally, with Ryker making some questionable decisions. Once again, the action is what I have come to expect, and the story moves quickly, leaving the reader to catch up as they go.
The jeopardy comes from several areas as the story accelerates through a whole host of challenging situations. There are plenty of surprises for the reader, but I don’t include spoilers in my reviews. Just rest assured that the tone is exactly what I’ve come to expect from this brilliant author.
I hope that you’ll purchase some or all of this author's books; they are all terrific.
