Not Alone: Origins is a collection of exciting character origin stories designed to provide exclusive insights into the people who make Not Alone tick, as well as to show how they first became embroiled in the grandest conspiracy of all time.
From Emma Ford's early days with Jack Neal at XPR, all the way to John Cole's ruthless rise to the top and Timo Fiore's early interests in space exploration, these origin stories add insight and depth to the characters we love and some of those we love to hate.
The first book I ever read by Craig A. Falconer was Not Alone. Chosen because I liked the cover. Since then I couldn't get enough of the series. The back stories are brilliant. I've come to love and/or despise the characters, but like getting to know someone new, I often wondered about the background of these people. All of these short bios were informative and fun. If you haven't read the Not Alone books, it may be helpful to read the Origins book first. My fellow group members might not agree. But I thought these bios were leading up to the first book so it's like you know about the characters beforehand. And if you haven't read the Not Alone series, what are you waiting for, lol. Craig has written a series that will be the kind to re-read again down the road. I'm certain you will like them!
Not my normal read, but a lot of the characters were deserving off some chapters to themselves and quite a lot of them were done with great detail to how they actually were. I think one of the reasons this works so well is the origins were done at the end and so it works better for the reader and the writer as well. Another origins series of short stories would also be welcome to help fill the gaps in too.
If you haven't read at least the first book in this series, these short stories willl make no sense. Even then they read more like outtakes than anything informative to the story. In some places the editing is a complete fail with wrong words swarming in like an overactive spell checker.
The nine books, individually and as a whole, in the Not Alone series by author Craig A Falconer made an indelible impression on my mind. Now, with Origins, it is like vising with old friends again what with ten short stories providing some background material to some of the prominent characters in the series, even if somewhat detested ones. It sure makes for a grand finale. Enjoy
I think the Not Alone series is great! I enjoyed all the books in the series (I read them in order). I appreciate the Not Alone:Origins book because it enables you to have a better understanding of the main characters in the book.
This book is basically a set of short stories that give additional background information on some of the activities and characters featured in the main series. If you enjoyed this series you will probably want to read this book.
Been a while since I read the early books. Some of this seems redundant, but some of it is completely new. Good stuff. I do believe it would have been better to have included it in the main books, though, rather than what appears to be an afterthought.
The first story is definitely a prequel, but the rest are mainly other views of chapters of the first book. Not to imply that it is a bad thing. It means that, in timeline order, they would need to be interwoven with chapters of the first book.
Extremely disappointing. There are 10 stories focusing on 10 different characters. Of the 10, I only really enjoyed 2 of them. I was hoping for detailed dive into each characters backstory and how they got to where they are. But most stories only glanced over their history. Only character stories that I thought was well done and truly went into how they became who they are now is for Jack and Emma.
