When men fight together, especially in a holy cause there is not only a bond but also an unspoken promise to come to the aid of their shield brother. When Birger Persson discovers that he is dying he asks his son to seek help from two old friends. One of them is Sir Thomas of Stockton. Events conspire to thwart Birger’s son from reaching Sir Thomas and it is left to Sir William, Sir Thomas’ son to effect a rescue of the Swedish knight. When Sir William and the King of Scotland are attacked by Scottish rebels then the spider’s web of plots and treachery threaten to strangle both the border knight and his unlikely ally!
I was born in 1950 in Lancashire and attended a boy’s grammar school. After qualifying as an English and Drama teacher in 1972, I worked in the North East of England for the next 35 years. During that time I did write, mainly plays, pantos and musicals for the students at the three schools in which I worked.
When I stopped teaching I set up my own consultancy firm and worked as an adviser in schools and colleges in the North East of England. The new Conservative Government ended that avenue of work and in 2010 I found that I had time on my hands; having started work at the age of 15 I found the lack of work not to my liking and used the time to research the Roman invasion of Britain and begin to create a novel. The result was The Sword of Cartimandua.
My decision to begin writing was one of the best I have ever taken.
Hosker manages to cleverly insert an English knight into the centre of the machinations and politics surrounding the new Scottish king who had not yet reached his majority, and the power plays for influence and control of the country by its leading nobles.
He is not constrained by the history books here, so he weaves an exciting tale.
His main characters are still too '21st century' for my liking.
They also rarely put a foot wrong, or if they do it's invariably so they can then save the day.
This being book 11 of the 12 book series brings with it sadness for all who love Griff’s tales. Griff writes with such passion and in-depth knowledge you always feel like you are in the story with the players. He easily brings you into his world. I have never been disappointed in any of Mr. Hosker’s stories and this book won’t disappoint any who read it. Come along and ride with the men of Stockton.
A brilliant told tale , Sir William and sons once again help to save a king and now after the death of Sir Thomas his father sir William is the new Earl , can’t wait for the next instalment
Another great book by one of my favorite authors. All though I have loved all the different series the Border Knight has become my favorite. Griff, keep the family alive a while longer. Can't wait for the next one. Thanks again.
Excellent. Could not put this book down. Received today, finished today! Action packed throughout. Thank you. Eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.
