Award-winning photographer, author, graphic designer, and Illustrator, Christi Bender brings her unique outlook on life to print with her real-life characters.
Raised by wild wolves in the Appalachian mountains, she went off to a college and found herself enrolling for training as a sign language interpreter. However, an unexpected acceptance at an art school had her move to Atlanta, Georgia. There, she graduated with a degree in multimedia.
After over 30 years of experience in design, marketing, she stepped back from her career to homeschool her son full-time.
After a chance encounter at an animal shelter, her husband adopted a deaf dog named River. This four-legged child, along with her others, has inspired her to continue with her art career.
All of her work is done with a Southern accent. Bless her heart.
She currently resides in West Georgia and can often be found at campgrounds all over the tri-state area. So, if you see her…say hi!
We adopted a pound dog. It took 3 days to realize she is stone deaf. She has responded to some hand signals ( or maybe it is the treat in my hand.) This has been a good tool for understanding Molly. She took several weeks to stop most of her anxious behavior. (Ah, she is normal.) As her personality unfolds, she surprises us. I may need a cheat sheet for signs. Many thanks for writing this.
I chose this rating because it was quick and easy read to help my family and I train our deaf dog. I really enjoyed how easy it was to understand, that she told some of her stories and she gave some easy quick signs to teach you and your dog. I would recommend this to anyone who has a deaf dog or looking at getting one or is even curious about them.
My dog had recently been diagnosed as deaf. I immediately looked for books and training blogs and videos to help me learn doggie sign. This book is a quick read with fun humor that made forget, albeit briefly, how depressing this situation is. The quick reference guide is great.
