Ugh, I hate it.

I hate all the characters, some are evil and bad... most are stupid. More pointless detailed fan service panels, again on young characters. Lots of new characters introduced, but then they die so I don't care. I also don't care when established characters die. This series also does a TON of... oh no! So and so died... oh wait just kidding. So a little extra sprinkling of I don't care when a character gets their head popped off.

Idk the plot is stupid too. I did like it at first, and now it just doesn't make sense? Our main big bad is always like.. Oh, THIS is my super secret plan! Then it unravels and the next chapter... Now THIS ONE is my super secret plan all along!! And so on...

Also there is inconsistent art decisions. For example, Nyu gets her horns blown off... then a couple chapters later she has horns again, and zero mention on if they grew back or anything.

I'm hoping this series just ends with the entire world ending, that is the silver lining here.

I'm still invested in the characters, but there were way too many gratuitous T&A panels in this set.

It's fine. Really really just fine. There's violence and boobs and hatred everywhere. That used to be in my wheelhouse. This story's a little better than the first one. Meaning I was sorta excited about some happenings.

But man do some of these scenes drag. DBZ-type drag. Remember when it took Krillin four episodes to decide which can of beans to purchase? And he got the type of beans that Android 18 does not like and she spent six episodes berating him about his bean selection ability? The Legume Saga.

Another compelling entry. While the focus on Mariko was limited, it did help to move arcs forward especially as we start making our way towards the end. There seemed a bit of a dive into the nature vs nurture debate that is prevalent in the series both manga and anime. At times I do enjoy how Okamoto draws angry expressions in this. Plus there was a moment where I was surprised I was on Bando’s side for a split second.

This review is for the entire series.

Synopsis: Lucy is a special breed of human referred to as Diclonius, born with a short pair of horns and invisible telekinetic hands that lands her as a victim of inhumane scientific experimentation by the government. However, once circumstances present her an opportunity to escape, Lucy, corrupted by the confinement and torture, unleashes a torrent of bloodshed as she escapes her captors. During her breakout, she receives a crippling head injury that leaves her with a split personality: someone with the mentality of a harmless child possessing limited speech capacity. In this state of instability, she stumbles upon two college students, Kouta and his cousin Yuka, who unknowingly take an injured fugitive into their care, unaware of her murderous tendencies. This act of kindness will change their lives, as they soon find themselves dragged into the shadowy world of government secrecy and conspiracy.

Review: A horrifically violent, gruesomely sexualized, shocking and depressing series that's further intensified by the horrific acts done to a group of young girls. The things we are forced to watch happen to them is sickening, which makes their bloody vengeance and murderous rampages almost justified, if it wasn't for the ridiculously high body count of innocent civilians and bystanders.

Everyone in this series is an extreme sadist, the type of people that would beat a puppy to death with a glass vase just to spite another person. I admit, the shock value can get tiresome and pointless in certain instances, but from the standpoint of a horror flick, it can be entertaining to see just how much you are able to endure. Reminiscent of old-school slasher movies with excessive splatter and gore. Shock value for the sake of shock value. It can get redundant, but it can also be entertaining if you're looking for simpler entertainment.

There are plenty of flaws in the series as well as very awkward and misplaced moments that drag down the overall serious tone, but it's something I feel happy having experienced. It's a great example of exploring the minds of very tragic and emotionally broken characters. These instances of incredibly sad, memorable and heart-wrenching moments are the saving grace of the series.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this entry, after the second omnibus I had thought I might not even finish this reread. There are still some cringey aspects on occasion, and things that haven't aged well, but there's some degree of promise again (and significantly less Yuka than previous volumes.) For one thing, we spend a significant portion of this volume dealing with people outside the residents of maple house. We get a some Bandou, a lot of the the assistant (I'm bad with names, okay), the director, and more people involved with this organization. Now, this is not the best scifi stuff I've experienced, but it honestly is some of the better scifi horror I've seen. Especially in manga. It really does get fascinating. We get some good action, and the art has improved significantly (Okamoto even comments on the growth in one of the post-volume pages.

I don't want to get into a lot of spoilers, but If you enjoyed the first omnibus, disliked the second, and are wondering if it gets better, it absolutely does. I'll up this one to a 4.25 of 5.

It was...okay I guess.

Not sure if this counts as a negative for the story, but the art style real lacks in some moments, the only extraordinary artwork was the one where Mariko is screaming at her father after he abandoned her.

Also, Mariko's sudden trauma which causes her to have a split-personality was kind of weird, what's the point of that happening. Not to mention that her death took wayyy too long; it sounds cruel, but it's true. The anime actually made her death more emotional by killing her and Kurama off. (Kurama's apology was also way more affecting than Mariko's half-assed declaration of love for her father.)

One big issue I have is the ecchi scenes, I was really surprised when I literally saw some chick getting...uh, how do I explain it? Stimulated; since I assume this is a seinen horror. The ending story though where Nyu gets groped by Kouta and Yuka was actually kinda funny when she reverts to her Lucy personality.

Omg this not at all how I remember this manga when I read it fan translated online. Damn, it’s so much more graphic and heartbreaking.
I can’t even, the climax is nearing and I can’t bear it.
Poor Mariko, Nana and Nyu/Lucy it’s just sad and unfortunate.
However, again I’m over the sexualization of all the female characters. It’s tiring and I got it at first with Nyu, cause it made little sense. Child was forced to grow up real fast and thus never experienced the innocence that comed with childhood. So Nyu, was a like a child learning for the first time, understanding what’s appropriate and not how to talk etc. However, it’s honestly too much what ever he’s going for with some scenes are just not that funny.
Anyhow I know what’s coming and I’m about to cry.

I’m just happy I finished this book because it was very disappointing… I started reading them because I watched the anime and the anime is gore I know and I was totally expecting that from the book but were all the naked scenes?, all the parent abuse, s3x abuse, pleasure sl@ves (as she calls herself) necessary? Most likely not, we got enough background about it in the first volume to understand what’s going on. I also wasn’t having all the unnecessary second characters? They certainly don’t give away anything to the story more than to prove yeah you’re right Lucy is a killer after all, which we knew since volume 1. I’m just gonna finish the volume 4 to say I finish the series not because I’m excited/anxious to finish it.

5/5 concept
0/5 execution
Watched the anime as a young adult and found the concepts fascinating but wanted to understand better so I finally started reading the manga.
For example: one major question that kept coming up for me was if the author knew how female bodies work. Many jarring scenes that were unrealistic and beyond fan service into just bizarre and excruciatingly awkward.

This could be such a great series if it just... was severely edited and reworked. I love the concepts and connected thoughts and I'm glad I read the series but it's genuinely poorly done after the concept framework is laid down, unfortunately.

Definitely more plot and action in this volume. It is an interesting story and I like the over all plot.
There are definitely scenes that are a little uncomfortable and in a way this could to with a content warning (though I think the last volume also, and perhaps just the series in general could do with some content warning).
I am glad despite the number of characters they are pretty easy to keep track of.
I am curious about how the series will end.

Elfen Lied Omnibus Volume 3 is a powerful continuation of Lynn Okamoto’s saga, offering a richer and more complete story than the anime adaptation. It is recommended for readers who appreciate dark, character-driven narratives and are prepared to engage with challenging themes. While the pacing and some narrative choices may not appeal to everyone, the omnibus is a must-read for fans seeking closure and a deeper understanding of the world and characters of Elfen Lied.

What the heck was this volume!!!!!! This was so despicable! There was so much inc*st, r*pe, murder, gore, etc! Please be careful when reading this series. I like being able to finish the story and am glad I only have one more omnibus to collect, but I do not recommend this series. The reason I give it four stars is because the overall plot has me hook, line, and sinker! I love the diclonius!

This volume was a bit all over the place. It was more background and plot heavy but never actually got to the point. The sexuality of this is unnecessary and weird. It feels like there is a build up but its too slow and the next vol is gonna be too quick for an ending. But I really enjoyed the parts where you see into a characters past and learn more about what makes them tick.

Definitely gets more violent in this volume. Not for the squeamish, very violent. But the story is intriguing and keeps me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoy what the author does with the character development in this series.

This series is extremely dark and not for the weak of heart. It's gruesome and sometimes downright disgusting. Though it has an amazing story line, wonderful and horrible characters and character development.

Still ew

Still some background plot that is not well developed or explained. I thought there was some character growth but then there was an orgy at the end. This manga can't decide if it's harem or sci fi.
