Divided into four parts, The Four Winds is a story of the female protagonist Elsa Wolcott, a 25-year old unmarried woman who has been deemed a spinster and left to her fate by her family. Through the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, the story progresses as Elsa struggles to find love, a sense of belonging but most importantly, food and a safe haven for her children.
