A Love So Blue had me in my feelings from beginning to end and a couple of places in between. That opening scene in the prologue was…….whew! Onyx is a hardcore activist and advocate for police brutality. After witnessing a traumatizing event that affected her personally, Onyx has a deep rooted hatred towards the police. And, rightly so. After starting her non-profit organization, she dives in headfirst trying to create change and building bridges between the police and the black community. On a night out with her girls, love is the last thing Onyx was looking for but, it found her anyway in the form of Vega Samuels. From the moment he saw Onyx, he knew he found his future wife. But, Vega is keepin’ secrets and when they’re revealed, it threatens his future with Onyx. This book is so unbelievably relatable. It touches on issues we’ve been dealing with in this country for years. The subject matter was difficult to read but, again, it’s something that needs a light shined on it. I loved how brutally honest Ms. Jewel was with Onyx and how real she kept it. She had no problem telling Onyx she was a miserable bytch but, she said it nothin' but love. A Love So Blue is another banger from Mel Dau. I enjoyed the message it represented and the focus on police brutality and PTSD was handled brilliantly. Get into this book ladies. You will not be disappointed.

How it started: 🎶Still Blue…..there ain’t a heart here to claim, it’s a shame that we’re still undercover🎶

How it ended: 🎶Forever is what I wanna give to you. So what do you say, baby I do……There’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do for you. I don’t care what the others say, now that I got you bae🎶

“Even before I knew you, my live was reserved for you” 🥺

After the brutal murder of her brother at the hands of the police, Onyx is forever changed. After drowning in grief, she chose to be a voice for the voiceless and has devoted her life to activism founding A Safe Walk Home with her best friend. Despite partnering with the local police, in reality it’s fk them from sun up to sun down. In her mind there’s no such thing as a “good cop”.

Vega first noticed Onyx while working security at a local night club. It was love at first sight and he wanted her real bad. Having been single for the last few years Onyx was not looking for love until Vega opened her heart to it and showed her what living truly looked like and the beauty it brings.

I absolutely LOVED this story! It pulled every emotion out of me and the constant twists and turns during the many plots had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was next! This is the old Mel Dau that was knocking her books out of the park and this book reaffirmed why I enjoy her as an author. Thanks to the BRAE event this gem was put on my radar and I’m so happy that it was!

Heartwarming, raw, unfiltered and A MUST READ!!!

Yaaasss Queen Mel really did her thang with "A Love So Blue"!!! This book although fiction, it felt so real. We're living through this everyday, with the killings of sooo many unarmed black men and women. As a mother of 2 young adult men, that is my fear every time they leave home😔.

Onyx was wearing the hurt from losing her brother like an extra layer of skin. The hatred she had for the police and her past hurts almost made her miss her blessing. She definitely let something positive come from greet losing her brother through her non-profit organization.

I loved Vega💕. He pursued Onyx with the intent to make her his wife and let that be known from jump.

These two journey to love definitely had some bumps in the road. Vega losing his best friend Troy was trying for them. I was pissed at Onyx for allowing her hatred to keep her from being there for Vega. He did play her with the drive through🍆 tho😜🤣, but her payback was priceless. She should not have allowed her friend Kierra to dictate how she moved in her relationship🙄. He was wrong for keeping his real profession from her, especially knowing how she felt about the police.

Her parents were amazing and her mom didn't sugar coat ish.

In the end she gained a bonus family through Vega's family and friends. Her vows, hilarious and his gift to her was another priceless moment.

This was most definitely a MUST READ!

Synchronicity

Foremost, I absolutely appreciate & adore relevant cameo appearances of recurring characters from either standalone book’s and or other series by the Author. Those Christensen’s in the twenty first century are comparable to the Kennedy’s of the 60’s without the moonshine, political scandals and salacious affairs (oops, I digressed…”cross that bridge when …“🤦🏾‍♀️🤐🫣😬🤭‼️) Nevertheless, “A Love So Blue” was an excellent read but a painful reminder there shouldn’t be a racial divide between black & blue while walking…especially in your community, your neighborhood, with your friends, in the presence of your sibling & at your residence with no provocation. 🤬😤🥺‼️Yet, the devastating realities of systemic saltine semantics under the pretense of their subjective fears (bovine fecal matter‼️) even in fictional southern suburban USA was/is a prevalent narrative for the survivors of the decedent, their families, friends, peers and co laborers of the “our lives matter” movement. I commend Ms. Mel Dau, for broaching this hyperbolic subject of police brutality 👏🏿👏🏾👏🏽👏🏼💐. Meanwhile, even in the midst of anguish, there’s a beacon of hope, another perspective. The opportunity to bridge the gap between the black & blue areas of identity, industry, ignorance, indifference & intolerance to embrace humanity. There’s a healing which transcends the superficial hurt, emotional pain, resentment, survivors remorse, & or PTSD. That is love 💕 ‼️Twenty years late. Yea, gone but never forgotten. “It’s time”, for a Happy New Year🥹🥰‼️

Don't let this separate our Love

I enjoyed getting to know Vega Samuels and Onyx Manigault.

It was unfortunate that Aziz, Onyx brother, was killed by a racist, power-happy cop, yet I wish she would've gotten some therapy. Her hatred for ALL cops was unwarranted, especially when it came to Vega. She saw firsthand that he was a good man, and later learned that he was a great cop, yet she almost let her overall hatred of all cops allow her to loose the love of her life.

I liked Vega, yet he should've been upfront with Onyx given how she felt about cops. The discussion about her brother should've been pushed so all the hurt and healing could've taken place sooner, and maybe they could've went to therapy together bc they both had trauma from that event.

I really like Kiara, Onyx best friend. She was very supportive and just an overall great friend. Her husband, Jerome, didn't play about her and their relationship was hilarious. I like their friend Tammy and how she held Onyx organization down, even in it's struggling times. Onyx truly had a lot of Love and support with her family and friends. Her mom, Jewel, gave her a filthy read and I wasn't even mad about it😏.

I loved seeing the Washington, Christianson, and Smith families make appearances, especially Tae and Trell; I will never tire of their hilarious love.

Another Mel Dau banger. Great read. Highly recommend.

Healing The Hurt in Your Heart

Imagine losing a piece of you at the hands of someone that simply doesn’t like you because of the color of your skin!!!…Imagine finding out that the person you are in love with was there watching and you all didn’t even know each other until years later!!!…
Hurt doesn’t just disappear over night!!!…
This story was a deep one and I truly understand the hurt, the anger and frustration felt by Oynx about what happened to her brother!!!…Her mother was definitely the person that needed to spk to Oynx heart because her head was set on not liking a group of ppl!!!…
Vega was just as traumatized by the same experience and it drove him in a different direction!!!…I’m glad he fought for Oynx and their love!!!…They deserved the happiness that was in store for the both of them!!!…
Losing a sibling definitely hits your heart and soul different and you will never be the same!!!…
The way this story was written would touch someone deep in their soul!!!…

Blue

I absolutely loved that Onyx founded an organization after losing her brother and the name was so appropriate.
I almost rated 4 stars but came to the realization that what I didn't like about the story was exactly what made it so real. Onyx and Vega both miscommunicated for different reasons. Withholding information and running from the truth makes it hard to build a solid relationship foundation and these two were hurting each other and themselves needlessly. They each failed to seek therapy after tragic events and that was a lot of weight to drag around. Yet, those actions mirror real life and thus was a great lesson in this read. Aside from that, it was time Onyx stopped blaming a whole group for something done by one person, another thing we tend to do.
I found this story to be relevant, believable and well told - a great story that I highly recommend.

Powerful read! Onyx had such a hatred toward police, after the traumatic incident in her life. However, meeting Vega and ultimately finding out he was the po-lice :) , turned her world upside down. She had "real" love for him, but didn't know if she could get past the fact that he was an officer. Vega, was a great guy. He withheld the information from Onyx, as he normally would with women he dated; but soon realized that was a huge mistake. He was so gentle, understanding, and patient with her; even when she was ignoring the hell out of him. This story was so relatable, and timely given our current climate. Such a great story. Bravo!

Wow🔥🔥🔥

What is there to say? This book was fire. It started out with issues we’ve been dealing with in this country for years and in 2021, still dealing with it😔. It’s heartbreaking and frustrating at the same time. Aziz was a legacy that his sister turned into a movement. Onyx didn’t realize that she allowed the movement to become her whole life until she met Vega. Vega..what can I say..he was bold, sexy, knew what he wanted (Onyx) and went after it..got what he wanted and fought to keep her.👏🏽👏🏽💃🏽💃🏽😜. This was a great read and I really enjoyed the building of Onyx and Vega’s relationship. So happy they got their HEA🥳🥳. Read it🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👏🏽👏🏽💃🏽💃🏽

Solid read

Mel Dau had me in my feelings from the beginning to the end and a couple of places in between. Loved Vega and Onyx even though I felt like Vega should have been more forthcoming I understood his reasoning. Sometimes you can’t fight against fate if it’s truly ordained from heaven above. If only we had more of these police and community alliances in real life we’d have less of us gunned down like animals but I digress. I loved that Onyxs friends and mother kept it brutally real with her and supported all aspects of her life. If you want to read a great book with some complex yet relatable dynamics mixed in with awesome chemistry then look no further.

wow

The background of this story was very deep and Mel Dau did an incredible job bringing it to life.

Onyx and Vega’s love story was very face paced and deep at the same time. She met him while he was working as a security guard at Club Lit and she was still dealing with a great lost and how she was dealing with that.

To watch there love grow through everything that tried to break them was amazing. Plus some of my favorite family made appearances in this book, so I was excited!

Another wonderful book😍

I've been reading several of this author's books and with every book I am impressed. Once again this was a wonderfully written story. I'll say definitely a must-read. Onyx and Vega are a wonderful couple. I love that he went after her and claimed her as his own. Onyx was so focused on what she was doing she almost missed out on love. Once again as always it was an absolute pleasure reading this book you're so talented 🙂.

This book was so amazing, and it’s good to read about something that happens in the real world. Onyx experienced a lot and she was very closed off but I’m happy that she was able to open up and accept someone truth even though it caused her so much pain...great job Mel!

Satisfied Reader

This book started off slow but it held my attention and it was a good read. Onyx had so much hatred in her heart that she almost missed out on her happiness. Vega was a great man and inspite the hate in Onyx’s heart,he still did what’s needed to care for her. He broke down her barrier and made her shed tears of joy

A double love story

This book had me in all types of feelings. Not only was this about the love of Onyx and Vega. It showed the love Onyx held for her brother, Aziz. Vega held some secrets back, which was understandable, I'm just glad they were able to work through them because the love between then2 of them was beautiful to read.

Loved this book

This was a great read. I didn’t think Onyx would forgive Vega after finding out he was a cop, but he didn’t give up and kept doing what a man is supposed to do whether she is mad or not. Thanks for another good book Mel Dau.
