Another great installment in the “Haven Manor” trilogy! I can honestly say that I was excited for this book to be released. I love a good haunted house story and for some reason, there is nothing better than a haunted mansion! Summer did an outstanding job with her debut novel, “Uninvited Others” as she told us the tale of Scarlett and her family as they moved into the manor and its many secrets. In “Shadow Sleepers'', the tale continues with Scarlett’s grown daughter, Cee, and her new husband, Aaron, who also happens to be an up and coming architect. Cee and Aaron are expecting a baby and Cee has been left the manor land as an inheritance from her Uncle Erik. Against her mothers wishes and many warnings, Cee and Aaron head for the old estate, hoping to make use of the old cabin as a temporary home while they see what remains of the manor that Cee once knew. When they arrive, they are surprised to find the old housekeeper, Emily, waiting for them on the steps of the very well-maintained cabin, which Emily has fully stocked for them. Ecstatic with this turn of events, they thank her and begin to get settled in as Emily takes her leave. Aaron is drawn to the property and to the old manor from the very first night. As Cee settles in bed, he finds himself wandering the property, envisioning the manor as it could be again, seeing it take on new life through his skilled eyes. He spends most of the night drawing up blueprints before falling asleep and succumbing to a ghastly nightmare. Cee wakes up in the wee hours of the morning, also from a horrid nightmare and cannot find Aaron anywhere in the small cabin. She finally finds him outside, asleep near the old pond, covered in dirt, with severe lacerations on both of his hands. Scarlett is waiting for them at the cabin when they return from the hospital later that afternoon, having taken care of Aaron’s injuries, and Cee angrily confronts her. Scarlett and Cee have a strained relationship as Cee blames her for their lives after Haven Manor, but Cee does not know the whole truth, but she is about to find out. “Shadow Sleepers” pulls you in from the first night and does not relent at any point throughout the book. The Manor is a living breathing entity and it means to rise again, at any cost. Summer Feaker puts the reader through nightmare after nightmare as she drives the story to its conclusion, but even the end of this installment is not the end of the story. Summer leaves you hanging at a crucial moment in the book and it’s expertly done. I cannot wait to see how this story ends and I am giving “Shadow Sleepers” another five stars.
I read this book far too quick! I picked it up and just couldn’t put it down, it grabbed me from the start!
Following on (straight away) from UNINVITED OTHERS, the story jumps straight into Cee and Aaron’s new life, following a huge inheritance from Cee’s uncle. Little do they know that they have just landed in the nightmare that Cee’s mum, Scarlett, has been trying to run from for 15 years.
I am ridiculously excited about the final instalment of the Haven Manor trilogy - definitely a new favourite series for me!
This is the second book in this trilogy and like the first, I struggled to put the book down every single time. I did just that and then I could feel the book calling me to carry on reading. Never mind Haven Manor calling out to you and drawing you back, you just don't want to know what happens if you don't go back, once you set on foot on its land you struggle to escape the grasp it has on you if you don't comply.
As Scarlett found out and Cee and Archie with shockingly horrors that unfold with devastating consequences.
This book has it all the supernatural and horror and all the stuff that goes bump in the night. It was an excellent read and intriguing from the first to the last page, I was totally immersed in this addictive read. I didn't want the story to end I could of easily continued on.
All I have to do now is patiently wait for the last book in the trilogy. I hope I really don't have to wait too long fingers crossed.
Oh a few words of warning I suggest to anyone who reads this I book they really have to get a "Do Not Disturb" sign you'll need it.
S. Feaker has delivered another great installment to the Haven Manor trilogy. In Book 2, Cee (Caroline) and her husband are brought back to the site of Haven Manor. From the out start, the visions, creepy feelings and nightmares begin immediately. Through many weird, strange and spooky events, everything Cee and Aaron hoped for their growing family is put into jeopardy forever. Can the couple escape the hold of Haven Manor??
S. Feaker is a master story teller. Her combination of the spooky and macabre is wonderful. She delivers amazing characters with great depth. And her story development hooks you and doesn't let you go until the end. I absolutely can't wait for the final installment to this amazing series!!
Summer Feaker spins a tale so intricate and so beautiful that it quickly snatches you close and holds on tight! Long into the night you’ll read, compulsively turning pages and becoming more invested in the story. The best part is, you won’t want to fight it’s hypnotic call. Once again, I was captivated by the plot, the perfectly realized characters and the setting to die for. The house literally comes to life once again, back to it’s former glory, and ready to devour! This is gothic horror dreams come true, YET AGAIN!!!
I seriously cannot wait for the 3rd and last installment in August (*sniff sniff*). It will be bittersweet for me, because I can’t wait to read it, but I honestly don’t want it to end. 😢😢
5 extremely enthusiastic stars to a woman who takes my breath away with her ability to weave a tale so lush and perfect that I’m still thinking about it days later. You have a gift!! ♥️♥️
The second book in The Haven Manor trilogy was just as enthralling as the first. S. Feaker is an amazing writer. From the first page I didn't want to put it down. Shadow Sleepers was the perfect follow up to the first book in this series Uninvited Others. It is a story of a haunted mansion that is so familiar and yet so unlike every other. The characters are engaging and the story pulls you right in. I cannot wait to read book 3.
The author is a wonderful storyteller. I am so ready for the conclusion to the Haven Manor trilogy. I have so many questions and hopes and fears for the future of the family, but without giving away spoilers, I will hold them in.
Loved it even more than the first one! Can't wait for the third!
The first book was awesome, this one was even better. It moved along very quickly, the characters have all grown on me. Really like the series and can't wait for the third book!
I wanted to like this, I really did. The premise is sound, the ghosts are unsettling as heck, the characters are well-fleshed. However, I just couldn't overlook how desperately badly a better editor was needed--and that's saying a lot, because I've read a bunch of self-published books and can usually just gloss over errors. The dialogue is *incredibly* stilted, and there's a lot of it. NO ONE talks this way. It was made all the more bizarre by the fact that the rest of the writing wasn't stilted, just the dialogue. There are commas where there shouldn't be, and no commas where there should (with incredible frequency). Jarring syntax and word-choice errors at least once or twice a chapter.
It truly is a shame, because the content in and of itself could have made for a phenomenal story. I read the first one, and thought the same, but decided to try reading this one anyway because sometimes these kinds of errors smooth out as a writer gets more books under their belt. Alas, I don't think I'll be reading the third.
Really enjoyed this book as it held my interest to the very end. Well developed characters and flowed making it an easy, yet exciting read. Can’t wait to start Empty Walls, the next book in this series. S Feaker is an excellent author and storyteller!
