Young In Love #1

It's Not Me, It's You

Rate this book
I fake laugh every time I think about how ironic it is to be a commitment-phobe relationship therapist who is also the daughter of two world-renowned marriage and family counselors. Seriously, it’s comical!

Want to know how I messed up my life? Getting arrested for stealing a priceless artifact for a tearful client.

Want to know what my biggest problem is? Spending my life teaching women how to break relationships when all I want to do is make a relationship—with him.

Want to know what that makes me? The Break-Up Expert who is questioning everything I thought I knew.

IT'S NOT ME, IT'S YOU is the first book in the Young In Love Series, featuring the very large, very fun Young Family. If you love romance with layered characters and laugh out loud moments, snag your copy. This novel contains sex, profanity, and sensitive subjects that some may find triggering.

Born and raised in Southeast Michigan near Ann Arbor, Elle learned the importance of reading from her mother. It was also her mother who, later on in her life, gave Elle her first romance novel: Indigo by Beverly Jenkins. From that moment on, Elle became a fan of Ms. Jenkins for life and a lover of all things romance. An old journal she wrote back in college became her first book (which she still wants to publish one day).

Elle is hard at work on her next novel.

A commitment phobe that happens to be a relationship therapist….. where they do that at?! Well Blake seems to be an expert with fixing everyone else’s problems while simultaneously avoiding her own. She can tell you flat out if you should love him/her or leave him/her but don’t you dare look her way when it comes to her own situationships.

After allowing one of her clients to talk her into some fk 💩, she walks right into (quite literally) some drama that had her questioning everything she wanted or thought she wanted for herself. I loved the way Lennox challenged Blake and the back and forth banter made for a pleasant reading experience.

If you’re looking for a cute, angst free, comical read then this is just the story for you!

What a weird, weird book. Just overall weird. The main female character was just such an annoying person but she had no thoughts of her own. Someone told her one thing and she believed it with her whole heart, the second someone tells her something else she believes that with her whole heart. She was also just incredibly angry for absolutely no reason, like she was just a bitch to people??? I just kind of hated how the author wrote these characters, so bland and useless. Also the plot was boring, it literally was about a college student was in love with a professor and she was crazy. Like that was the entire overarching storyline and problems our characters faced. So boring. Bad characters. Also!!! The sex was so weird. The main chick went without sex for a couple of weeks as a “punishment” and acted like she hadn’t had sex for years. Her only character traits were being angry and being horny. She also admitted that she couldn’t be loyal in a relationship because she got bored to easily??? She was just kind of a terrible person. Just weird vibes. I’m sorry! 1/10

This was a cute and funny story. I enjoyed Blake and Lenox. Blake didn’t think she would ever be in a romantic relationship until she met Lenox.

It’s Not Me, It’s You by Elle Wright is about relationship therapist Blake Young and university professor Lennox Cole. Blake is on a break from brown liquor and men when she meets Lennox. Their first meeting is chaotic to say the least 😂 They keep bumping into one another and each time the chemistry is undeniable. Blake and Lennox just vibe, they have open and honest communication. They are both open about their pasts especially Blake and she’s doesn’t receive any judgement from Lennox. They introduce each other to new things like smoking cigars and going to the spa. But their relationship doesn’t go without hardships, I mean Blake is the breakup expert and a commitmentphobe. Also Lennox is dealing with a stalker 👀. This is a slow burn, but when that match is lit 🔥 This is a contemporary romance, you definitely see the growth of them as a couple and as individuals. The epilogue is the sweetest 🥰 Very much Blake and Lennox energy.
P.s. Blake and Lennox come from extremely accomplished but loving families. I can’t wait for the other Young siblings stories. Book 2 It’s Not Love, It’s Business coming August 23rd

One of my favorite TOP TEN authors!
Absolutely loved this laugh out loud, heart-tugging story! The irony in this book is hilarious.

Blake is one of eight children, by parents who are so loving and supportive. Mr. and Mrs. Young symbolize love, respect, commitment and marriage as a shining example to their children.
The irony - Blake's brothers avoid relationships like the Plague! One sister, Bliss, is pregnant and in an abusive relationship until her twin sister, Blake, beats the tar out of the creep and shows him what the Young family is made of.

Just a little bit more irony: Blake's actual job is a relationship therapist. And she is known as "The Break-Up Expert", counseling women on how to kick their trifling husbands and baby daddies to the curb! lol!!!!!!
But then she meets super fine, college professor, Lennox Cole, and she just may have to rethink her line of work!!!

Funny and sweet.

When Blake breaks into Lennox’s house thinking she’s helping a client, her life changes for the better.

This was such a cute, sweet, funny read. Lennox is the type of guy you want. He knows how to be sweet and caring but also when to put his foot down. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about Blake in the beginning but she quickly grew on me. I also loved their families, reminded me of my own. They were so funny and supportive.

Nice quick read! Check it out!

This was fantastic! It has everything I look for in a romantic comedy. The banter was hilarious 😂, and I had a smile on my face the entire time I listened to the audio. However, if you have an issue with profanity or vulgar language, this may not be for you 🤷🏾.

I enjoyed this book...with 8 siblings I can see why this one was book 1. I must say that the FMC Blake was cool. I liked how she thinks on certain topics. Her first encounter as the book started made me cackle. I am glad she didn't sit in it too long. I am also glad she finally met her match. Without giving the book away, she is a head strong woman who just needed to find her head strong man.

I think that is what happened and she didn't lose or compromise herself in the end.

Never Say Never

A short and powerful story, fear, past hurts, don't give a da## attitude were Blake make up. In comes the professor bringing good trouble with him. I enjoyed seeing Blake go from a cocoon to a butterfly, with the professor there to help her soar. Looking forward to siblings stories.

Looking forward to book 2💕

This it's maybe my third read by Queen Elle Wright and, I enjoyed getting to know Blake's family and her & Lennox story. From the beginning I was lmao, that dang Dr just couldn't catch a clue. I've been in Blake shoes😔 so ain't no coming back from me falling asleep during sex, we have nothing to talk about😂😂😂.
Whew Chil that dang Dory😳👀😔. Her obsession with Professors was wow but, she was beyond obsessed with Lennox. I think she was a lil worst than the last from the movie "Fatal Attraction". It's sad that it took her almost killing him for her to get the help she needs😔.
Anaya was just sad and I'm glad she left Lennox alone after embarrassing the ish out of herself and him at that diner.
Tyler deserved that a** whooping Blake gave him and I'm glad Bliss finally left his sorry a**alone.
Lennox & Blake were the perfect match for each other. He definitely broke down all her walks have gave her what she didn't know she needed. I thoroughly enjoyed their love story and that ending was perfect💕.
Definitely A Must Read💕

It's Not Me, It's You (Young In Love Book 1) by Elle Wright is a rather funny and very engaging tale of Blake Young a relationship therapist with severe commitment issues….hahahahaha! We get fully engulfed in her professional life of life teaching women how to leaving relationships to getting arrested while assisting a client by stealing a priceless artifact. On the personal level, meeting many members of her large and growing family.
During the aforementioned, she meets “him” and shakes up everything she thinks she knows, thought she knew and what she will learn. We get to witness their journey and all it entails. Will this relationship work out? A definite great read, one well worth the experience. I am so looking forward to the next one, thank you Ms. Wright!!

It's Not Me, It’s You by Elle Wright follows the unconventional love story of Blake and Lennox. Blake, a commitment-phobic relationship therapist, and Lennox, a tenure-track college professor, are brought together under unusual circumstances. The story kicks off when Blake’s niece pleads with her to help a classmate, Dori, who claims her professor dumped her and stole a valuable family painting. Blake, acting on impulse and Dori's seemingly dire plight, breaks into the professor’s home to retrieve the painting, only to discover she’s been duped. Dori isn’t a victim but rather an obsessed liar.

This twist introduces Lennox, the professor in question, who realizes Blake is the intriguing woman he briefly encountered at a wedding. At the time, he refrained from approaching her because he was with a date. Sparks reignite when their paths cross again, and the two begin a relationship. However, Blake’s deep-seated fear of commitment and her knack for self-sabotage threaten to derail their budding romance.

Elle Wright, known for her engaging storytelling, delivers a novel that’s part romance, part family drama. While Blake and Lennox’s love story takes center stage, much of the narrative is devoted to introducing a sprawling cast of characters—primarily their siblings—clearly setting the stage for future books in the series. Unfortunately, the limited six-hour audiobook format leaves many characters and subplots underdeveloped, diluting the focus on Blake and Lennox.

The audiobook experience is another consideration. While the story has its charm, the narrator’s voice detracts from the experience, making it harder to immerse yourself fully. For this reason, readers might prefer the print or e-book version over the Audible format.

Overall, Elle Wright’s talent shines through, but the overcrowded storyline and uneven pacing hold this novel back. Despite its flaws, it’s a promising start to a series that will likely improve as the characters and their stories are explored in more depth. If you’re a fan of Wright’s work, this book might still be worth your time. For now, I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars and keeping an open mind about the series’ future installments.

As a breakup expert, Blake Young encourages women to get rid of their “dead weight”.
We learn right away that Blake is a trip. If a guy isn’t giving her what she needs, she’s out the door (or out of the bed)! Lennox Cole is the youngest associate professor in his department and has worked hard to get where he is. Unfortunately, he has a student that has taken teacher crush to a whole new
level.
When Blake and Lennox meet, actually for the second time, the circumstances
aren’t ideal. They keep bumping in to each other and their flirting changes to more. During one encounter, he is “transfixed”. Blake is also attracted to him and in true Blake fashion, she wants to see what he’s working with before she goes further. Once things get physical, they find ways to get it in whenever and wherever!

It’s not Me, it’s You, is a great start to this series. I really like the family
interactions. Duke is still up to his antics. As we find out, Blake is a firecracker and there is also hell to pay if you mess with her twin sister Bliss. I highly recommend this book. See complete review at romancincolor.com

She can’t help it

Blake was the breakup maven. She’s built her career and brand on the fact that she helps people with their break ups. She’s a straight shooter and says what she means. She’s a lot to handle since she doesn’t really value relationships based on her experiences.

Lennox is the handsome professor. He’s a little nerdy, educated, but fun and easy going. A little to nice and it’s gotten him into situations. He’s tired of meaningless sex, unfulfilling and drama filled encounters. He’s always had his eye on Blake.

This book cracked me up because Blake was a firecracker, short fuse and will pop off for any reason. She tried running, denying and distancing herself from him. Lennox balanced out her crazy and impulsive emotions. He could calm her. She gave his life more fun, it wasn’t mundane, and he was fully present and giving it his all.
“You challenge me, you push me. You make me feel safe.” They did this for each other.
Awesome read!

Career… Dictate… Love… Life… 😍 🥰
There are so many gems throughout Blake’s and Lennox’s story, that it would take too much time and hundreds of words to express them all. Additionally, there are many scenes and themes throughout this book that were memorable. I absolutely love the conversations between the funny and loving cast of secondary characters (particularly the family members). It was intriguing to experience Blake’s journey/Lennox’s undertaking and how everything fell into place for them. Elle Wright has set the bar pretty high with this new and different first book/script in the Young In Love Series. If you want to know does Blake allow her career to dictate her love life, then read, “It’s Not Me, It’s You.” This is a fabulous read and one that I highly recommend! ❤️‍🔥 ❤️‍🔥 ❤️‍🔥

“It’s Not Me, It’s You - (Young In Love) - Book 1 was a mediocre read. Unfortunately, this book was unavailable on Kindle Unlimited but rather only available on the Audible platform. Hence my delimma🤦🏾‍♀️🥴‼️Because the female narrator was Adenrele Ojo🙄🥴. Sadly, Ms. Ojo performance was distracting & aweful! Six hours was/is entirely to long to be subjected to her disingenuous depiction of the majority of the Young siblings & other characters. Why? She portray both the male & female characters in the book. Her voice & pitch was/is annoying 🤷🏾‍♀️‼️ However, I’m confused if not disappointed, Leon Nixon, inwhich he was listed as the principal narrator in “It's Not You, It's Me”, has much more experience, talent & was/is definitely capable of handling all of the male roles was under utilized. Baffled‼️Another waste 🥴🙄‼️

How do you get to be a relationship therapist with a commitment phobia? Blake is known as the breakup expert. Blake is a little all over the place and thinks she has life and people all figured out. Well until she meets Lennox and he makes her put her own foot in her mouth. The way they meet is horrible but it’s funny how they don’t run into each other more with the few mutual friends. Lennox make Blake do a double take with the motto don’t judge a book by its cover. Blake is a runner of anything other than Work and Lennox makes her see that with the way that she’s unsettled around him. He really is gentle and patient all while being and alpha man. He is everything you’re looking for in a man. I love how everyone is so supportive and successful black people looking out for one another. This is no drugs or street hustlers. Very sweet and romantic!!

Blake Young is that Girl and you do not want to mess with her, or her family. They are about that life. They go hard for the ones they love and they have such a great bond between them.

The tension between Blake and Lennox is undeniable, but unfortunately for Lennox, Blake has decided to focus on herself and nothing else.

This was a fun read, I laughed, I teared up, I really enjoyed Blake and Lennox’s story, it was great seeing other characters from other books and I cannot wait to read about the next Young sibling, this is going to be a great series and I am here for it.

To Trust, To Love

What happens when Blake Young, who’s a relationship therapist aka “The Breakup Expert” falls in love?
Lennox Cole is a mild mannered college professor who finds himself surrounded by crazy women. Did I mention he’s sexy and gorgeous? lol

Thrown together by the most unlikely of circumstance Lennox and Blake’s relationship is born.

I enjoyed every this book so much. I actually laughed out loud several times while reading. I highly recommend grabbing a copy and indulging.

I look forward to the next installment in this series. Bravo Author Elle Wright.

A story about finding love when you’re not even looking for it. Blake a breakup expert wasn’t looking for love and had placed herself on punishment from anything remotely related to a man. But a peculiar circumstance literally drops her in the path of Lennox, a professor at the local university. Will Lennox be able to soften Blake’s heart and change her attitude about love? Flow of the book was decent but sometimes the time progression had me asking questions. Romance was mid and most was just talked about.

Narration: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Flow: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Romance: ⭐️⭐️

3.5⭐️ This was a fun quick read. Love the names and the family dynamic. I think this book could benefit from a little restructuring. We are told in the synopsis she is the breakup expert but we don’t see that until the second half of the book. Therefore, we don’t get to appreciate why her falling for the MMC is a big deal. A case of telling, not showing, if you will. There are moments when the actions don’t line up with what you know thus far about the characters. Despite that I look forward to reading the next book in the series and seeing how the writing evolves.

It's Okay to try love!

Blake and Lennox are an unlikely couple...because it's unlikely that Blake, the breakup expert, would allow herself to be a part of a coupledom. And when it happens, she's pleasantly surprised that she was wrong about relationships, Lennox, and love. Such a cute read and being in Elle Wright's universe means we'll run into Dr. Love or wind up at The Icebox. Even when this book tackles real issues, it reminds us that a supportive community can get us through anything and that love can and will blossom anywhere.

It’s not just ONE part it’s the WHOLE story

While this isn’t the first Young story, it’s the one that has set the tone for the siblings to come. Blake and Lennox’s entire story did it for me. I can’t pick just one part to like. It brought out several emotions in me while reading and because it was so good I’d go through this emotional roller coaster again. It’s definitely a story people will enjoy. I’m already chewing at the bit for Dallas’ story. Job well done Elle Wright.

Really Great Book!!!!

This was a GREAT book!!!! Blake and Lennox's first-ish encounter was strange but amusing. And despite the circumstances, the sparks were definitely there. I really loved how their relationship grew so organically. The Dory thing...she was Lifetime movie crazy.😳 Sheesh. This was a great introduction to the Young family. I can't wait to read the brothers stories! Great job with Book 1.🙌🏾
