All I wanted was to be free to return to the life I once knew... but it’s too late for that now. Evil threatens my world, and I may be the only one who can save it.
Finding out I was a wolf shifter, was an unexpected birthday gift to say the least. Yet, I thought I could deny that side of me, set it aside, and go back to pretending everything was normal. Unfortunately, my mate in this shifter world isn’t the only thing I have to escape. If there’s anything I’ve learned about Asher Shaw, is that he’s never what he seems. And now, he’s not the only man fighting to keep me here.
My estranged father has returned, determined to wage war against the humans. He claims I have special powers that could aid him in his vendetta. What he doesn’t know is that the only thing I plan on using my abilities for, is to stop his wrath. The problem is... I can’t do that without Asher’s help. The even bigger problem? I don’t know if Asher is on my side or my father’s.
Will this war between shifters and humans turn into one between my mate and me? Or will our bond be the one thing that makes us stronger?
Dominate and leadership traits were continuing to miss from Asher, IMO, making it a hard read for me to truly enjoy. I had hopes as my opinion was slightly turned around at the end of book 1 that Asher was about to redeem himself, however I still found him selfish and uncaring for his pack.
Dumb mistakes. Dumb thoughts. Easily swayed. Dakota just dug a deeper hole of irritation for me. I felt there was some potential for this to turn around to a dominate FMC who is smart and selfless, but alas she fell short for me.
3.75 - Untrusted is an accurate title. Dakota has grown and things are not going well for anyone. Asher is struggling with changes and trying to protect his pack and mate. Drama, trauma and machinations ensure. Again, very short and huge cliffhanger, book 3 is scheduled for release the end of June 2021.
Ok let me start by saying if you saw my last review I was not a big fan of Dakota. Loved Asher, but wasn't fond of her attitude. I will happily saw she has truly grown up in this book and I like her now. Fair warning the first half of the book do not reflect that but with reason. Sorry that's all you're getting about that. Back to the rest of the story some really interesting evil plans from the "sperm donor dads." Goodness at the lengths these men will got to. I am happy to say I'm excited to see how Asher and Dakota continue to take on the world and try to safe it.
This is just awesome. Straight away I got lost into this addictive adventure storyline full of action, drama, trauma and so much more. There’s a war raging and not just between the humans and the shifters, there’s a growth in Dakota and Asher’s relationship and there’s betrayal and mistrust . A great follow on from book one but that ending! OMG!
Bad for the same reasons as Book #1. And also for these… (mostly from the end, hence the spoiler tag)
The “Deus Ex Machina” moment: “Who are you?” I murmured. “A ghost? An angel?” “Not quite,” she smiled, her voice soft and heavenly. “I am simply a messenger. A reminder, a vision. I’m a part of you, and I need to tell you something of dire importance.”
The “No Place Like Home” moment: “I knew it wasn’t the messenger in the woods or being with Asher or anything else that returned my power to me. All I had to do was realize the strength I held all along.”
The “I am Laura Croft” moment: Dakota all of a sudden develops an ability to track Asher over a long distance (okay, maybe that’s fine with a mate bond), evade trained security guards (maaaayyyybe if they think she’s a shapeshifter or if her getting in is part of the Evil Dudes’ plan), break into the Evil Warehouse Lair without being seen, crawl through some air ducts to find Asher in his cell, pop out of the ducts in the hallway across from him, hack the electronic keypad to his cell door lock, and break him out of prison. All this from a college Mythology major. Nope.
The Speech in Which The Evil Bad Guys Laugh Maniacally and Reveal Their Plots for World Domination: Not going to copy the whole thing because it’s like 8 kindle pages long, but just so, so bad.
The Final Battle That Wasn’t: Directly following 8 pages of Evil Bad Guy Speech there are 2 paragraphs, 8 sentences, for the final showdown between the MCs and the Evil Bad Guys, aka fathers of the MCs. Anticlimactic doesn’t even begin to cover it. Basically, they shift to wolf, attack each other, pin their fathers, force them to “submit,” and leave them there.
The Let’s Let the Bad Guys Live moments: 1) After fighting their Dear Old Dads, we get this gem: “Finally, we were able to flee the scene with both of them cowering down, facing the sting of their defeat. As we ran, we heard them yelling out to us.” Like…you’ve got your chompers on their necks…go ahead and snap them already. Why are YOU fleeing? That’ll show them.
2) Then when Fox comes crawling back to the gym saying “this is my gym! these are my and Mathis’ shifters and you have to leave! wah wah wah!” we get this beauty: “I pummeled Fox—giving him the beating I had been dying to serve up from the moment he first came into our lives. Cayden and Gunner backed me up until he was begging for us to let him go. He crawled towards the exit in submission, grumbling vows of vengeance before getting up and running for the hills.” Seriously? You KNOW a war is coming. Just kill them and be done with it. Sad excuse to set up the next book. I am not here for it.

Utterly annoying. Dakota is just annoying. So she starts to second guess her feelings towards Asher. She begins to suspect him as a traitor after he has done nothing to make her think that way. She then starts crushing on Fox and he is the traitor. Asher literally has no spine and lets Dakota walk all over him. The running theme here is, Dakota has a temper tantrum and things are done her way. She is beyond spoiled and has a horrible personality. When Asher is in her NY apartment she treats him like utter sh*t and laughs about it. He finds is inability to use technology and the TV remote hilarious. She slams doors and pots and pans and just leaves whenever. She decides to flirt with and kiss fox. She is so immature that it just ruined this for me.
Told from both MCs POV. Dakota is very selfish, stuborn and strongheaded. I dont really like her character at all. Asher should have ran for the hills after how she treated him. There wasnt even a real reason for her to not trust her mate. Asher was treated as a doormat by her. The worldbuilding was okay but it lacked character development and chemistry between them. Sex was just sex for her anyway. I wont be reading the 3rd book. Sexual content
I couldn't get into this novel at all. I read up to chapter 6 and still nothing. Dakota was so stupid in this book at hated her. Asher was....idiot as well. I also read the last two chapters as well to see if i would like it. Nope, nothing i hated even more.
I returned books 1 and 2 for now. I will not be reading book 3 at all.
I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters. I am glad that Dakota finally came to her senses about Asher and vice versa since it was their fathers using her powers against them and other shifter. Can't wait to see what will happen next.
Dakota wakes up at home in the city. She is so confused. Her life is turned upside down. She doesn't know who she can trust. Will all be lost or will she kick butt and defeat the odds?
Ok, this one has thrown me for a loop. So many things were explained and now it makes more sense. The action and twists have been amazing. It's been an emotional ride. I look forward to finding out how it ends. Keira Legend has done a great job with this story.
The storyline jumped too much, the main character was too volatil and portrait as annoying, it was strage... it felt it wasnt following a story line. Not a fan.
The first book, I loved loved. This one not so much. Didn’t like the way Dakota change from being somewhat selfish maybe even a lil mean to completely rude.
