When the virus reached the little Georgia hospital where Veronica worked she thought she was prepared. She was wrong.
A single bite changed her life forever.
She’d spent years pushing people away, but to survive as the world spiraled into an apocalypse would be impossible alone. So, when her estranged brother offered to help get her to safety she accepted.
Now she just had to make it to the pickup location. The clock was ticking. The sick are hunting. And the infection was spreading.
Can she survive long enough to reach the safety of the bunker?
The outbreak is just the beginning…
You’ll love this remarkable twist on the zombie/dystopian adventure. This novella is a prequel to the novel After the Outbreak.
Karri Kadin writes apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic, and dystopian novels for the survivalist in you. Karri spends her days plotting out how to survive the end of the world no matter how it comes.
She lives in Oklahoma, USA with more bug out bags than people, possibly too much freeze-dried food, and her family that thinks she’s crazy.
She also writes urban fantasy under the pen name Karri Roberts.
Most post apocalyptic type of books are truly scary as AF, and I'm normally not a fan. However, this particular one was too good to put down.
Why: Author begins the story with a Nurse being called to an emergency, while working her shift at the ER Dept. While there she is exposed to the deadly virus N87, in every nurses worst nightmare.
That alone had me hooked, from there the book just becomes more and more unputdownable.
Karri Kadin blows "Outbreak"(N87VIRUS) CLEAR OUT THE Park!!
(They are still looking for that damn ball ⚾)
Job beyond well done, and I, cannot wait for book 1.
Our main character is Veronica in this Prequel to the N87 Virus Series. She's an a*sehole… uncaring, egoistic, egocentric!
The books starts with her at work in the ER, being bitten by one of the 'Eaters' at around page 2!? It's early into the whole Tohuvabohu of this Novella so of course she's send home with Antibiotics and the advice to self-quarantine and pray. (O'kay......) At home she finds her husband in bed having a simple cold, so he says at least.

A straight 4 Stars rating for this rather short piece. I am always happy when a female author writes something, that I can easily rate at 4 to 5 Stars.
Main characters in this Books are.: -Veronica. The Protagonist who is bitten on Day 1. -Alejandro. Her husband, a good guy as it seems. -Timber. Neighbour's dog. -Orange Tabby Cat. Another Neighbour's cat. -Marc & Misty Valdes. Veronica's brother & his wife. -Joe Berna & his family. Neighbours. -Blondie. A young woman.
There are also a few living, unnamed people and of course lots of 'Eaters' roaming the place.
° I was mad at Veronica and her 'stance' on animals at the beginning. ° I loved Timber! ° It was a rather fresh take on one of my favourite themes.
I didn't like the abrupt ending, though that was to be expected of a 88 page short Prequel.
I also thought it quite curious, that the author's name Karri Kadin sounded like the turkish word Karı & the turkish word Kadın, which means 𝐖𝐢𝐟𝐞 and 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 respectively. 🤣

A will written fantasy thriller adventure novel by Karri Kadin with lots of interesting will developed characters. Zombies are going wild in the main character's neighborhood. Her brother arranges for her rescue but something goes with wrong and the fun begins. I would recommend this novel to readers of fantasy. Enjoy the adventure of novels 🔰😈 2022😠
Outbreak by Karri Kadin is a story about the beginning of a viral apocalypse. Veronica is an ER nurse when belligerent type patients begin arriving at the hospital. Veronica is bitten on the hand by a patient and expects to die so she leaves to go home. When she arrived, she found her husband on his deathbed with signs of the virus racing through his body. On the television, she learns of an evacuation site and gathers supplies for the trip. Zombies are attacking the neighbors and Veronica rescues the dog from next door. We never do learn much about him except he's large and is very protective of Veronica. En route, she finds humans to be more dangerous than the dead zombies. The journey is a perilous one. Will she and the dog make it?
Remarkably, she is not showing any signs of the infection, her hand continues to heal and she is not suffering any effects of the virus. Is she immune?
The story is short and could have been more descriptive in the telling of the tale. There is a cliffhanger at the end and the story ends too quickly.
Outbreak (N87 Virus) is an interesting and well constructed novella, telling the story of Veronica and Timber, as they navigate the world during the first week of the outbreak. Veronica is a well rounded character, especially considering the novella is under 100 pages. As is often the case in apocalyptic settings, the survivors are as much a threat, if not more so, than the ~10% of those who become zombie like creatures, but with an alarming capacity to reason. 4/5 stars, recommended for fans of outbreak thrillers and survival thrillers in general!
The focus in this story is on the main character, Veronica. Following her experiences at work in the hospital ER. She’s bitten, treated and arrives home to find her husband sick with the virus. From there it’s a race to survive for both her and the dog she liberated. A lot of what happens to her is highly emotional but the sadness is only part of it. She survives. It wasn’t always easy or obvious to follow Veronica’s fluctuating emotions but perhaps that’s to be expected from an apocalypse. In all a satisfying read.
Having read after the outbreak, I was excited to have another peek into Allison’s world! Karri has written an engaging and exciting book that shows the world during the outbreak and the terror and difficult choices that people have to make. I was gripped right from the peach yoghurt at the start and couldn’t put it down. So excited to have more from this author!
This virus turns people into flesh eating monsters of super human strength. Since that is completely impossible this book should be labeled science fantasy. I hated it. Have to confess I only managed to get through day one. The book takes place in seven days. I’m prejudiced. I hate zombies and vampires.
I loved this novella it's a prequel to After The Outbreak which I haven't read yet. We follow Veronica who starts her journey at the hospital where she works and unfortunately her day goes downhill pretty quick. The pages just flip over and the story takes a life of its own and I'm engrossed. It's well worth reading, honest.
Quick, fun story. Would be five stars, but there are a lot of editing errors, especially toward the last forty percent of the story. I kinda started skimming paragraphs to get the gist of the content because the grammar errors started to disrupt the flow of the story for me. But I'm hooked enough to read on!
I devoured this book. It is an amazing read, especially when on a road trip through Georgia. I definitely felt the struggles along with the characters. I asked myself what I would do in their shoes, and I'd probably do the same things. I highly recommend giving this a read.
A very good short story! A great end of the world virus adventure! A good strong main character with a few twists & turns that made it exciting! I did enjoy this & will look forward to reading more by this writer!
Enjoyed the read of the book so far different to others, interesting characters. Up to date with electric cars mentioned not sure about a phone charger charging a car but that's fiction.
I figured that the heroine would survive throughout this story. But what crazy adventures she had to live through. She`s alone; her husband dies from the virus. She was focused to get to a safe space. It ends in hope.
More like 3.5. Quick, fun read. I love end of the world books so this was right up my alley. Not a huge fan of the main character or the way women are portrayed in this book. But still a short, fun read.
Dog was the best part of the story. End of the world as we know it by a virus leaving the dead and the rabid eaters of flesh behind. Not a very sympathetic main character and an obvious ending. Just an introduction really to a story I've read done better.
I really enjoyed reading this novella! I liked the characters, especially the canine companion. It was a smooth and interesting read with heart racing twists.
