A Violet Wind: A Witchy Romance Novel

Rate this book
Ever wish Sex and the City had more witchcraft? Great, this book is for you. It's quick and steamy fun. Like a pilot episode!Violet never wanted to fall in love. Her coven was all she needed. Until she met Jackson. Now she’s confused by her undeniable attraction to him and afraid to tear down the walls she’s spent her adult life so carefully building. Better to avoid the pain relationships and romance can cause altogether, right? But no amount of magic can dampen their spark. Trust doesn’t come easy to Violet, though. And it doesn’t help that Jackson has a secret behind those bright grey eyes.***If you like paranormal romance, urban fantasy, witches, and shifters, you'll love A Violet Wind. It's a quick and steamy read you won't want to put down.

Okkkkaayyyy. I'm not sure what I just read so let me process through my thoughts.

First, there is a very minimal synopsis so I had no idea what I was getting into when Amazon recommended this book through Kindle Unlimited. But after reading it, I got it. There's actually not much to this story in general. That seems harsh to say, and I don't mean it to sound that way. But, this book is literally just about Violet meeting Jackson and falling (quite quickly) in love. There was literally no climax (okay, maybe there was one or two, pun intended).

It is an incredibly short read (~120 pages) and potentially due to such, everything felt under-developed. Which, by the way, at what point is something considered a novella? The supernatural component is there, but nothing grand or exciting occurs with it. There's a romance, yes, but when it's insta-love, I feel like there needs to be something more tying the story together. And there wasn't. At some point, I even laughed at how often "bright grey eyes," "round sage eyes," and "waxed poetic" were written. Trust me when I say that you will never forget the color of eyes one of the characters has.

Okay, now I just feel like a jerk because of how much I just didn't like this. I'm sorry. It's me, not you? The cover is quite beautiful, though, isn't it?

I'm not one to finish a book in one sitting, but within hours of A Violet Wind arriving in the mail, I let out a regretful sigh that it was over. I swear, I just planned to read a few pages, and bam! finished.

And so good! I think sexy witches and werewolves might be my thing now? I couldn't put it down (cliché, but true). I really hope to get to read more books starring Violet and her *maybe* love triangle.

And, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the incredible meal descriptions in this book. I want to close my eyes and wake up in Greenpoint for the food alone.

A fun underdeveloped short read.

I enjoyed A Violet Wind, but it feels like a first draft. First things first, I found a few grammar issues, but I’m putting that aside for the sake of the review. A major issue with this novel is that there is no plot. We are introduced to the characters and given the basics, but that’s it. The most significant issue is that it is so underdeveloped and rushed. Nothing happened, and it all happened too quickly. We didn’t even get to know the characters that well. I wish there were more depth because this novel had the potential to be great.

first of all, the cover is gorgeous.
but I have to say the story didn't really convince me. The whole book also all felt very superficial.
Still, it was easy and enjoyable to read through and I liked the coven and their rituals.

(Spoiler:)
I was rooting for sage and violet though

I think the synopsis deliberately doesn’t give much away and certainly entices you in. I’d say this falls into a paranormal romance category and I loved the intricately detailed fantasy references in an urban modern day world setting. I don’t want to give anything away but it does have witches and werewolves 😍 so it’s a great fantasy teaser with romance and it’s steamy!!
.
This book definitely surprised me, in a good way and I had no idea what to expect. It’s a wonderfully written debut and part of a series. It’s a quick easy read and completed it in one sitting 🤩
.
Definitely for fans of romance and with a bit of a paranormal twist.

This book is what would happen if you fed romance & witchcraft books to an AI program & then forced it to write one.

This book surprised me, but in a good way. It is a very cute, fun read. Has some 🌶🌶 as well. I do hope there is a sequel just for I love it, just almost seemed like more was to come.

DNF. I put it away after the first 12 pages. It’s written like a Wattpad story after the Author was on Witchtok for half an hour.

Help, I have fallen into the same trap AGAIN. In school i was known as "the girl who buys books with nice covers". After 10 years I did learn....yes that's right, NOTHING.

I saw this book online some years ago and I loved the cover. As I purchased some secondhand books a couple weeks ago I thought "what could go wrong with this novella" I DIDN'T EVEN LOOK UP A SINGLE THING OF THIS BOOK EXCEPT I REMEMBERED THE BEAUTIFUL COVER. This happens like never as I normally research every single book I want to read beforehand carefully.

This book reads like my biggest witchtok, wattpad, twilight, weirdly oversexualized but otherwise underdeveloped in EVERY other aspect, nightmare. There was no real plot, I don't even know what the point of the story was other than a romance that has less sparkle than my open coca-cola can from yesterday at room temperature.

I don't like romance novels in general but I specifically really hate "love stories" of all kind in which people meet one or two times and claim to eternally love the other one like....you don't know each other???!!!

And if have I have to read about "mossy eyes" or "raven hair" one more time I will go insane. At least the pain was quickly over as this book has only around 150 pages.

...

So yeah I hope this time I have finally learned from my mistakes and won't buy books because of nice covers anymore.

The more I think about it, the less I like it.

The book felt very rushed, which makes sense, since it is very short. However in the little time I actually read it, there wasn't much plot. It basically is just about violet falling in love with some guy and a little side story about her feelings for sage, a good friend of hers, which is barely explored at all. Paired with that are a lot of sex scenes, which don't really develop characters that much.

I got to 30% of the way through before I just couldn't keep forcing myself to read this. The story has no decerning plot, it somehow feels boringly slow and yet rushed all at the same time. This is a case of being harpooned by a beautiful cover and a blurb that sounded decent. It's a real shame the story is neither of these things, and story is a strong word, it's more like a series of events.

i can't even say i'm really disappointed since the overall rating is at a 2.8 (which probably makes this the lowest rated book i've ever read), but yeah, i can confirm, it's really really bad.

the writing sucks, the characters are flat, the (basically nonexistent) plot is boring... there's nothing more to say.

Tbh i bought this because i thought the cover was really pretty but for the fact that it is under 200 pages long, it made me cringe waaay too much... it felt like reading a SJM sex scene that was 200 pages

A fun modern take on witchcraft. I absolutely wanted to join this New York Coven and have a werewolf boyfriend. My biggest issue was it wasn't long enough! I want this to be made into my new favourite TV show.

I hate how the reviews on this book are so low. If you don’t like witches, maybe don’t read it. I love witches in the twenty first century and romance that isn’t only heterosexual. I think reviews on this book are lower because of the quick read and the judgements. I really liked the sex in the book, the characters, the fantasy. I would give it a chance if you like witchy things.

It is a quick, sexy read and is one of two!

I loved this, I wasn’t sure I liked urban fantasy but this is such a good easy read. Loved it (I tend to read like JLA, Kerri M (stalking Jack the Ripper lady) , SJM, etc.

Okay so I love what was written, but it feels very unfinished. Like their easily could have been another hundred pages. As well as this, I almost stopped reading immediately after starting the book because the beginning was about cheese. I usually go for books that draw me in, but i’m glad I stuck with this one. Despite the very quick timeline, I love the way the relationship between Violet and Jackson progressed. I also loved the small love triangle with Sage, although it felt very rushed. Honestly, my main critique is that it could be so much longer and be so much more detailed. I loved these characters and the plot, but I just wish there were more of it.

I awarded this book 3 stars for the following reasons:

1. Too short and felt almost rushed
2. Pretty cover art
3. Unoriginal
4. Bonus point for one of the characters sharing a name with my cat (Sage).

The story centers a witch who is part of a 5-piece coven, who falls in love with the boy from her local coffee shop (not heard that one before). The story concept had *so much* promise, as I love a witchy read. However, so many elements let this book down.

I feel like some of the descriptions of the love interest were just too much, a little on the cliche side. Put it this way, you will never forget the eye or hair colour of any one of the characters!

Secondly, our main character falls in love with the coffee shop dude - so quickly - I'm talking a matter of pages. There was no storyline development from this part, and it just felt super rushed and awkward, almost like the writer was trying to profit from something which seemed trendy (we all know 2020-2021 was the year of 'WitchTok' and people embracing their more spiritual side).

Not only this, but some of the other characters are either stereotypical or completely undeveloped. Her friends seem like props, and they had no depth whatsoever.

There are some 🌶 scenes, but nothing which is jaw-dropping, again they just felt rushed.

All in all, this book is okay for a quick pass-the-time read, but if you want something that's intellectual, meaningful or even hypnotising then please find another book!

I know the dates I read it are kinda crazy, but the beginning was slow and hard to get through. It wasn't bad, and as a witch I appreciated all the calls to IRL witchcraft and magic --- though I will say, it gave off some witchtok vibes. As in, a bunch of generic metaphysical information on crystals and herbs and smudging and while it was cool at first it got a bit on the nose for me.

And I did see the love triangle coming from the very first interactions Violet had with Sage and Jackson. And I didn't like it. It would have been better if she was just overcoming her commitment issues and trying to figure out what falling for a werewolf meant. Throwing a third person in there for drama's sake was a but much. Especially when you already have Athena trying to lay some kind of wolfy claim on Jackson.

Idk. It was fine. But the whole thing felt rushed and messy. 3 stars for the unwanted and unnecessary love triangle.

-Majorly under-developed magic system. It felt like it was just a romance where every once in a while they'd perform a ritual and drink tea? The rituals they did perform were not explained.

-The romance is problematic in that this girl falls in love with this man and mates with him for life after only what I could assume was two weeks? It was also painfully clear that her feelings were divided.

-This books just sort of ends. It's not even a cliffhanger. Clearly designed to create additional books in a series when it could have just...continued to create a complete story. It's only 154 pages! Just keep writing!

The cover is the best part of the book

I bought the book because the plot seemed interesting to me and consisted of everything I liked (magic, romance, mystery, etc.) but was disappointed quickly. Where should I start.
There is no real storyline. It's neither catching nor new. The style of writing is amateurish. So many clichéd phrases and characters, I felt like I already heard or read all of it somewhere else before and the author simply collected and rewrote it. The best part: it was short and therefore I didn't waste much time.

I think the book was a bit underdeveloped. While Violet and Jackson’s relationship was cute I feel like it was a bit too fast paced and missing in details. I’m also a bit confused with Violet and Sages relationship. If violet wanted to pursue Jackson, then why did she embrace the kiss her and sage shared? It did feel like just a draft, and not an actual in depth book. I think it could’ve been better.

This book was really enjoyable and super different from anything that I had ever read before. I loved seeing the main character grow and find love as the story evolved. Although it felt a little bit underdeveloped and more like a first draft. Also, this book was very spicy, just a warning LOL. I am very excited to read the next book.

Read in one sitting it was a sweet little book very basic and moved quite quickly but it was nice. I did like the parts where the coven was together and would love a story just on the coven itself and getting to know them better.
