For Dak Harper, tracking down lost relics for an eccentric young millionaire sounded like an easy gig, especially after years dodging bullets for the Delta Force. A way to bank some cash, travel to exciting destinations on his boss’ dime, and keep under the radar of some very bad men trying to kill him.
But Dak has traded one deadly set of problems for another. He might be making bank in his new career, but each country he visits is chock full of entirely new groups of heavily armed men aiming to stop his work and put him in a body bag. Dak might have traded his combat fatigues for jeans and trainers, but he’s still getting shot at for money.
Now in India to save a stolen idol and rescue the Mumbai museum curator protecting it, he’s got to duck Russian mobsters, sidestep an Indian casino boss who wants more than just his time, and distract a local police force who seems to be as incompetent as they are clueless.
If Dak has to keep this up, there’s a good chance this new job is gonna get him killed faster than his old one.
Ernest Dempsey is a huge fan of action/adventure thrillers and science fiction.
He has been creating stories since he was in high school but never published a book until 2010, long after the days of high school were gone.
His action & adventure books come from a lineage similar to Clive Cussler, Dan Brown, Steve Berry, and James Rollins. While his science fiction novels are full of influence from Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, The Matrix movie, and Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott.
He is quickly becoming one of the hottest fiction authors in the book world.
Ernest Dempsey is one of my favorite authors. He always tells a great story, full of action and unexpected plot twists. This was no different, a great read from beginning to end, fast-paced and exciting, and the story builds to a really interesting ending.
I really enjoyed Book 2 in this series. The character of Dak now seems more to blend in with the style of the other characters featured in Mr. Dempsey’s other series. Dak takes on a task and, using his myriad skills acquired in Delta Force and after, he sets forth to solve it. This time he is hired to “assist” police in Mumbai when a priceless gold relic is taken from a fully secured museum. While this would normally be a routine investigation for him, this time there is a kidnapping making time of the essence to rescue her. A very entertaining action-adventure without the considerable violence in the previous Book. Clue by clue, suspect by suspect, Dak uncovers the how, why, when, and who of the crime. As before, once the crime occurs and is revealed to law enforcement, Dak is on the case with the adventure taking off non-stop. As with Book 1, the action is extremely fast paced , and I found it exciting reading. You are never disappointed when you read this very talented author’s stories.
Dak Harper is a good man who does”bad” things to bad people. He finds himself in Mumbai, India trying to save a human hostage and a valuable religious relic. Simple plot of a good guy equipped with exceptional skills due to his military training fighting the organized crime figures of the world. I liked the book immediately due to the author’s ability to create interest. The details make this book a page turner, no matter whether it is in describing a hotel room or a high speed chase on a motorcycle. His character development is just as detailed as his action scenes. Because he is dealing entirely with the real black market world, his criminal characters are insidious and evil. The hierarchy in crime is fascinating to learn. A surprise ending did fool me but there were few clues to catch it. That might be my one criticism. Not even a tiny hint that I recall. But it all worked and kept me entertained. I will read another episode for Dak Harper, a former member of Delta Force.
Ernest Dempsey's second Dak Harper series novel, Two Nights in Mumbai, opens with Dak helping save a friend from a deadly attack by loan sharks in Phnom Penh, while he himself is on the run from former brothers-in-arms, who'll collect a bounty on him - alive or dead! He's sent to Mumbai, to retrieve an iconic statuette, stolen from a local museum, plus rescue a kidnapped female museum curator, taken captive. Can both be saved? Dak has to trust those who keep to the shadows avoiding official scrutiny of their nefarious deeds, including a ruthless Russian gangster, a go-between casino owner who hooks up sellers and buyers of black market items and the IT genius who tracks places and people on the Dark Web.
With more twists and turns than a sidewinder snake in a cement-mixer, you're sure to enjoy this riveting suspense-thriller, Two Nights in Mumbai, by the outstanding Master of Mystery and Suspense, Ernest Dempsey. Get it today!
The story starts with Dak helping save a friend's life from a deadly attack by loan sharks in Cambodia. Dak then is off to Mumbai to recover an iconic statuette that was stolen from the museum were the curator was also kidnapped. The story is full of energy as Dak is trying to avoid a bounty on placed on him by his former commander while trying to rescue the curator and recover the statuette.
There are many twists and turns as Dak has to keep one step ahead of the bad guys. The story has lots of action and is a thrill ride you will enjoy. You will find it hard to put the book down, I know I really enjoyed it, I think you will also!!
Dak Harper is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters in not only Ernest Dempsey’s stories, but in just about all thrillers. Dak is a damaged individual who does his level best to do the right thing even if it isn’t what most would consider the right thing. Two Nights in Mumbai finds Dak trying to rescue a kidnap victim as well as recover a relic. Oh boy, the twists and turns in this story will keep you off balance all the way to the end. Mr. Dempsey has once again hit it out of the park with this story. I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.
The way Mr. Dempsey keeps you interested in his books is the ingenious way he weaves the story through a maze of improbable plot contortions. I love it! Just when I think the story should bend this way or that - a whole new scenario pops up. Dak has his hands full with this one but the ending really caught me off guard. I actually laughed out loud. No spoiler alert here! You are going to love this!!!!
I gave this book a five star as I really enjoyed reading it and following on from the first book. There is plenty of action, twists, humour and new friendships built. Dak has been assigned a job by his young employer, to retrieve an artefact that has been stolen, along with the curator, but things are not what they seem and Daks feels his gut is trying to tell him something.
From his time with Delta Force, Dak is still being pursued by Tucker in a short mention in this booK. The rest of the story deals with a heist and kidnapping from a museum. Dak gets heavily involved, especially when he knows a kidnapping has happened - but things are not as it seems and Dak gets into more and more trouble without realizing what the source of his problems are - another wonderful read from Ernest Dempsey.
Another well written Dak Harper book that would definitely make a good movie.
This time Dak is in Mumbai, India searching for a stolen artifact from a museum and the museum curator, which to Dak is more a rescue mission than an artifact retrieval, with a twist.
This book is definitely action packed and is recommended for others that have read The Courier
Dak goes to Mumbai to recover a solid gold ancient statue, that was stolen from the museum. Does he have problems trying to find the statue. Of course he does. A Russian monster's son whom he must eliminate if he is to get much needed info. Also, A few other stumbling blocks along the way. Two Nights In Mumbai, by Ernest Dempsey gives a person all the excitement he could want.
Dak is a very special person. He is more concerned about others before himself. He's a man with integrity who's not afraid to use his combat skills when necessary. This is a fast paced story involving theft, kidnapping and murder. To quote Dak, "I didn't see that coming." Great job. Thank you. I look forward to more of Dak 's adventures.
Two Nights in Mumbai : A Dak Harper Thriller (The Relic Runner Book 2) by Ernest Dempsey is another wild ride for readers. It is mind boggling how Dak can save the oppressed and vanquish the bad guys. It is fascinating learning so much about those bad guys and the world they inhabit.
Dak hears about a robbery and kidnapping from a museum in Mumbai India. Deciding he wants o rescue the museum director, he traces down the thief but is surprised when Dak finds him dead. Now he is on the trail of the man who hired the thief, who still has the kidnapped so man. Fearing the woman will be sold into the sex trade market Dak does all he can to rescue her. ENJOY!
Have just completed books 1 and 2 in Ernest Dempsey’s Relic Runner series. All I can say is Mr Dempsey has done it again ! Thoroughly enjoyed both books, liked the main character, Dak Harper, and finished with wanting more tales about him.
This was a lot better than book 1. The writing is smoother and the pace was perfect. The action builds up to a satisfying ending. I really liked this book a lot.
Dempsey delivers again in the Dark Harper series. Non stop action from the onset. In the end you know who will prevail but there is a good twist of the knife you don't see coming.
I'm enjoying the Dak Harper books, but I find myself skipping sections with more narrative detail than necessary. This had quite a twist at the end that I didn't see coming.
I always enjoy an Ernest Dempsey book. He just seems to get better and better as time goes on lots of excitement in this trip to Mumbai.I like the Dak Books almost as much As the Sean Wyatt books
The author has written a very intriguing and suspenseful story with many twist and turns of a series of crimes that will keep you entertained and guessing. Very enjoyable reading.
I did not see it coming and neither did Dak. I learned more about the underworld of India, but would like to learn whether a bank disguised as a hotel for crooks really exists anywhere in the world. Now I have to go back to read the first Dak Harper book.
Ernest Dempsey is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. He has created a great character in Dak Harper. As soon as I finish this review I’m buying book three in the series.
