Brett Ryerson knows that Julie Merritt, his first love, is planning to marry a real creep. To convince Julie her fiancé, Warren, is the wrong man, Brett “borrows” her for several days. He plans to introduce her to a few key players from Warren’s past—and prove to her she’s making a huge mistake. Julie, on the other hand, has her own reasons for going along with Brett’s wild plan. Truthfully, she never completely forgot her first love, and the more time they spend together, the closer she is drawn to him. When danger threatens, Brett realizes he doesn’t want to let her go. A page turner from beginning to end! Julie, about to marry a mobster, is approached by her old flame, Brett. Hoping to show Julie the real man she is marrying, Brett "borrows" Julie. But a little time together sparks feelings and desires both hero and heroine thought were dead.

Borrowing the Bride is a fun, romantic story full of humor and heart-warming moments. You've definitely got a winner here!

What a great, fast-paced read! I liked the creativity that the hero displayed in "borrowing" the bride. The heroine was sweet and kind and believable. As a Jersey girl, it was fun reading about local locations and being able to locate where the action was. The characters were very distinct and Denholtz did a good job tying up all the plot points.

We've all heard the term something borrowed, something blue, etc. Usually it's the bride that does the borrowed, blue, old and new. In this case, however, it's the bride that's being borrowed! Not just by anyone, however. The “Borrower” happens to be her ex boyfriend, Brett. He sweeps into her life years after their relationship is over, warning her she needs to know some critical information about the man she's engaged to marry.

Okay, so it's a little strange, odd even, for Brett to be showing up like this, wanting to whisk her away to meet some people. But Julie will go with it- for now. Does this mean she has some doubts of her own? Or is it something more? Oh, such suspense! And, is there some leftover chemistry between the two? Major conflict already.

With each person Brett takes Julie to see, he anxiously awaits her thoughts. It's not as if he's trying to ruin her engagement, or at least, not without honest reasons. What does he know, and what do these people know about Warren that's so important for Julie to know?

With plenty of intrigue and great pacing, Borrowing the Bride takes the reader on a whirlwind ride. The characters that each play a role in the story are quirky and realistic. Julie and Brett make a dynamic pair, and the fact that they have such a history keeps it entertaining. The question stays with me in each chapter. What's going to happen? What secrets are going to be revealed? What choices will Julie make after hearing these stories? There are plenty of obstacles to get through before Brett and Julie's happily ever after.

Some of the conflict and untold secrets are a bit weak, but not enough to make for a bad ending. Overall it's enjoyable anda good book. If you like reading about a hero and heroine that have shared a past and have a second chance, then add Borrowing the Bride to your list of books to read.

My review originally on romancing-the-book.com is shown below

This was chick lit all the way with lots of romance, action, some laughter, anger and suspense throughout. Brett and Julie had dated many years ago and Brett decided to be her knight in shining armor and rescue her from a bad marriage before she actually got married to sleazy politician Warren. Unfortunately Brett didn't realize that Julie and Warren were no longer engaged until after he and Julie were together for a few days when he "borrowed the bride". During this time Brett tried to show Julie who Warren really was and what he was really like. The situations they became involved in were often times downright scary when little by little Warren's bad guy persona was revealed. As they involved themselves in their adventures, Brett and Julie were slowly drawing closer together and their first love was being rekindled without either one realizing it. Brett actually had it pointed out to him by his dad, he was that clueless of his feelings. The book had
a happy ending that was embraced by all but it took a very long time and some anxious moments getting there. I have not read other books by Denholtz before but will definitely add some of her others to my list for future reading.

Favorite Quote: "But what worried her the most was that, in her innocence, she had put Brett in some kind of danger when she'd gone along with his crazy scheme. If Warren found out she was staying with Brett, that he was trying to reveal Warren's true nature to her, would Warren get angry? He might jump to the conclusion that she'd been involved with Brett before she'd broken her engagement. Warren had accepted their break-up placidly, with only a small protest. But if he thought Brett was the cause...Warren's macho self-image would be shattered. What if he tried to get revenge?"

Brett wants to "borrow" Julie before she walks down the aisle with another man. He's still in love with Julie, and wants to keep her from making a terrible mistake. Julie agrees to his plan for her own reasons. This was a lovely romance featuring an admirable hero and heroine.

A fun, fast romance that has everything. Realistic characters. A richly described New Jersey setting. A creative romantic relationship between two people who need to reignite their lost passion with a strong interwoven suspense plot.
