This was probably one of the worst written attempts for a space opera I have ever (tried to) read. Except the ridiculously stereotyped characters it was like walking blindfolded through a scenery, just getting a glimpse here and there. There was absolutely NO description of surroundings except "I am tied to a chair. In a spaceship." (even the spaceship part had to be assumed).
Then there was this Redhead Woman. And then she was gone. Puff.
Then that alien who had to talk to him real quick, no time to waste! Except that they spend several days alone on this spaceship, not talking after a couple of sentences exchanged. The MC did not eat, pee or shit for that matter during this time either, we was just tied to the chair.
This was BAD.

Fairly trim plot; writing needs editing

Normally a book with this many amateur writing errors would put me off from finishing it, but the pacing of the plot is crisp and brisk and compelled me to finish. The story is largely unoriginal with a few plot holes (mostly due to the fast pace). The secondary characters are roughly sketched in and also somewhat stereotypical.

There are lots of poorly written sentences that would bleed an English teacher’s red pen dry, but if the reader ignores these syntax errors and typos, and skims along, the story flows rather well.

I only read the first book, and it serves as an escapist action sci-fi adventure. There is lots of violence, some profanity, aliens, and an AI. Revenge is a common thread throughout.

This is the best fiction I have read in a long while.

Mr. Mondesir is a master story-teller. The hero’s life-story is developed gradually giving insight into his behavior – from early accepting responsibility for young siblings to fighting a powerful enemy who having lost his motivation in life is set on destroying everything and everyone. Then there is the story of an alien amazon as the most deadly warrior. The villains are truly repugnant.
The writer artfully shows the transformation of characters from egotistical to altruistic when given trust and love. There is a love story of the type “will they, won’t they”. The description of fights is detailed but kept short.
The story ark kept my attention. The writer has a unique writing style mixing witticisms with wisdom words. I actually wrote down a few sentences to share with friends as eloquent examples of the English sense of humor.
Then there is the length of the book series. Nowadays writers believe they can publish book series of many books, but I personally lose interest after four or five installments, because they become repetitive and boring. Mr. Mondesir kept my attention and finished just on time – after the sixth book, and never lost me on the way.

Pros: Visual, intelligent, witty writing style.
Cons: The science in the scify.

Strongly recommended to people who enjoy human characters among the stars, with a pinch of wit and wisdom.

The Space Outlaw Box Set (Books 1-5) is a thrilling and immersive journey through the cosmos that blends action, adventure, and complex character dynamics. The set follows a ragtag group of rebels and outlaws as they navigate the galaxy, constantly on the run from authorities and rival factions. The world-building in this series is exceptional, with diverse planets, space stations, and species that create a rich and expansive universe. The author’s ability to craft detailed and believable environments adds depth to the story, making the universe feel alive and unpredictable. Each book in the set builds upon the last, creating a sense of continuity and momentum that keeps readers hooked.

The characters, especially the protagonist, are well-developed and multi-dimensional, offering a perfect balance of strength and vulnerability. While some may come across as archetypes at first, the author skillfully reveals hidden layers and motivations, making them feel authentic and relatable. The action scenes are fast-paced and intense, filled with high-stakes battles and daring escapes that keep the reader on the edge of their seat. The themes of loyalty, freedom, and survival are explored throughout the series, giving the action a sense of purpose beyond just physical confrontations. While the plot can sometimes feel predictable, the emotional depth and engaging character arcs more than make up for it. Overall, Space Outlaw Box Set is a must-read for fans of space operas, delivering a high-energy, character-driven experience set in a thrillingly vast universe.

I enjoyed this book but thought some of the action and amount of adversaries with no serious damage to the crew was a bit repetitive. The premise of the story was unique if a little implausible, accepting of space flight with all the other way out gadgets would blow most peoples mind. Some of the snarky comments were good. I thought the use of the AI robot was massively underused, even for planning purposes and he could probably have deduced who the baddies were after a bit of information gathering!! However it was an enjoyable read, the ending of book five did not go as the usual "anti hero walks away bruised but intact" so it still has some mileage as to how or who helps him out. Would recommend for an easy enjoyable read.

Three page long fight scenes left me bored. The hero is allegedly handsome, which is surprising considering the incredible amount of punishment his face takes. Yes, he's got nanobots but he didn't always have them. I forced myself to finish the first book (with a lot of page skimming and skipping)
but will not continue with the box set.

Unintelligent

If you typically like sci-fi and if you are reasonably intelligent, this book series is not for you!
This is the affirmative action hire of the firm. Poorly written, virtually unedited, predictable.
Actually read the damn books on general principle, and regret doing so.

This had all the elements I usually enjoy, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. The pacing was uneven, with some parts dragging while others felt rushed. The characters were interesting, but I struggled to connect with them on a deeper level. It was a decent read, but it left me wanting more substance.

The concept was intriguing, and there were parts I thoroughly enjoyed, but overall it felt underdeveloped. The pacing was inconsistent, with a few slow chapters that were hard to get through. Some characters shone, while others felt like afterthoughts. It’s a decent read, but I expected a bit more polish.

Great

I chose this rating because I started reading this story thinking it wouldn't be that good but found I couldn't put it down. You think for the money in my case 99 pence it wouldn't be that well written but it is and I will be getting next book when it comes out.

Power plays

Alien being visiting earth believing he can have anything he wants runs into a modern day Knight. Then the alien has the Knight abducted and spirited off to an alien prison. Then the story really gets interesting. Good read.

A good read for the most part enjoyed the humour in parts it does repeat a bit but not too bad I was a bit annoyed to get to the end to find out it has a book 6 that isn’t in this set and it has cost me way more to read that than this whole set!
