Scary and Spooky!
A small backstory:
Sarah Pearson and her crew are needed in the Czech Republic as they learn that a cathedral there is haunted. When the team arrive they find out that a priest (Father Hus) is being detained in a room to keep him away from everyone and he has become possessed.
The team learn quickly that they have to get to the bottom of finding out how Father Hus became possessed as the demon within the priest is slowly taking over not only the body of the priest but his mind as well and if they do not purge the demon from the priest there will be no hope left to save him from the possession.
Where did the demon come from? Why is it possessing the priest? Do they exorcise the demon from Father Hus? No spoilers here as you will need to read the book!
Thoughts:
This was my second reread of this book as I am making my way back through the Haunted series. The story has the demonic themes radiating throughout the book and there were quite a few spooky moments. The beginning is a little slow for world building but eventually the book picks up pace and it is off to the haunted realms of author, Lee Mountford's mind! Keeping this book at five "Devilish Demon" stars!

Well, cripes— what a twist. I had a feeling. It was nagging at me the whole time!!! Still- yipes. This series continues to creep up my spine as anything about demons and possessions— doorways to hell, and exorcisms tend to do!
With the fate of the world in their hands, and the weight of the world on their shoulders, three continue to work on this next assignment for the Church and through the mysterious Council they are sent to check out a situation of possession of a priest at the Czech Cathedral of Assumption and also to find out why the demon called one of them there.
I must start the next one right away. After this book took off, it kept building in excitement and I didn’t want to stop reading.

This is the fourth book in the Haunted series by Lee Mountford, two more to go for the moment after this, and each book is as strong as the previous.
I won't go into details if you haven't read the previous but this time, our team of paranormal investigators visit the Czech Republic to determine whether a priest is possessed by a demon and if the Cathedral, like Perron Manor before it, is one of the 7 gates to Hell.
No soppy romance crap between characters, this series gets straight down to business from the start; investigating cases of possession. Fast-paced, plenty of creepy scenes throughout, and a great cast of characters, supernatural/demonic possession fans will thoroughly enjoy it!

3.5 Stars!
Don't misunderstand me, this was a good story but, it wasn't up to the standard of the original Perron Manor series. In this tale our psychic team were cast as some sort of ghost busters to the Catholic Church. I found it annoying that the author would refer to the leader of the psychic team as Father Janosch throughout one chapter and then Luca in the next. Very confusing and at one point I started to suspect that they were two separate individuals. Sarah's Tourette symptoms appear to be getting worse, especially when she is in the company of priests/nuns. Still, it was an enjoyable read.

Holy... f**king shit. This book. This book right here gave me everything. Chills, short of tears, horror, a great story line. One of the best ones from the series by far. Even if you havent read the other ones yet - this is a great spooky book that will catch you off guard. There are real locations, demons, stories in here I found myself googling and being able to add those to the story in my head was a great touch.

3.5 stars. Fun and creepy. A mix of The Conjuring and Supernatural, this book series delivers some really good horror stories that’s fast paced and gripping.
I do wish the characters were a bit more developed, but there’s still many more books in the Haunted series to get to see them grow!

Haunted: Possession is the 4th installment in Lee Mountford's insanely scary Haunted series. I've said so many times that this is one of my all time favourite series so there's no surprise that I loved Possession. I was a bit unsure on where this series was going to go after the events at Perron Manor in the first 3 books but I absolutely loved where this series is going and continues to keep me terrified and completely invested.
Following the events that took place at Perron Manor, Sarah and her team are called to investigate multiple reports of ghosts wondering the halls and a potential demon possession of Father Hus at Kutná Hora, Czech Republic. It doesn't take long to realise all these stories have some truth to them.
This is by far the creepiest book of the series so far. Most of the scenes were just pure sinister, there were so many times that I was genuinely scared of the story I was reading to the point where you would say "Holy S**t!" out loud. Everything just feels so real and you have to appreciate mountfords ability to evoke so many emotions from his readers...mostly just pure terror.
I'm probably repeating myself with each review of the Haunted series but I have so much love for the characters. Mountford always has the power to make the reader feel like they're right there with the characters, so there's no surprise when I say I've grown so attached to them, especially David.
There wasn't any point in this book that I wasn't completely transfixed. It was thrilling, scary and had that constant feeling of suspense. I had big expectations for this book and what I read was something so much better than I could have imagined.
If you enjoy reading the Paranormal Horror genre then I cannot reccommend Lee Mountfords Haunted series enough. Its extremely creepy but very entertaining at the same time. This series introduced me to the Horror genre and has quickly become an all time favorite so believe me when I say you will not be disappointed.

I’ve always thought Mountford was criminally underrated when it comes to horror. He’s continued to hone his craft, releasing at least one (or, in the case of 2020, 4) novels a year, and while each one isn’t necessarily a home run, he has grown considerably since his first novel Horror in the Woods and his Haunted series has been hands-down his best work.
Haunted: Possession continues with the tradition of previous books in the series, only this time using demonic possession (hence the title) as the main focus.
Like haunted houses, possession novels tend to be a dime a dozen and lack creativity. That’s not the case with Mountford’s take on the genre. Obviously the tropes are all here, but it’s done in an amazingly creepy, original way, breathing new life into one of the most overwrought parts of horror. I’m usually super jaded when it comes to this stuff but I gotta say, parts of this book are legit spooky, which shouldn’t come as a surprise since Mountford already did it in the predecessors to this book.
If this how Mountford continues to write and keeps this series moving forward (once again, we are left with a brutal cliffhanger), I can’t wait to see how much more twisted and exciting the Haunted series is gonna get.

Love this book! Couldn't put it down..... again, like the 1st and 2nd books in this series.
I've actually been to the 'Bone Church' it's amazing. I was pleasantly surprised it was in the book.

This review is kind of all over the place. Sorry. And lots of spoilers. At the beginning the church is sending the team out to test Sarah's new abilities. She can sense ghosts and see and talk to them and a bunch of other stuff. They go to investigate this church where a priest has been possessed and asked for Sarah by name and mentioned penmore manor. Whenever they get close to the church Sarah gets nauseous which is a different ability then when she senses ghosts. When that happens is a coldness in her stomach. Anyway It takes the whole book to realize pazuzu is there in the form of a nun that has been helping them the whole time and that is what has been causing the nausea but the nun was always around so Sarah couldn't pin point that it was the nun making her feel that way. The priest is possessed by the ghost of a long ago priest who turned evil and wrote this super accurate Bible with help from the devil but it also included the devils prayer. But long ago 13 pages were ripped from this Bible and lost. It was the devils prayer and it showed how to open a gate to hell and it was the start of that book they found in blackwaters secret room. Ican't remember the name of the book. But the church has it now and they have this girl studying it and helping the team. Turns out the ghost priest had tried to open the devils door back in his time and had gotten through most of the ritual but then was stopped right before he added his blood to it and was dragged outside and killed by the other priests. So both the demon and the ghost have come to finish the ritual. But they need Sarah's blood. Sarah and crew think they need ghost priests blood to finish the ritual but the ghost priests blood won't work only Sarah's. In trying to stop the ritual the priest is able to cut Sarah and make her bleed over the spot the ritual was started at so long ago and complete the ritual. But none of the good guys know that the ritual is completed and all seven gates to hell are now open again because they think they prevented it by not letting the ghost bleed on the ritual spot but the demons tricked them. They got Sarah's blood and then the ghost and demon pretended to be exorcised so Sarah and crew wouldn't know the gate was opened. David and his priest that I can't remember the name of almost are killed in the whole ordeal and a TON of priests and nuns who were living at the church were gruesomly murdered. Like really gross. So David decides to split off from Sarah and good priest and do more tame stuff with his old crew. At the end David and o.g. crew are headed to a suspected run of the mill haunted house to determine whether it is a real haunting or not and Sarah and priest can't tell David what they are doing anymore because it's need to know (also David can't tell his crew what happened at the church) but Sarah tells him they are going to America.
Also there's this random un-named committee of six... higher up church people? lol I don't know how rankings work in the catholic church and if I'm remembering right their rankings are kind of mixed in level anyway. They are determining where everyone goes and what they do but are so secretive that Sarah hates it. They are hiding everything Sarah, David, and crew are discovering and paying them all off under the guise of working for the church to not share what they know. They also arranged for Sarah to get out of prison and not even face a trial because that would mean the whole incident would be exposed to the public in court. Also in the whole ordeal pazuzu tried telling them that Chloe is actually still suffering in hell and there is no heaven. Sarah is shaken and doesn't know what to believe.

Evil doesn’t always stay where it belongs… sometimes, it finds a way in 👀💀
Wow. Haunted: Possession completely wrecked my nerves.. in the best possible way 😏 From the very first chapter, you’re thrown straight into the chaos. No slow build-up, no gentle reminder of where we left off, just pure, relentless energy 😱 The story follows the same paranormal team we’ve come to know (and honestly, root for) as they face a new kind of darkness. This time, it’s not just a haunted location or cursed object… it’s something that takes hold of them. And that twist? It changes everything 😬 I have to say though before reading this book check the TW. There is a lot of gore and bloody scenes, be aware 🤫💀
Without giving away spoilers (because trust me, you want to experience this one fresh), this book takes the entire Haunted series up several notches 👻 There’s more action, more possession and more genuine fear. The kind that makes you glance at your hallway at 1AM and wonder if you should’ve started this in daylight 😬 The nun-like presence throughout the story gave me The Nun meets The Exorcist vibes, pure horror goodness 😱 There’s that heavy religious dread, the echo of whispered prayers and that slow, suffocating feeling that something unseen is watching 👀
What I really loved here is how the tension never truly lets go. Even in the quieter moments, there’s this creeping unease that keeps your shoulders tense 🤫 Every possession scene feels intense and raw, and the emotional toll on the characters actually hits. It’s not just jump scares.. it’s fear that builds, layer by layer, until you’re completely sucked in 🤯 And the way the story connects threads from the earlier books? Beautiful. It ties things together while still keeping you desperate for the next one 😏
Mountford’s writing absolutely shines in Possession ✍ It’s cinematic, bold and unapologetically dark. You can practically see the scenes unfolding, every flicker of candlelight, every distorted shadow, every desperate whisper 👻 His pacing is spot on too; it feels like a full-blown horror movie in book form, but with just enough detail to make you feel every heartbeat 😱 There’s something about his tone, that mix of realism and chaos.. that keeps you hooked. It’s dark, but never dull. Creepy, but not confusing. And most of all: addictive 🙌
The characters felt more alive (and haunted 😏) than ever. You really get to see how the darkness affects each of them differently, the cracks forming, the fears resurfacing. It’s what makes the whole thing feel so believable. They’re flawed, human, terrified and that’s exactly what makes you care so much 💯

This is easily one of the strongest entries in the Haunted series, thrilling, intense and packed with that demonic energy I was craving. If the previous books were the storm building, Possession is the lightning strike ⚡️
I finished it at 2AM, heart racing, lights on and immediately thought: yep, this is why I love horror 😱💀

Maybe it's because things are really ramping up here, but this was the best in the Haunted series so far. More importantly, it was actually scary. The scenes with the possessed priest were chilling and left me with an uneasy feeling that stayed with me when there were less shocking things going on.
The ending was a shocker and completely unexpected.
I've enjoyed the entire series and I really like the world-building that is going on. With every book, we get a bit more about the lore of this world. I also like the fact that Mountford is including real locations in the story. I find myself stopping and looking up places on Google Earth. It's a nice little meta-touch that makes the books a little bit better.
My only real complaint is that Sarah is becoming somewhat of a bitch. I understand that she's been through all kinds of craziness. I also understand that there is probably more going on with her that we don't realize yet. The problem is that I'm starting to find her unlikable. From the first book, she was never my favorite character. So when faced with the fact that she can't stop swearing in a church, I find I dislike her even more. Yes, I get that there is likely a supernatural aspect to it. But if I never really liked her in the first place, I find it hard to root for her.
That's sort of a minor quibble though. Overall, I'm enjoying this series more with each book. Unfortunately, by the time this long, hot summer is over, I'll have made it all the way through the published books and will have to resort to waiting for the next.

HANDS DOWN this is one of my favorite books of the series so far.
There was not a moment of reading this that I was bored or wanted more. From the descriptions of the cathedrals and rooms to the characters and their each individual experiences inside the church I was hanging on every word. The descriptions of the varying stages of the Priests possession was *chef's kiss* and Sister Maria... come on who saw that coming?!
I cant say much about this book without giving away the story because the things I want to talk about are the bigger parts of the story lol but There was just so much that I loved about this one. Sarah's attempts to be a better human being after the shit show that happened in Purgatory is also a great thing to see. David being David is always going to hit well with me ( and I stand by my last statement that if anything happens to him I will strike any further reading from Lee Mountford. )
The only negative I have to say is I was a little put off by how Father Janosch was more taking the side of the council on so many situations that clearly wasn't right.. and I just dont see him as being a person to put someones life in danger because "bigger men told me to". It was a sad thing to see especially due to his reluctance causing innocent people to get killed / hurt. But I mean that is a very small negative compared to the entirety of the book.
I can not recommend this series enough, but not you HAVE to read it if for no other reason than to get to this specific book.
There was not a moment of reading this that I was bored or wanted more. From the descriptions of the cathedrals and rooms to the characters and their each individual experiences inside the church I was hanging on every word. The descriptions of the varying stages of the Priests possession was *chef's kiss* and Sister Maria... come on who saw that coming?!
I cant say much about this book without giving away the story because the things I want to talk about are the bigger parts of the story lol but There was just so much that I loved about this one. Sarah's attempts to be a better human being after the shit show that happened in Purgatory is also a great thing to see. David being David is always going to hit well with me ( and I stand by my last statement that if anything happens to him I will strike any further reading from Lee Mountford. )
The only negative I have to say is I was a little put off by how Father Janosch was more taking the side of the council on so many situations that clearly wasn't right.. and I just dont see him as being a person to put someones life in danger because "bigger men told me to". Dark, gripping, and atmospheric — a haunting read that kept me turning the pages.
Haunted: Possession by Lee Mountford delivered exactly what I hoped for: a tense, eerie supernatural thriller with plenty of twists. From the moment Sarah Pearson and her team arrive at the cathedral in Kutná Hora, the story pulls you straight into its unsettling atmosphere. The haunted setting, the history surrounding the place, and the chilling reports of a possessed priest and a bloody monk all blend together perfectly.
I really enjoyed the pacing — it stays steady and engaging without dragging. The possession of Father Hus is handled in a creepy, believable way, and the mystery behind what’s actually happening in the cathedral slowly builds until everything clicks into a much bigger, darker picture. The reveal of the centuries-old plan added depth to the story and made the stakes feel real.
The only reason I’m giving it four stars instead of five is that a couple of moments felt a bit rushed, and I would’ve loved just a little more time spent developing certain characters and their backstories. But overall, the book was thoroughly enjoyable and definitely delivered on suspense, atmosphere, and supernatural chills.
A great read for anyone who loves paranormal investigations, possession stories, and haunted locations with rich history. I’m absolutely looking forward to continuing the series.

Scarefest Arghhhh!!!!
A haunted cathedral. A possessed priest what more could you want from a horror read.
Absolutely loved this book, whilst I was reading this book I had an overwhelming feeling of dread turning each page it scared the hell out of me. I was relieved when I finished this book not in a bad way at all, but to give my heart a breather as it was elevated throughout with trepidation, there is horror, gore and a scary monk I would never ever want to meet.
There are a lot of scenes in this book that shocked and scared me, but there was especially one frightened me so much I had to put the book down and have a couple of minutes and walkaround before continuing reading.
Never mind the saying edge of your seat read, I nearly fell off mine a few times. It was so intense how this author's words can get under your skin and make it feel like the horror is crawling over you.
This book Haunted: Possession is Book 4 in the Haunted series. The whole series just keep on building up and up, I wonder with each read how this author is going to scare me to leave the light on at night.
Possession, demons, ghostly apparitions it has it all.
This read and the whole series is brilliant, but this is my favourite so far.
Looking forward to the next in the series with immense fear.

Lee Mountford continues not to disappoint and each book seems better than the last. In this book, part of the team is sent to the Czech Republic, where a priest appears to be possessed after being found naked next to a kind of altar in the catacombs.
This priest alternates between moments of lucidity and others in which the supposed demon manifests itself, and it is precisely in one of these manifestations that he demands to speak to Sarah.
Throughout the story we realize that, once again, we may be facing one of the seven gates to Hell and that, as we have seen in previous volumes, Sarah is essential to opening it.
WHAT I LIKED
- The author has managed to maintain a good dose of tension throughout the story

Very spooky Tale
This is the 4th book in a series and could be read as a standalone but I highly recommend getting to know the team in at least the 3rd book.
A priest, a supernatural investigator and Sarah who holds a darkness no one fully understands, are sent to an old cathedral by a secret council.
The reasoning for the investigation is because an alleged possessed priest has asked to speak with Sarah. But is it a trap? And why specifically is Sarah being summoned to this particular place?
A great series that kept me reading to find out what happens next. This author does a great job at mixing historical facts with his fiction to weave a very exciting tale.
I highly recommend everything this guy writes!!

When I purchased this, I didn't realize it was the fourth in a series. As a result, I was a bit puzzled about the constant references to a previous case that the team had experienced. Eventually I realized that there must be at least one previous book in the series. While reading that first book isn't completely necessary, it sure would have helped in my understanding of the characters and their previous experiences.
Possession was a fun and sometimes scary read. I did find the church's actions and motives unnecessarily secretive, and still don't understand the reason for their not sharing all of their motives and information with the team. I also found the ending a bit strange. Still, overall, it was a fun read.

A whole new level of darkness unveils outside Perron Manor, the forces beyond the living world overpowering the faithful and possessing God’s followers. It gets stronger and smarter and mengles with the humans in order to control what they believe is rightfully theirs.
The author has a great way of rolling the story and making it enjoyable, yet terrifying. The horrors described and the gruesome details make it hard to comprehend, yet the images in the mind are hard to ignore.
Nothing short of a trully horrifyingly good book, especially when combined with religious people trying to fight through the powers of hell.
The twist and turn at the end is crucial and the tense story continues with a single question: “what’s next?”

The Most Frightening of the entire Series
Though this book ties in with the entire series....it is to me the most frightening.The Church seems helpless against the demons and the Devil's ultimate plan. Every time it seems the "good guys" are actually winning it turns out to be a planned move on the part of the satanic ones....It actually made my blood run cold....and most frightening aspect is the fact that the church and those involved on the side of God have no idea yet that the battle they thought they had won was another loss and the victory rests with the devil and his forces.... for now.

This part of the series, in my opinion, was a turning point of the series as a whole. Now Sarah, Father Janosch, and David are hunters for Gates of Hell. In this volume, they go to a cathedral and encounter a host of paranormal events, including demonic possession, history, and all sorts of messed up stuff. Mountford describes it perfectly to a T. I was scared at work reading this, especially when the book told about the demonic possession of one of the nuns. The ending pissed me tf off. Now I’m on edge. Now I have no choice but to finish this series!

Horror at its best!
This installment of the Haunted series did not disappoint! To preface, I have been a horror fan for as long as I can remember. It is difficult for me to find horror novels that truly get to me. Lee Mountford has my number though! He spins a horrifying tail that gets u see my skin like no other author ever has. Not only is it horrifying but he has a way of writing that makes me feel like I am immersed in the story. Characters are realistic and well developed. I am drawn in and invested in them. Well done, Mr. Mountford!!!!

I'm glad this book was set in Kutná Hora, but if the author wants to use a language he doesn't know, he should ask someone who knows it. Because out of three uses of Czech, two were wrong. Chapel is not kapel, but kaple. And when Sister Maria asks Sarah, David and Luca who they are, it's not "kdo jsi", but "kdo jste". I know Czech language isn't easy but this kinda hurt my Czech soul. :D

This book starts a new story arc. The characters all now work for the Church investigating supernatural events. Sarah, David, and Father Janosch go on a mission to find out more information about a supposedly possessed priest at a large church. I didn't enjoy this as much as the previous three books. Sarah was a complete annoyance; she was pushy, rude, and self-centred. Somehow I don't remember her that way. Otherwise, the story was good. A decent possession story with a twist I didn't see coming and a creepy ending.

They don't what they have done!
The third book in the series wasn't my so far. But it was very good. Sarah, Father Luca and David go to battle with the evil of the Seven Devil's doors again. Great story! Love the developing stories of the characters and the intertwining of their lives. Each approaches the Evil from a different belief system adding a depth to this series that every time I finish one book I can't wait to start the next one to see what evil they will face. Will the win in the end?

Oproti předchozím knihám opravdu velké zklamání. Kniha neměla hororovou atmosféru, což je u hororu problém. Záměry démonů jsem odhadla prakticky hned. Sarah mi v předchozích knihách nijak nevadila, tady mě vysloveně štvala, protože je nepoučitelná a když to zkazila jednou, proč to nezkazit podruhé, že? Nejvíc mě ale vytočily poznámky na kostnici a mektání o nějakém znesvěcení až neúctě, když cílem bylo buď uložit ostatky zesnulých z masových hrobů a rušených hřbitovů, nebo vysloveně upozornit na vanitas a memento mori. To prostě nemělo s nějakým hanobením ostatků co dělat.

Another good read by Lee Mountford, as he continues the story of Sarah and the events that followed after Perron Manor.
I was wondering how the story would keep on going and I'm glad with the direction it seems to be going. Totally shocked to find out they all became an official team, but I don't trust those church secret group. As for the case, they are sent to investigate felt slow at first, and a bit confusing. The ending was crazy, felt like I was watching the Conjuring movies.
