A Shot with Prince Charming de Maggie Dallen. A Prequel Novella

Argumento:

This book wasn’t the best but wasn’t the worst either. There was no context in the beginning and felt like we were just thrown into the characters lives without knowing anything. I enjoyed the romance between the characters and I liked the friends group but there wasn’t a lot of building whatsoever. Overall it wasn’t terrible but I wouldn’t reread.

Jackson & Ruby

Jackson is the popular jock. His mom owns the Princess Troupe (the company whose employees this series is based on). He has a crush on Ruby and everyone knows it, except her.

Ruby is the quiet photographer. She has been the "new girl" for two years and never really felt like she fit in. She admires Jackson from afar but thinks he is unavailable and way out of her league.

The two are heading off to college in a week so this is Jackson's last chance to tell Ruby how he feels.

A Shot with Prince Charming is a short and sweet novella. The whole story happens in just one day.
This was a great intro to the Princess Troup crew and I recommend reading it before No Place Like Homecoming (Book #1).

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

Maggie Dallen ... A Shot with Prince Charming

This is an introduction to a new series about a party troupe who puts on princess costumes to play roles for children’s parties put on by the rich folks in the small town. Flynn works at the only restaurant in town and handles the catering for these parties. Callie, Willow, and Savannah are the other new seniors who work for Mrs. Messner’s service. This story is sweet involving the big, handsome, nice to everyone, football player Jackson Messner who is off to NYU in a couple weeks as his mother has requested he play Prince Charming with the usual photographer Ruby subbing as Cinderella. She is going to Columbia soon, but these two ‘loners’ find out they have had a crush on each other since Ruby arrived in town two years ago. It’s a good thing they started talking to each other before it was too late! A very enjoyable read.

This is a very short read and if you're in a mood for something cheesy yet also sweet and a clean romance than this is definitely for you. I definitely liked the premise of the story yet I felt the execution of the end of the story could of have been far better in a sense that it didn't leave much more to be desired. I did also find Ruby's character to be interesting as well and it's cool that she's into photographer as well. While it's not my favorite, still did enjoy it for what it was! Again, pretty good read if you're not in the mood for lengthy books during a short time!

When shy photographer Ruby finally sees the truth behind the photos posted on social media of her longtime crush Jackson, she couldn’t be more surprised. I love the longtime crush factor at play in this story. It's so sweet and satisfying when these two realize things are not as they seem. Short read that sets up this series perfectly!

Ruby is a photographer for the small town Princess troupe, a merry band of financially strapped teens who act as princesses and such for the rich people's birthday parties and celebrations. She moved to town two years before and has had a crush on Jackson Messner for just as long. She's a little quiet, timid, and likes to watch things from the sidelines rather than actually be involved with the action. In one week, she's going to go to New York for college, and thus she's trying to get Jackson out of her mind before moving away. When the girl who's supposed to play Cinderella doesn't show, Ruby's forced to play the blue-clad princess alongside—who else?—Jackson Messner as Prince Charming. (You know, typical "coincidences" that happen in romances.)

Jackson is going to NYU soon and is running out of chances to tell Ruby how he feels about her. She's never really given him the time of day, which makes him afraid that maybe she's just not into him. But time is running out, and it just so happens that she, though reluctantly, is made to play Cinderella alongside him. This may very well be his last chance, and he's determined to not let it slip. If only he could stop being so terrified of her rejection.

※※※

This was a short, clean romance read. I found it to be corny and cheesy, but I guess it wasn't a really terrible read overall. I only read it because I really felt like reading something but didn't have much time to spare and I found that this had somehow found its way into my Kindle library. I think I may have gotten it a while back because it was free.

I wasn't a very big fan of Jackson. I thought he was a bit frustrating at times, and the things he said were just so cheesy. *Facepalm* I did like Ruby, though. I found that I could relate to her a lot, especially with the whole "preferring to stay on the sidelines and watch" kinds of introvert-ish things. As an introvert myself, I understood all those feelings of wanting to slip away into a corner and hide to be alone for a little while. I liked all of the other kids in the troupe, too. They were good friends. I kind of like Flynn's character. He was funny. Overall, the characters were pretty likable.

I only noticed one editing mistake, near the end. The word "too" was written twice when it should've been just once.

As this story was only 48 pages long, you can guess that everything felt very rushed, but that can't be helped with stories that short. As it is, I'd say this was an okay read to pass the time.

Spanish & English Opinion

Trope: YA Sweet Romance, Cinderella inspired story
Characters: amazing!
Story: the perfect way to start a series!
Chemistry: 5/5 Ruby and Jackson are the ultimate real fairy tale

ESP ::

ENG ::

I don’t know how Maggie Dallen manages to rewrite a very famous fairy tale, but make it completely original! All the elements were incredible and new. She’s The Queen without a doubt.

Jackson and Ruby are an incredible couple. He’s a preppy jock but a nice person. She’s shy and kind of a loner but also sweet and friendly. Their friends are nice and I’m looking forward to know about them.

What a way to start a series! 💜

(4.5 stars) - Sweet setup for a fun new YA series

The premise of the series is based on the relationships between a group of teens who work together in a troupe as fairytale characters for special events.

Ruby & Jackson are attracted to each other but have a few misconceptions to clear up before they can finally enjoy their first kiss. The friends are all introduced to the readers, & the set up for the first book is solidly in place - I'm looking forward to seeing where the author takes it!

*Romance level: sweet kisses, nothing graphic

Adorably cute sweet read. Ruby is part of the princess troupe but always working in the background whereas Jackson is prince charming himself. Both have had a crush on each other for a long time and due to some misconceptions have never taken the leap to go from secret or not so secret crush to more but this is their last gig together will they take the leap and confess their feelings. These two were super sweet wish there was more to their two hopefully they will pop up again in the coming books! Loved it!

Voluntarily read and reviewed an arc of this book.

Ok, set teens who work together in a troupe as fairytale characters performing at birthday parties and other special events. Perfect excuse for a YA romance, especially in the hands of a master Iike Maggie Dallen. The result is Ruby and Jackson‘s story in A Shot with Prince Charming, the first book , and really a stand-alone prequel story in, her new Fall in Love Like a Princess series. It’s a result that’s romantic and total fun. In other words, a typical result for this talented writer, and one that’s easy to highly recommend.

a must read!

This was adorable!

A Shot with Prince Charming is a cute teen romance centered around a group of friends getting ready to leave for college. They work as princes and princesses at birthday parties. Two of them, however, know more about each other then they think they do.

I thought this story was great. I’m absolutely reading more from this author. It’s a short novella, easy to read, and has a calming energy. This book reminded me of how it felt to lay across the sofa, reading after school as a teen.

High school Seniors Ruby and Jackson both work for Jackson's mom "Princess Troupe" Company and unbeknownst to each other, they have had a crush on one another! Now with only 2 weeks left before they both go off to college, Jackson thinks he'll never have a chance with her! Unless he can get the courage to tell her...but if he does, will it be too late because they are both leaving in two weeks?! Great prequel to a new series!

She had a crush on him, but the popular girl had her claws in him.
He had a crush on her, but every time he approached her, she seemed to run away.
Until this day, the perfect opening, when he was conned into playing Prince Charming, and needed a Cinderella, which she fitted the role perfectly.
Yeah, a couple of hic ups, but it all came right in the end.
You need to read the writer's version, rather than my poor synapses. It is a very enjoyable little tale.

I would give it a 1 star but I’m honestly impressed by the amount of sentences used to describe flushed and tingly . Anyways I didn’t like it as much I felt like I was reading this as if it was written by a 13 year old with unrealistic expectations. I also didn’t like how it happened all at once with no build up to it . Like the L word after only being with her for an hour ? Okay. That’s all.

"I had one smile as far as I knew. Jackson had roughly eight thousand. And they were all hot."

Novellas aren't my favorite as I feel they're too short to really get to know the characters and have a full story but this one was cute! Ruby is sweet and adorable and Jackson is funny and gorgeous! It was fun seeing these 2 finally get together!!

More please!

This prequel is a "typical" Maggie Dallen story in the best sense of the word: it's sweet, funny, and swoony, the characters are easy to root for, and it definitely makes me want to read more books in this series.

This is simply put a very happy YA short story. It’s cute and short and funny and sets the stage for the series that’s starting. Can’t wait to see what Maggie Dallen has planned for these characters (and that’s why I’m starting the next book right after I finish writing this review).

I loved this nostalgic teen coming over age story about puppy love. All over the characters played off each other very well. I could remember all of the anxiety that comes with being a teen and having that first crush. I really liked Jackson and Ruby together.

Short, sweet read

This was a cute short story with two characters who had liked each other but had no clue that the other person liked them too.
