My first year at Salem Bridge Academy was equal parts frightening, awesome, and so very, very hot.
Better still, this year promises to be even better for my boyfriends and me. Or at least that’s what I thought. Because I’m pretty sure the new teacher is responsible for wiping out every other witch on the planet and is here to finish the job. And if I don’t want to be next on his hit list, my wizards and I will have our work cut out for us.
Wonder, dragons, fae, fantasy, and romance, these are the things Melody Rose loves to write about. If these are the things you love, please think about following me on Amazon or on Facebook.
Why doesn't the main character look like what she is African American mixed with something else?
My review is about the cover for this series. The book goes into detail about all of the different characters how they look talking about their features even down to their eye colors, but I feel that the girl on the cover of the book doesn't accurately represent how Amber May Hollow should look. One of the books talked about her having box braids, and I am not saying that the cover picture has to have her in those. However, the cover picture should be more authentic.
I think I enjoyed this even better than the second one. There's still some minor things about it...
So, I did enjoy the first book. I think I liked this one even better for various reasons. Namely, you really couldn't tell who the possible "bad guy" was at first or the reason why they might have to be after Amber. I enjoyed all of the altercations and her trying to figure out her stronger magic!
Here's where my negative feedback comes in, however.
The cover of these books shows a Caucasian woman with red hair. Then, at the beginning of this book, I read this:
"I’d been adopted as a baby by parents who were white with an older sister who looked like a redheaded barbie doll, so Eli was the first person I’d ever lived with who was black, like me. While Brayson and Corduroy towered above me, Elyas was also five foot eight like I was, with skin a few shades darker than my own."
In the first book (I looked back to be sure), it didn't seem to mention that either of them were black. It did mention briefly that she didn't live with anyone who looked like her, but I didn't think much of it. This is no biggie, but it just threw me for a loop when I've been envisioning the character to look like the one on the cover! If these descriptions are accurate, then the woman pictured seems to look more like her adoptive sister, Kim, than herself!
Another thing that's inconsistent: In the first 35% of the book or so, one of her boyfriends says he loves her. She returns the words. It doesn't seem like a big deal in the book, almost like they've said them before (though I knew no one had). At about 44% in, another boyfriend tells her, and it says, "He hadn’t said that before. No one had, actually. The last person to tell me they loved me romantically was Carson, my ex-boyfriend. " So... we're just ignoring that boyfriend A said it and that she casually returned the sentiments, but make a big deal about boyfriend B? It seems the author forgot she wrote that earlier scene, which sucks. It should have been a bigger moment, in my opinion, let alone one that was forgotten.
Other than that, great story! I had considered not continuing after the first book. It could be read as a standalone, but decided since the second one was only like 264 pages or something, I'd entertain it anyway. I'm glad I did, and I'm just intrigued enough to read the next one.
I enjoyed the plot of the book but I felt like the relationships took a back burner. We saw small interactions that turned into less than spicy s*x scenes (some were better than others). I enjoyed Nick's character a lot but I found that they jumped from having feelings for each other to having s*x very quickly. There wasn't much build up. I honestly was shipping him with Eli from the beginning and I would prefer that new character don't flock to her right away. The story was good but the plot twist could be seen from a mile away as soon as the bad guy started acting slightly different. I did really love seeing her work on her magic more. It was interesting to see the potential she has even without having control. Having a main character that is op is really cool when they don't instantly know how to use it.
The FMC mentions that no one has ever told her they loved her before aside from family, even though Brayson and her already said it in the previous book
The relationships make no sense to me. She just sleeps with them and apparently they're now in relationships with 4 men without talking to any of them about it.
Then there's Corduroy... who literally abused her and she's just cool being friends with him.
I don't understand why she's so dang weak in every aspect and there's so many changes from the first book to this one.
She "hasn't used ignis since the garden" but in the prior book she said she was tutored and doing just fine. So much dang back and forth. It's not that hard to take notes and make sure you're staying with the storyline and plots.
She does so well then she's terrified to do magic.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved how she was starting to get along with Corduroy, although I am interested in where he was going in the forest that was never explained when the first book profs died. I loved how Samson had more spot light in this book. I felt there was a tiny bit of disconnect from the natural flow of the book. It would flow seamless and then it would jump ahead and how her fears about doing magic stopped her from doing magic. We only heard about it after it had been happening weeks later. Otherwise, I loved it. I didn’t guess who the bad guy was or anything until it was just about revealed. Good guessing game on that one. Can’t wait to read the next one!
This was such a great sequel. Her power dynamics and they way she had such realistic struggle was amazing. This was the first book I’ve bought for Kindle. I saw that it was releasing on the 19th and stay up til midnight that night just to see if it’ll release then... it didn’t, but I was checking repeatedly throughout the day! I’m so excited for the next book. Amber is such an amazing woman who goes through great character development. Thank you for sharing her story.
I’m really loving this series so far it’s storyline is great! And I love the characters in it. It really keeps you on the edge of you seat. My only complaints is some of the professors names in it are really hard to pronounce properly and I would like Amber to stop being such a softy I would like her to toughen up a bit and stop being so afraid of her powers. But in saying that I can’t wait to read book 3 of this series.
Now that Iverson is taken care of Amber should be able to move on and continue her magical education. Four new teachers are even hired to help with the workload and her tutoring. But now that she’s even more powerful she’s worried about losing control and hurting someone. Definitely doesn’t help that some her classmates have been harassing her. And weird things have been happening. Not much character growth but good plot line. But I guessed the baddie pretty early on lol
It was great to read about the only witch in the world and how powerful she is. The story which wraps around that is superb to read and flows really well. It’s just marvellous to explore these other realms world and the joys of flying and teleportation. Well worth a read.
This book was great, completely full of action, twists and intrigue. I couldn’t put it down. Love the relationships that have developed and further strengthened and on the flip side those crazy enemies which seem to just come out if the woodwork. Overall a fantastic read - can’t wait to see what happens next
Amber and all her 👦guys sit at the table in the cafeteria. The Professors are all overextended in doing their classroom assignments and Iverson's classroom assignments. Mr. Swathe, Amber and everyone try to pick up where they can but bullying still has a hold.
Studied for Sorcery, the second book of the Makings of a Witch series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). This book plot wasn't as exciting to me as the series starter, the reveals were predictable. The character relationships didn't make much sense either. I'll try book three as I'm hopeful things started out so well.
A wonderful story with some action and some heat. Amber goes through another ordeal, and with the help of her friends and her men she prevails. I can't wait to see what happens next.
An international secret society, exploding apples, mean kids and smouldery Italian teaching assistant. The anti has been upped and they barely made it out alive. So what’s next? Interesting story - will be checking out the next book.
