The K Team #3

Citizen K-9

Rate this book
In Citizen K-9 , bestselling author David Rosenfelt masterfully blends mystery with dogs and humor to create an investigative team that readers will be rooting for book after book.

The Paterson Police Department has created a cold case division, and they want to hire the private investigators known as the K Team to look into the crimes. After all, Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, German shepherd Simon Garfunkel, recently retired from the force. Plus, another K Team member, Laurie Collins, used to be a cop as well.

Their first cold case hits home for the K Team. A decade ago, at Laurie's tenth high school reunion, two of their friends simply… vanished. At the time Laurie had just left the force, and Corey was in a different department, so they had no choice but to watch from the sidelines. With no leads, the case went cold.

As the team starts to delve deeper into the events leading up to that night―reopening old wounds along the way―the pieces start to come together. But someone wants to stop them from uncovering the truth behind the disappearance, by any means necessary.

I am a novelist with 27 dogs.

I have gotten to this dubious position with absolutely no planning, and at no stage in my life could I have predicted it. But here I am.

My childhood was relentlessly normal. The middle of three brothers, loving parents, a middle-class home in Paterson, New Jersey. We played sports, studied sporadically. laughed around the dinner table, and generally had a good time. By comparison, "Ozzie and Harriet's" clan seemed bizarre.

I graduated NYU, then decided to go into the movie business. I was stunningly brilliant at a job interview with my uncle, who was President of United Artists, and was immediately hired. It set me off on a climb up the executive ladder, culminating in my becoming President of Marketing for Tri-Star Pictures. The movie landscape is filled with the movies I buried; for every "Rambo", "The Natural" and "Rocky", there are countless disasters.

I did manage to find the time to marry and have two children, both of whom are doing very well, and fortunately neither have inherited my eccentricities.

A number of years ago, I left the movie marketing business, to the sustained applause of hundreds of disgruntled producers and directors. I decided to try my hand at writing. I wrote and sold a bunch of feature films, none of which ever came close to being actually filmed, and then a bunch of TV movies, some of which actually made it to the small screen. It's safe to say that their impact on the American cultural scene has been minimal.

About fourteen years ago, my wife and I started the Tara Foundation, named in honor of the greatest Golden Retriever the world has ever known. We rescued almost 4,000 dogs, many of them Goldens, and found them loving homes. Our own home quickly became a sanctuary for those dogs that we rescued that were too old or sickly to be wanted by others. They surround me as I write this. It's total lunacy, but it works, and they are a happy, safe group.

This was an easy read and a good mix of humor and mystery. I love the K Team!

Corey and Laurie are former cops but they're now the K Team doing private investigation. They have a scary investigator Marcus (think muscle) and a German shepherd, Simon Garfunkel (aww, love the name!) as part of the team. K Team is tasked by the Paterson NJ police to help with some cold case homicides. While going through several cases, the one that stood out was one involving two old schoolmates both of whom vanished after their High School reunion seven years ago.

David Rosenfelt did a wonderful job with the story and characters that you can read as a standalone. Of course me being an Andy Carpenter fan, I can't help but wish there were more witty humor and sarcasm in this one. Fred Berman's voice is great as Corey and for the series. If you're looking for a quick, light mystery (not cozy), Citizen K-9 hits the spot just right!

Thank you Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for this audio advance copy.

I have enjoyed David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter series so I thought I’d give this series a shot.

This book has a cast of characters that I was mostly familiar with from the other series but this book includes the character of Corey Douglas a retired police detective and his canine assistant Simon Garfunkel. It also includes Laurie Collins an ex-policewoman and Marcus, their muscle man. They call themselves the K-9 team.

We are again in the small town of Paterson and dealing with the Paterson Police Department. This time they are working on a cold case from a decade ago. Two classmates of Laurie’s disappeared after their 10th high school reunion.

I thought the sleuthing in this book was o.k., however I soon realized that it was the sharp witted humor of Andy Carpenter, the lawyer in the other series that I enjoyed.

This series didn’t make me laugh but it was an easy read and did offer closure on a decade’s old case.

The way the team operated and their findings seemed a little far fetched but it was a nice break from thrillers!!

I do applaud Mr. Rosenfelt as he has established a very large rescue operation for canines. He describes it here : “About fourteen years ago, my wife and I started the Tara Foundation, named in honor of the greatest Golden Retriever the world has ever known. We rescued almost 4,000 dogs, many of them Goldens, and found them loving homes. Our own home quickly became a sanctuary for those dogs that we rescued that were too old or sickly to be wanted by others. They surround me as I write this. It's total lunacy, but it works, and they are a happy, safe group”.

I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through Edelweiss.

In this 3rd book in the 'K Team' series, the private detective agency investigates the disappearance of two people a decade ago. The book works fine as a standalone.

*****

The K Team series is a spin-off of Rosenfelt's humorous 'Andy Carpenter' mystery series, set in Paterson, New Jersey. Andy is a criminal defense lawyer whose wife, private detective Laurie Collins Carpenter, is the investigator for his firm.

Now Laurie is part of a new detective agency that calls itself 'The K Team.' The members of The K Team are Laurie;

Marcus Clark - the toughest, scariest guy on the planet;

Corey Douglas - a retired cop; and Simon Garfunkel - a K-9 German shepherd who worked with Corey at the Paterson Police Department.

The Paterson Police Department has extra money for consultants, so Homicide Captain Pete Stanton hires the K Team to look into a cold case. A decade ago, Chris Vogel and Kim Baskin left a high school reunion together and were never seen again. The schoolmates had no known personal relationship - and Kim was engaged to be married - so the duo vanishing at the same time is especially mysterious.

The K Team looks at old high school yearbooks to identify friends of the deceased, and interviews people who knew them. The detectives learn that teenage Chris Vogel was an intelligent nerd who belonged to organizations like the science club and the debate club.....

.....and adult Chris Vogel had a reputation for using drugs and gambling.

As for Kim, she was an average high school girl who hung out with her friends.

The K Team speculates that Chris was killed because of his drug connections, and Kim - who became a responsible adult with a good job - was collateral damage.

Since Corey and Laurie are former cops they know the drug kingpins in Paterson, and they look into the possibility of a gang related hit on Chris. Investigation of the drug lords leads to threats against Corey's girlfriend Dani, whose life may well be in danger. Additional murders complicate the case, and the K Team has its work cut out for it.

As usual, the characters are a high point of the story. Corey and his dog Simon visit their old police precinct, and Simon struts through like the Grand Marshall of a parade, getting petted by everyone;

tough guy Marcus dispatches bad guys before they even see him coming;

gray-haired computer hacker Sam gathers information and tracks cell phones;

Andy is tapped for free legal advice and take-out food and pizza for the K Team - four pizzas for Marcus and four pizzas for everyone else to share;

Andy and Laurie's dogs Tara, Sebastian, and Hunter play with Simon; and so on.

Corey's intuition helps him unmask the perpetrators, who turn out to be a dangerous bunch. Corey is the story's narrator and his dry sense of humor - and sardonic comments - add fun to the tale.

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Fred Berman, who does a fine job. Fans of the K Team won't want to miss this story.

Thanks to Netgalley, David Rosenfelt, and Macmillan Audio for a copy of the book.

I am a huge fan of David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter series. The K Team is an offshoot of that series. The K Team is an investigative group formed by Laurie, Marcus and a retired K9 detective, Corey Douglas.
In this, the third book in the series, the Patterson police department has asked the K Team to investigate a cold case. One that just happens to involve two members of Corey’s high school class that went missing the night of a reunion 7 years earlier.
As with Rosenfelt’s Carpenter series, the mystery is well thought out and interesting. I didn’t suss out the culprit until revealed. But it lacks the trademark humor of the other series. It’s told from the POV of Corey, and he’s a straight arrow, unlike Andy’s wisecracking personality. However, there’s a surprise concerning Marcus that alone was worth reading the book.
Fred Berman is the narrator and does a decent job, though his voice doesn’t sound like how I would have pictured Corey’s voice.
My thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for an advance copy of this audiobook.

Corey Douglas and his dog Simon are retired from the police department, and currently work with the K Team private investigators. Pete Stanton, the Paterson police chief, hires the K Team to investigate a cold case: two people disappeared from a high school reunion 7 years ago and were never seen again. Why would Kim and Chris have left the reunion together when they hardly knew each other? Was the murder related to organized crime figures since Chris was a known addict and gambler? Rosenfelt has written another cleverly-plotted mystery in which a dog plays a central role. I received a copy of this book courtesy of the publisher via Edelweiss.

Minotaur Books has been amazing to me recently, and I thank them for the advanced copy of Citizen K-9 by David Rosenfelt!  This is a spin-off from his ANDY CARPENTER series which explains a few of the apparent character cameos and references made.  Since I haven’t read any of those books (or the first two in THE K TEAM series) I will treat this as a standalone!

Overall, I liked this one! It was a very quick read with lots of action and humor to keep it interesting.  I thought it was cool to see the (retired) police dog in action even though I definitely wanted more page time for Simon.

I'll go back and read the first two novels to see what other exploits he has had - it's so easy to root for a K-9.

I liked the characters too.  Corey is a little cut and dry at times but it was not a bad first person POV at all.  Marcus was hilarious with his little quirk, and I liked Andy's cameos.  Laurie didn't get a ton of page time and I would have liked to see a little more from her too, even if Corey and Simon were the main duo.

The case itself was interesting too.  I like cold cases.

I had a few minor issues like how the author would interrupt action scenes for commentary and side jokes. Especially in the first person POV where we are seeing a dangerous scene from someone's eyes, just let the scene finish then talk about it. I wouldn't expect a retired cop in real time to pause and joke about their word choice in the middle of disarming some dangerous men.  Also some of the analysis got repetitive when they weren't coming up with any new information.

I expected action from both dogs on the cover although now I know that the golden retriever was the main Canine character from the ANDY CARPENTER series and probably already had her time in the spotlight.

This one 100% works as a standalone.  I would probably recommend starting the series from the beginning, just to have more time with The K Team, but there's no reason not to read it by itself either!

Free Copy received from the publisher in exchange for an honest review, all opinions are my own!

Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, German shepherd Simon Garfunkel, recently retired from the police force. They are now part of a team of private investigators known as the K-Team looking to solve cold case crimes.

Laurie Collins, a former cop, is also an integral part of this team. The case their client wants them to solve hits close to home, for it was at Laurie's 10th high school reunion, that two of their friends went missing from a car. No one knows what happened, or even if they are dead or alive.
There's lots of characters in this book, and at first, I was getting a little confused as to who was who. But the ending ties it up in a nice neat bow with a great twist I didn't see coming.

As a Private Investigator-former cop, Corey Douglas is a mixture of tough and intelligent, like Sam Spade, Philip Marlow, and Jake Gittes. He don't beat around the bush, he's not intimidated, and is as cool as a cucumber when threatened personally. Just don't mess with his dog or his lady... no, that's not good. His feelings are sweet and protective of his lady.

I had the privilege of listening to the audiobook version of Citizen K-9, narrated by Fred Berman. Mr. Berman is absolutely believable as a hard boiled P.I., and the audiobook is a fantastic way to enjoy this series. I have enjoyed all of them.

Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and David Rosenfelt for the opportunity to have a AAC in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

As a huge fan of David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series, I was thrilled by the opportunity to listen to the audiobook of Citizen K-9, the third book in the K Team series, which is a spin-off of the Andy Carpenter series. This is my first chance to read any of the K Team books, and I was able to jump right in without having read the previous K Team books.

The K Team books feature retired cop Corey Douglas and his partner, K-9 Simon Garfunkel. I was delighted that just about all the other characters I know and love from the Andy Carpenter books appear in Citizen K-9, too. For those readers familiar with the characters from the other series, Laurie, Marcus, and Sam play important roles on Corey's investigative team, and Andy's dogs, the dog rescue foundation, and even bad guy Joseph Russo Jr all make an appearance.

Corey Douglas and his K Team are employeed by the Paterson Police Dept, headed up by Andy's friend Pete, to investigate a cold case involving the murder of two people when they left their high school reunion seven years ago. The K Team uncovers layers of bad guys and secrets, with Corey being the character in danger throughout the book. Corey is a no-nonsense retired cop with a conscience and a fierce instinct to protect those he loves. K-9 Simon Garfunkel just might be the star of the show, and he gets to show off his impeccable skills against the bad guys. I will certainly read more K Team books.

The narrator was easy to listen to and did a great job of differentiating between character voices when necessary.

Thank you to NetGalley, Mr. Rosenfelt, and Macmillan Audio for an advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Seven years ago, two people disappeared from a high school reunion and were never seen again. The Paterson Police Department has created a cold case division and hires the K Team to help solve this baffling case. Citizen K-9 has it all: gambling, drugs, and high-stake crime bosses! Also, it can be read as a standalone.

K Team's human members are likable and believable, and I (of course) love Simon Garfunkle, the retired police K-9. I'm getting used to Corey having a sense of humor, which I don't remember his having in the author's Andy Carpenter series. I very much enjoyed reading Citizen K-9, although the cover of the book was rather misleading. That doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Good Dog, Bad Cop, and reading more about the K Team and my favorite member, Simon!

The thing about Rosenfelt's books is that the stories themselves could be true crime with an unlikely (but astute) lawyer but are presented as clear fiction because of the sly humor which makes them fun instead of horror.
The publisher's blurb is a great hook, but the incredible due diligence carries the day with a lot of snarkiness. It really doesn't matter if you've read any of the Andy Carpenter books, this stands alone as a winner! Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, Simon Garfunkel, have recently retired from the police force only to join up with a former colleague, the ex-cop wife (Laurie) of early retired lawyer Andy Carpenter. Excellent read with the most amazing twists!
Fred Berman narrates this fast-paced snark fest full of very interesting characters very well indeed!
I requested and received a free temporary audio copy from St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

I thought that the book did a good job by intriguing me by the synopsis for the book. I’m a lover of pets, so adding Simon to the book was a plus. Corey’s character sort of reminded me of a tv detective. He was laid back, but he took notice to everything around him. His partners seemed to have that dry humor about them. I felt that the book was a slow burner book. It took a few chapters to get to the entertaining part of the story. The book is written in that second person narrative, which confused me sometimes, because I didn’t know if it was another person speaking or if it was Corey.

The novel is set today in Patterson, New Jersey. Retired Police Officer Corey Douglas and his trusty sidekick German Shepherd Simon Garfunkel are the main protagonists. The Patterson PD is baffled by the amount of cold cases in town. They are at a dead end; no leads whatsoever. So the PD asks now Private Investigator Corey Douglas to look into these crimes. Also retired PD office Laurie Collins, also a K Team member, agrees to help Corey. Their first cold case is a man Laurie knew in high school a decade ago. This man disappears after their tenth high school reunion. As the team delves deeper into this man's past and those he knew, old wounds seems to fester. It appears that they are certain crime bosses who do not look favorably on reopening this case. I found this novel filled with suspense and was masterfully written.

David Rosenfelt’s latest book should come with a warning: Reading it most likely will cause you to have a new, can’t-miss series on your hands. Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter novels are beloved by readers who enjoy the clever whodunits, the canines and the protagonist’s self-deprecating humor. The same can be said for his spinoff series about a group of private investigators known as the K Team, the third installment of which is the newly released CITIZEN K-9.

Seven years ago, two people disappeared from a high school reunion and were never seen again. The car belonging to one of them is found in a parking lot, but there are no bodies, and there is no evidence or apparent motive for anyone to have killed them. The Paterson Police Department has created a cold case division and hires the K Team to help solve this baffling case. The K Team consists of Laurie Collins, Andy Carpenter's wife and a former cop; Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, German shepherd Simon Garfunkel, both retired officers; and Marcus Clark, the enforcer we admired in the Andy Carpenter series for communicating in grunts and his almost superhuman strength and ability to thwart the bad guys.

As mystery readers know, we must be on the lookout for red herrings. In CITIZEN K-9, Laurie, Corey and Marcus quickly figure out who ordered the murders. Could it really be that easy? Our intrepid team doesn't want to stop investigating; they are determined to find out where the bodies are and why Kim Baskin was murdered along with Chris Vogel. While Vogel seemed to have a risky lifestyle that consisted of drugs and gambling, Baskin not only had nothing fishy in her life, she really had almost no connection to Vogel except that they both attended the reunion. So what is really going on here?

We hear the story from Corey’s point of view as he tells us what is happening and his thoughts on the progress of the investigation. We also learn about his personal life; his girlfriend, Dani, lives with him most of the time and is a real keeper. I am pleased to report that Andy Carpenter also makes appearances in this series. And in keeping with his persona, these cameos are always chuckle-inducing. In addition to "borrowing" Andy, the team uses Sam Willis, the tech wizard who almost magically finds important information that proves invaluable in solving mysteries. As a former cop, Corey is on the fence about Sam's extremely unorthodox (read: illegal) methods, but it becomes easier to accept them when the results are in.

Rosenfelt often includes truly depraved villains in his books, and this novel is no exception. Although he doesn't reveal all the clues until the very end, there are definite hints along the way regarding the nature of the crimes here. CITIZEN K-9 is a hit in terms of being a twisty mystery with subtle humor throughout, featuring characters whom we grow to admire. And, of course, there are the dogs.

In real life, Rosenfelt and his wife have rescued over 4,000 canines and continue to take in huge homeless dogs (like mastiffs) in need. They are true animal lovers! His book release events usually benefit local animal rescues, and hearing him speak is a brilliantly enjoyable experience. Just picture visiting with Andy Carpenter.

The K-9 team has been hired by the Patterson Police Department to look into some cold cases. They are given a choice of cases and the team chooses one with a connection to Corey. Seven years earlier, a man and woman -- Chris Vogel and Kim Baskin -- disappear from the same 15-year high school reunion Corey is attending. There has been no trace of them since.

As the team reinterviews all of the witnesses interviewed during the first investigation, they don't find much. They do learn that Vogel was dealing drugs for local drug lord Escobar and was also informing for the DEA. While Escobar could be guilty, it doesn't seem the way he would have done things. Disappearing a body has less impact than a messy public death on anyone with future plans for betrayal. And there is no reason that they can find for anyone to want Kim Baskin dead.

Corey investigates some of Vogel's friends who are also baffled, while Laurie and Marcus deal with possible connections to Escobar. Along the way they also discover a hired killer named Z who might or might not be working for Escobar.

I liked Corey's growing relationship with Dani Kendall. I also liked Corey's snarky voice as he narrates this story. The plot was fast-paced and interesting with enough twists and turns to keep me guessing.

I am a huge fan of David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series and, as such, came into this audio book with certain expectations. I initially found the going slow, rare for me with Rosenfelt. Corey Douglas is no Andy Carpenter but he has his own style and sense of humor, however. It's more subtle perhaps than Andy Carpenter readers are accustomed to but as the story went along and I began to fall into the rhythm, it emerged more fully. Corey is also dedicated to not just his dog, retired canine officer Simon Garfunkel, but his lady and when a subtle threat to her is sent, he becomes even more focused, if that is possible. Oh, still cool and collected but laser focused on eliminating the threat to her, even if it rests on shaky legal grounds or costs him his life.

Let's just say, just like Andy, Corey has a talent for putting himself in dangerous spots. Of course, Laurie and Marcus have his back. Ex-police officer Laurie, as Andy's wife, can also call on his lawyer know-how as needed, even if Andy quips constantly where he should be sending his bill. As always, Marcus is a force onto himself and, heads up, we learn something new about Marcus in this episode. Shhh, don't tell Andy.

The plot is based on the K-Team being hired to investigate a cold crime of pretty much their own choosing. It's almost a no-brainer that they would opt for the one regarding the death of a high school classmate after a reunion that Laurie and Corey both attended. As Corey and the team follow the clues with an assist from Andy and his accountant, computer hacker wiz Sam, it becomes increasingly obvious that there is someone out there who doesn't want this crime to be solved. Who are they annoying? Well, besides the mob? What do drugs and gambling have to do with it? Could the male victim's job be related? Where are the vicitms?

Bottom line, if you come into "Citizen K-9" with an open mind and allow the rhythm to cast its spell, you're likely to enjoy it tremendously. And, oh, did I mention, that Andy's dogs make an appearance? I may have had no clue who did it until the big reveal but, quite frankly, didn't care. I just sit back, turned on the audio and let narrator Fred Berman lure me onto the roller coaster that, as always, is a David Rosenfelt book.

Thank you #NetGalley and #MacmillanAudio for inviting me to drop in on the doings in Patterson and hang out with the K-Team and visit Andy's dogs again. Kudos for Rosenfelt's continued involvement in the real life Tara Foundation, btw.

I've been a huge fan of Rosenfelt's for years- but this is actually the first time that I have listened to the audio version of one of his fictional books. I always read them to share my copy with my dad, who is as big of a Rosenfelt fan as I am. But, when I got the chance to listen to this one, I decided to give it a whirl! And I really enjoyed listening! Rosenfelt's characteristic humor had me laughing out loud as I listened while getting some things done around the house. The performer perfectly hit the right notes with the humor and the banter. I really enjoyed listening - though since Rosenfelt's chapters aren't numbered, it would have been difficult to switch between the audio and another format.

As for the mystery itself, the detective group is hired by the police department to consult on cold cases. They start with the disappearance of two people from a high school reunion a number of years earlier. As they work the case, it seems to spring it all back to life, with threats, more bodies and plenty of excitement. It's a quick and entertaining listen. I was always eager to get back to listening (if it did mean folding laundry) and greatly enjoyed seeing all of these familiar characters. I do prefer the Andy Carpenter series to this one (I like the courtroom drama), but I do thoroughly enjoy this series as well. The plot especially takes some surprising turns. It was fun to see Marcus in a new light here, too. And always, I enjoyed seeing the love of dogs that shines through each and everyone of Rosenfelt's books. He's a talented author and definitely one of my favorites! I especially appreciate what a prolific writer that he is with each year at least two and sometimes three books coming out! I always finish them quickly and am always eager for the next one!

Thank you @minotaur_books for my #arccopy of Citizen K-9. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I broke my own rule of never reading a series out of order but 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s book 3 so I figured it was worth a shot.

This was a cozy mystery but did have a few darker than expected scenes. I really wish there had been more about the pup character. As a dog lover I’m a sucker for a good k9 character in a book, but he was only mentioned a few times.

I really enjoyed David Rosenfelts writing and look forward to checking out his other books.

I would rate this one at 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 stars.

Thank you so much to St. Martins Press and @Minotaur_Books for sending me an early copy of Citizen K-9!

The K Team, made up of Private Investigators and a German Shepard, named Simon Garfunkel 😂 starts working for the Police Department looking into cold cases. One case in particular stands out to them as it involved their friends that went missing at a high school reunion years ago.

The cover is ridiculously cute and drew me in to want to read it. The chapters are fairly short making it a quick and easy read. This book read more like a police procedural type mystery mixed with humor. This is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone. Overall it was quite an enjoyable read and releases on March 15!

The third installment in "The K Team" series, this book was really enjoyable. The main characters are all likable, and the mystery was complex enough to keep my attention. This book was well-written, well-paced, creative, and entertaining - very well worth the time to read. Hoping another installment is forthcoming!

My thoughts:⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
—I love this group of characters. I love their personalities and how easy it is to connect with them. I feel like I want to be their friend! ⁣⁣
—This is the third installment in the series. I read the first two on audiobook and LOVED listening to them! ⁣⁣
—This is a quick, easy read that kept me guessing. The book was a nice change of pace from my typical mystery/thriller book as it’s more of a cozy mystery, which I really liked. However, there are some more intense graphic details thrown in so be aware of those. ⁣⁣
—I’ll definitely follow this series! Loved it. ⁣

Will someone tell me why David Rosenfelt decided to create this new series and why I continue reading it?

Andy Carpenter, one of my favorite characters, has taken a back seat to a moronic former cop. All the old familiar gang are just cardboard versions of their former selves. The writing is as if Mr Rosenfelt has reverted to a third grader. Ridiculous dialogue and an improbable plot.

Now that Marcus is articulate are we going to be reminded that he is a Black man?

PS - the Daniel angle is still present in the form of Dani. She should be eliminated with a quick twist of the neck, she is a total whiny dumbbell. On second thought, she and Corey do make a perfect pair.

I'm not so happy with K9 as Andy stories.. and not enough dog emphasises. Although Simon rocks, of course.

Flat characters, boring narration, the dogs were barely in it. And there was supposed to be humor in this? Where????

Anyway, this book sucked.

I blitzed through this book in one day. I started on my way home from the gym and I finished shortly after a Pokemon community day, having listened all through the event. I enjoy this series and I was pleased I had kind of figured it out just before the main character did, which is the right timing. It starts with a high school reunion (I've never gone to any of mine....quite frankly, I don't understand why anybody has nostalgia for high school. Also is that a uniquely American thing or is that a thing that happens in other countries, too?). A guy goes to his reunion, leaves with a girl with the obvious intent to do her harm, and both end up missing and the case cold. In comes the K Team, two of who went to the same school, one in the same year (who was at the reunion).

Unlike a cozy mystery, this takes place in Patterson, NJ, where it is not remotely shocking that there are murders (sorry not sorry New Jersey). I basically couldn't put it down and while I don't like the narrator for this series as much as I do for the Andy Carpenter series proper, I enjoy these characters and seeing Andy and the dogs pretty often.

the team investigates a cold case which is related to Corey & Laurie as it deals with missing persons from their high school reunion.
I enjoy this spin-off series very much as it has the same characters as the writer's Andy Carpenter series as well as his humor.
Intriguing mystery & action/suspense.
Loved the bits about Marcus which was LOL hysterical!!!

This one had a much more different plot than the others. Good job mixing it up, David.

Citizen K-9 by David Rosenfelt is the third book in the K Team series. It features Corey Douglas, retired police officer and his retired police dog, Simon Garfunkel. Fello K Team members include Andy Carpenter's wife and ex-cop Laurie along with her former partner Marcus. The team gets called in by police as contractors to look into old cold cases. One case immediately catches Corey's eye. It involves two classmates who disappeared from his high school reunion 7 years earlier. Kim Baskin and Chris Vogel left the reunion together and their car was found abandoned a short distance away with a playing card left in the glove compartment. No further trace of them was ever found.
Vogel was a bit of a nerd in high school with only a couple of close friends and no apparent connection to Kim Baskin. The team discovers that Vogel had ties to drugs and organized crime. When they discover other unsolved crimes around the country with a playing card at the crime scene, they know they've stumbled onto something big, but putting it all together is going to be difficult.

Corey's dry humor is a lot of fun and the team's skillset and how it complements each other is exciting. This is a well-crafted mystery with each clue barely leading to the next and offering opportunities for speculation that makes you doubt whatever theories you may be harboring. It all ties together in an exciting conclusion that will have you racing to the finish.

Rosenfelt is a mystery at injecting humor into a satisfying mystery and populating his story with funny and intriguing characters. We even get to learn a little more about the taciturn and intimidating Marcus! Fans of any of Rosenfelt's previous work will feel at home here, as will any lover of well-crafted mysteries.

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher.

I really enjoyed this quick mystery novel. I have not yet read the first two books in the series, but I do do plan to go back and read them after finishing this book. The main character Corey has a lovable GSD named Simon. They are both retired from the police force. They have been hired by the police department to help investigate a cold case that turns out is personal for another member of the investigation team, Laurie. Due to this fact, we learn a little about their past. I really enjoy the relationship between Corey and Simon. They are a great pair.

The mystery has some twists and turns. Throughout the investigation we are introduced to a lot of characters that can sometimes make keeping track of everyone a bit complicated. The end is tied up nicely. Overall the writing is good. The narrator also did a good job with this book. I would give this a solid 4 stars. Thanks to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and Minotaur Books for the advanced audio copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

This is my first time listening to a audiobook by David Rosenfelt and I really enjoyed being read to by Fred Berman. I have been reading mystery books by David Rosenfelt for many years and I am an avid reader of all his book series. I particularly like this newer series by David Rosenfelt, the K team novel series, which is called Citizen K-9 and listening to this audiobook is now my favourite way to enjoy this series. Corey, Simon, Laurie and Marcus are back solving a cold case for Pete. They are assisted by Andy Carpenter and Sam Willis. I forgot that Corey’s girlfriend Danny also helps with the case and learn new developments regarding Danny and Marcus that will surprise you. This mystery book takes many twists and turns throughout the book and will keep you guessing right until the end. For me it was a very satisfying end to the case and look forward to the K-team's next case. Bravo David Rosenfelt and thanks for opening me up to reading, actually listening to audiobooks in the future.🇨🇦🥰👍👏🤗🐕
