Gladie and Spencer have the perfect marriage. Or do they? Lately, Spencer has been spending a lot of time with the sexy owner of a new pie shop in town. He also changed his cologne, and he’s been giving his hair more attention than normal. Gladie is furious…and worried. When she’s offered a chance at a major makeover from a local plastic surgeon, she decides to take it in order to give the sexy pie shop owner a run for her money. But before Gladie can get refreshed, the plastic surgeon winds up dead, and now Gladie has been swept up in the town’s dangerous scar wars.
Scar Wars is the third book in the Matchmaker Marriage Mysteries, the continuing adventures of Gladie Burger with all of the regular characters from the Matchmaker Mysteries. It’s perfect for fans of Miss Fortune, Stephanie Plum, and small-town, funny mysteries.
Matchmaker Marriage Mysteries…sometimes love comes with a few dead ends.
Elise Sax worked as a journalist for fifteen years, mostly in Paris, France. She took a detour from journalism and became a private investigator before trying her hand at writing fiction. She lives in Southern California with her two sons. An Affair to Dismember is her first novel.
Have you ever seen a TikTok video, or YouTube video, of a guy riding a bike that looked like a horse? Well find it because Vigilante Cowboy is that guy! Who is that? Just read this book. Sax is a magician when it comes to bringing the craziest and most ridiculously real things to life in her books. It adds to Gladie’s distractions when she’s doing Spencer’s job of finding killers. Gladie has a certain knack for finding bodies, pulling a Columbo and finding the killer. Meanwhile the town is under attack and Elon Musk the goat is slipping through fingers. If we lived in Cannes, CA there would be constant entertainment. I truly adore this series for it’s humor, mystery and uniqueness. I’ve written this review honestly after reading an early copy.
Gladie and Spencer are back again and as usual, Gladie is right in the thick of the trouble in their poor town. First, she breaks Spencer's ankle when she falls and he catches her. Then, Spence has a perfect new female 'friend' who is always around for no reason. It just gets better from there. Hard to read a story so funny and ridiculous without your neighbors thinking you're crazy when you burst out laughing while sitting on your porch and reading!!! As always===Can't wait for the next one!!!
Great story. Always a little quirky and unique but a humorous story all around. This series had been getting old for me but the author seems to have gotten a fresh outlook. All your favorite characters and impossible situations created in small town America.
Gladie, Spencer and the zany cast of townsfolk are back an better than ever. Can it be that someone other than Gladys has turned Spencer's head? Elise Sax always has the propensity to make sure that when you read her novels, you receive an mystery and an adventure will leave you in stitches. One of my favorite aspects of the novel is the love/hate friendship between Ruth and Gladie. We are fortunate enough to have a front row seat to see their relationship transition from disdain into a place of organizational chaos and a newfound place of real respect and admiration for one another.
I am so glad that the author brought these characters back. This book had me laughing from start to finish. Rats, broken legs, cheese sculptures, and the possibility that Spencer might be cheating. ( I have to admit I never really liked Spencer anyway). Oh and of course Gladys finds a dead body so there is that too. For me the murder is the weakest part of the story but with everything else going on it really didn't bother me. Can't wait for the next book.
This book is funny and has a mystery too. It takes right off at the start and doesn’t disappoint. Elise Sax is a good writer. Besides the humor their is a love story and Gladie can see things. Her grandmother can see things too. She tells her on a sunny day to take an umbrella, she takes it. They call this their third eye.
SOOOO much fun! Gladie and Spencer are the perfect couple or at least perfect for each other. The descriptions are vivid that make it easy to imagine what the author is trying to get across. Definitely laugh out loud moments!
Elise Sax is brilliant!! Her characters are well developed and hilarious! Absolutely love all the books in this series and can’t wait for the next one to come out!
Another laugh out loud installment with Gladie and her knack for solving mysteries. Gladie feels Spencer might trading her in for a younger model so seeks the help of plastic surgeon. Who ends up dead and Gladie’s Miss Marple senses are tingling! All the quirky fun I come to expect from Ms. Sax and her imaginary town of Cannnes!
