J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.
After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.
So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.
She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.
This boxed set was filled with everything you want and need to keep you riveted. This needs to be read in order and has another boxed set to follow. I cannot get enough of these guys!
Unbelievable! Truly and utterly unbelievable! J. A. Huss is brilliant! These books and this group draw you into a world you just can't help but be in the moment with them all the way through. I wanted to go back to the beginning, after reading the Misters, to emerse myself, and I was not disappointed! I gasped, laughed, had my heart racing, cried and was right there through it all with Rook, Ronin, Spencer and Ford. And then later when Veronica, Ashleigh, and sweet baby Kate decided to join the party.
Rook makes your heart bleed. She's so damn strong but doesn't see it after the hell she lived through. It took balls to go through that and come through the other side. Her meeting Ronin was just fate waiting to happen. And that pretty boy sure as hell isn't what you expect. Ronin may be Fiona in Rook's eyes, but Ronin has layers; just like Shrek! And damn, can he bring the sexy! Even when he's the lying front man!
When Spencer appears you think this will be the trouble for Rook and Ronin's budding romance, but Spencer is the best friend everyone wishes for. His secrets are there. You can all most touch them. But you just know Ronin's alert of those secrets somewhere, and that's when the itch to know what's up. But until you meet their best friend Ford, you can't begin to understand what's going on.
And Ford! Damn that guy! He had me from the moment he sat down with Rook at Cookies! He's sexy smart and so ready to be loved. He makes your heart just ache. You can't help but fall for Ford. And let me tell ya, he had me sobbing for him, cheering him on, and hoping he can win Ashleigh and be Kates daddy.
Then there's the Bombshell! Veronica is a little crazy, but in order to keep up with Spencer, she needs to be. But in order to understand just how perfect she is for Spencer, you have to read. Then you see the magic. The crazy-over-top love story that just belongs to Spencer and Ronnie. Even with all hell breaking loose around them.
Throughout out it all, J. A. only gives you well placed bites. She just keeps you hooked. Waiting for you to make the discoveries. Knowing you're all most ready for the whole explosion. And it's a big one. One you can't forget, or even want too. And worth being with these guys during the ride!
Tragic Review: Tragic is okay. Rook has a rough that she has survived. I like Rook and strength. Ronin just annoyed me. He has a job to protect the girls but in my opinion he is a little lacking in that area. He sees Rook has issues with trust and control but still does crap to push her buttons. I found that very sad. Ronin says it of her own good. I found it controlling. I did not find any suspense in Tragic just a lot of Rook's issues with control.
Manic Review: This one is a little better than Tragic but not much. There is still too much repetition. Both Ronin and Rook say the same things. Ronin says he wants to marry Rook and have children and he won't pressure Rook. Yet that's all he does is pressure Rook. Rook just keeps stringing Ronin and Ford along. She wants her cake and eat it too. She keeps going back and forth about doing the contract with Spencer being the best thing and a bad thing. It all becomes annoying. There was more suspense and what the ex will do, it just too long to get too it.
Panic Review: It's basically the same as the first two books. Rook is scared and wants to be independence. Rook has secrets and is scared her ex will find her. I found the fact Rook is not doing anything to hide where she is from her ex. Ronin is pushing for a family and a baby, he says he is not pressuring Rook yet that's all he does. There is more of Ford trying to force Rook to be with him. The fact neither Ford or Ronin are trying to protect Rook. They don't ask her what does she want. I just shake my head at Ford and Ronin I find them both clueless.
Slack Review: This is just a setup novella for Taut. It's okay nothing new just Ford being a whinny baby.
Taut Review: Yes there is a lot of repetition but I really liked get to know Ford, I liked see what makes him tick. There was some suspense and drama. I figured out a couple of things from the beginning. In my opinion J.A. Huss did a pretty good job of conveying Ashleigh's sadness. Ford was annoying as far as his arrogance and how he think's he is smarter than everybody else. When the chips were down he came through.
Bomb Review: All this is the meeting of Veronica and Spencer. It sets up the book Guns. I enjoyed it but Spencer is just a giant stalker in my opinion.
Guns Review: Too much repetition from Bomb. In my opinion all the past was not needed. I appreciated Spencer wanting to protect Veronica but I didn't like how he keep hurting her intentional and nonintentional. I loved Veronica she is loud, fun and loyal. I figured out most everything just not the how. There was more suspense in Guns.
In my opinion this boxed set is not worth it. It lacked suspense I look for, it also dragged on and on. I read on Kindle Unlimited.
Ok, I’m just reviewing this series as a whole because honestly I read them all back to back in this box set so reviewing them separately is just too hard. I loved Ronin from the beginning. He has a hero complex and just wanted to rescue Rook from her past life. But he’s sweet and takes his time with her. Rook is good. I like her too even though I still don’t understand her penchant for running from Ronin and Ford and Spencer. But in the end it all makes sense. My favorite was Ford. I love his idiosyncrasies and his need for control. I love how protective he is even before he knows the entire story of Ashleigh’s last. I love that he’s jealous of Tony before he knows the story. I love that he loves Kate. I love that he takes care of his team. And Spencer and Veronica. I have a soft spot for Spencer. He did what he thought was best for Veronica. He loved her so deeply. This series was great. I can’t wait to start the next boxed set.
This series was just amazing. Not what I was expecting, but everything I didn't know I wanted. So. Much. Action. Through each book. And the freaking chemistry...wow...melt my kindle and someone get me an airbrush machine! Enjoyed Rook and Ronin's story, and really the entire team dynamic. But Ford. Ford was everything. Felt all the emotions. The helplessness, the angst, the fear, the longing, the passion,, the confusion, all that freaking love! I went through the wringer with these characters and I will not forget them anytime soon. Read this series!
After reading another book, connected to the series I had to go back to the beginning and read from the start. I've loved every minute and in every story these characters just got better and better. I adore Rook, Ronin, Spencer, Ronnie and Ash but oh my god Ford Aston is something else. I totally fell in love with that special snowflake. His story was my fave of them all. Amazing series from start to finish. Now I need to start on the rest that take my back to Vic where I started the journey getting to know these characters.
I’ve read all these books on kindle unlimited, except for ‘Bomb’. And because these characters intrigue me and I can’t get enough J A H, I decided to purchase the Rook and Ronin box set, along with The Company box set, to re read from the beginning. I didn’t read ‘Bomb’ before because Spencer Shrike was the least interesting character for me. But I did it right this time and I’m so glad! If you haven’t tried this author before, jump right in. You won’t regret it!!
The series starts fairly innocuously with Tragic, then stories of characters' pasts start to unfold as the series progresses into the other books. Tragic, Manic and Panic focus mainly on Rook and Ronin, but Ford and Spencer figure prominently since the two grew up with Ronin. This author creates complex characters that blend so well into the stories she weaves. For added enjoyment, listen to the audiobooks because the characters come to life even more!
I can go to bed now. I haven’t slept well this last week because I couldn’t put this book down. I read tragic first then decided to read from the beginning and I wasn’t disappointed. I wanted to slap Spencer stupid at times 😂 men can be so dense 😂 Ford naught out my maternal instincts and I wanted to hug him. Ronin is how I would have liked my son to have been. All the characters were so perfectly floored and believable.
Loved this first box set. I had already read Viscous, however it didn't detract too much from this seriesbut if you get the chance read this first. Well developed plot, characters that you will love (even Ford 😉), sexy romance and enough humour to entertain the reader. An exciting and well written series..

This series is a very different one to the Brothers. A more light hearted but still deep look into subjects like domestic abuse, still birth, lies, psychological damage and self esteem. I particularly enjoyed the Bombs phobia of blood and germs, so funny for a tattoo artist.
I absolutely LOVED this series! JA Huss is a MASTER in creating a world here with compelling characters and a mind-bending plot with the Company—it drew me into its spell and had me reading into the wee hours of the morning. All of these books are fantastic in their own right, it’s a great bonus that they’re all together in this boxed series.
I feel like reading these books, I had every emotion the characters did. It was definitely a lively feeling! I recommend definitely if you love to get into so many different scenarios it's like a roller coaster
What a brilliant set of books. Read them all back to back. Wish i had read Rook and Ronin before The Mister Men. I am fascinated by Ford and love Spencer Shrike. Cant wait to continue my journey with Julie Huss.
These books are amazing. This series is amazing. This author is truly amazing. A true mind@#%. So many twists and turns. Suspenseful. Exciting. Sexy. The women are hot and the men are hotter. Holy hell.
I loved this team. All of them were amazing. I read the mister series first and then came back to this one. I’d recommend reading these first and then the mister series. This author is amazing.
It took me a little while to get into this series but I'm so glad I persevered. Each book was well written and the characters are really likeable although a bit naughty. I was a bit sad to get to the end.
I can't see any of my group reading this genre, but, I thought it was superb. Characters, life stories, interwoven lives. Kept me eagerly reading each new chapter. Avidly invested in their lives. Cannot wait to read Five, Princess and Kate's stories.
Quick read.Pulls you in right away. Engaging characters. Plot twists aplenty. And very steamy. Enjoyed emensly.I would highly recommend to get lost in from this crazy world.
I liked these books a lot they are funny, shocking and keep you guessing right to the end . I love the characters and how all thier lives are intertwined
I am so glad I fell into JA Huss’s books. I read the Misters first, so have gone back to read about their parents. They are so good, so hard to put down.
