Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.

Caroline Wright is one part ordered editor and one part wandering artist. These qualities, along with an insatiable appetite, combine to support her food editorial career as a cook, author and stylist.

During college in Paris, she fell in love with the rebellious attitude of her friends who adapted their nation's culinary traditions, without sacrificing skill or technique, to make the experience of eating and cooking more approachable. That irreverent but practical space is still present in Caroline’s most favorite projects, fueling imaginative recipes that hold beautiful and tasty food as the standard. Formal training at La Varenne cooking school introduced Caroline to the culinary language and skill she honed as a food editor at Martha Stewart’s Everyday Food for two years. For the following decade, Caroline worked from her home kitchen in Brooklyn and various test kitchens in New York as a freelance food editor, stylist and busy cook.

In addition to her work as a cookbook author, Caroline collaborates with photographers and editors as a recipe developer, food stylist and culinary writer. Caroline is constantly exploring unexpected ways to serve comfort in every recipe, story or photo she makes, so follow along as she plays with her food, here and here. Caroline lives in Seattle with her husband and two boys.

Having read a LOT of these alphabet books recently, I would have to say that this is one of my favorites. Great connection between the words and the letters and I like the story that is woven through the letters - and there's a recipe at the back! Major points for that.

B IS FOR BROWNIES is a cute alphabet book about baking. The little bakers are working together to bake in this clever, rhyming alphabet board book. The end of the book includes a recipe for beginner brownies (only 5 ingredients!) for little bakers to try their hand at a recipe. This seems like a simple one, though it doesn't specify the pan size.

What I loved: This is a clever trip through the alphabet with a theme of baking, filled with rhymes. The rhyming text creates a great rhythm for reading aloud that really rolls off the tongue. The illustrations are simple but quite cute, with varied skin colors for the bakers that is great to see. The anthropomorphized Mitt is also really cute to find throughout.

What left me wanting more: As per most alphabet books, this one struggles with a few letters. The particularly challenging ones are "X is for don't eat yet" and "Z is for Zzzzz" (which is a really common one for Z but does not give that phonetic sound).

Final verdict: With rhyming text and bright colors, B IS FOR BROWNIES is a cute walk through the alphabet around baking. Just don't read this one hungry!

Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

This baking-themed concept board book teaches the uppercase letters of the English alphabet a-to-z.

A brownie recipe is included at the end.

The letters of the alphabet as well as the example words are presented in uppercase. Because 90% of print is in lowercase, it is actually more beneficial to teach pre-readers and beginning readers the alphabet in lowercase or show both upper- and lowercase.

Cute alphabet book for kids! You can practice letter sound association when you read it to your pre-reading child, or up the rigor by following the sequential order of baking, and then observe text purposes with the procedural recipe in the back. Engaging for all levels!

4.5 stars rounded up.

The brownie *recipe* is delicious! It’s more on the fudgey side, and one of my new favorite brownie recipes. Big bonus: it’s easy to make with children!

My kid really likes it, but it isn’t one of his all time favorite books. I love how it’s an ABC book that tells a fun story, and creates new connections with letters and sounds. We’ve had fun with it. I recommend it to anyone who likes easy recipes and likes baking with their kids.

I loved the choices for the letters! It told a story one letter at a time - the alphabetic order didn't contrain the storytelling. And I'm looking forward to trying the recipe. Even if it doesn't work out, what a cool way to introduce baking to little kids.

Our copy had a publisher's misprint, letters reiterated/out of order. Letters missing. Cute otherwise and has a real recipe
