The three of us were never impossible. We were always inevitable.
When Drew meets Ezra, he doesn’t expect much. A one-night stand and a quick goodbye in the morning. That’s how these things usually go. Only there’s nothing usual about Ezra and the connection that forms between them.
When Ezra meets Drew, he doesn’t expect much. A distraction and parting as strangers after a night of meaningless fun. That’s how these things usually go. Only there’s nothing meaningless about Drew and the relentless spark between them that just refuses to disappear.
When Bas meets Ezra… things get complicated. As if being hopelessly in love with his best friend isn't painful enough. Throw in an unexpected friendship that develops with the one-time hookup of said best friend, and the results are messy at best.
But sometimes beautiful things emerge from messy and complicated beginnings, and where two isn't enough, three might be just perfect.
Briar Prescott is a work in progress. She swears too much, doesn’t eat enough leafy greens and binge watches too much television. It’s okay, though. One of these days she'll get a hang of that adulting thing. Probably. Maybe. She hopes.
Such a beautiful book!!!❤️ I really appreciated the tone shift in this one from Briar’s Better With You series and another of her books - Project Hero. Still love those but it was cool to see a different style from Briar. This was a bit more serious than those I mentioned but there was still so much warmth and levity to be found. I haven’t read that many romances containing three people but if you’re like me and don’t read many - I really recommend starting with this one! Drew, Bas and Ezra are so easy to love. I really enjoyed seeing them work out how their three person relationship would work and it felt realistic. There were insecurities and jealousies to work through. There was anger and frustration at times. Ezra makes a point to mention how each of them have to actively work on their relationship with another individual in the relationship for the entire three person relationship to be sustainable. I tend to not read a lot of poly romances because I feel bad when I feel like someone is getting left out in a poly romance but I feel like that didn’t happen here. These guys were excellent communicators who worked through their issues to make sure that wasn’t the case ever and that everyone was included and felt important and INTEGRAL to the relationship. And it showed! It felt very equal. Also also ALSO *SPOILER* Hell yeah to homophobic and judge mental parents and family members being left behind!!! 🎉 I really REALLY thought we were going to do the whole TIRED and WRETCHED forgiveness routine and it made me so sad. I took a *very short* break from the book because I get sooo exhausted of the whole sentiment that’s often peddled in books / shows / movies / LIFE?????? that your family can treat you like garbage and dispose of you like said garbage but in the end…you should forgive (if they could be so kind to have you in their life)!!! Because!!! Because family!!! Fuck that. They didn’t deserve Drew. Nor did they deserve to know his partners. That got a big hooray from me.🥳 Anyways!!! Love this one!!!❤️
I’m so late in this party, because I rarely want to read mmm. But I needed something lighter after a heavy read and I always can count on Briar’s books. It was everything I needed and more. I was ready for the good dialogues, funny banter and some angst less romances and above those I got a fabulous plot with amazing characters and maybe a new favorite character, Ezra:) I hadn’t got bored for a minute, the story flow so easily and still could be meaningful. Highly recommended!
Do you know what was Inevitable about this book? That Briar Prescott would write a beautiful and unconventional love story that takes hold of your heart and won't let go.
The navigation of a relationship with just two people is complicated enough, but throw in a third, add in one of the MCs being Ace and two of them being best friends who've been in love without ever acknowledging it for half their lives and you could have had a right mess.
Instead, what Briar gives the reader is an organically developed and cleverly paced narrative that takes them on a journey alongside Bas, Drew and Ezra as what they each bring to the other proves to be the catalyst for taking chances.
There is some angst, it would be unbelievable if there weren't doubts, fears and occasional stumbles, but a lot of the tension is caused by events outside of their relationship.
But, for me, everything about the way they came together just made sense, they fit and Ezra acted as the glue between Bas and Drew which let them finally let loose on their love.
It's not particularly steamy, there is a wonderfully hot hook-up when Drew meets Ezra for the first time (he and Bas are not a couple, no cheating here just saying!) and there is one scene between the three of them after they've committed to being a throuple.
Both are emotionally connected and integral to the plot, not thrown in just to meet a quota, and they resonate with feelings. The Epilogue is just gorgeous and made me very happy.
#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review
So good❤ A book about 3 men who fit, find love, and forge a future together.
What I loved...
1. Drew: The handsome lawyer who is desperately in love with his best friend Bas. #BiggestHeart
2. Bas: The moody musical prodigy who is also in desperately in love with his best Friend Drew. #WhoAmIWithoutYou
3. Ezra: The college student and the man who brings them all together. #TheBestPartOfUs
4. Three men who balance each other out, each bringing something special to the relationship. #ItsUs
5. Angst-o-meter: Low angst. #BecauseImHappy
6. Romance and smiles.... #ThroughTheRoof
6. Steam-o-meter: Lowish steam and for good reason. I know that people would read MMM and low steam and would be like: DOES NOT COMPUTE. But it is for good reason, with the relationship takig center stage, and it's refreshing. #WhatWorksForUs
I don’t know how I feel about this book. First, I’ll say that I rarely like MMM stories. So maybe it’s me and not the book. I liked the three MCs. I loved the beginning, Drew and Ezra’s meeting, then Bad and Ezra’s meeting. The development of their friendship. The deep love between Bas and Drew.
But I didn’t feel like their relationship was inevitable. I felt like Bas and Drew were deeply in love and Ezra was a way to fix them and allow them to be together. Thankfully it evolved from there and by the end, I felt their love for each other. But I still wasn’t completely convinced.
And then the constant fighting got to me. I mean, couples fight, I get it, but it shouldn’t be that hard when you’re just starting a relationship. That’s the easy part. Fighting comes years later, when it’s the millionth time your SO leaves his dirty butter knife on the counter and not in the sink and you want to stab him with it. But I digress.
Let’s just say the book had a depressing tone a lot of the time. It’s almost like it started happy and uplifting and once they all got together it started being depressing. 🤷♀️
I don't usually read menage stories because I have some very particular standards about what the tropes and the relationships between the MCs should be like for it to work for me. But, every one in a while a blurb catches my interest and I decide to take a chance.
When I read the blurb for Inevitable, all those things were there, but, even so, this story was a surprise for me. From the first couple of chapters it pulled me in and I couldn't put the book down.
Drew, Bas and Ezra fitted together almost instantly, but they had a few issues to overcome before they could be together. So this isn't insta-love, extra points! It actually takes place in the span of about six months and I love it when the timeline is spread out in a book!
The fact that Bas was ace was a nice surprise and it made the story more emotional, as he was battling with himself about his importance in the relationship.
I liked the way Briar Prescott portrayed him. He was very self aware and in sync with himself. He was comfortable with who he was, he knew what he liked and what he didn't like, what worked and what didn't. At the same time though, he was extremely insecure and afraid of being in a relationship with Drew and Ezra because of his sexual identity.
Some parts of the book were full of relationship angst and some others were light-hearted and funny. The three of them took their time becoming friends, learning one another and progressing gradually. There was a great deal of communication going on, but there were also fights and awkward moments.
As much as I liked the story as a whole, there were a couple of things that bothered me. For one, at some points the story almost felt like it was primarily about Ezra and then about Drew and Bas. It wasn't a big issue here because it didn't feel that way all the time and it wasn't particularly obvious, but I still got that impression at times and it frustrated me. That's one of the reasons I'm very particular about the menage books I read. Actually, that and when the relationship between two of the people involved seem more important or intimate that the rest, but that didn't happen here - hence my enjoyment of the book.
Another thing that bothered me, is that none of them appear to have much of a social circle. There is Drew's family and his boss, but that's about it. Other characters are mentioned, mainly family, but they don't appear on page - except from a brief scene with a professor -, and none of them seem to have any friends, aside from each other. It's a pet peeve of mine when the MCs seem to exist in a bubble.
The good things though outweighed the bad by far. It's a trope that I don't like easily, but this time it hit the mark with remarkable accuracy. I don't think that's the last I'll read from this author.
This was by all means an absolute beautiful poly romance about three men who only together made sense and felt whole.
Unfortunately and unknowingly a few things collided hard with my personal reading preferences so I simply didn’t end up loving it. It just wasn’t the right book for me.
But I can imagine, a lot of you will eat it up and love it:
💚 ace-rep 🩵 best friends to lovers 💙 longing and pining 💚 slow burn 🩵 tender love 💙 hurt/comfort 💚 low on the smut
As for the end, I loved how far they’d come. But right before that, the issue with Drew’s family sucked donkey balls. As well as Bas’s willingness to sacrifice his own happiness for that of mainly Drew’s but Ezra’s as well. *hard eye roll
Welp ... I've busted my throuple cherry 🥴 and it was freakin' AWESOME! 🥰🥰🥰 This is my second Briar Prescott book, after Project Hero, and both checked every single box and scratched every single itch for me. Can't be done better! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
3,25 stars. A good mmm romance is not easy to write, because the author has to make sure that there's a balance between all three men. Bas and Drew had been best friends since forever, living together for years. Then Drew had a one night stand with Ezra. The 3 of them met weeks later per chance. I loved how long it took all 3 of them to know what they wanted between them, there was no rushing the plot along, thankfully.
Adding to the mmm plot the fact that one of the 3 men is asexual (Bas), I thought the difficult part would be for the author to get me to believe that all 3 of them feel equally loved and cherished, despite not enjoying sex the same way. I was sure this would be the tricky part for me. Yet Briar Prescott convinced me that Ezra and Drew made Bas feel that he was loved and a necessary part of their relationship. I admit feeling on the edge for the longest time, fearing there would be an imbalance because of sex, but in the end what threw me was the emotional imbalance between the 3 men.
Drew and Bas had loved each other forever without acting on it, all 3 men talked about their feelings and about the importance of honesty, but in the last third of the book, when they should have gotten stronger as partners, Bas and Drew again and again acted without talking about their motives, they were hurtful towards each other (knowing how deeply they could hurt the other with their words, having known each other for so long) and always needed Ezra to act calm and as a buffer between them, to smooth things over. I get that Ezra's role in their shared relationship should have been cemented by this, but in the end his calmness and the fact that Drew didn't have to go without sex because Ezra was their third, felt like the sum of what Ezra brought in the relationship. I didn't feel the connection between Drew and Bas anymore, and Ezra felt like a tool.
Last: I hate all plot twists involving selfish, ignorant, holier-than-thou family members, and this sadly had lots of these kind of family related issues.
Review and rating to come. I know I’ve said that for several of my last books and have yet to follow through. But I haven’t been in the mood most of the time. And with ones like this, I have conflicting feelings. Also part of me feels like because I’ve been in such a Crabby Patty book mood lately, I don’t want to take it out on this book. What the heck is going on with me? Or is it me? Or is it sometimes me and sometimes the book? So I need to sit on this for a bit. For now, I’ll say that I loved a thing or two, liked some things and didn’t care for a few parts. Vague much? 😂🤷🏻♀️😭
ALL THE STARS!! Inevitable had all the trade marks I've come to expect of Briar Prescott but it's still something completely new from her. I loved Ezra, Bas and Drew. Longer review to come.
I kept avoiding this book because MMM does not always work for me and I adore Briar Prescott's writing, so I did not want to be disappointed. Well, that wasn't necessary. This book was so we'll written, the characters were very interesting and I loved the chemistry. 5 stars!
This book popped my MMM cherry, and literally how dare it be so wholesome and lovely.
THE PREMISE: when the one night stand meets the codependent bestie, and everyone just .. hits it off.
TROPES & VIBES: - Lots of hurt x comfort - Codependency, but make it adorable - These three are literally so cute - Families being shitty - Ace rep - The slowburn had me reading 58% in a night
I liked this. Didn't love it, though. I wanted more .... something? A bit more angst, maybe? Or a struggle of some sort just to give the story some umph. I did love how Bas's asexuality was handled, though. Their relationship, once it got going, seemed to just be smooth sailing, except when . I didn't find Drew's family situation to be angsty, per se, and I never felt like he owed them anything since they pretty much threw him away, but Drew trying to patch things up was admirable. I just wish I could have connected more.
These three are soooooo fucking bland to me and I have read quite a lot of trios already. They didn’t really feel like lovers. More of bros/homies living together with a bit cuddling here and there. And the lack of sexual tension!! There was nothing there. Bland as my sister’s unseasoned scrambled eggs. Please please leave the MMM trope to Riley Hart.
I loved this story! It’s the only way I could see a throuple working! I loved all three main characters but Ezra was definitely my favorite! 5 stars all the way!
No soy muy fan de los threesomes, siempre me dejan descontenta cómo los autores desarrollan sus historias de amor, normalmente de forma muy superficial. Pero, este me ha gustado mucho, recomendable.
Briar Prescott again delivered an excellent, beautifully written story. I could not put this book down. It grabbed me from the first page and I couldn't let go until I read 'The End'. It's not your typical MMM, if I may say so. Without giving too much away, this book is mainly character driven, a true romance, with every feeling that comes with falling in love. Add the fact that the falling in love involves three men, and things get more complicated. But the way Briar handled this story, the way it was written was just perfect. I haven't read many MMM books (yet), but I get the feeling this one is very special in that matter. It wasn't about the sex and the hot scenes; if you want to read MMM for those, you won't find them here. There's only one hot scene that involves all three, but honestly, you don't miss the actual sex, because there is so much love and tension and wanting and needing going on, that it's no requirement to get the scenes in the bedroom to enjoy this story anyway.
Bas and Drew have known each other since highschool and have been best friends since. They are attached to the hip, so to speak. They live together in Drew's apartment, they love and care for each other deeply. Yet, they are not in a romantic relationship. Bas believes he is not enough for Drew, because Drew would want things he, being asexual, can't give him. But Drew loves Bas so much, he can't imagine a life without him in it. He only does hookups because he can't find himself falling for someone else when he has been in love with Bas for almost all of his life. Until he meets Ezra. What's supposed to be a one night stand, turns into so much more when they accidentally meet again. And when Bas meets Ezra and likes him and sees how happy he makes Drew, they need to find a way to make them work.
Witnessing how their relationships grow, how they grow as a person and how friendship becomes more, was a beautiful ride. It felt organic and never rushed or unbelievable. Their love felt so real, their insecurities, their struggle to make it work. But there was a lot of talking, a lot of understanding between the three of them. Ezra truly was the missing piece to Drew's and Bas's complicated puzzle.
There was so much to love about this story; the characters, all the feelings that came with them. They all three have had their share of problems in the past, which make them even more determined to make this work. And the outside world will judge, because they won't understand. But this story teaches us that love doesn't always fit within the rules of society's 'normality'. It's what you feel is good for yourself, what you need to be happy and when that happens, society's rules don't matter. Even if it comes with a high price, as is in Drew's case.
I love how Briar Prescott writes these different stories and always delivers an exceptional book. She's such a talented author and ever since I read Project Hero (her debut), she has become an auto-buy author to me. She sweeps me right off my feet every time I read her latest book, but I have to admit that this book is my favorite so far. Just read it, you won't regret it, I promise.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest, unbiased review
This MMM book was so emotional and beautifully written. When I read polyamorous books, I’m often nervous that one MC will be left out. In this book, Briar wrote a story where the three men had their insecurities, but also each brought something unique to the relationship that created a balance.
“Stay. Please,” Drew whispered. His gaze moved from Ezra to Bas and back to Ezra. “Please,” he repeated. “It’s us. Not me and Bas. Not me and you. It’s us. I want us.”
Ezra was introduced as someone with a prickly attitude in the beginning that was mostly due to his circumstances. Once he gained confidence in himself and his place, he became the voice of reason in the relationship. He had a good hear, but could also voice some harsh truths when the other guys weren’t being reasonable.
I loved Drew’s character and how sure he was in what he wanted. His family situation was difficult to read, and it pissed me off more than once. I loved how both Ezra and Bas rallied to protect him when he needed them to.
Bas had a lot of insecurities about who he is, and I wanted him to realize his worth so bad 😫… Both Drew and Ezra loved him more than anything, but he still dealt with feelings of inferiority and it was heartbreaking at times.
It was a beautiful story of longing, love and acceptance 🥰.
Everything locked into place. This. This was what Drew had been searching for. This was what he’d been missing. This was home and hope and love.
It was a really nice story. At times more sweet than I expected, but that's okay.
I really liked all three main characters, and I really wanted them to build a happy relationship. I like how they are different and yet they fit together so well. Each of them is truly unique. I think what I liked the most was how Ezra changed. He initially has the strongest personality of the three. He doesn't trust people and is almost aggressive. But being in a relationship with the other two guys, he becomes the most cohesive element and mediator between Bas and Drew. This is a very interesting transformation.
I'm not entirely convinced of this whole family situation of Drew. This thread seemed to me at the same time insufficiently developed and unnecessary. Or maybe one was due to the other. This plotline was probably a good idea, but it would have to be much more elaborate to work as an additional drama. And as it is, it is something not fully thought out for me.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book and wasn't sure if it was a story for me. But while I probably won't remember this book in a while, it was a good story. I had no major problems believing in the deep feelings between the main characters and I think they fit together pretty well.
Drew and Bas have been best friends since childhood. They have been stuck in this sort of relationship where they are more than friends but not quite together.
Bas is ace and has never thought of giving their relationship a chance. He is afraid that by taking that step he may ruin what they have. However, holding back is putting a strain on their relationship too.
They both now after 20 years like this something has to change and fortunately it does. It seems their relationship was missing a piece and that piece comes in the form of a struggling college student named Ezra.
I really enjoyed this story. It is low steam and low angst. The only issue I have to nitpick at is with the POVs. I didn't mind it being 3 POVs, I just kind of found it a bit annoying when I could not tell who's mine I was in. There were slip ups where we would be in one MCs head and for sec in another's for it to only switch back to the originals. Other than that it was fine. I really do enjoy this author's writing.
5⭐️ Loved this. I’m sort of new to MMM and I wondered how she was going to fit these 3 men together have it be believable and romantic. And man, did she deliver. Ezra, Bas, and Drew fit together seamlessly. I also love the Asexual rep with Bas’s character. It really cemented this as a passionate romance story and not erotica. There was a lot of emotion and angst and a bit of jealousy as the men figured things out. It was so real that it had me glued to the page. Could not put this book down. A definite must-read.
For those that have read and loved her Until You, this one is very different, she leaves out the banter/humor in favor of stronger emotions. But I think it worked well.
Bas and Drew have been best friends for so many years and both were secretly in love with each other most of that time. The key to unlock that secret love turned out to be a person named Ezra. He bridged the gap and made them see things that Bas and Drew had not wanted to face.
All 3 come with their own set of baggage. The most frustrating being Drew’s relationship with his family. They want him to conform or he loses them forever. I have always found the emphasis on blood family to be overrated. Found family is the best family. Cut out the toxic relationships. You will be better off, always. Drew’s struggle to realize this lesson puts the whole relationship in jeopardy. It’s a bit frustrating and annoying tbh.
They make it through and there’s an HEA but...if you are thinking MMM...there is going to be many sexy times.. well there isn’t. That was a bit..disappointing. I like shared intimacy with all 3 characters participating and while there was one instance of that.. That wasn’t enough to really gel them as I would have liked. One characters was asexual, true but they still could have shown more times with them all together. That part really fell flat for me.
The characters are well written though and you really get that they really work as 3. They really rely on each other. The love and trust is there and you feel it as you read. The connection.
When I'm looking for a book to read, I don't generally go looking for MMM. If it's an author I like, and the blurb sounds appealing, I'll read it - not because I have anything against MMM, I'm just not generally into poly relationships. In this case, I've enjoyed all three of Briar Prescott's books, so I jumped at the chance to get an advance copy of Inevitable, and I'm glad I did. The story develops naturally, as do the relationships among the men. I believe their interactions and connections, and I appreciate the time it took to develop among all of them. I shed a few tears, but not too many, I laughed, and I cheered for the success of this relationship. If you're looking for wall-to-wall sex, you won't find it here, but if you're looking for intimate relationships that include sex, I'm betting you'll be as satisfied as I was.
This was such an emotional and heartbreaking romance. It was filled with so much longing and love and there were elements that tore me to pieces. MMM can be challenging, to say the least, but this one wasn't overly complicated, it never felt forced and it was beautiful in execution.
All 3 men were unique in their personalities and individual challenges. They complimented each other so well. I loved the endless support but I also really appreciated how the author never made it feel like it was toxically positive. They faced obstacles, they argued, they felt weak, they felt isolated but they always came back together. They communicated and encouraged each other.
This was not a spicy book but what wasn't present in heat was made up for by the powerful connections between Ezra, Bas and Drew. They found a home with each other, all their pieces fit together. I cried, I swooned, I fell in love!!
Asexual-a person who has no sexual feelings or desires, or who is not sexually attracted to anyone
Drew and Bas have been friends since they were kids. Drew feels like he’s loved Bas all that time. Bas loves Drew, he just isn’t attracted to him (or anyone). He knows it hurts Drew but he just doesn’t know what to do about it. Enter Ezra, a hot one night stand that Drew can’t forget. When they all meet, something is set in motion that will have each man thinking about a future together.
I liked how the author took a difficult subject (asexuality) and wove it into a joyous story of three men finding love. Each man had a distinct personality which stood out. I think would be hard to write that way as thoughts and actions blend so much in a relationship.
There was some angst as each man wondered how they would make life together work. Also Drew’s homophobic family caused problems.
