The contract says I have to get fake-married to a Witlocke. It doesn't say which Witlocke. Apparently, any stuck-up jerk whose last name begins with W and ends with E will do. Oops, was that my out loud voice? Enter my nemesis, sinfully sexy tech mogul Donovan. We’ve been mortal enemies since third grade, but he’s all too willing to meet me at the altar, for reasons he refuses to share with me. Whatever he's planning for me, it can’t be good. The last time I saw him is when my family let loose a bunch of attack geese at his sister’s wedding. And he’s only gotten hotter – and snarkier - since then. Deep breaths. I can do this. Sign on the dotted line, and I’ll save my aunt’s vineyard. We just have to stay married until the end of the summer. But a lot can happen in a summer.A dropped towel can lead to unexpected consequences. Snarky sparring can end in steamy kissing. Hidden truths can be revealed under an ancient oak tree. Hearts can melt. And someone can fall in love with the last man on earth who’d want ‘forever’. Wait, that wasn’t in the contract…
I'm willing to give a story its premise. In this case, a horribly contrived and kind of stupid marriage of convenience invocation. I mean, the families involved in this feud are squalid and the whole motivation of infusing a bunch of failing businesses with cash is one of life's dumber motivations but hey, people do that (because people are stupid). What I can't get past is that Donovan is a giant jerk/idiot (jerkiot, I know I've used this before. Welcome back, stupid made-up word. I hope this isn't a habit). He has betrayed Sienna multiple times in the past by breaking truce (convincing her to give him a chance and then throwing it in her face and rubbing it in). And there's a hint that he's actually sincere in the truce part, but then gives in to his stupid family feud to betray her and I just can't with that guy. It's one thing when you're ten. It's another as you get older and repeat the pattern.
And I could almost buy into that as a premise to work past if... If Donovan wasn't spending all of his time (as far as I got) poking and antagonizing Sienna in really horrible ways. He's pushing her face in every time she turns around. So it's not like he's trying to make up for his past douchebaggery or trying to do anything but give a hate-hate relationship the best-possible foundation.
Oh. Also the antagonist reporter chick is a cliché wrapped in contrivance buried in authorial intrusion. There's already enough hate in this story between the two "protagonists". I don't need more layered on top.
So I'm out and wish I had that couple of hours back...
Oh my heavens what a fun and laugh out loud read. I am not sure why I have not read all of Kenzie's books but I am certainly a fan girl now. We have heard of so many family feuds in the past some of the most famous being the Hatfield and McCoy's and the Montague and the Capulet's but may I introduce the Witlocke and the Ribaldi families. It is a fight that has spanned decades and pulled to many people into it made their lives a living hell. They each run wineries, live in the same town and their children share the same friends. Donovan Witlocke and Sienna Ribaldi have know one another since they are ten and even with family squabbles looming over them they have always been pulled toward one another. It is now time for a truce and a wedding is needed between the families to save their wineries, their livelihoods and their future. When the chosen Witlocke groom is found getting busy with the maid of honor Donovan seems to be in the right place and the right time to take the place in front of the justice of the peace. Is it fate or so much more? Sienna cannot believe that she has to marry the boy that broke her heart. Although the man in front of her may be more dangerous and swoon worthy than that boy ever was. Sienna and Donovan now find themselves binned in a marriage of convivence but when they are forced to live, work and play together the lines soon become blurred and a bit steamy. This was a fabulously fun story filled with family drama/antics, a bit of mystery, a whole lot of witty sassy banter and oh yes a lot of steam! ~~Michele McMullen ~~
Enemies to lovers with hilarious side characters. An age old feud where no one can remember why it started and a property deal that only goes through with a marriage between the feuding families.
Add in pets with crazy names and quirky side characters…I loved this!!
Honestly, I didn’t like the characters and I didn’t like the story. It was super messy and just made the female mc look like she was an idiot even though they were trying to make her look strong and independent. I won’t be going out of my way to read anything else this author has written, but I also won’t add it to my top 20 worst reads of the year.
3.5 stars. This is the first book I read from this author and definitely not the last. I truly enjoyed her writing. It was a fun book that I breezed through it.
This book was quite enjoyable. The characters were well developed. The pace moved along well. I absolutely loved Donovan. I liked Sienna, too, but not as much as Donovan.
Donovan has a few secrets and with at least one of those secrets, I would have melted when he finally told me if I were Sienna. She got angry about the other secrets and really overreacted. He ended up trying to win her back but he didn't do anything wrong other than not tell her and, originally, she was far more upset about the info than that he hadn't told her. I am not a fan of the men having to apologize first when women overreact. Sure, get mad, but eventually say you are still mad but it isn't important enough to split you apart. I've made a bigger deal about this in my explanation than needed but it is a pet peeve.
Both of them have aunts/uncles and cousins in addition to parents. Donovan had siblings. Other than the family members mentioned most often, I had a hard time keeping up with which family a character belonged to and, in one case, what generation they were.
I still would have given the book 5 stars except for all but the last chapter of the book, and a very small number of chapters that were smooth sailing between the two MCs, someone was constantly arguing. Sienna argues with her mom, her friends before the wedding, the final groom, a news reporter and the reporter's sister, and some randoms in town. Donovan argued less but did put people in their places from time to time and argued with his father a lot. The families were always arguing both internally and as part of the feud. I just don't like to be on edge for 90% of the book because there is strife coming from every direction. Though, I very much enjoyed when Donovan and Sienna teamed up together against others. That's one of the things marriage should be about.
All in all, it was well done but it really wasn't a relaxing read. Ms. Reed is continuing to improve as an author. Her next book, Bad Influencer, is hilarious and one of the best books I have read this year. I actually read it before this one. The only other book I have read by Ms. Reed is her first and even though it had issues, you could see the promise the author showed and she has delivered on that 200%.
In all fairness. I stopped at 50% of the book when (spoiler alert) the sister was so angry at “not being taken seriously” that she walked around her family’s lucrative winery wearing a penis on her head. Help me make it make sense! According to reviews it only gets worse from there! I loved the premise so much I didn’t even read the reviews first-big mistake! Hoping this review helps someone before they waste their Sunday like I did. The idea of marriage of convenience not dictated by a dead relatives will but instead to squash a family rivalry sounded intriguing. I wanted to see the characters forge ahead while being adults about the awkward situation. Wow. Was I wrong. The heroine was gross. Yes gross- anti hygienic even. The author tried to pass this off as hippie- but it was offensive to me she classified hippies and people who like walking in poop not showering SMH. The heroine forced the mc to move Into an under construction unfinished barn with zero electricity, no appliances, or furniture because-pride?? Very mature. Oh but fear not she worked tirelessly and making it better BY ADDING POTTED PLANTs TO THE FRONT DOOR. Seriously if animals walking around the house pooping turns you on this book is for you! Nothing says hot and bothered like having to move the make out session from the living room to the bedroom because the duck pooped. 🤦♀️ I usually finish every book I read no matter how bad. But this?? The mc had poop on his face during a video conference for work. The squalor was much to much. The revulsion of it all🤢
This was an awesome story centered on two families who make different types of wine. The Whitlocke's make the fancy, special occassion wine and the Ribaldi family makes the more affordable type for a glass with dinner or friends or to relax. They are neighbors and they hate each other. However their kids attended the same school, shared friends, and grew up around each other.
Sienna is a Ribaldi and at age 10 arrived in town and fell hard for Donavan Whitlocke. He fell for her too or seemed like he did until he got around his family. And so their hate to love story begins at age 10 and through the years they both have hated each other while being attracted to each other.
The story begins when now in the present both families are struggling and so they find a land developer who wants to build some homes on their land which will both benefit both vineyards and so to show how the past is in the past, Sienna needs too marry a Whitlocke.
Donavan is back in town and he ends up being the Whitlocke who marries Sienna. They have a painful past where they let their families come between them and so they hate each other.
This was an awesome story. I loved every single chapter and you could really feel the chemistry between the two. Its filled with humor, family, friends, a bit of craziness and I adored this story so much.
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The main characters of Kenzie Reed's "At Wits' End," Sienna Ribaldi and Donovan Witlocke, were raised as enemies because of a decades-long family feud, but there was always a spark between them and they couldn't help being drawn together. I loved their fiery chemistry and amusing banter as well as the slow burn of their relationship growth as they reluctantly entered into a temporary marriage of convenience to convince the town that their families had reconciled. This "reconciliation" was required to close a property deal that would save both of their wineries.
There were some surprisingly emotional parts to this story, many of them connected to Sienna's relationship with her mother, but there was also plenty of humor to keep things from getting too heavy. I particularly enjoyed the antics of Sienna's Aunt Fernanda's beloved cat, Aceto, and his best friend, Ducktape the duck, as well as Donovan's sister Jamie and her creative form of rebellion against their father's refusal to let her get more involved in the family business. Finally, there were a number of twists and turns related to the property deal that kept me guessing right up until the end.
Overall, this standalone enemies-to-lovers/fake relationship romance gave me all the feels and I adored it. I highly recommend "At Wits' End" for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans and look forward to whatever Kenzie Reed writes next.

The Ribaldi and Whitlocke family have been feuding for decades. When young Donovan points to Sienna on the playground and tells his dad he plans to marry that girl, his dad immediately tells him no. Donovan, being adopted, tries to make his parents happy so even though he has feelings for Sienna as they grow up, he finds himself tormenting her instead. Years later, the family vineyards are at risk and they need to sell land in order to bring the vineyards back up to speed financially. The only problem is that the buyer does not want to be located in the middle of two feuding families. The solution? Arrange a fake marriage. Sienna and Donovan end up tying the knot but along the way, feelings grow strong and secrets are revealed that could tear them apart. Something shady is also going on with the deal and the families have to work together to figure it all out.
At Wit’s End is second chance romance novel that delivers an abundance of humor with a sweet story. There were a few grammatical errors but they don’t get in the way of reading (at one point Donovan is referenced as Dominic and a few other minor errors). The secondary characters help make you feel connected to the town and provide humor as well. Overall, it’s a cute read. 3.5-4 stars ⭐️
At Wits' End is only the second book that I've read by Kenzie Reed, and I really can't understand why I haven't devoured her list since I love her writing style. Sienna is a Ribaldi while Donovan is a Whitlocke, and they've known each other for a very long time now so the hate started when she was 10 years old. However, at the present time she needs to marry a Whitlocke no matter how they feel about each other so they can save both families' vineyards but it's going to be complicated despite it being fake since they've never gotten over that past that was seriously unacceptable on his part since his family helped make her his enemy. The thing they don't realize is the fact that despite the painful past, they have some intense chemistry that's shooting sparks everywhere, and no matter how hard they try to resist, it's only a matter of time when that denial won't work anymore. This story gripped me from the first page & held on for dear life until the last page leaving me craving more so yeah, I LOVED it hard, and I believe you will as well because who doesn't need humor, heat, crazy families, and a lot of fun shenanigans in their lives! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Kenzie Reed hits one out of the park with this lively enemies to lovers comedy. It's laugh out loud funny (I found myself stifling laughter while reading).
The story follows a Romeo and Juliet model with a lot of comic situations and no deaths. Two families, both vineyard owners and next door neighbors, are interrupted from their 90-year-old feud to save their properties from development by a mysterious company, the owner of which travels with burly bodyguards. Their solution is to marry a daughter of one family to the son of the other. On paper it looks flawless; in real life it could be disastrous... or destiny.
The romance is the evolution of Sienna and Donovan's relationship from lifelong enemies to lovers who bring their families together. Classic, but heartfelt with characters who get under the reader's skin. The comedy, which I enjoyed for its originality, involves a hapless groom whose response to everything from introduction to dismissal is "dude"; the intrusion of goats and a duck into the background of a very important video call with a prospective client; a grumpy and violent cat Sienna's elderly aunt is convinced is the reincarnation of her dead husband; a vineyard greeter who wears a headband featuring male genitalia; and a business partner obsessed with Bigfoot sightings. So ridiculous! So much fun!
My star-stealing complaint its that I could not understand how the book got its title. There is no place called Wits' End in the book, and nothing is exasperating enough to qualify as crazy-making. Why choose it, then?
Their beginning was rough. Donovan and Sienna come from rival families. Donovan was a grade above Sienna in grade school. When he sat down on a bench and offered her one of their chefs famous cookies. She has secretly had a crush on him for awhile. Then he invited her to his 10th birthday party. She snuck out of her house to go. But unfortunately things didn't go well and Sienna ran home in tears.
Many years later, Sienna comes home and is forced to marry one of the rival families sons in order to prove that the families are working together so a profitable party can build homes outside their vineyards. But something happens at the wedding and suddenly her groom turns out to be none other than Donovan.
What starts out as a horrible relationship quickly turns into something much more. These two come together with tons of passion. The families try their hardest to hide their animosity and both Sienna and Donovan try to reel things in.
I loved reading this story. Such excellent characters including the cat and the duck. Made me chuckle out loud at times! Thank you Kenzie Reed for such a great story. Enjoy!
This was truly an enemy to lovers romantic comedy about two rival families that must cooperate with each other to save their families. The Witlockes and the Ribaldies have been enemies forever and both families make wine. They are neighbors and constantly try to outdo the other family. The entire town knows about the rivalry and tries to keep the families apart. So, when the land developers want to see the two families unite, the town is astonished by the wedding of Donavan Whitlocke and Sienna Ribaldies. One persistent reporter is determined to discover the truth about their wedding, while Donavan and Sienna try to prove they are in love. There is a lot of humor, witty banter, family drama, home sabotage, and twists and turns. The storyline is interesting, and my attention was caught from the beginning. I could not put the book down until I finished. If you are looking for romance with lots of comedy this is the book for you. I received an ARC and am willingly leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is novel starts out with a “fake” marriage between a couple who each represent the members of the opposing feuding families . This young couple has known each other since elementary school and have harassed each other even though they each secretly were crushing on each other! Due to what appears to be a lucrative business deal that is predicated on a both families abandoning the feud.
The young protagonists fall in love and consummate their “fake” union! There is a bitter reporter, whose attorney ex husband is currentlymarried to a younger prettier gold digging wife, and who wants to prove that feud continues so her ex cannot benefit from this lucrative business deal.
There are some comical pets: a cat call Aceto and a duck named Ducktape and later a cat named Cleocatra! The author has a great sense of comedy and some of her lines are laugh out loud funny ! While the plot is admittedly trite, it is still a fun read!
I think I found a new favorite author. Sienna and Donovan made for an interesting and cute couple and I loved the small town/rival family drama that was escalated just to keep up crazy reputations. The premise of the fake marriage kind of baffled me. Why is everyone set on some shady unknown man buying land? I get they need the money, but everyone is getting bad vibes from him even if they won't admit it and they're still letting everything ride on this? Why? Also, why would a shady criminal, who plans to build shoddy construction and bail really care about the rivalry and fake marriage, if he plans to bounce regardless? He wasn't even around to witness said fake marriage.
The novel went downhill about the 60% mark when all the characters seemed dead set on pissing everyone off. And I do mean EVERYONE is mad at EVERYONE for some stupid reason or another. Also the plot holes are really coming to light about now and that put a damper on things.
who edits these things? One important, secondary character changes names (Marcus or Murray??), the name of the town is misstated, some minor events details change over the course of a short passage, and there are many, many basic grammatical errors that would have been easily caught. It’s also never explained why Donovan never came after Sienna before the wedding, even though he was admittedly always in love with her. Sienna really seemed to lack maturity and any sense of self-awareness, even at the end. And who calls and dumps a major emotional issue on their partner immediately before a super important meeting...that call could have absolutely waited a couple hours.
Fun, easy read that will keep you entertained. While the feuding families got old, the main characters were great. I enjoyed the love-hate thing they had going on, and their relationship grew from start to finish. I liked the hidden surprises that were revealed in the story (you'll have to read yourself, no spoilers!). It's nice to have those kinds of things to keep the reader guessing and interested. I would have loved to find out what was actually going on with Linda and the deal, but it wasn't addressed. Felt a bit like a loose end that didn't get tied up. I loved, loved, LOVED how Sienna finally lifted the weight from her shoulders (once again, don't want to spoil that part either)!
Love it. I love the romance amongst an old family feud . Specially when one of the families is Italian. You know there's gonna be lots of laughs. At first Donavan comes out a bit douchy but as you read on you see how much he cares about Sienna. I loved Sienna's personality. I wish this movie gets turned in to a movie it's that good. Prepare for lots of laughs between the bantering of Sienna and Donavan and the funny shenanigans between them and the family feud and the crazy town people there is no dull moment in this book. It's not all fun and laughs there is a bit of drama but it just makes it even better. I could imagine this book in reality I wonder if the author was inspired by actual events?
I received this free eARC novel from the author and Wildfire Marketing Solutions. This is my honest review.
This was a cute novel. I loved the family rivalry and how crazy the two families got around each other. Sienna sacrificed a lot with this fake marriage - I love my family, but I would not go to that extreme! And Donovan was so sneaky, waiting for just the right moment to pounce.
I loved the family run business at the vineyard and the weird quirks they do for traditions sake. And Sienna's pets? I just asked them.
This is a fun, entertaining book! I'm glad I got the chance to read it!
I keep getting introduced to new authors that are charming me and wreaking havoc with my TBR list! At some point, no, I know, I just can't read them all! So, keep knocking my socks off, and my TBR will continue to grow.
This story was so much fun to read!
Families are interesting and when they interfere with your life, that's what they're there for right, watch out!
Sienna and Donovan have some definite challenges to overcome, one of which is their dislike of one another! They're married now though, can they put their differences aside to save their family's vineyards?
This is the second book I am reading by this author and I really enjoyed it. I love Kenzie witty writing style. The story was fun and super cute & a fast read. You just can’t wrong with rival families and the whole family dynamics. The story revolves around two rival families Ribaldi and Witlocke . Sienna is a Ribaldi and she fell for Donavan whose a Witlocke when she was 10 . Of course things don’t go smooth with the family dynamics and they hate each other. Fast forward Sienna has to fake marry a Witlocke and she ends up marrying Donavan. The story was super cute with lots of witty moments. I really enjoyed this story and finished it in matter of hours. Definitely a must read
Remember when a boy would pull your pigtails or show you a bug when they were secretly in luuuv with you? Well, Donovan did a lot worse than that and she's hated him ever since. Now he shows up in all his gorgeous, sexy, grown-up body to marry her to secure their families' businesses. And their families are like the Hatfields and McCoys. Sienna could kick herself right square in the a$$ for being drawn to him like a magnet. How can she ever trust him again? This is another fun, down-to-earth story from Kenzie with a few animals thrown in just to make it even sweeter.
This story will pull you in from the start. There were a few typos throughout, but it wasn't anything that took away from the story, and it was a little slow in some spots, but then before you knew it, it had you laughing.
You'll really enjoy reading the banter between Donovan and Sienna, and the connection that develops between them while they're trying to convince everyone in town that their marriage isn't fake. And you gotta love Sienna's BFF Pamela. She's a total crack up!
But life's not easy when your families pretty much hate each other. Lucky for us it makes for a pretty entertaining story! This is a definite recommend read!
The characters leapt from the page with such a lot of sass and spunk and a whole load of attitude. Loved them all. They were all such a loyal bunch to their families, well all except 1, but who needs her anyway.
And to just keep the mayhem going, not only do you have 2 feuding families, you have ducks and cats and goats a plenty, with more shenanigans than you can poke a stick at.
Oh and I nearly forgot. A business deal that smells a little fishy
So sit back and enjoy the ride, you won’t be disappointed
I was just reading along, completely enjoying a nice afternoon romance. Thought to myself, ‘This is great. An actual romance for a change. Not some stupid Scooby Doo Mystery’. When suddenly, it was like the writer heard my unspoken thoughts, and away we went. All at once, problems with ‘The Mob’ popped up. You know how it is. At least that’s how it is in virtually every book categorized as a ‘romance’ lately. I don’t understand why writers think romance is not enough. Not a single one can write a good ‘thriller’. Stick with ‘romance’. You were doing great. What a pity to ruin it that close to the end.
I deducted one star for the grammar issues because they could have easily been fixed during editing. The story itself is cute. There were some mysteries we never learned enough about though. *Spoiler alert but I’ll keep it vague* We never found out why Linda skipped her daughter’s birthday and decided a birthday was the appropriate time to stop playing mommy. We know she wasn’t great but she seriously couldn’t pretend to care for one more day? There had to be a reason. We never found out exactly how much money was stolen or how she got away with it for so long.
