Philemon Fowler Sturges III was an architect and author based in Rhode Island. He trained at Princeton University. He wrote children's books from 1995 until his death in 2005.
Occasionally you find a hidden gem when you randomly start grabbing things on a library sale's Dime Day. Other times you find yourself with something like this.
Not to say it's absolutely awful, a short look at the way we see things in the universe as a way of inviting young readers to take interest, but the way the author and illustrator make the characters Native American with no real reason, as well as seeming to just throw in a few stereotypes like it was a last minute decision and they wanted to make it clear.
Or, maybe I'm just reading too much into the art.
Either way, this is another Little Free Library selection, so hopefully whoever grabs this one enjoys it more than I did.
