James Munkers is out of time. He's supposed to be looking after the house while his parents are away, but the magic-fuelled kids in the bedroom upstairs keep manifesting elephants in the living room. He's supposed to be attending his last year of school, but the headmaster is evil and there's a crack in the fabric of reality near the main gate. He's supposed to be saving the world, but the dimensions are breaking down, the Hoarders are poised to attack, and the Shadow Figure draws ever closer. James needs more time. But when he unexpectedly travels back to the nineteenth century, he gets more time than he bargained for. And that still might not be enough to fix what - or who - he finds there. James Time Freak is the third book in a fantasy adventure series for young adults.
Lindsey Little is a writer of fantasy adventures for young adults. Her first series is the James Munkers books, a tetralogy about a young man struggling with newly discovered magical powers. Lindsey lives in Tasmania, runs a ballroom dancing business with her childhood sweetheart, and lives next door to her evil twin.
This is my favourite James Munkers' book so far. I reached the final page and I was delighted with the decisive way he took control of the battle. I'm eager to find out what happens next. The characters have depth, with lots of imperfections to make their victories even more impressive. James is an unlikely hero, and everyone makes sure he knows it. That doesn't stop him from trying his best. The family and friends he shares his adventures with provide additional challenges that are relatable. There are a few I would like to give a jolly good shake to make them open their eyes to the way they are treating him, but there are also times when it would be James that I would be sitting down for a long chat. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a vulnerable hero on a journey of discovery against seemingly impossible odds.
Magic AND time travel! Perfect combination for James's 3rd instalment. Loved James's character development and the plot twists in the past leave you questioning who the real bad guys are. An extremely enjoyable read. Can't wait for the next book.
