Dreams, Spelled in Poetry

Dreaming feels like
boarding a magic carpet.

I'm flying into the night
imagination shaping the clouds,
hands holding the stars.

No fear, just the magic I trust.
It'll take me to a place I don't know yet,
somewhere I belong.

When I saw this at the bookstore, I'm not interested at all because there is no illustration at the book, and it make the book feels empty. And then I decided to give it a try because I want to read poetry. I regret it. Some of the poems is good but some of it just have 2 lines in it. 2 lines! Is it a poem? Some poem waste 3x2 pages because they're only have 2 line each, I said 3x2 pages because they're only prints at the right side of the book & left side is mostly empty, make me feel this is a waste of paper, they're should print it both side. Or make more words / poems. If they're only want to print one side at least put some illustrations in it. All of the poetry books I read so far have amazing or good illustrations & make me can feel the poems more. This book feels very empty. Same opinion on Natasha other book. I surprise the POP ice, the publisher let it to be printed that way.

The poems reflect on how people, teenager, or young girls view on dream. The words use is so beautiful. I can't express how much emotions I feel while reading the poems even though I don't fully understand poem nor read it often. This is a lightweight poems that you can read whenever you feel down, insecure, or no one is supporting your dreams. Live your life the way you want it, live your dream, be yourself.

Do you believe in the power of dreams? Through this book, Helena Natasha trying to convince us that dreams can be so powerful. Ya, buku ini akan membuat pembacanya kembali percaya pada kekuatan mimpi, bagaimana mimpi dan harapan-harapan yang awalnya terdengar tidak masuk akal akan sangat mungkin kita nyatakan if we believe and really work on it. This book is so powerful, thanks for reminding me and make me believe again to my dreams that I've been burried in the back yard before :"(

4.25 out of 5 stars!

"Keep in mind that
you are in a land of possibilities—
you can only go big as big as your bravery lets you."

- Dreams, Spelled in Poetry, p. 45

As a fellow poet and someone whose dream is... hard to explain and seems possible to gain with much effort, it flicks something to me.

Thank you so much, Kak Helena Natasha. It will be an honor if sometimes we can collaborate to create a poem or two together.

The thunder won't care if I yell back.

The cloud won't listen when it's about to burst into tears.

I can't wipe dry every raindrop.

I can't waste days looking for rainbows in storms The cold already got to my bones,

when it almost gets my soul, I run to a shelter of prayers.
The journey have to stop for a while and it's okay.

Surprisingly I really enjoyed this poetry collection. I am usually pretty skeptical of tumblr-esque poetry collections because usually they're cheesy or corny but I like that the poetry collected here have a lot of diverse themes besides love like family, dreams, insecurities, etc. Might check out this author's other poetry collections.

There's a lot in this book who reminds me of my old dreams. I missed them. A lot. The one I know is everyone has their own journey. I have to face it myself and moving forward. The world doesn't stop anyway.

The words are beautiful, but I noticed several uncertainties within them. They don’t seem to fully represent what the writer’s heart intends to express.
