Hill Valley hasn't seen an unlawful killing in its entire history, until sixteen-year-old Irwin Broster is found brutally murdered in Layton woods. The police are at a loss as to find any motive, or any evidence that might point them toward a suspect, and when another body turns up and then another they know that they have a serial killer on their hands. Detective Elaine Brackett leads the investigation and she will do anything to bring the killer down, even hiring back retired detective Raymond Whistler. The investigation leads them to Patrick Taylor, the son of one of the victims. He is on a collision course with the killer, and the history of Hill Valley is about to change forever.
