Certainly not those capable of destroying her world.
Yet here they are.
Devastation surrounds them. Whole families are slaughtered. Who will stop them?
Brooke awakens to find the world as she knew it is gone. Leading a small band of humans, she’s determined to reclaim what the aliens have taken from her. What she doesn’t count on is the huge man, who looks human, but not quite.
Dante Balliol is a prince and heir from the planet Felidia. Caught unaware, him and his brother are captured by their enemies, the Terrapians. They manage to escape, but not before Dante’s ship is destroyed. Now, stranded on a primitive planet, he joins the humans in their quest to bring down the invaders and rescue the other captives.
Can they work together? Time is running out. Not only for their loved ones, but the entire planet as well. Pick up the first book in this series as Brooke and Dante battle the Terrapians and fight to save the world.
Mary (M.L.) Cook is retired, with hours and hours to write. She was born and raised in Indiana. Although she’s lived in several other states, her heart lies in the Hoosier state. Worlds come alive. Characters stand over her shoulder. Sometimes they wake her at night. All of them want to have their stories written. No matter how she thinks the story should go, it goes according to how the character decides it should. They all write their own stories.
Sometimes you can find Mary wandering the magical lands of Azeroth. If you happen to find someone who goes by Didntdream, say hello. Or perhaps it will be one of those days when she’s casting spells with her Orc, Loktoria. Either way, make her day and give her a shoutout.
M.L. Cook has created a wild science fiction romp in “New Dawn”! Brooke is a strong leading woman who handles every situation handed to her with realism and passion.
Dnf at 25%. Sifi is one of my favourite genres and i really like a good adventure with a strong heroine but this story was dragging from the start and the heroine was supposed to be a vet but her behaviour was immature. Maybe i will finish it another time i don't know, it goes on my dnf pile. That's my personal opinion tho, so if you want to read it, go ahead.
Page turner If you like Sci-fi books and appreciate a hint of romance, this novel is for you. The storyline is great and flows nicely; the characters are well-developed, likable, and interesting. I didn’t want to put this book down and kept reading to find out what would happen next. Can’t wait for book 2. Great story.
This is an excellent book! I love how the author chose to have the leading characters as women with strong survival instincts and skills. It's really nice to have a story that takes place in my hometown also. It's like I can watch the story unfold in front of me and I can visualize it. Can't wait until the second book comes out!
As much as I'd prefer not having cliffhangers, it works here. I enjoyed the characters a lot and the storyline rolls along smoothly. I will probably break down and buy the next book lol
( Format : Audiobook ) "No such thing as aliens?" This is a story with potential but seriously in need of editing and it is more a serial than a series, leaving the reader in suspense mid plot after only three and a half hours. Waking to what she believes to be an earthquake, ex military Brook discovers that aliens do exist as she looks for her feisty little sister Aubree amidst the chaos and devastation. But Bree has already been captured by the invading and nasty, Terrapians. What Brooke does find is a crashed alien ship with human female survivors and another alien of catlike heritage but looking very human, and, unknown to her, heir to the Felidian throne and head of the galactic Coalition for Unity and Peace. The writing is simple, the protagonists also. There is, however, a real charm in the getting-to-understand the social reactions between humans and Felidians as well as the interactions between male and female. Narrator, Kylah Williams, captures well the amused and superior puzzlement of the warrior prince, Dante, at the antics of the humans with whom he finds himself.
My thanks to the rights holder of New Dawn, who, at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. After an initial confusion - so many women in different locations - I did find the book wryly amusing if somewhat simplistic. And how annoying is Brooke, the main female protagonist? This woman could surely never have seen military service. But would I continue to book two? I don't think so. Probably more aimed at teens and young adults: could make a fun, visual film.
Brooke Caldwell’s life is taking a horrific turn. An alien reptilian life form from across the galaxy has invaded Earth. Brooke has one goal, to find her sister, Aubree. And to survive. This is a story with kickass strong women fighting a battle against an overwhelming foe. A tale filled with a dangerous, perverted enemy. Another humanoid race is also battling the same enemy. Two brothers are on the enemy ship. Fierce big warriors meet seemingly frail human women, sparks fly. This first book was a fast paced, action filled read. I am eager to read the second in the series.
A typical, but entertaining, sci fi story about an extraterrestrial invasion
New Dawn is the first book in Cook’s Felidian Warriors series.
This story takes place in the small city of Anderson, IN.
The whole world is under attack by an extraterrestrial reptilian race called the Terrapians. The Terrapians seem to be more interested in capturing female humans than capturing Earth.
Two sisters, Brooke and Aubree (Bree for short), join the others in trying to escape from the Tererrapians; however, Bree is captured while Brooke joins the other women trying to survive and escape.
Along with the two sisters two brothers, Dante and Seth Balliol, sons of the ruling family on the planet Felida, are also captured. Dante is able to escape from the Terrapians and join Brooke and her group, while Bree and Seth start a battle on the Terrapian ship.
The rest of the story is about Brooke, Dante and their group evading and, when necessary, battling the Terrapians on Earth, but does not include Bree and Seth anymore.
Extraterrestrial invasion is a typical theme for the standard sci fi story; this one is entertaining and fast moving. I would have liked, however, more on the Bree and Seth part of the story.
Another different take on the end of world scenario. This one gives us some very broad strokes about the aliens that are out there, but they only introduce us to a couple of groups of them. Most of the story centers around a group of survivors who are trying to find, a safe place. Page after page it’s following their lives over the span of just a couple of days with lots of action. It was a pretty interesting story and I do have some curiosity about what might take place next. The author did a good job, but I feel like they need to hone their skills a little better to give us all the details to truly bring the story alive. A worthwhile read in the end.
Brooke Carter has her own demons from her past to deal with, and now she's forced to face a completely new reality. While attempting to begin life in a world that's fallen apart, she encounters a beings from another world. Some of them want to destroy everything. But there's Dante. Yes, he's pretty hot. It's something she has to put off, at least until she can find her sister. Where will things go from here? Will the author have time to write more about the matings between the humans and the Felidians? Humm... only time will tell.
Aliens attack earth killing and capturing humans. Brooke is trying to find her sister when one ship crashes to the ground. Humans and aliens emerge from the ship. Dante is an alien Prince captured by the Terrapians along with his brother as hostages. Small alien females are there to, one decides to escape and helps to overcome the guards. Can Aubree help the second Prince to escape? And will he keep his promise to return her earth? A must read for all lovers of aliens.
This is good beginning to a story but it doesn't finish. It gets to the point where the author wants to start a second book. The storyline is decent as has direction to it with good characters. There are some noticeable mistakes, like a doctor that doesn't know the difference between postpartum and postmortem and victim burned so badly with clothes melted to the skin still running around like nothing happened. Might be worth looking into the second part of series.
There were just too many things that didn’t make sense and since no explanations were given, my brain kept on snagging in these details Ex: a bunch of different aliens invade earth and everyone speaks English ?
Fun, fast-paced, and a total sci-fi romp. Go into it knowing you're about to be taken on an out of this world thrill ride with lizard like aliens invading the planet and you'll have a great time!
Can't do it. On page 18, it's alluding to peado S.A. and I'm not reading further to see whether it happens or not. *gag* Thanks anyway. Just not my cup of tea.
The book has a good start to the story, but it felt like it ended in the middle. The storyline itself was decent enough and had enough tension to keep the pages turning. It wasn’t well-paced however. It seemed that at times, the plot went from moment to moment without trying to connect events. Some of the characters came across as unrealistic, talking in a way that no person really talks. It could do with another round of edits as well.
