المجموعة القصصية "الحب والموت والروبوتات" واحدة من أجمل المجموعات التي قرأتها، وليس فقط بسبب تأثري بالمسلسل بجميع أجزائه؛ والذي كان سبباً أساسياً في كتابة المجموعة القصصية بعد إصدار المسلسل والنجاح الكبير الذي حصل عليه، فكانت تجربة قراءة القصص ومشاهدة الحلقات مرة أخرى تجربة ممتعة وجعلتني أنتبه لتفاصيل أفلتت مني في أول مشاهدة، أو لم يقم المسلسل بالتركيز عليها، فوجدت أن الكتاب مُتمم للمسلسل والعكس صحيح.

تتكون المجموعة القصصية من 16 حكاية (1) تفاوتت في المستوى والجودة والطول، ولكن كل قصة كانت تحمل فكرة مجنونة وخيالية وممتعة، اختلفت الحكايات ولكن الثيمة الأساسية لكل حكاية كانت تحتوي على -كما يوحي العنوان- "الحب والموت والروبوتات"، ويعرض كل كاتب فلسفته وأفكاره على حسب الطريقة التي يُفضلها، فهناك من فضل الديستوبيا، هناك من فضل السخرية السوداء، هناك من فضل الحروب المستقبلية، والعديد من التفضيلات التي ستلتقطها بعد كل قصة وحكاية، والمُميز والمُدهش أن عنصر المتعة والتشويق عموماً لم ينقص من كل تلك الحكايات، فكلهم تنتظر نهايتهم، وفي أغلب القصص ستتفاجأ بالنهاية.

ختاماً.. واحدة من أجمل المجموعات القصصية التي ستقرأها في حياتك، وعلى الأخص لمُحبي الخيال العلمي والخيال الجامح، كُتبت القصص بعد حلقات المسلسل ونجاحه، ولكن لو سألتني أيهما تفضل البدء به؟ المسلسل أم الكتاب؟ ورغم أنني أشعر بأنهم مُتممين لبعضهم ولكني أفضل قراءة الكتاب أولاً حتى لا تحصر خيالك في حلقات المسلسل. بكل تأكيد يُنصح بها.

(1) من المفترض أن الكتاب يحتوي على 18 حكاية كالنسخة الإنجليزية من الكتاب ولكن النسخة العربية تحتوي على 16 حكاية/قصة فقط، وعلامة استفهام غريبة على نقص قصتين لنفس الكاتب "ألاستير رينولدز" ولا أعرف هل سيتم إضافتهم في الكتاب الثاني -إن كان هناك نية للترجمة- أم لا؟ وهي بصراحة علامة استفهام غريبة وحتى لا يوجد أي تنويه بأن النسخة غير كاملة، حتى أن نبذة الكتاب تقول أن هناك 16 قصة قصيرة و2 معالجة سينمائية بإجمالي 18 حكاية ولكنهم 16 فقط!

Love, Death and Robots is a title that probably everyone who’s at least a bit into sci-fi heard because of very successful NETFLIX adaptation. Me too – first contact and first love had been watching the anthology series. While doing so, I recognized a few familiar names in the credits, and that peaked my interest. I mean, when you see names like John Scalzi or Alastair Reynolds – you get interested by default, right?

It probably would be nice to re-tell and give my brief opinion on each and every short story, yeah? But I’m a lazy one and I won’t do it, duh. Instead, I’ll say that the most amazing feature of this whole collaboration or a project, whatever you call it, had been such an accurate depiction of each and every story. Yes, sometimes there are few minor, very minor differences. But in general – the level of commitment by all the studios to keep each and every word accurate is nothing short of impressive.

Another fun thing had been realizing that my favorite short stories in the book are exactly the same ones as their animated counterparts. That’s “Suits”, “Sonny’s edge”, “Lucky thirteen”, “Beyond the Aquilla Rift”. Aaaaand of course “How the yoghurt took over”. Can’t imagine anyone but Scalzi having enough craziness for a story like that.

In a nutshell – a delightfully good collection. It might not have a huge WOW effect for me, but personally I think that’s more due to watching all those great stories a few times before finally getting to read them. 5*

❤️ co pierwsze - serial czy książka?

Krótko przed premierą rozmawiałem z moim znajomym i powiedziałem Filipowi, że fajnie byłoby czytać opowiadanie, a potem oglądać odcinek na jego podstawie. Podtrzymuję to zdanie. Warstwa wizualna idealnie wypełnia bardziej szczegółowe historie opisane w książce.

💀 czy opowiadania są na równym poziomie?

Zależy. Bo zależy co lubicie. Ja zdecydowanie zakochałem się w opowiadaniach stawiających duży nacisk na emocje bohaterów oraz w tych żartobliwie-ironicznych. Sceny walki mnie nie angażują, dlatego często jedynie szybko je przeglądam i wracam do czytania dialogów i monologów. "Miłość, śmierć i roboty" jest zbiorem, w którym każdy znajdzie coś dla siebie.

This is the perfect book for fans of the show, but I guess this will also be the perfect book for someone wanting to get into sci-fi. Before reading this one I was already familiar with John Scalzi, but now I've got some authors to move to the top of my tbr, like Alastair Reynolds and Ken Liu. And I discovered that militairy sci-fi is just not my jam.
It's been a while since I watched season 1 and the more forgettable episodes were just as forgettable in written form. Luckily, those stories were the short ones. But that's why I can't give it 5 stars. Even if this book was everything I hoped it was.

Su Tau Ceti un gruppo di coloni, combattono contro orde di alieni a bordo di exomech rappecettati alla meglio.. sa un po' di già visto, ma comunque piacevole..

Niente sci-fi, ma un racconto di vampiri.. non è scritto male, ma non so cosa ci faccia in questa raccolta.. personalmente poi odio i vampiri..

5) Quando lo yogurt.. - John Scalzi 2*
4 pagine.. Non capisco il bisogno.. Tanti per scrivere qualcosa..

6) Oltre la fenditura.. - Alastair Reynolds 5*
Beh è Reynolds che ti fa viaggiare nello spazio per distanze siderali, twist pazzeschi e totalmente mindfuck!!!

7) Buona Caccia - Ken Liu 2.5*
Anche questa più fantasy che sci-fi.. non l'ho particolarmente apprezzata..

Breve racconto un po' orrorifico in pieno stile Lansdale.. carino..

Un racconto militare di guerra con mutaforma licantropi.. non male, racconto intrigante e scritto bene..

I racconti non sono proprio il mio format preferito.. mi piacciono più racconti lunghi o romanzi veri e propri.. alcuni dei racconti però sono davvero belli.. La maggioranza però è piuttosto normalina..
Ma da una raccolta sci-fi mi sarei aspettato più fantascienza, e invece c'è tanto fantasy, che mi piace anche, ma no in una raccolta sci-fi sui robot.. do comunque 4 stelle perché i racconti belli meritano davvero!!

Having watched the series which I thoroughly enjoyed, I was delighted to find the book that contained the stories the episodes were based on. There are some stellar 5 star stories in this collection, the most notable being Alastair Reynold’s Beyond the Aquila Rift, Ken Liu’s Good Hunting and On the Use of Shapeshifters by Mark Kloos. Each excellently written with prose, characters and plots that are well fleshed out for short stories. Of course, as with most collections, there are some that are weaker but overall an enjoyable reading experience that has me hankering to rewatch the series very soon.

أخذتُ قرار قراءتها مزامنة بمشاهدة المسلسل، الذي اقتبسها في أفضل صورة ممكنة. (تم تجميعها ونشرها بعد نجاح المسلسل وليس العكس)
لذلك يمكنني القول بأن مشاهدة المسلسل تُغني عن قراءة المجموعة والعكس صحيح. علي حسب أيهما تفضل المادة المقروءة أم المرئية ؟!

Lektura "Miłość, śmierć + roboty" była dla mnie niesamowitą przygodą. Przede wszystkim zapoznawałam się z tą antologią w nietypowy sposób. Po przeczytaniu od jednego do trzech opowiadań robiłam sobie przerwę od czytania oglądając animacje stworzone przez Netflixa. Dzięki temu mogłam zarówno docenić autorów i oryginalne dzieła oraz zachwycić się w jaki sposób zostały przeniesione na ekran.

Antologia zawiera 18 całkowicie różnych opowiadań wśród których każdy znajdzie coś dla siebie. Niektóre zostały wiernie odtworzone w formie animacji, niektóre są wariacjami oryginałów, a jeszcze inne zostały bardziej rozbudowane lub uproszczone w adaptacji. Mam wiele faworytów i tutaj na pewno muszę wymienić: Sonnie ma przewagę, Trzy roboty, Świadek, Gdy jogurt przejął władzę, Szczęśliwa Trzynastka, Epoka Lodowcowa, Historie Alternatywne, Błękit Zimy. Bardzo podobały mi się również: Udanych łowów, Pomocna dłoń, Za szczeliną orła. Jak więc widać co najmniej jedenaście z osiemnastu opowiadań zrobiło na mnie bardzo duże wrażenie, a pozostałych też nie uważam za złe.

Mogłabym się tutaj bardzo rozpisać pod względem różnic pomiędzy opowiadaniami i ich adaptacjami. Nie ukrywam, że w niektórych przypadkach, bardzo nielicznych, przykre było dla mnie uproszczenie historii. Zarówno Za szczeliną orła, jak i Błękit Zimy straciły w animacji na swoim przekazie. Te dwie historie wydały mi się za bardzo okrojone względem opowiadań. Z drugiej strony chociażby u Trzech robotów oprawa graficzna bardzo mnie zachwyciła. Tak naprawdę każdy z nas zupełnie inaczej odbierze ten zbiór, ale jestem całkowicie przekonana, że również każdy z nas znajdzie w nim coś dla siebie. Z jednej strony angażujące historie, a z drugiej również dygresje nad którymi można się zastanowić. Z czystym sumieniem mogę Wam ją polecić, bo to jedna z najlepszych antologii, jakie czytałam. A dzięki niej chyba zakochałam się w twórczości Johna Scalziego, którego aż trzy opowiadania są tutaj zawarte.

Fantastic companion for the show. I was thoroughly impressed by how true the producers stayed to the stories. I was particularly awed by John Scalzi and Alastair Reynolds’ writing. The humor and absurdity of Scalzi and fantastic, captivating storytelling of Reynolds was just awesome. I found myself having to pace the book out a bit because I didn’t want to blow through all the stories too fast! (I am not a fast reader either). I’ve already added numerous authors from this collection to my ‘to be read’ list and look forward to reading more of their work. If you haven’t seen the show, you’ll still enjoy this thoroughly. However, I highly recommend you watch it.

Czwarta gwiazdka jest ociupinkę na wyrost. Przez fakt, że porównywałem z pierwszym sezonem serialu, któremu te opowiadania posłużyły za fabularną kanwę. Zresztą, trudno jest je oddzielić od serialu, na pewno mnie. Aczkolwiek niektóre z tych tekstów lepiej wypadły w serialowej wersji, inne przeciwnie, z serialowymi wersjami wygrywały. Czyli wyszło typowo ostatecznie. Lepiej byłoby je oceniać oddzielnie, niż razem. Głównie z powodu gatunkowego rozrzutu.

Remek ez a novelláskötet, nagyon jól kiegészíti a Netflix szuper sorozatát. Csak az első gyűjtemény alapjául szolgáló írásokat tartalmazza, nem is tudom, lesz-e olyan, amelyik a másodikhoz kapcsolódik.

A kedvencem a Zima Blue, hihetetlenül sokat hozzátesz a filmváltozathoz.

Két forgatókönyv is van a kötetben, azok formázása sajnos teljesen el van rontva, ők felelősek a mínusz egy pontért.

From my first time watching the show, I had wondered about the original stories behind each episode. Getting to read through the inspirations was awesome. I loved getting more depth for a lot of the tales, seeing where and why things were cut or added, and getting to experience the worlds all over again.

An "average" of 4 stars! Certainly worth a read and certainly an interesting experience when held up to the NETFLIX series that I watched originally when it came out - and then now again following each reading session.

No real surprises I guess you could say. Really good stories from the animated series were for the most part really well written parts of this anthology. There were a few that I enjoyed for totally different reasons - for example "Helping Hand" was a much better short story than it was on the screen, however, casting someone with a Scottish lilt made all the difference in (or I guess I should say out) the world! And yes, there were some here in the anthology that were much better than their illustrated counter-parts if for no other reason than you couldn't actually put all the subtleties the original authors included on film! So a mix ranging from "loved both" to "loved one, found the other 'meh'" to "crap in = crap out".

I had wanted to include an anthology of ANY KIND in my reading now for some time and I will say that this example has NOT sold me on the concept at all. I'm just not a short story fan - novella is kind of my limit - simply because I get so involved in my reading. Neither will this particular anthology have me rushing out to buy any of the books by authors' that I haven't read yet as it's just not a promotional tool I can get behind. Still, bottom-line is if you're a fan of the series, you should for the most part enjoy this collection.

The only negative I can really bring up was I found the 'screenplays' to be a drawback. I know why they were included like this, but frankly, it just struck me as lazy to not have someone put them in story form. I guess that comes from growing up reading the novelized versions of a good many of my favorite movies, so I know it can be done and done well if you want to put in the effort. I don't know why Miller chose not to but there you go.

Enjoy and count me in if someone wants to put together same down the road for the limited number of tales from Series 2 PLUS whatever else shows up if it really does get renewed!

A great follow-up read to the Love Death + Robots Series on Netflix, the collected short stories each episode (of series 1) was based on. A well-presented book that looks great, 16 short stories and 2 screenplays. The episode adaptations more or less followed each short story (or screenplay), some more closely than others, and there are some quite big SF names netted in this collection, along with names less familiar to me.
For me, the collection is worth picking up for the likes of Alastair Reynolds, Ken Liu and Peter F Hamilton (already well on my radar) and some authors like John Scalzi who I have been meaning to check out. If the series was of any interest, this anthology is absolutely worth reading. There were some under-performers: let's face it, most anthologies have a few. The stand-out story for me to read was Reynolds' 'Beyond the Aquila Rift'. There were a few stories with a generous dose of humour, which lightens up an anthology heavy on the military horror side of things (no surprise, given that that is the focus of Cohesion Press, and the reason they were chosen to publish this anthology). But the gun porn and the swarm massacres were there as well, so all round a rewarding, entertaining anthology.

الحب والموت والروبوتات..

هنا مفاجأة سارة، تفاجأت في معرض الكتاب الماضي بوجود هذا الكتاب مترجم في جناح دار المحروسة، وقررت أن أشتريه حتى وإن لم يكن على قائمتي، أولاً بسبب حبي لهذا المسلسل، وثانية بسبب التخفيض الذي أغراني بالشراء، والحقيقة أنني لم أندم.
16 قصة قصيرة -بلا وجود للمعالجتين السينمائيتين كما تم وعدنا- تتشارك جميعها كما يظهر في اسم الكتاب في ذكرها للحب أو الموت أو الروبوتات -أو كلها معاً-..
أعطتني هذه القصص الفرصة لأرى المسلسل بعين جديدة، عين ترى التفاصيل الإضافية التي تم الاستغناء عنها في المعالجة التلفزيونية، وترى عبقرية الفنانين الذين قرروا تحويلها لشيء مرأي بأسلوبهم الخاص، ليعطوها جزءاً من روحهم في الرسم والتحريك لنرى هذا العمل في صورته النهائية.

هناك العديد من القصص التي أزدادت جمالاً عندما تم تحويلها إلى رسوم متحركة، وهناك بعض القصص التي أنبهرت بها أكثر بكثير في صيغتها المكتوبة لأنني لم أرى أن ستايل الرسم مناسب لها أو لأنهم حذفوا منها بعض التفاصيل التي رأيتها محورية ومهمة، وهناك بعض القصص التي لم تعجبني إطلاقاً رغم تقديري للنتيجة النهائية على الشاشة وتقديري للفن والجهد المبذول.

ولكن في كل الأحوال هذا كتاب جميل تم تحويله لمسلسل جميل، انتشلني من reading block كبير، حدث قبله وحدث في منتصفه لأسباب مختلفة ولكنني في النهاية أنهيته وأحببته للغاية.

„Miłość, śmierć + roboty” to różnorodny zbiór opowiadań, opowiastek i scenariuszy, które posłużyły jako materiał twórcom netflixowego hitu o tym samym tytule. Doskonale się przy nim bawiłem, a jedno z opowiadań poruszyło mnie wyjątkowo i skłoniło do przemyśleń, czego nie spodziewałem się po tego typu historiach.

Do pracy nad zbiorem zostało zaprzęgniętych kilkunastu twórców, którzy swoje teksty w dużej mierze oparli o zderzenie człowieka z biotechnologią. Choć może bardziej właściwe byłoby użycie słowa „współistnienie”, bo technologia zrosła się już z człowiekiem nieodwracalnie.

Zachwyci Was opowiadanie „Trzy roboty”. To krótkie, zabawne CUDEŃKO, w którym nasi mechaniczni spadkobiercy pochylają się nad ludzkimi przedmiotami codziennego użytku. Jakie ślady pozostawimy po sobie my ludzie i jak ocenią je ci, którzy przyjdą po nas?

„Udanych łowów” to opowiadanie dobrze znanego Kena Liu, które nietypowo dla zbioru cofa nas w przeszłość. Jesteśmy świadkami zderzenia tradycyjnych, pełnych magii Chin z nadchodzącym z zachodu, rozbuchanym rozwojem gospodarczym. Są takie istoty, które nie mogą żyć, kiedy technologia zajmuje ich miejsce.

Te dwa opowiadania wspominam najlepiej. Choćby dla nich warto przeczytać ten zbiór, w którym wiele osób odnajdzie coś dla siebie.

This book comfortably slots in the 4 star category, the fact that I have watched the show and forgot the key plot points has enhanced my experience with this book. The mix of nostalgia and may I say dejavu, even if it technically is not, it was a pleasant experience.

Since this is an anthology, some stories hit home, some wouldn't, I have learnt more about the universes the show introduced me to, I visited those places again and in detail this time, got familiar and while I acquired new favourites considering I'm revisiting an enhanced world as imagined by the writers added by my age and experience from when I have watched the show was a good self-reflection.

If you are reading this to gauge whether to read this book or not, if you're not in a hurry and want to experience multiple stories and worlds taking time to experience each with patience, do give it a try.

"Miłość, śmierć i roboty" to zbiór opowiadań, na podstawie których powstał serial na Netflixie. Ja serialu nie oglądałam, a przy opowiadaniach spędziłam miło czas, zatem jak widać znajomość produkcji nie jest konieczna, by czerpać frajdę z czytania tej książki.

Większość opowiadań należy do gatunku science-fiction, ale w niektórych był to raczej jego podgatunek - historie alternatywne, który jest jednak trochę łagodniejszy w odbiorze. Opowiadania są bardzo różne, nie sposób się nudzić, ponieważ poruszają wiele różnych historii, o odmiennych klimatach. W niektórych było trochę przemocy i brutalności, więc tytułowa "śmierć" jest adekwatna do tytułu. Podobnie roboty, bo też występowały! Najmniej było samej miłości, ale jak dla mnie to raczej zaleta 😅

Uważam ten zbiór za naprawdę dobry i przyjemny w czytaniu. Praktycznie wszystkie opowiadania mi się podobały, tylko jedno, o zabarwieniu mocno politycznym, wzbudziło mój niesmak, bo jak dla mnie poruszony tam temat nie jest tematem do żartów. Chociaż przypuszczam, że w swojej opinii, jestem w mniejszości 😅

Tematyka jest bardzo zróżnicowana, mamy tu wizje przyszłości oraz historie alternatywne, walki robotów, wątki polityczne, klimaty militarne, fantastyczne stworzenia, nutę grozy i horroru, a przede wszystkim dużo tajemnic i podróży w nieznane! Myślę, że większość znajdzie w tym zbiorze coś dla siebie 😃 mi się bardzo przyjemnie czytało te opowiadania i mogę je szczerze polecić. Była to dobra rozrywka, a czasem chwile zadumy i refleksji 😁
