Her slippery husband has a history of conveniently losing his wives.
Is the stage now set for a repeat performance? The clock is ticking . . .
The Yorkshire author writes crime stories about Detective Inspector Michael Angel who lives a fairly happy existence with his wife Mary in the town of Bromersley in South Yorkshire.
Lisa Gooden, actress, walks into the police station and asks for DI Michael Angel. She says that her husband, director Miles Persimmon, has stated that when he gets back from a scheduled trip, he is going to murder her.
He had been drinking .. so was this an empty threat? Or a chilling promise?
When Lisa is found dead, Persimmon becomes the prime subject. When investigating he finds that Persimmon's wife is not the only wife he had . and she went missing under mysterious circumstances.
And then someone very close to Angel is abducted.
This is well written with intriguing characters interacting through twists and turns that lead to a most unexpected ending. Angel is flawed, but he's always there doing whatever is necessary to find justice for the victims or closure for families. He's also been known to cross that line every so often, but he never gives up. Action and suspense start at the beginning and maintains a high level. Although 27th in the series, this is easily a stand alone.
Many thanks to the author / Books n All Book Promotions for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Whaaaaaat!!!!!!! Please tell me that wasn't the final DI Angel book??! My life will be BEREFT!!!! Aaaarrrghhhh!!!
I thought it was MAGNIFICENT!!! Although the ending did feel a little bit rushed. It was yet another extremely difficult case for hard working Detective Inspector Michael Angel to solve. Then the baddies made the fatal mistake of messing with Michael's MOST PRECIOUS TREASURE!! ........ BIG MISTAKE!!!!!
Another great story featuring Inspector Angel and his team.Plenty of action with lots of twists and turns and once again Angel gets his man. The ending though leaves you with again if this is to be the last book in the series.
MURDER ON TIME has the threat of violence in the air from the very start. In spite of efforts to prevent it, some comes to fruition with a grisly discovery. Shortly thereafter, information comes to light that more has been silently perpetrated. No sooner than it seems that it's the end of the onslaught, there's another heinous incident. Convinced that this is finally the end of the brutality, it suddenly turns personal causing heart-racing, harrowing suspense. In an action packed, edge of the seat, race against time a rollercoaster ride ensues that turns everything upside down culminating in a dynamite explosive finish.
Michael only thinks of His Mary!!! And the Bad Guys have All the rights. Crisp should be a school teacher; he has shown No loyalty over the years. Hey, what did I miss? Where's Amad?? Love the Series, now what??
Two murder victims are pre-warned about their impending fate but do not take measures to help themselves. DI Michael Angel is determined to bring justice to their killers but is struggling to find evidence. Murder on Time is book 27 in the Angel series by Roger Silverwood but is the first one that I have read. There are no spoilers about previous books in the series so this works perfectly as a stand alone novel. A gang related hit list and a husband who wants rid of his wife: two murders that DI Angel is aware of before they happen. Yet he is helpless to prevent either so works tirelessly to solve the cases. I absolutely loved this book until the very final pages when I'm sorry to say I felt it lost its realism and concluded abruptly. However, this did not spoil my enjoyment as it was highly dramatic and entertaining. Michael Angel is a fabulous lead detective. His frustration at the lack of evidence and his dogged determination to find the truth felt very authentic. He has a settled home life with wife Mary and she allows him to switch off from policework in the evenings and weekends. The softer side to his character contrasted wonderfully with his professional demeanour. There was plenty of action and the style of writing was utterly captivating. The book contains some violence as you would expect from a gang related crime but there is little forensic detail. Instead the focus is on Angel's chasing down of clues and interview technique. Murder on Time was a very enjoyable police procedural novel with a hugely likeable lead detective.
A new author to me and a very enjoyable read. Detective Inspector Michael Angel has his hands full when a woman comes to the station saying her husband has threatened to kill her and a local known criminal is at the heart of some intenses heat. The woman is married to a well known producer who lost his first wife to heart failure. He is about to go away to Ireland and she is terrified that on his return she will meet her demise. However not fearful enough that she can leave her TV career behind and go into hiding. There's a muder or two, a breakout of a prisoner, a kidnap and much more in this easy to read, comfortable book with characters you can easily take to. Angel is a good old fashioned detective, married to his job but has the love of his life at home and when Mary becomes involved he begins to see red. A wonderful, easy read with a smile along the way. (Although number27 in the series- this happily stand alone- I hadn't read any of the others)
This most recent of the series ended leaving me wondering if Angel was retiring.... and I hope not! Angel has managed to solve a murder that was carried out by a powerful man who had boasted he was going to kill his wife and no one would be able to prove it. To ensure he is successful, the man arranges to have Angel's beloved wife hidden away. Definitely a mistake!
As usual, Silverwood leaves us with ambiguities. In this case, how were the Pigott murders and Persimmon murders related, if at all? How did Angel suffer an injury to his leg, requiring an operation? And why, given his international standing, would Persimmon have anything to do with pig farmers? Finally, what happened to the pig farmer's daughter, who seemed to be complicit? The epilogue does little or nothing to clear up these ambiguitires.
This # 27 will be my favorite book of all! Till the very last Angel managed to solve 2 very difficult murder cases, answered all the difficult questions; was beaten unconscious, received broken ribs, suffered at the hands of supervisor, and had is beloved Mary kidnapped by the ruffians who had dated him. He still managed to get his murderers!
I have the book this rating because as always Rodger Silverwood writes a good book . The books crisscrosses between the the good guys and bad boys. But as you know he always gets his man.
I thoroughly enjoyed the entire series of 27 novels and look forward to any forthcoming works by Silverwood. Michael Angel is a bit of a misogynist, but he DOES learn as he goes. The stories are clever and interesting.
I've loved all 27 books in this series from the first words to the last sad to see it come to an end ,I've put off reading this for so long back didn't want it to end ,but I'm so glad I did A perfect ending to an absolutely amazing series
DI Angel is involved with a formidable & brilliant movie producer who has told both Angel & his wife that he is going to murder her &_ get away with it. He appears to have the perfect crime in hand.
I enjoyed this series immensely. I could not put these books down until I had finished Murder on Time. A joy to have 26 books that I got so much pleasure reading.
Another jewel inthe series of great ,intriguing Mysterys ... the Ending is some what troubling however. Will Angle COME Back or continue on he And Mary's Dream Vacation ?!!
