Kyle T. Davis grew up in rural Oregon, spending time working on the job site with his father, a contractor, shooting guns, and playing Dungeons and Dragons with his friends. From digging ditches, roofing, farm work, to Project Manager on million dollar plus projects, Kyle has lived a life of hard work, completing this novel while working full time and starting his family. Though he lives in small town now with his amazing wife and three beautiful children, the country boy in him has never left. His faith in Jesus Christ is a major factor in all he does. From leading and raising his family to his interactions with all around him. He loves lame jokes, D&D (3.5 for life), guns, knives, books, science fiction, fantasy, bourbon and most any fine spirit, and of course writing. He looks forward to producing more works and hopes his writing can create characters who are role models for the next generation.

The Broken Word is a quick, well written short story that stresses the importance of words and their impact on the world. In this case, a post-apocalyptic world. An entertaining read.

I absolutely love the message of the story—words can have a profound impact. BUT throw in a post-apocalyptic setting, well-crafted characters, & Kyle’s style of writing & wow! For such a short story, it packs such a punch!

Kyle does an AMAZING job of crafting an extensive world that makes me want to learn more...& again, in such a small span of words!

Full disclosure: I’m a fan of Kyle’s work so I am a LITTLE biased. I read his Science Fiction novel, “A Protector’s Beginning” (Book 1 of the Jason Verse series—can’t wait for Book 2!), & other short story, “The Sparta”. I’ve done reviews of those as well!

I think some of my favorite things about Kyle’s work is his knack for creating interesting worlds & characters, making each one of his works so different but equally enjoyable (no matter the length), & his language. His language is clear, simple for the most part but with a nice sophisticated touch in the right places, & with a genre like Science Fiction, the unique terminology is easy to follow. Of course, I think that’s fairly universal between the stories/book I’ve read so far.

Seriously, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this, even if post-apocalyptic stuff isn’t your thing!

The Broken Word is a unique short story that left me curious for more!

Davis has created a truly fantastic world here! Everything from the banning of not only books but the written word in general from the Definers to the Hoarders instantly drew me in! I loved the world they created and I dived into it eagerly. But then it ended so quickly and I was left wanting.

The author has a wonderful story set up here but I want it to continue! This felt like a teaser more than anything. Still I really enjoyed it and I would definitely read a longer book by them.
