Trent I fell in love with the wrong girl—you could say. She destroyed my career. Set me up for her family’s crimes. Then ran off into the sunset to become Queen of a criminal empire. Time is supposed to heal all things. For me, time has done nothing but create a vengeful monster out for blood. Her blood. I won’t stop until she’s back on my turf, playing my game and surrendering her body and soul to me. I’d say my plan would be to destroy her heart like she did mine, except I learned long ago that Scarlet Reyes doesn’t have one. There is no happily ever after here. Scarlet I ruined my chance at happiness—you could say. I became a Queen to survive. He doesn’t know I walked away to save his life. My plan to make my father’s enemy fall in love with me worked, until I lost my own heart in the process. Until he showed me the cage I had allowed myself to be trapped in. When a relationship is already built on lies like ours, hearts and love don’t stand a chance. I have a secret I’m keeping from Trent Nichols. Now I’m back and once again my lies are standing in the way. How can we live happily ever after when he’s determined to ruin me?

You have to read this!

I'm a big fan of Brooks' Midwest Boys Series, I've even reread it but this book is in a league of its own!

This is a book of love, betrayal, passion and heartache. There is no denying that Trent and Scarlet belong together but it is far from straight forward!!
The connection between them was so believable, I honestly feel like I know these people! And the more you read, the more you learn and the more you just want to help! I'm a bit lost as to what else to say? I don't want to say anymore about the actual storyline because spoilers are the devil's work so I'll end this by saying - this is most definitely her best book written to date! Truly brilliant!

And I know it's listed as a standalone but I wholeheartedly hope that it's not! I would love Evita's story!!

It has been a long time coming for Trents story, but it was well worth the wait! Scar was hands down exciting! Not one moment was it lacking.

Reading Scarlet and Trent was an instant chemistry. They had a long troubled length of years. Trent falls instantly for Scarlet but she is not all she makes out to be. She is determined to be free and unfortunately that comes with someone getting hurt. So much happens that you’ll wonder what happens next. I enjoyed the energy between the two, when they care strongly for each other and even when there is tension. This book was a great read, just like every A.M. Brooks book!

I highly recommend reading this! If you’ve read some of A.M. Brooks other books you know Trent. This is definitely a great book to read!

"Loving him never meant happily ever after."

Scar is a beautiful story of true love, revenge, and overcoming impossible situations.

Second-chance romances are kryptonite to me. They are poignant and heartbreaking, but the unending love there always captures my heart. Scar was definitely a tragic and romantic story, but it also had something different and unique to offer. Combining motocross, the cartel, and sting operations, Scar was a story I'd never seen before.

"It's hard to breathe when you're away from me. All I can think about is when I'll see you again, or how I can make you smile."

Scarlet Reyes is the daughter of a cartel boss. Unwillingly forced into the harsh life of a puppet attached to her father's strings, Scarlet goes where he points and kills who he condemns. When he sends her to take down an enemy who made an embarrassment of him in the past, Scarlet does what she has to do. It's not just her freedom on the line--her life and the lives of those she cares about depends on her taking down Trent Nichols.

Scar details both Scarlet and Trent's past together, as well as the present. From young lovers to enemies, hurt and betrayal saturates the pages of their story. I loved how interesting the story was, in addition to the romance. Scarlet was a wonderful character. She was strong and warm, despite her cold upbringing. I loved Trent and Scarlet together and their messy, beautiful story.

This is not the first time this author has swept me off my feet. A.M. Brooks does an exceptional job of writing with so much emotion that the reader has to feel it.

I received an ARC in exchange for leaving an honest review.

4 1/2 Stars for this heart-breaking story!

This book is different in the way that Scarlet, the female lead, is actually the bad guy. I really felt sorry for her as she is caught in a world she wants no part of. And I just fell in love with Trent ... he wears his heart on his sleeve. There is no guessing as to what he's thinking because he never holds anything back ... good or bad. I could not put this book down and read well into the wee hours of the morning to finish it. This is the first book I have read by this author and it won't be my last.

Scarlet's dad is a mafia king and he trains her to be a killer. She's young and seduces older men and then kills them. Scarlet is told to get to know Trent Nichols (someone just a little older than her) so that her father can find out his secrets and then destroy him. But then she finds out that Trent is nothing like the man her father told her he was and she falls head-over-heels for him. Trent doesn't have a clue that Scarlet is out to destroy him. All he sees is the beautiful girl he is falling fast and hard for.

I received an early copy courtesy of Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

I’ve always been a fan of Brooks. Her stories pull you in until the very last word! This story was no different. Love, betrayal, and vengeance, secrets are revealed and choices are made to survive. Trent and Scarlet’s connection was amazing, they love so deeply.

Scar was my first read by this author and I am wondering why I waited so long to pick up one of her books. I enjoyed her style of writing as the way she tells the story nabbed my attention immediately and I was thoroughly entertained until the very last page. Seriously, that prologue had me gasping! Scarlet and Trent have that immediate connection but things are not always as they seem to be. Impossible situations lead to impossible decisions. With love, betrayal, secrets, and heartache, one wonders just how things will play out between Scarlet and Trent. This fast-paced novel is a gripping read with a fascinating premise, engaging characters, and lots of intensity. I am definitely looking forward to more books by this author!

This book has a bit of everything and certainly runs you through a gamut of emotions.
It was everything I was expecting and so much more. Every time you think you have things figured out, another twist happens.
The characters will also pleasantly surprise you and I hope to see them again in the future.

Scarlet's life has never been her own wrapped up in her fathers world as his puppet shes desperate to escape.
Trent and his team are doing well in the racing world and he certainly doesn't expect Scarlet to have such an impact on him.
Neither is prepared for the rollercoaster about to happen, she's trying to keep everyone safe, he's looking for answers.
When trust is broken can it ever be fixed?
I loved the characters and enjoyed the story.

Raise your hands if you’re on the A.M. Brooks train! 🙋🏻‍♀️

I have been loving her books so much and Scar is no exception.
I hadn’t even realised that I had hit the 75% mark of the book and that the sun would rise within 2 hours…I knew I had to stop and get some sleep but my brain was like “What’s sleep? Let’s continue on with Scar and Trent.”

I obviously agreed.

Scar was an absolute page turner for me. Filled with twist and turns, so much love and angst… Scar was an adventure to read.
Really enjoyed reading Scar and I highly recommend that you check out A.M. Brooks’s books out.

"So, when is a monster not a monster… when you love her."

From the 1st page to the end this book had me on the edge of my seat as Ms Brooks book's usually have me anytime I get the chance to read them. Her writing has a way of making you feel like you know these people like a friend or whatever it is that you can identify with. This book did that for me Scarlet "Scar" had the misfortune of being born a girl to a father who sees her as a weapon to use against those who would turn against him. You can't help but feel sorry for her and think if she could just disappear but to do that she'd be putting people she loves in danger. She's been tasked with finding this guy Trent to find his weakness, because he did something against her father. She soon realizes when they meet that they have this connection that they both feel and it turns out he's not at all what she was expecting and this is not good as her father expects information from her. This story takes you on one wild ride after another as Scar and Trent some how fall in love among the lies and manipulations. It was definitely hard to put down once I got into the story.

This is my first book by this author and now I want to read her back catalogue.

The book starts with a bang it is action packed and fast paced and at times took my breath away. I liked both Scarlet and Trent and there is no denying the chemistry they have, from the start I was routing for this young couple. From a young age Scarlet is a pawn to be used by her father he uses any means necessary to turn her into a tool he can use. I loved how the story is a love story wrapped in danger and betrayal. There were some genuine tender moments that made me swoon but the reader is waiting for the hammer to fall because we know more than Trent. Scarlet evolved into the woman her father wanted and I wasn't sure whether to be proud or angry at her for her choices. The second half of the book was mysterious and revealed lots of the missing parts of the story leading to one big conclusion. This is a standalone but I would not only like more from Trent ands Scarlet but also other characters in the story.

Wow what a compelling book. This author definitely knows how to create a web of emotions. Scarlet and Trent are a such great characters. There is so many emotions that these two create. The way the author writes this story you feel their emotions. Such chemistry between these two even though Trent wants to ignore but he can't. I actually loved all of the characters. Such a great book. I truly enjoyed reading it.

I ABSOLUTELY love A.M. Brooks and the wonderful books and adventures she takes you on. I first fell in love with her when I read her Midwest Boys series (if you have not read it yet then it is a MUST). So when she posted about Scar I was beyond excited as I was starting to have A.M. Brooks withdrawals. She did not disappoint with Scar. This book is amazing, the characters are outstanding and the story line/plot is OMG! This story is going to tear you up on the inside and keep you on the edge of your seat. It is a second chance romance, secret baby romance, with a hint of a mafia feel to it. This book was more than I was expecting it to be and I am in love! I seriously hope she writes at least one more (trilogy *hint hint*) with this couple as I still am wanting more of them and to find out what happens in the future! I will be adding this to my A.M. Brooks Paperback collection one day!

This book is Awemazing and filled with love, betrayal, revenge and forgiveness. Scarlett is forced into a lifestyle by her horrible father. In order to protect herself and others she does unspeakable and unforgivable actions...even against people she loves. While she’s on one of her jobs she meets Trent...the man she’s supposed to hate.

Trent is living his best life and has a job that he loves. He meets and instantly falls for Scarlett. Little does he know she’s is about to destroy his career and his life...but he does know the whole story of why she betrayed him.

These characters are so deep, dark and complex. Scar is an amazing, strong woman and Trent is protective and fierce!

This is a must read! I requested an arc and I am proving my honest review.

Well Hell. What a story! The chemistry, the betrayal, the loyalty, and the love is off the charts. Scarlet and Trents story made my heart ache. I cried. Couldn’t hold it in. I just wanted Trent to see past his hatred and mistrust. Then that giant secret/twist towards the end blindsided me. Really put into perspective what the stakes were. Hands down a 5 Star read. A.M. Brooks has topped my favorite authors list.....I’ve read and cried on every single book of hers.

Wow…Scar was very intense and has lots of surprises. Scar was very unpredictable and I have to admit to crying 😭 during parts of this book. Scarlet and Trent had a very hard and long road to get to their HEA. I have to admit that I did not see certain events coming. I was hooked from the first page to the last. I have recently found A.M. Brooks, author, and have absolutely loved reading Scar and the Midwest Boys Series. Scar has all of my favorite elements (twists, turns, things going sideways, ups, downs, secrets, lies, emotions, revelations, surprises, and lots and lots of heat 🔥) and I very highly recommend Scar. Any book that makes me laugh, cry, smile, get mad, frustrated with, and empathize with is a very good book and an author worth following. You will not regret reading it. I know I am looking forward to the next book in the Midwest Boys Series, #SummerGirl. 🥰

Scarlet is the daughter of a Mafia boss who wishes she were a boy rather than a girl and he treats her in an unsavory and abusive manner. At an early age she decides she will be the son her father never had until she finds a way to end him.
Trent is a motocross star and on top of his game but has made enemies in the underworld. Scarlet meets Trent intentionally at a motocross match in order to get close to him and he immediately falls for her and they become inseparable over the months. Trent is not what she was told he was and she is having a hard time keeping her head straight where he is concerned. Something unexpected happens and Scarlet disappears with no explanation causing Trent dispare and anger only to reappear in his life six years later. Can he trust her again, does he hate her or does he love her, questions he struggles with until she gives him the final piece to their puzzle. I've read all of Ashton books and this book is just a bit different, worth a read.

This book kept me gripped until the end. The story line was amazing and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough it was a great read. I really love the way that this author writes and cant wait to read more of her work. This book will have your emotions in a vice in parts and I was really feeling and rooting for them both after everything that had happened.

This is Trent and Scarlett's story and what a story it it to tell. When they both met they knew instantly that they had a connection it was electrifying and they both couldn't get enough of each other only Scarlett was harboring a secret that is about to change everything. When fate steps in and years later they are thrown back together everything changes.

I love how this author has written her characters and who they both became I was totally invested in them both and this story until the end. Scarlett is a beautiful, strong, very independent woman that will do anything for the people she loves, while Trent is a an amazing guy that is strong minded but also a protector and these two are totally meant to be. This book has secrets, lies, betrayal, tragic and heartbreaking moments that will captivate you. I really enjoyed reading this book and I cant wait to read more form this author in the future. I highly recommend that everyone reads this book.

Star Rating : 4/5 Stars

POV : Dual

Cliffhanger : None

Hero : Trent

Heroine : Scar

Pace of the story : Fast

Angst Rating : 5/10

Heat Rating : 5/10

Triggers Involved : Past Trauma

Plot Summary :
Scarlett is a weapon created by her father. She doesn't know it, but he uses her in the worst way by making her seduce boys for his benefit only to destroy them later. One such target of hers was the boys she loved and then later destroyed. Trent. He was everything she never knew she needed and she soon found herself breaking all her rules for him. But she knew what that meant for him. There is no way her father would have left him alive so she destroyed his life in order to keep him safe. Only he didn't seem to agree with that.

The only thing that has kept Trent alive is his need for revenge. His need to hurt Scarlett and take what was his. She will pay for her sins and that will be by his hand. He will make her suffer and break her just like she did to him. What he didn't expect was for her truth to change everything.

Overall Opinion :
I loved this book so freaking much! It was a short read and I finished it pretty fast but I loved it nonetheless. Scar and Trent have this amazing story. My heart hurt for both of them since they suffered so much but it was all worth it by the end.

This book was an amazing one time read for me, I liked it and would recommend it to all the second Chance dark romance lovers out there!

Scar will be racing through my thoughts forever!

Stories like this are beautiful. Created out of horrible experiences, but we can't have the good without the bad. Scarlett was an amazingly inspirational character. Not that Trent wasn't fantastic...and a total hottie... but there's just something about having a strong female lead. In a world where women are still fighting to prove themselves, though there have been major strides, the stereotype that we're just not as great as men is still there. Not for Scarlett! Though she did terrible things, she did everything she could to prove herself to her cruel father that she was better than any man. In return, she never forgot who she truly was after the years she spent doing so, and in the end, found a way to break the cycle of power and control, and finally found happiness.

Brooks wrote a remarkable story with beautifully flawed characters! Scarlett and Trent reminded me that life creates scars we keep with us forever, we can either be defined by them, or hold them close, remembering how we fought our way out of the dark and into the light.

Scar’ by A.M. Brooks is a contemporary, new-ish adult, second chance romance. *SIGH* I feel like I have been waiting for Trent’s story FOREVER and Brooks did NOT disappoint. Brooks readers first met Trent in the ‘Hearts Duet’ (Hearts and Bruises & Hearts and Flowers), although ‘Scar’ IS standalone, and I don’t feel like you would be missing out if you didn’t, I would suggest checking out the ‘Hearts Duet’ (it’s a great read!) and you can get a bit of a better understanding of the event Trent was involved in when he was younger that is mentioned in ‘Scar’.

‘Scar’ is a bit different compared to most stories as this time around the heroine is the perceived “bad guy” who did the hero wrong. You don’t get many stories that go that route and although second chance romance isn’t one of my favorite genres, this plot was an amazing read! In ‘Scar’ we see flashbacks of when Trent first met Scarlet, and what led up to their separation as well as why Scarlet is back now and how the two are trying to navigate working together with miles of secrets, betrayal, and heartache between them.

I have read everything A.M. Brooks has released and I must say, from the prologue to the heart-stopping ending, ‘Scar’ is her best work yet! This one has it ALL, and it’s one hell of a ride along the way.

With that being said… let’s get to the facts!

🅃🄷🄴 🄵🄰🄲🅃🅂:

𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Contemporary | New Adult-ish | Second Chance Romance

𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Standalone

𝗣𝗢𝗩: First-Person, Dual POV

𝗛 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 💙💙💙💙💙 – Trent Nichols, biker, underground racer, and an undercover detective. When he was young he fell hard and fast for a mysterious girl and then out of nowhere his entire life fell apart. As he’s led away in cuffs, Scar disappears without a trace. It’s been six years since Scarlet left but she’s back now, and Trent is far from over her, or the heartache she left in her wake. And now in order to get his revenge, he has to work with the same woman who broke his heart and betrayed him in the worst possible way. I adore Trent Nichols, after reading ‘Hearts Duet’ I knew there was more going on behind the scenes but sheesh, that boy is ALL THE WAY swoon-worthy.

𝗵 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ – Scarlet Reyes, the daughter of a Mexican cartel boss. As you can guess, Scarlet hasn’t had the easiest life, but it’s even worse than whatever you are thinking. Her father has her on a tight leash, using the only people she loves in order to control her and forcing her to be his assassin. But everything changes when he sends her to get info on Trent. The two fall hard and fast for one another but Scarlet’s father is still pulling on her leash and now, with even more to lose, she’s forced to make a difficult decision… breaking Trent and her own heart in the process.
❝𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝒂𝒔 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆. 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓.❞

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮-𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲?: Maybe not insta-love, but definitely insta-lust.

𝗔𝗻𝗴𝘀𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹?: Medium. Trent and Scarlet's story is a series of ups and downs that includes a whole lot of heartache and betrayal along the way.

𝗣𝘂𝘀𝗵/𝗣𝘂𝗹𝗹?: Trent has valid reasons for not welcoming Scarlet back with open arms and Scar understands that but there is a bit of push and pull.

𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺: 🔥🔥🔥🔥–*Swooning* Trent, my oh my Trent. What an absolute sweetheart. He was smitten with Scar from the moment he saw her and he did everything he could to keep her at his side. The swoon-worthy, smoking hot, romance was just a bonus in the story of Trent and Scarlet.
❝𝑺𝒐, 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓… 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒓.❞

𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲: No.

𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Nope.

𝗦𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Yes.

𝗢𝗪/𝗢𝗠 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮: No.

𝗦𝗲𝘅 𝗦𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗪 𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗠: No.

𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿?: I adored Trent, he’s such a wonderful guy but I have to say Scarlet on this one. That girl has gone through hell and back again and is the ultimate definition of a survivor.

𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀: There are difficult subjects that could be considered triggers. If you would like to know more about what those subjects are, feel free to DM me! #NoSpoilers

𝗛𝗘𝗔?: Yes, there is a happily ever after and no one deserved it more than these two.

ⓌⓄⓊⓁⒹ Ⓘ…?

𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝗿𝗲-𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? Absolutely.

𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀? Although ‘Scar’ is standalone, I absolutely would. I’m still keeping my fingers AND toes crossed that we see a Sam and Ayda story, I am all about the step-sibling 'taboo' romance! 🤗🙏

𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? Highly recommend ‘Scar’ to anyone who enjoys contemporary second chance romances with a bit of an enemies-to-lovers feel.

This author is swiftly becoming a favourite of mine.
She’s passionate about her stories. She makes us live in the characters shoes throughout the whole book. She makes you feel exactly what the characters are feeling.
I loved this book. 💯!
Did I mention that Selena is also featured in this book? I was so happy! SELINAS! And I love when the author adds a playlist to listen to while you read the book. So awesome!
Scarlet and Trent will scoop you up and bring you along their ride. Their ride is quite emotional.
Scarlet was brought into the cartel at an early age. She made her first kill before the legal age of 18. Forced into the cartel as a weapon or forced to do her fathers bidding and be sold to a mob boss or worse sold as a prostitute.
She meets Trent. It was all supposed to be a job. A payback from the cartel after he went against scarlets father when he was young.
Only things didn’t turn out like she wanted. She was supposed to bring him down but ended up falling for him.
The sadness. The anguish. The happiness. All the feelings you will feel will be over the top.
Hopefully Elias and Evita’s book will be next!!

ARC received from The Next Step PR. Voluntarily reviewing and all opinions are objective and my own.

A.M. Brooks has a particular style with her storytelling, and it definitely came out the strongest in Scar. Intrigue, angst, revenge, wrapped up in a ball of a second-chance romance. Having never reading the Hearts Duet, I went into Scar blind as to who Trent was, but as this is a standalone, I really didn’t feel it changed anything for me.

I particularly enjoyed all the flashback chapters showing when Scarlet and Trent first met. They are especially swoon-worthy! And quite the opposite of the present chapters. Out comes the cold, unfeeling characters as revenge and sting operations take a front seat.

Not to say it didn’t work for the story or the characters! Such a powerful second-chance romance and i’m so pleased Scar and Trent got their happy ending.

I tried. I really tried but i just didnt like the way this was written. It's confusing because sometimes I didn't know who was really talking also some scenes dragged so much I ended up dropping this and grabbing another book and that's bad for me because it means I'm definitely not enjoying the book.
This is my third book from this author and although their books aren't bad or boring, I've come to the realization that it's not for me. I'm sure it'll be for others.
