Witches of Time #2

The Witch's Compromise

Rate this book
A death-bed secret throws her life into turmoil…

Before unearthing a mystical book, skilled Civil War nurse Ainsley Byrne was focused on treating patients and keeping her magic hidden. Now, her life’s upended by a prophecy that foretells her unusual destiny. How can someone travel through time? When Ainsley encounters two witches with enlightening answers, it only leaves her more uncertain. And then there’s the handsome, dark-haired English surgeon whose entrancing smile and amusing charm prove irresistible. But Ainsley senses he’s well-entangled in the mystery now divining her life.

Caldwell Prescott’s been sent to 1863 Gettysburg as an army surgeon. However, even with a major battle imminent, his true assignment’s far more complicated and dangerous. Trying not to change history and escaping being killed is difficult enough, but avoiding falling in love with a beautiful nurse who’s believed to be a powerful witch might prove impossible. Tasked with discovering her supernatural abilities and finding the missing book, above all, Cal‘s purpose here is to protect her. But who’ll protect him and his heart when she discovers the truth?

I absolutely loved this book! Leigh Ann Edwards has outdone herself yet again. I loved sitting down with my coffee and getting lost in this story. Nothing better than escaping into fantasy for a while, especially when the book is fantastic. Cannot wait for the next installment. :-)

The Witches of Times, the newest series by Leigh Ann Edwards is by far one of the best of its kind. The Witch's Compromise (Witches of Time, #2) takes the read to 1863 Gettysburg in the US Civil War. Time travel was definitely implied at the end of the first book in the series but this is an amazing twist to add to the series.

Trying to help the injured, understand a prophecy and keep her true magical abilities hidden is not an easy task for nurse Ainsley Byrne. Then there is British army surgeon Caldwell Prescott. Who is he really, surely more than simply a charming talented doctor? Others come claiming to be time travelers which add to her confusion. Such a wonderful story full of mystery, wonder, and romance during a tragic time in US history.

While I guess this could be consider a stand-alone by some my suggestion is read all the books. Start at the beginning, you don’t want to mis a bit of this series, especially not The Witch's Compromise.

An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Witches of Time series being a spin-off of The Irish Witch series, readers will catch up with Alainn and Killian, while discovering a new transcendent witch Ainsley and Cal whom we might be familiar with. They are all joined by Arianna, Darius, Danhoul, and Tristan who is as always annoying as ever even though he has good intentions. Cal has been tasked to discover if Ainsley is truly the Fire witch and must use any ploy possible to do so. His secrets become impossible to keep when he realises that she is his soulmate. And so begins the cat and mouse game until all the cats are let out of the bag.

Odrhan and his minions are hell-bent on messing with history to prevent the witches from joining forces and this time they are getting a little too close for comfort. In the next book, we will discover the last witch and finally begin the journey to defeat the evil forces at work.

Just finished my advanced copy of Leigh Ann Edwards newest book in The Witches of Times series and it is another winner. Enjoyed the humour and bantering between Ainsley and Cal during the stressful time of a Civil War in the US and Ainsley’s increasing powers. As usual there is lots of twists and turns in the author’s writing but lots of different things compared to the first book in the series. It was also great to meet up again with the first 2 of the transcending witches who come together to assist. A great read and can’t wait for book #3 in the series.

Leigh Ann Edwards is a wonderful storyteller, the characters are so rich and deep you know you want to be friends and can't wait to see what they will get up to next, just fell in love with Ainsley and Cal. Lot's of twists and turns with Alainn and Arianna popping back in, makes for an interesting twist. Simply can't wait for the 3rd book in the series to be released.

good book!

Ainsley Byrne is a gifted nurse who has to hide her magic powers as she attempts to tend to the wounded of Gettysburg during the war. When a magical book and a charming English surgeon make an appearance, her heart and fate are hopelessly entangled.

Caldwell Prescott was sent to 1863 to protect a potential transcendent witch and recover the book. Every moment in her presence threatens his resolve and potentially their future.

As war rages and secrets unravel, will their love survive time, destiny and betrayal?

Great book full of excitement and intrigue. Poor Ainsley has been hurt by men and yet is willing to continue treating wounded soldiers. She’s such a strong character. Cal is so conflicted but pulled to Ainsley and puts her before anything else.

Favourite quotes include:
“You used to widen your eyes when you heard that song, no doubt thought it would prevent tears, but tears aren’t a sign of weakness, Ainsley. They’re just your heart releasin’ pain so you can bear it. If you don’t weep and free your woes, you might become hard or bitter, which would make me very sad.

Too long, too many different plot elements, a mishmash of a story. It was even worse than the first. If the author had any type of an idea, she had to try and stick it in the story, even if it made no sense. I hate DNFs but I'm done with this series, it is a waste of time.
